The author and her father in her favorite photo of them together. This holiday season there will be no devastating political discussion at our dinner table. My father, the only one of my family members who may have voted red, has been gone for almost 20 years now. When I was young, my dad said he wanted to be a school bus driver when he retired. The kids in my neighborhood were truly terrible to our bus driver, and I worried for him about this. When I adopted my own (now debunked) dream to become a veterinarian, I was pleased when he vowed to become my assistant instead. He always said he would “put the dogs up on the table” for me, as if this was a veterinary assistant’s only duty. I never got a chance to find out what his retirement would have looked like. He had a heart attack on the basketball court when I was 15 — he was 54 — and died suddenly. Sometimes I imagine that he is driving a bus full of heavenly dogs right now, that he lifts tenderly into their seats. Because of his death, I can keep on loving him only exactly this way, as a dog lifter and bus driver. Since he was a fiscally conservative Republican in life, I don’t know if my dad would have voted for Donald Trump. For this I have a complicated gratitude that I can never forgive our 45th president for. I loved my father fiercely. To have any reason at all to not want him back fills me with a stew of shame. My dad was a patriotic individual in a '90s way, earnestly believing America was the greatest nation on Earth, reminding us often how lucky we were to live here. He was a trivia and history buff who loved even the smallest, dustiest historical museum and who almost made it on to Jeopardy! (if only he’d known the main ingredient in guacamole). On a cross-country roadtrip from Colorado to Dad’s hometown in New York my parents took my sister and I on, we were forced to stop at every state capital, place of interest, or memorial site. Where my mom read fiction voraciously, the books I remember on his nightstand were war histories, biographies of former Yankees players, and The Art of the Deal . I’m grateful I don’t know much about my father’s feelings toward Trump aside from that he liked that book and admired him as a real estate mogul, Dad having been a realtor himself. Trump was a different figure then, someone we knew from his name on buildings and his cameo in Home Alone 2 . I can’t imagine my father would be happy with someone with no political background running for president — but that’s the thing, I can only imagine. The author's father as a child in the '50s. I believe he would’ve been tormented by his presidential choices in the last few elections, but ultimately, he would have voted as he took the civic duty of an American citizen seriously. I’ll just never know for sure who he would’ve voted for in 2016 or 2024. Like others, I was physically ill the morning after the most recent election, a nervous nausea amplified over the following week by the growing misogyny online, and Trump’s dystopian video promises for his upcoming term. Almost 35, should I be lucky enough to have a second child, my next pregnancy will be considered geriatric, my risk of miscarriage growing with time. This is only one reason I’ve been haunted by the women dying because they cannot receive proper reproductive healthcare. With a daughter who I’ll soon enroll in school, I’m terrified over our lack of gun control. I’m worried sick about my queer and trans friends whose identity Trump hopes to erase. I’m nervous for my mom and stepdad who will need Medicare soon. I’m anxious for what will become of the many immigrants in my life. I’m particularly devastated by the message Trump and his champions deliver to women, especially young girls: You do not matter . But at least, as I discussed white elephant rules and drafted a Thanksgiving menu with my family, I wasn’t nervous to enjoy the holidays with them. If my father had voted for Trump, especially this time around, I don’t know if I could have ever forgiven him. Examples of relationships ending because of Trump are plentiful, specking the internet and each of our own lives. I became so upset with one friend for voting for him the first time, our last dinner ended in tears. We haven’t seen each other since. Another friend of mine stopped speaking to her aunt after a fight over vaccinations. The next thing my friend knew, she was attending her funeral, her aunt an unfortunate COVID fatality. Yet another friend of mine hasn’t spoken to her father since 2017. In the early 2000s my mom and aunt, both Democrats, would trade gag gifts with my dad. Toilet paper with George W. Bush’s face on it or a crude birthday card of Bill Clinton playing sax in the nude. They would all laugh, my Dad hardest of all, sometimes until he cried, dragging his big mitt of a hand over his face as if it’d been sprayed with snow. They’d push each other’s buttons at the dinner table, usually conceding to a good point or two, and we’d move on to passing a plate of cannoli and playing a rousing game of Taboo. This was the America I grew up in, the America I was promised. Trump took that away. Right after the election, I “unfriended” the last one of the boys I used to ride the bus with who I was still connected to on Facebook. He’d posted a “your body, my choice” meme to his wall. That boy was picked up at the stop right after mine to be taken to middle school. He and the other boys in his group would push other kids’ heads as they stormed to the back of the bus yelling obscenities, launching spitballs, and lighting seats on fire so the whole bus filled with the smell of burning rubber and sometimes hair when they got bored and moved on to flicking their lighters at each other’s knees and heads. We went through five bus drivers in one year, no one able to withstand their unruliness. Dad ended up driving me to a stop on a different bus route in the morning. This wasn’t the America he remembered as a kid, the America that made him want to be a bus driver. The kids who lit the bus on fire grew up to be a different kind of Republican than Dad remembers, too. My dad’s hometown of Rochester, New York reeks of Americana. His parents were the first inhabitants of their little house there in the early '50s and were very proud to provide a life to go with it — an American dream. My grandfather worked hard for the US post office, my grandmother was a homemaker, and my dad and his brother enjoyed an idyllic childhood riding bikes, getting donuts after church, and even holding an annual presidential election for their favorite bears. According to his younger brother, Dad’s bear always won. When I went back to Rochester to reconnect with family last year, I drove past his childhood home and found the neighborhood looking shabbier than before, surrounded by strip malls and chain-link fences. On the front lawn of his old house was a big truck, another in the driveway. The new owner’s hat was red. This scared me, like my electric vehicle seemed to scare him. We connected over the old America, when he recognized my last name. “LaBue,” he said with a big grin, “of course!” This recognition was a little slice of the way life used to be. He let me take some pictures in front of his house, and I imagine we both thought of how much things have changed. The author, 19 weeks pregnant, visits her father's childhood home. The current owner moved his second truck off the lawn so that Sammi could take this picture. Every Christmas since losing my dad has felt emptier than my first 15 Christmases. Once you lose a parent young, you can never go back to the fullness of a holiday as a kid. My mom and sister and I have always tried, building new traditions, keeping up the old, and showering each other in presents. My niece, nephew, and daughter have made it better — getting to experience it through the eyes of Dad’s grandchildren. Now I also have this complicated gratitude. Not knowing what my dad thinks of my career, my daughter, even the Yankees’ performance in the World Series will always give me a kind of windless sock to my stomach. But another type of wondering evokes a different emotion: Would my dad worry about my rights and those of my daughter like I worried about him becoming a bus driver? Would he protect me from the kid on the bus like I tried to protect him? This type of not knowing is a relief. Now I get to decide that he would. Now I get to picture how he would fit into this future. I imagine that just as he wanted to carry the burdensome weight of the dogs at my veterinary practice, he would want to help carry the load of these burdens, too. The Strictly Come Dancing 2024 final will air this Saturday (December 14) Vito Coppola and Sarah Hadland have expressed their affection for each other ahead of the Strictly Come Dancing final. The grand finale of the 2024 series is set to take place on Saturday, December 14. It's been confirmed that the couple will perform their Show Dance to Cabaret by Metropole Orkest, their American Smooth to Proud by Heather Small, and their Cha Cha to Like A Prayer by Madonna, all in a bid to win the coveted Glitterball trophy. Sarah, best known for her role as Stevie Sutton in the BBC sitcom Miranda, has shared her surprise at making it to the end of Strictly's 20th-anniversary series. At a press conference, the 53 year-old was asked if it had sunk in yet, to which she responded: "Not really, no. Because I was convinced we were going to be in that (semi-final) dance-off. I said to you (Vito), where do we go? Because we've never been in a dance-off. And I was like, where do we go? Where will we warm up? I was so convinced." Vito admitted that when co-host Tess Daly announced they had been saved, they "did not expect it at all". However, one person who has been rooting for Sarah, also known as Hadders, is her Miranda co-star and close friend Miranda Hart, reports the Manchester Evening News . The comedian and actress, who watched Sarah live in the ballroom a few weeks ago, has been sharing videos on social media directed at Vito and Sarah, acting as their unofficial 'choreographer'. This week, fans noticed the lack of a new video from Miranda, which she explained in a recent Instagram clip: "Hello, lots of people asking why I didn't do choreography Tuesday for Hadders and Vito for the final. Well, I'll tell you why. Guys, I've taught you all you need to know. I'm an empty husk of choreography and I've got you this far. I got you to the final and now it's over to you... Joking apart, laughter aside, thank you for bringing such joy to us all this autumn and just so much love and luck for Saturday. I can't wait. "To bring it back to me again, it happens to be my birthday and it's the best birthday gift that you're in the final. Love you both so much! " Sarah was quick to join the conversation with her reply: "I mean really could we have got this far without the choreography captain ? ? ? ? I think not caller. Love oooooo." Similarly, Vito expressed his gratitude: "Mirandaaaaaaa Thank you so so much for all the ideas, notes, choreography tips during the entire season. It's actually a trouple us 3. You have been with us since day one until the final and we will give our best also for you. We will celebrate your birthday keeping dancing. The biggest massive THANK YOU. We Love you so very much."
