HOUSTON (AP) — Rockets forward Amen Thompson threw Heat guard Tyler Herro to the floor to trigger an altercation that resulted in six ejections in the closing minute of Miami's 104-100 victory over Houston on Sunday. Thompson and Herro became entangled with Miami about to inbound the ball leading 99-94 with 35 seconds left. Thompson grabbed Herro by the jersey and tossed him, with referee Marc Davis describing it as Thompson “body slams Herro .” “I didn’t see it live, but I re-watched it,” Rockets coach Ime Udoka said. “They were in each other’s face, bumping chests a little bit, and one guy’s stronger than the other.” Herro, Thompson, and Udoka were ejected, as were Heat guard Terry Rozier, Rockets guard Jalen Green, and Rockets assistant coach Ben Sullivan. Davis said Green and Rozier escalated the altercation, while Sullivan was assessed a technical foul and ejected for unsportsmanlike comments as the referee was trying to redirect the Rockets' Alperen Sengun. The altercation occurred after Miami had come from 12 points down in the second half to regain the lead with the help of Houston missing 11 straight shots in the fourth quarter. Herro keyed the comeback, leading all scorers with 27 points and adding nine assists and six rebounds. And at the rate modern college football moves with the transfer portal and NIL, the smart teams have already been thinking about the 2025 season. Here are the three biggest questions facing Iowa State ahead of that Aug. 3, 2025 game against Kansas State in Ireland. Iowa State woke up Sunday with a massive hole in its production. Senior receivers Jaylin Noel and Jayden Higgins combined for 2,377 receiving yards this season. The other 17 players who caught a pass this season combined for 1,203. We know how the Cyclones will try to replace the duo. On Dec. 14, ISU landed a commitment from sophomore Eastern Carolina receiver Chase Sowell and three days later one from former UCF receiver Xavier Townsend. A funny coincidence is Sowell stands 6-foot-4, the same height as Higgins, while Townsend is listed at 5-foot-11, identical to Noel. Next season, Iowa State should also look to the tight end position to fill some lost production. Ben Brahmer’s sophomore season essentially ended in November after he suffered a leg injury against UCF. He caught 10 passes for 179 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore tight end Gabe Burkle saw a leap in his production after Brahmer got hurt. Burkle finished the season with five catches against Arizona State in the Big 12 Championship and four against Miami, including a leaping touchdown catch in the first quarter. Burkle and Brahmer finished as the third and fourth leading receivers behind Noel and Higgins. Although the winter transfer portal window for underclassmen closed Saturday, there could still be Cyclones who enter. Every player on a team in the postseason has an additional five days after the season ends to enter the portal. No Iowa State opt-outs were reported leading up to the Pop-Tarts Bowl, but NFL Draft prospects Higgins and defensive back Darien Porter both chose not to play. Don’t be surprised if there are some Cyclones who enter the portal between now and the Thursday deadline. That’s not particularly an indictment on ISU’s program or culture, just the reality of modern college football. Derek Hoodjer is ISU’s assistant AD for player personnel. He is in charge of building ISU’s roster and navigating the portal. After the Pop-Tarts Bowl, Hoodjer celebrated with players on the field and made sure Noel got to lift the bowl trophy after his postgame press conference. The tires might still be discarded in a corner of AT&T Stadium after Arizona State ran all over the Cyclones in a 45-19 win. Credit to the ISU defense, it forced a punt and interception on Miami’s final two possessions to lead to a win. Rampant injuries made every defensive effort this season a patchwork attempt. Through the first 10 games, ISU averaged 6.4 key defensive players sidelined . The Cyclones injury luck can’t be worse next season, right? That’s probably true, but graduation is still going to cost ISU several key pieces. Safety Beau Freyler is the “nucleus” of Iowa State’s team and played his last game Saturday. Darien Porter is a veteran in ISU’s secondary and top special teams contributor who opted out of the Miami game with NFL Draft hopes. Redshirt senior J.R. Two Black-owned B.C. businesses will receive grants and legal services as part of a small business program. The fifth annual Black-owned small business grant program, organized by law firm Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP, is aimed at supporting such enterprises across the country. Judith Kasiama of Vancouver-based Colour the Trails and Naa Sheka Riby-Williams of White Rock-based Naa Sheka Fashion were two of six recipients from across Canada, according to Tuesday’s (Nov. 26) announcement. More than $100,000 will be distributed to recipients, who will also receive legal services. More than $537,000 in grants have been distributed to Black-owned and operated businesses through the law firm’s program. Founded in 2017, Colour the Trails is a business that focuses on making outdoor activities more accessible to Black, Indigenous and people of colour (BIPOC). It does this by hosting outdoor events, creating media that features the stories of BIPOC and, where possible, providing financial support to those facing financial hurdles when it comes to participating. Naa Sheka Fashion is a clothing line that fuses Western and Ghanaian influences using traditional West African textiles. One of their highlights is a partnership with the Vancouver Canucks in February, where it designed a jersey for Black History Month. According to the announcement, the business provides