Contact seemed minimal but VAR did not intervene and Villa had to settle for a point in a 0-0 draw. “With the last action, it is the interpretation of the referee,” the Spaniard said. “In England, 80 per cent of those is given a goal and it’s not a foul. It’s very soft. “But in Europe, it could be a foul. We have to accept. “Everybody will know, in England the interpretation is different. The England referees, when actions like that the interpretation is a clear no foul but in Europe that interpretation is different. “They have to be working to get the same decision when some action like that is coming. I don’t know exactly why but we knew before in the Premier League that it is different. A very controversial finish at Villa Park 😲 Morgan Rogers' late goal is ruled out for a foul on Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio and the match ends 0-0 ❌ 📺 @tntsports & @discoveryplusUK pic.twitter.com/MyYL5Vdy3r — Football on TNT Sports (@footballontnt) November 27, 2024 “In Europe for example we are not doing a block like in England and we are not doing in front of the goalkeeper in offensive corners the same situations like in England. “When the action happened, I was thinking here in Europe it’s a foul. In England not, but in Europe I have to accept it. “At first, I thought the referee gave us a goal. In cases like that, it’s confusing because he has to wait for VAR. I don’t know what happened but I think so (the referee changed his mind with VAR).” It was a disappointment for Villa, who remain unbeaten at home in their debut Champions League campaign and are still in contention to qualify automatically for the last 16. “We were playing a favourite to be in the top eight and usually a contender to win this competition,” Emery added. “We are a team who for a long time didn’t play in Europe and the Champions League and this year is very important. “We wanted to play competitive and we are in the right way. Today to get one point is very good, we wanted to win but wanted to avoid some mistakes we made in previous games. “We have 10 points and we’re happy.” Before the game Emery called Juventus one of the “best teams in the world, historically and now”, but this was an Italian side down to the bare bones. Only 14 outfield players made the trip from Turin, with striker Dusan Vlahovic among those who stayed behind. Juve boss Thiago Motta, whose side are 19th but still in contention to reach the top eight, said: “There’s just three games left to qualify. The next home against Man City, then Brugge, then Benfica. “One at a time, as we always did with the goal to qualify for the next round. “In the end we will try and reach our goal which is to go to the next round.”

Asma al-Assad, wife of ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, is reportedly battling leukaemia and has been given a 50 percent chance of survival. According to a report by the Britiah daily The Telegraph, Asma is said to be undergoing treatment and has been isolated to prevent infection and was prohibited from sharing a room with others. In May this year, Syrian presidency announced that the then-first lady has been diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, following her 2019 complete recovery from breast cancer. However, the report suggests that Asma’s leukaemia has resurfaced after a period of remission. She has been under the care of her father Fawaz Akhras, a London-based cardiologist, for six months, initially in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and now in Moscow. Bashar al-Assad and his family fled Syria and sought refuge in Moscow on Sunday, December 8 , following an 11-day rebel offensive led by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), following years of civil war. Assad is facing severe Russian restrictions, including being barred from leaving or engaging in political activities, and his assets have been frozen, a claim denied by the Kremlin. Since the start of the Syrian uprising, she has been reportedly planning to exile herself and her children to London. According to the latest reports, she has also filed for divorce from Bashar al-Assad due to dissatisfaction with her life in Moscow and is seeking treatment in London. However, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has denied the claims, saying that they do not align with reality. Asma, born in London in 1975 to Syrian parents, currently holds dual British and Syrian citizenship. Asma and Bashar al-Assad married in December 2000. The couple has three children—Hafez, Zein, and Karim.Liverpool are now seven points clear at the top of the Premier league after a comeback victory against Leicester City at Anfield. The Reds recovered from Jordan Ayew's early goal by striking either side of half-time, before Mo Salah sealed the three points late on. Cody Gakpo curled in a sublime equaliser in first-half stoppage time, and just after the break Curtis Jones tapped in from Salah's cut back. And the 'Egyptian King' himself finished off matters late on with a trademark low finish. Express Sport looks brings you the Liverpool player ratings below... Liverpool player ratings: Alisson 5 Beaten by Ayew's low shot after just six minutes, but a virtual spectator thereafter. Trent Alexander-Arnold 8 Range of passing and crosses, in the first-half especially, was superb. A tense few weeks ahead as his contract negotiations continue. Joe Gomez 6 Didn't look entirely comfortable when Leicester did break forward but no glaring errors. Virgil van Dijk 6 One vital first-half interception after causing the slight deflection that aided Ayew's opener. Was fortunate Patson Daka fluffed his second-half chance though after not getting tight enough. Andy Robertson 5 Had his moments, hitting the post in the first-half, but was shoved off the ball way too easily by Ayew for his goal. Still struggling defensively. Alexis Mac Allister 7 A mixed bag early on, full of intensity but misplacing passes. Soon settled down and linked well with his forwards. Ryan Gravenberch 7 Another rock-solid display from the Dutch midfielder. Leicester's deep-lying tactics helped him bring the ball upfield with comfort. Curtis Jones 9 Another energetic display capped by him scoring the winner. Went close twice more and now a key performer for his team. Mohamed Salah 8 What can you say anymore? At times itt didn't seem his best night, but produced two stunning efforts. One hit the bar, the other nestled in the net. Cody Gakpo 8 Given a chance by Arne Slot and he took it. Great finish for his goal and teed up Salah for the clincher. Darwin Nunez 4 Once again worked hard, but his woeful time in front of goal goes on. Headed well wide early on and blasted a later chance way over. Subs Diogo Jota (for Nunez, 78) 7 Busy when he came on and offered a different option. Dominik Szoboszlai (for Jones, 77) 5 Came on, picked up a needless booking, and now suspended for the West Ham game. Not a great cameo. Waturu Endo (for Gravenberch, 87) 6 Tidy enough but on too late to make any real impact. Kostas Tsimikas (for Robertson, 86) 5 Little involvement after coming on. Harvey Elliott (for Mac Allister, 92) 5 A late change to kill seconds.

