SIOUX FALLS — The Summit League announced its 2024 Volleyball All-Summit League teams Saturday morning, and five Coyotes were represented on the teams in Kamryn Farris, Kylen Sealock, Avery Van Hook, Lauren Medeck and Morgan Bode Farris was named the conference’s Defensive Player of the Year and is joined on the All-League team by Kylen Sealock, who earned her second straight All-League honor. After earning a spot on the all-freshman team a year ago, Avery Van Hook was an All-League Honorable Mention this year after pacing the conference in assists and assists per set. Lauren Medeck and Morgan Bode were named to the Summit League’s All-Freshman team. During Summit League play, Farris led all players in digs with 347 and digs per set at 5.26. Farris tallied double-digit digs in all 16 conference matches and 20 or more in six matches. Sealock put away double-digit kills in 13 of 16 conference matches and has hit the 10-kill mark in each of the last 12 matches. Sealock matched her career-high of 21 kills on a .367 swing rate in a five-set win over North Dakota on October 10. She had four matches with a hitting percentage greater than .275 and twice she swung at a .300 or higher clip. Sealock totaled 22 blocks, four solo, 37 digs and a .203 attack rate. Van Hook paced the Summit League in assists and assists per set throughout the season, ending the conference regular season with 689 assists and a 10.44 assist per set average. Van Hook matched a season-high of 54 assists in the Yotes match at St. Thomas on November 14, the second time she dished out 54 helpers in a match this season (vs. Montana St. 9/13). Van Hook also ranks ninth in the conference in total digs with 196 and in digs per set at 2.97. She recorded a double-double in 12 of 16 conference matches with assists and digs. Van Hook notched 66 kills herself and held an attacking percentage of .247. In her freshman season, Medeck ranked No. 12 in the conference with 182 kills and 12 in kills per set at 2.76. Medeck put away double-digit kills in eight of 16 conference matches, including a career-high tying 20 at South Dakota State on October 22. Medeck helped the Yotes to a 3-0 sweep over Oral Roberts on November 11 as she put away 10 kills, with no errors, for a .526 hitting percentage. She recorded seven double-doubles during the conference slate, all with kills and digs, and dug up a career-high 27 attacks to go with 16 kills against St. Thomas on November 14. Medeck was second on USD with 192 digs, 3.10 per set, and had 30 blocks (2.0 solo) during the conference season. Bode was a force in the middle all season long for the Coyotes, leading the team with 78.0 blocks (14 solo) during Summit League action. Bode’s 78 total blocks led conference players, while her 14 solo rejections rank No. 3 and her 1.18 blocks per set is third. Bode had 114 terminations on a .239 hitting percentage and also tallied 15 aces. Bode had three matches with double-digit kills, including a career-best 15 against North Dakota State on October 19 while holding a .444 swing rate. Bode also tallied seven blocks (two solo) in the win over the Bison. Bode tallied multiple blocks in 14 straight matches to end the season. The Dolphins entered Sunday’s action still alive in the AFC wild-card race, but a steep path to a playoff spot still remains. If Miami falls short of the postseason, the team’s play on offense (particularly in the games without Tua Tagovailoa in the lineup) will be responsible to a significant extent. Under head coach Mike McDaniel, the Dolphins have generally enjoyed success on offense when Tagovailoa is healthy (with exceptions against some of the league’s top defenses, to be fair) but their play on that side of the ball has notably regressed with other quarterbacks in place. That trend has largely continued in 2024, a year in which midseason signing Tyler Huntley has seen notable playing time. The Dania Beach native recently revealed he is on the Dolphins’ radar with respect to a contract for 2025. “ I got a good feeling I’m going to be home for a little bit,” Huntley said ( via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald ). “ I’m going to be down here in Miami in a little bit. It’s all God’s plans, but I’ve got a good feeling I’ll be home for a little bit.” Huntley added his agent has been informed of the Dolphins’ desire to work out a deal keeping him in place beyond the rest of the campaign. The former UDFA spent considerable time with the Ravens as their backup, although he also made a total of 10 regular and postseason starts during that time. Baltimore elected to keep Josh Johnson in place for the QB2 role this offseason, leaving Huntley to sign with the Browns. He wound up being cut, however, and shortly before the start of the season he returned to the Ravens via a practice squad deal. Not long after Tagovailoa suffered his most recent