fair wages to Ghanaians and its website states it donates part of its profits to help build libraries in that country. The Black-owned small business grant, which is also supported by Vancouver-based Wheaton Precious Metals (TSX:WPM), is committed to supporting businesses that represent diversity and inclusivity, Cassels Black Affinity Group co-chair Kori Williams said in the announcement. Thompson-Herro fight leads to ejections of multiple players and coaches in Heat's victory in HoustonA Florida woman and social media influencer accused of shoplifting $500 of items from Target was arrested after police say she was identified through a TikTok video she filmed of the incident. The 22-year-old allegedly stole the items by scanning false bar codes with cheaper prices than what she was purchasing at the self-checkout of a Target in Cape Coral, Florida on Oct. 30, according to a statement from the Cape Coral Police Department. Police said that they identified the woman, who posted daily content on TikTok about her life and personal habits and had almost 300,000 followers on the social media platform—the account has since grown to more than 360,000 followers as of Nov. 26—after seeing a video in which she documented a trip to Target on the date of the theft and picked up the same items that were stolen. Social media beef: Fans react to Drake threatening to sue over Kendrick's 'Not Like Us' diss track Identified by an anonymous tip Cape Coral police responded to Target on Nov. 20 and confirmed with the store's loss prevention department and security camera footage that a woman wearing tan pants, a tan shirt, and glasses stole a total of 16 items of miscellaneous goods and clothing valued at $500.32, according to the Fort Myers News-Press . Police posted a photo taken from the store of the woman on the department's social media pages asking for possible leads, and soon thereafter received an anonymous tip from someone who provided the social media influencer's name, birthday and Instagram handle. The department then found her TikTok account, as well as the incriminating video documenting her trip to Target on Oct. 30 in the same outfit and glasses as the suspect in the security camera footage. The woman was arrested and charged with one count of petty theft, according to police. A shareholder has sued Warner Bros. Discovery , the soon-to-be former home of the NBA , for violating securities law by misleading investors on the impact of losing its long-standing rights deal with the league. Richard Collura filed the suit in New York federal court seeking class action status on behalf of shareholders who purchased WBD stock between February 23 and August 7 of 2024, which is when the media giant took a massive $9.1 billion write-down at its networks segment related in part, it said, to losing the NBA on TNT. With linear television in decline, Paramount also took a large write-down in the same quarter. Under its existing 2014 deal with the NBA, TNT paid an annual average fee of $1.2 billion. 4. In 2024, the NBA entered advanced discussions with its various partners for a new round of media-rights deals that would last approximately a decade. WBD was unable to reach a new deal with the NBA before its exclusive negotiating window expired in April 2024, allowing the NBA to negotiate with other companies for its sports rights content, including, inter alia, NBC, which offered to pay an annual average fee of $2.5 billion, and Amazon, which offered to pay an annual average fee of $1.8 billion. The suit claims defendants, which also include WBD’s CEO David Zaslav and CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels , “made materially false and misleading statements regarding the company’s business, operations, and prospects,” during the period specified and “failed to disclose that WBD’s sports rights negotiations with the NBA were causing, or were likely to cause, the company to significantly reevaluate its business and goodwill.” Basically, it says the WBD defendants routinely “overstated WBD’s overall business and financial prospects” – like Zaslav stating on the first quarter call that WBD was “now on solid footing with a clear pathway to growth” and that the company is confident in its “ability to drive sustained operating momentum and enhanced shareholder value.” WBD’s stock price fell by 69 cents, or about 9.to close at $7.02 per share. It’s gained back ground since, closing Tuesday at $10.11. Bigger picture the shares have fallen precipitously since Discovery acquired Warner Media. “As a result of Defendants’ wrongful acts and omissions, and the precipitous decline in the market value of the Company’s securities, Plaintiff and other Class members have suffered significant losses and damages.” There were warnings about the business and sports rights in the company’s 10k and other filings, but the suit dismisses them as “generic” boilerplate that didn’t acknowledge the actual risk. WBD had also sued the NBA for awarding its package to Amazon and in that lawsuit said the loss of the rights deal would be devastating. (The NBA and WBD subsequently reached a settlement that includes putting NBA games on Max in some international markets and a related deal with ESPN, which also has a package, to keep Inside the NBA on air.) “During the Class Period, Defendants engaged in a plan, scheme, conspiracy and course of conduct, pursuant to which they knowingly or recklessly engaged in acts, transactions, practices and courses of business which operated as a fraud and deceit upon Plaintiff and the other members of the Class; made various untrue statements of material facts and omitted to state material facts ... [to] artificially inflate and maintain the market price of WBD securities,” the said claimed, seeking damages.
