Luke Richardson was fired as coach of the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday, the NHL club announced, after the team stumbled to the league's worst record so far this season. Swede Anders Sorensen, coach of the Blackhawks' top developmental club, was named interim coach for the NHL squad. Richardson, a 55-year-old Canadian, went 57-118 with 15 overtime losses in three seasons with Chicago. The Blackhawks are 8-16 with two overtime losses this season for a league-low 18 points after going 19-54-9 last season, second-worst in the NHL, and 26-49-7 in 2022-23, third-worst in the league. "Today I made the difficult decision to move on from Luke as our head coach," Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said. "As we have begun to take steps forward in our rebuilding process, we felt that the results did not match our expectations for a higher level of execution this season and ultimately came to the decision that a change was necessary." Stephen Seery, aged 22, also attacked a female garda with a punch and a kick in the face when she posed as the girl and went to meet him, Mullingar Circuit Criminal Court was told. Judge Keenan Johnson imposed a three-year suspended sentence after the accused pleaded guilty to an offence under the Harassment, Harmful Communications and Related Offences Act 2020 for threatening to distribute intimate images of the girl on August 23, 2022. Seery, of Vilanstown, Gaybrook, Mullingar, Co Westmeath, was also ordered to carry out 240 hours of community service instead of a sentence of two years and six months for assault causing harm to Garda Gemma Prendergast. He must also pay each victim €5,000. Judge Johnson recalled the prosecution evidence, which revealed how Seery used an Instagram account with an AI-generated name. He began communicating with the girl, “persistently” asking for nude pictures. He told her he would send her an iPhone 12 and she sent him eight to 10 photos, including two without clothes, but edited them so her face was not visible. The phone did not arrive, and when queried, “the accused threatened to send the pictures to the victim’s followers if she did not meet and have sex with him”. It was then arranged that they would meet at a bridge near the old abandoned train station in Mullingar, but the victim reported him to gardaí. Gda Prendergast went to the area and presented herself as the victim, but Seery realised “and reacted by punching her”. Mitigating factors were his young age, remorse, lack of previous convictions, and guilty plea, and the judge said it appeared Seery’s offending was affected by his sense of isolation and depressive symptoms. He said it was out of character for the accused and an aberration. It was clear, he stated, that Seery was from a good family, and following apprehension, he accepted the offences were malicious, furnished letters of apology to his victim, and expressed shame. The court heard he worked part-time, was on a film production course, and engaging with his doctor and counselling, which needs to continue, and he has quit binge drinking. The court noted he had been recently diagnosed with autism, and this diagnosis would assist him in getting help to reduce his risk of reoffending. The judge learned from the accused’s father that Seery had issues from childhood, suffered a mental breakdown in his teens, and “was in a dark place for years”. Are we sensing a pattern? For the unfamiliar — and I trust that there are a lot of you — a vajacial isn't actually a facial for your vagina. It's a facial for your vulva , the area that encompasses the external female genitalia. (The vagina is all internal.) The buzzy treatment has been all over my TikTok FYP, which left me intrigued enough that I decided to visit Sugaring NYC in Beverly Hills to test out its "v-facial." What you can expect during said appointment varies depending on where you go. According to the brand's website , the process at this salon included hair removal, ingrown-hair extractions if needed, a chemical peel, a skin-care mask, and a treatment with a high-frequency machine. When I arrived at my appointment, an aesthetician led me into a room, where I popped off my pants and hopped onto the treatment table, butterfly style. As someone who writes about weird beauty sh*t all the time, I wasn't concerned whatsoever about what was in store for me. I was feeling good. "What do you feel like the area needs?" As I gazed down at my naked lower half, the only descriptive word that came to mind was "perfect." I honestly didn't feel like the area needed much help, so I went with their most basic option: a lavender calming mask. Once applied, we let it sit for 10 minutes until it hardened, which was probably the most relaxing portion of the treatment. The last step was a high-frequency machine, which the aesthetician said would help eliminate bacteria by pushing oxygen into my pores. The ferry would cater to Lake Tahoe's California side and shuttle 30 passengers at a time across the roughly 20-mile stretch between the north and south ends of the