concussion, Huntley was added to Miami’s active roster and he made three starts before going down with a shoulder injury of his own. Now back in the fold and in the starting lineup for today’s must-win game as Tagovailoa deals with a hip injury, the 26-year-old is in position to help his free agent stock down the stretch with a rebound from his initial time atop the Dolphins’ depth chart (during which he posted a touchdown-to-interception ratio of only 1:1 and a passer rating of just 73.9). As Jackson adds, Miami is expected to bring in other options for the backup gig this offseason. Tagovailoa inked a massive extension this past summer, but his history of concussions makes quality insurance at the QB2 spot something of particular importance for the Dolphins. Former seventh-rounder Skylar Thompson joins Huntley as a pending free agent, and the possibility remains both could be playing elsewhere in 2025. For the latter, though, it would not come as a surprise if he were to receive an extended opportunity to earn the backup role. He is set to meet with her at Mar-a-Lago Friday afternoon, but as is always the case, nothing is final until Trump announces it. Loeffler, who briefly represented Georgia in the Senate, had fundraised for Trump during the 2024 race and raised several million dollars for his campaign over the summer when she hosted a debate watch party with Republican National Committee Chair Michael Whatley. Several of Trump’s other Cabinet picks — including Sen. Marco Rubio and Rep. Elise Stefanik — were at that party. Loeffler is also co-chairing Trump’s inauguration, as CNN previously reported. The agriculture job will likely be a significant one — especially as Trump’s pick to run the Department of Health and Human Services, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has promised to assert his influence over the agriculture industry. Loeffler, appointed to the Senate by Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp over the wishes of Trump, lost her seat in a 2021 runoff to Democratic now-Sen. Raphael Warnock. Loeffler was a staunch Trump ally in Congress, saying prior to the violence on January 6, 2021, that she planned to vote against certifying her state’s electoral results in support of Trump’s broader effort to upend Joe Biden’s 2020 election victory. After the US Capitol attack, Loeffler backed off her objection, saying on the Senate floor: “When I arrived in Washington this morning, I fully intended to object to the certification of the electoral votes. When running for election in 2020, she announced she and her husband were divesting from individual stocks amid sharp criticism over trades she and other lawmakers made ahead of the market downturn caused by the coronavirus. Kemp had appointed Loeffler to fill the seat of Johnny Isakson, who had left the Senate before the end of his term because of health concerns. Trump, however, had pressed the governor to appoint then-Rep. Doug Collins, who then challenged Loeffler for the remainder of Isakson’s term. The two Republicans sought to one-up the other and showcase their loyalty to Trump, moving further and further to the right in a state where Atlanta’s more moderate suburban voters were key. Emergency Preparedness Minister Harjit Sajjan didn't go to the Taylor Swift concert in Vancouver he was set to attend with free tickets he got from a B.C. Crown corporation, a spokesperson for the minister told CBC News on Monday. After facing fierce criticism for accepting tickets to the in-demand event for himself and his family, Sajjan decided it was best not to go at all, the spokesperson said. Sajjan returned the tickets on Friday to B.C. Pavilion Corporation (PavCo), the provincial entity that owns the B.C. Place stadium where Swift performed over the weekend, the spokesperson said. The spokesperson said Sajjan gave PavCo enough time to find someone else to attend in his place. Sajjan told the federal ethics commissioner — who initially cleared him to take the free tickets — that he wouldn't attend. Sajjan, who gave $1,500 to the Greater Vancouver Food Bank in lieu of payment for the tickets, is not asking for his donation back, the spokesperson said. PavCo donated Swift tickets to food banks and other charity organizations so that they could raffle them off and raise money. It also auctioned off suites, raising more than $1 million, according to the corporation. In exchange for free tickets to the concert, PavCo expected the political and business leaders it invited to make a "significant donation" to food banks, the company has said. That's how Sajjan initially justified taking the free tickets. He told reporters the funds raised from giving out the Swift tickets were going to a worthy charity. "This is actually supporting a very good cause, something that Taylor Swift also supports as well," Sajjan told reporters last week.