By David Morgan WASHINGTON (Reuters) -Republicans in the U.S. Congress are discussing a two-step plan to push ahead on President-elect Donald Trump's agenda when they take control of both chambers next year, potentially starting with border security, energy and defense before turning to tax cuts. Incoming Senate Majority Leader John Thune, whose Republicans will hold a 53-47 majority, laid out a plan in a closed-door party meeting on Tuesday that included a call from Trump himself. It aims to use a parliamentary maneuver to bypass the chamber's "filibuster" rule that requires 60 senators to agree to advance most legislation. According to the Senate plan, the first bill would focus on Trump's agenda for border security, energy deregulation and defense spending, while the second would extend tax cuts from the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act passed during the first Trump presidency, which are due to expire next year. Thune told reporters that the plan amounted to "options, all of which our members are considering." To enact Trump's agenda, the Senate will have to work closely with the president-elect and the House of Representatives, which is expected to have a razor-thin Republican majority. "We were always planning to do reconciliation in two packages. So we're discussing right now how to allocate the various provisions, and we're making those decisions over the next couple of days," said House Speaker Mike Johnson, who joined Senate Republicans at their meeting. "There are different ideas on what to put in the first package and what in the second, and we're trying to build consensus around those ideas," Johnson told reporters. The speaker also said that he believes Congress in coming weeks will pursue a continuing resolution, or CR, that would fund federal agencies into March. Current funding is set to expire on Dec. 20. Before moving a first reconciliation bill, the House and Senate will need to agree on a budget resolution to unlock the "reconciliation" tool they plan to use to bypass the filibuster. Aides said senators hope to do that by the end of January and then move quickly to complete the first bill by March 31. "We have the trifecta for two years. About 18 months is all we're really going to have to really get things done," Republican Senator Mike Rounds told reporters. Democrats also leaned heavily on reconciliation to pass legislation when they held control of both chambers during the first two years of President Joe Biden's term. Republican Senator Rand Paul, a fiscal hawk, raised concerns about the plan's cost. "This is not a fiscally conservative notion," Paul said. "So at this point, I'm not for it, unless there are significant spending cuts attached." Extending Trump's tax cuts for individuals and small businesses will add $4 trillion to the current $36 trillion in total U.S. debt over 10 years. Trump also promised voters generous new tax breaks, including ending taxes on Social Security, overtime and tip income and restoring deductions for car loan interest. The tab is likely to reach $7.75 trillion above the CBO baseline over 10 years, according to the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a non-partisan fiscal watchdog group. Quarterbacks in spotlight when No. 6 Miami visits Syracuse, reggae, Usain Bolt, Red Stripe and an unlikely bobsleigh team... has given the world many brilliant things. Not least James Bond, who was birthed at the typewriter of in his Jamaican hideaway, GoldenEye. If your pockets are deep enough, you can rent Fleming’s original villa and, yes, his writing desk is still there. This is where Scaramanga and his three nipples and secret tropical lair were dreamt up: with its panoramic view over Oracabessa Bay and private beach, it’s easy to see how the latter came into Fleming’s mind; one can only wonder about the former. Chris Blackwell, the music-mogul behind Island Records, has owned GoldenEye since 1976. His friend Bob Marley sold it to him after complaining it was “too posh”. But Blackwell’s relationship with this special place goes way back: he remembers as a child visiting Fleming here with his mother, Blanche, who was one of the novelist’s BFFs. In fact, it was Blackwell’s uncle who originally found the land for Fleming back in 1946 when it was nothing more than 15 acres of overgrown shrub and a derelict donkey racetrack. Fast-forward to today and, after some ingenious development, GoldenEye is on the bucket list of every self-respecting traveller. Needless