lake. The 30-minute one-way ride would be a significant time-saver on a trip that can take two hours in a car. "This is solving a critical transportation problem around the entire Tahoe basin," said FlyTahoe founder and Chief Executive Ryan Meinzer, who said the ferry could be in operation by late 2025 or early 2026. A report from the Tahoe Transportation District in 2012 identified a north-south ferry service as a solution to reduce traffic in Lake Tahoe and enhance the public transit system. Despite an initial analysis of a large passenger diesel fuel-powered ferry, the option has not been developed. The area gets millions of annual visitors and Meinzer says it is time to make an electric ferry system a reality, reducing traffic and emissions. District Manager Carl Hasty said that he has not connected with FlyTahoe or Candela but that he believes the ferry could benefit the area, if it could meet all the regulations related to permitting and infrastructure. "If you want to get from one end of the basin to the other, it can be difficult. In summer, you can have construction congestion. You can have congestion just from the volume of cars that are largely on a two-lane highway system. In the winter time, you add snow," Hasty said. "I think it has a role to play." Tahoe is home to multiple resorts on the north and south side of the lake, but residents and tourists who want to visit one area from the other have a long commute. Meinzer's interest in finding a faster alternative stemmed from his own snowboarding experiences when he'd visit the area and wade through traffic, wondering why there wasn't a more seamless route. He was aware of hydrofoils for surfing and wakeboarding, and eventually learned about Candela's efforts. The hydrofoil technology, which allows for a smoother ride above waves, has been around for decades and has continued to emerge on a larger scale as electric power has gained traction. Candela launched a ferry in Stockholm this year that uses a hydrofoil system suited for electrification. "It basically works like a jet fighter ... except our wings fly in water instead of air," Candela founder and CEO Gustav Hasselskog said in a statement. A Washington state transit agency is working on its own hydrofoil electric ferry design in Puget Sound. The passenger vessel in Lake Tahoe initially would accommodate roughly 300 people a day over multiple rides. Meinzer envisions a future fleet that could shuttle more passengers and improve accessibility. Aside from building the vessel, which federal maritime law requires to be constructed in the U.S., several other steps must be taken before a launch. FlyTahoe would need to work with the private and public marinas around the lake to ensure there's proper infrastructure to charge the electric ferry, which Meinzer said could make a round trip when fully charged. The company also would have to follow various regulatory requirements related to permitting, design and shoreline effect and work with local, state and federal agencies, including the U.S. Coast Guard, which has authority on the lake. "We want to make sure we're solving this transit problem while keeping the pristine beauty of this lake," Meinzer said. Visitor parking would need to be established for those who plan to ride the ferry, which could accommodate bicycles but not cars. No. 7 Tennessee outscored UT Martin by 28 points in the second half in routing the visiting Skyhawks 78-35 on Friday afternoon in Knoxville. Chaz Lanier scored a game-high 18 points for the Volunteers (7-0), who expanded on a 35-20 halftime lead with a 43-15 second half. Felix Okpara had 10 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks, helping Tennessee command the paint along with Igor Milicic, who added nine points and 13 rebounds. Zakai Zeigler nearly had a double-double with 11 points and nine assists. The Volunteers used their size to their advantage, outscoring UT Martin 36-10 in the paint and out rebounding the Skyhawks 49-24. That included 20 offensive rebounds for Tennessee, which led to 19 second-chance points. UT Martin (2-5) was cold coming out of the locker room after halftime, missing its first eight shots. Conversely, the Vols started the second half with a nine-point run to extend their lead to 24 points. The Vols never let the Skyhawks score consecutive baskets in the first half, holding UT Martin to 25 percent shooting (4 of 16) from beyond the arc and allowing a total of only three points from the starting five. For the game, guard Josue Grullon led UT Martin with 15 points. The leading scorer in the Ohio Valley Conference entering Friday at 18.2 points per game, Grullon has not started any game for head coach Jeremy Shulman. Most of the Skyhawks' points -- 28 of 35 -- came from their reserves. The starting five combined to score seven points -- six points from Matija Zuzic and a free throw for Lamine Niag. The starters went a combined 2 of 18 from the floor, while UT Martin as a team shot 22.6 percent (12 of 53) from the field. The Skyhawks made 5 of 7 free-throw attempts and made 18 turnovers.
