The US would lose 10-20 warships, two aircraft carriers, 200-400 warplanes and some 3,000 troops in just the first three weeks of fighting. But China comes off worse, failing to regain Taiwan and losing most of its amphibious fleet, 52 major warships and 160 warplanes - a military humiliation that would imperil the country's communist leaders. The grim war simulations come at a time of political upheaval, with Taiwan's President Lai Ching-te taking a tougher line on China , which sees Taiwan as a renegade province to be unified with the mainland, by force if necessary. China has ramped up its military activities around Taiwan in the past five years, and President Xi Jinping has reportedly asked his generals to prepare to retake the island of 24 million people as soon as 2027. US President Joe Biden has vowed to defend the territory. But the US is not under any treaty obligations to do so, and president-elect Donald Trump has signaled he is less willing to bankroll a war in Asia in pursuit of his 'America First' policy. The Shura Council was represented in the symposium by HE Dr Hamda bint Hassan Al-Sulaiti, Vice President of the Council. The symposium, which was held under the title 'Palestinian Female Prisoners in the Occupation Prisons in the Narrative of Genocide', addressed the serious violations committed by the Israeli occupation forces against Palestinian female prisoners in light of its ongoing aggression on the Gaza Strip and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territories, and the accompanying crimes of genocide and ethnic cleansing against the Palestinian people, and other crimes that constitute a clear violation of international law and international humanitarian law. The participants in the symposium reviewed the harsh conditions faced by Palestinian female prisoners in the prisons of the occupation forces, and the abuse, torture, and deprivation of all their rights to which they are subjected. They also pointed out the increase in the rate of arrests of women, especially among minor girls and university students, since the aggression of October 7. Participants warned of the worsening conditions of Palestinian female prisoners as Israel prevents international human rights organizations from visiting prisons, in addition to its failure to abide by international agreements protecting prisoners of war. Whether it's electric cars, plug-in hybrids like the 2023 Volvo XC90 , or pure internal-combustion cars, there are lots of variants of vehicles to select from. So naturally, automakers have to distinguish each of their trims and powertrain variants by using distinct language for each choice. Volvo has done this in a relatively simple way to help separate their electric vehicles from their gasoline-powered vehicles and to distinguish which engine powers each vehicle. Despite the simplicity of Volvo's naming convention, it may be hard to distinguish certain models, so here's a quick breakdown of the differences between its T5 and T6 models. Simply put, a Volvo with the T5 designation is powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, while T6-designated models were turbocharged and supercharged . The T5 and T6 have been discontinued, replaced by plug-in hybrid powertrains throughout Volvo's lineup, but you might find them on the used marketplace, and knowing the differences could help you pick the best car for your needs. The T5 and T6 were available on various Volvo models over the years, including excellent sedans like the S60 and wagons like the V60 , with a few key differences. The addition of a supercharger gave T6 models more horsepower. A good example of this is the 2022 Volvo XC90. The base motor on that year's XC90 was the T5, a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It put out 250 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. Both numbers were healthy amounts at the time, but the T6 spiced things up a bit. The addition of a supercharger to the same 2.0-liter engine (now turbocharged and supercharged) meant a power jump to 316 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. PHILADELPHIA – Eagles quarterback Kenny Pickett has seen limited action this season, mostly appearing in mop-up duty when games were already decided. Those moments allowed him to stay sharp. With starting quarterback Jalen Hurts ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Dallas Cowboys, Pickett finally got his chance to start, marking his first start since Dec. 3, 2023, when he played for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pickett’s backup, Tanner McKee, had also never played in a regular-season game. Together, the two quarterbacks formed an unlikely duo to lead the Eagles to an NFC East title. On Sunday, they combined for 197 net passing yards in the Eagles’ 41-7 win , clinching the division and ensuring the team will finish no lower than the No. 2 seed in the NFC. Pickett completed 10 of 15 passes for 143 yards, including a touchdown to wide receiver DeVonta Smith , and added a rushing touchdown.