In a letter signed by 26 of the 27 GOP governors and published on December 11, the Republican Governors Association (RGA) claimed to be standing “united in their support of President Trump’s commitment to make America safe again.” Despite their general support for deportation, the governors hastened to note that they only support deporting “criminals” and “dangerous” illegals, not the lower-wage migrants who quietly fill low paying jobs in their states. “Republican governors remain fully committed to supporting the Trump Administration’s efforts to deport dangerous criminals, gang members, and terrorists who are in this country illegally,” they wrote. “We understand the direct threat these criminal illegal immigrants pose to public safety and our national security, and we will do everything in our power to assist in removing them from our communities.” The group put heavy blame on the disastrous Biden administration: When the Biden Administration refused to secure our borders and uphold the rule of law, it was Republican governors who took action. We mobilized state resources, including law enforcement and National Guard units, to protect Americans from disastrous open border policies and prevent illegal immigration from overwhelming our country. We are proud to welcome President Trump back to the White House, a leader who has consistently put America first. His leadership is exactly what our nation needs to restore law and order at the border, and we are eager to work alongside his Administration to tackle the critical challenges facing our nation. Their guarded support for deportation aside, it is notable that the letter did lend support for the idea of using national guard forces in the deportation effort. They wrote: Together, we will continue to defend the American people, uphold the rule of law, and ensure our nation remains safe and secure for future generations. We stand ready to utilize every tool at our disposal—whether through state law enforcement or the National Guard—to support President Trump in this vital mission. “The time for action is now. Together, we will make America safe again,” the letter concluded. Still, the Republican governors seem to be out of step with most Americans on deportation. Polls show that a solid majority of Americans support Donald Trump’s deportation plans, and to date few polls have made any distinction between deporting only “criminals” and deporting any illegal alien, even those who have not be arrested for a crime. Indeed, just this week a Sienna poll taken of registered voters in New York — most of whom were Democrats — found that clear majorities support Donald Trump’s promise to “deport migrants living illegally in New York” with 54 percent saying the state should assist the federal government in efforts to deport illegals and only 35 percent opposing the idea. In other polling, an Ipsos poll from September found that 66 percent support deportation. The above two polls mirror findings in many other polls, including those conducted by Marist , YouGov , and Harvard-Harris . For his part, Trump has pledged to go as far as he can to deport illegals of all sorts, telling TIME magazine, “I’ll only do what the law allows, but I will go up to the maximum level of what the law allows” to reverse Joe Biden’s migrant invasion. The RGA letter was signed by RGA Policy Chair Governor Henry McMaster (SC), Governor Kay Ivey (AL), Governor Mike Dunleavy (AK), Governor Sarah Sanders (AR), Governor Ron DeSantis (FL), Governor Brian Kemp (GA), Governor Brad Little (ID), Governor Eric Holcomb (IN), Governor Kim Reynolds (IA), Governor Jeff Landry (LA), Governor Tate Reeves (MS), Governor Mike Parson (MO), Governor Greg Gianforte (MT), Governor Jim Pillen (NE), Governor Joe Lombardo (NV), Governor Chris Sununu (NH), Governor Doug Burgum (ND), Governor Kevin Stitt (OK), Governor Mike DeWine (OH), Governor Kristi Noem (SD), Governor Bill Lee (TN), Governor Greg Abbott (TX), Governor Spencer Cox (UT), Governor Glenn Youngkin (VA), Governor Jim Justice (WV), and Governor Mark Gordon (WY). The only Republican governor not to sign onto the statement is Phil Scott, governor of Vermont since 2017.