to say, when an invitation to visit popped up in my inbox my wife and I didn’t need any persuading. Which reminds me of that old and not very funny joke, you know the one: “I went to the Caribbean recently with my wife.” Jamaica? “No, she was happy to go.” Sorry, I told you it wasn’t very funny. Back to GoldenEye. Now set over 56 acres, this village-like resort consists of cottages and villas snaking along a lagoon and little huts perched on stilts over Low Cay Beach. Originally designed by Barbara Hulanicki, the genius behind London’s long-gone emporium Biba, each property is an exercise in low-key luxury. Ours (beachfront hut #45) was a delight, thanks in no small part to its sea-view veranda: the ideal place to enjoy an early morning Blue Mountain coffee or a sundowner punch (the complimentary bottle of Blackwell Rum was a nice touch). For the adventurous, there are plenty of activities from kayaking along the coast and paddle boarding around the lagoon to snorkeling off the nearby coral reef. Personally, I found my happy place on Button Beach, dipping in its bath-like waters and staying “hydrated” at the well-stocked Bamboo Bar; I still think about the jerk BBQ lunch at its adjoining grill. Dinner under the stars at the Bizot Restaurant was also unforgettable: we had a delicious curried fish stew accompanied by a local musician performing a transcendent version of by The Cars. From live bands every night to hidden speakers on the beach, music is everywhere at GoldenEye. Another standout was the Swedish Aroma Massage at the property’s FieldSpa, housed in Naomi Campbell’s old holiday cottage on the lagoon. On the walk there I passed a forest of trees planted by famous names including Johnny Depp, Willie Nelson and Kate Moss. I spotted Lila Moss’ East Indian Mango planted in 2011 and sent a quick pic to her father, Jefferson. “Great to see it’s thriving,” he texted back. Sadly the same can’t be said for Cindy Crawford’s withered tree: somebody please water it. What Blackwell and his team have done at GoldenEye is clever. They have taken all the raw ingredients of Jamaica — the food, the music, the easy-come atmosphere — and reimagined it into a high-performing, customer-friendly idyll. Case in point: Sherifia, our personal concierge, was on Whatsapp 24/7 for all our needs, signing off every message with a “one love”. But if it’s the authentic, chaotic edge of the island you’re after, don’t worry: it’s waiting for you just in earshot on the other side of Button Beach. Leaving the blissful sanctity of GoldenEye was never going to be an easy process so we tagged on a quick stay at its twin property Strawberry Hill. Nestled up high in the Blue Mountains (365 hairpin corners to be precise), it’s a magical spot with small cottages hugging the steep hillside, an infinity pool overlooking Kingston far below and humming birds at breakfast. According to our in-the-know taxi driver, it’s up for sale, so hurry. Bond villains need not apply. Rates at GoldenEye start from £388 and from £292 for Strawberry Hill.
SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — The president of South Korea early Wednesday lifted the martial law he imposed on the country hours earlier, bending to political pressure after a tense night in which troops surrounded parliament and lawmakers voted to reject military rule. President Yoon Suk Yeol, who appeared likely to be impeached over his actions, imposed martial law late Tuesday out of frustration with the opposition, vowing to eliminate “anti-state” forces as he struggles against opponents who control parliament and that he accuses of sympathizing with communist North Korea. Police and military personnel were seen leaving the grounds of parliament following the bipartisan vote to overrule the president, and the declaration was formally lifted around 4:30 a.m. during a Cabinet meeting. Parliament acted swiftly after martial law was imposed, with National Assembly Speaker Woo Won Shik declaring that the law was “invalid” and that lawmakers would “protect democracy with the people.” In all, martial law was in effect for about six hours. The president’s surprising move harkened back to an era of authoritarian leaders that the country has not seen since the 1980s, and it was immediately denounced by the opposition and the leader of Yoon’s own conservative party. Lee Jae-myung , leader of the liberal Democratic Party, which holds the majority in the 300-seat parliament, said the party’s lawmakers would remain in the Assembly’s main hall until Yoon formally lifted his order. Woo applauded how troops quickly left the Assembly after the vote. “Even with our unfortunate memories of military coups, our citizens have surely observed the events of today and saw the maturity of our military,” Woo said. While announcing his plan to lift martial law, Yoon continued to criticize parliament’s attempts to impeach key government officials and senior prosecutors. He said lawmakers had engaged in “unscrupulous acts of legislative and budgetary manipulation that are paralyzing the functions of the state.” Jo Seung-lae, a Democratic lawmaker, claimed that security camera footage following Yoon’s declaration showed that troops moved in a way that suggested they were trying to arrest Lee, Woo and even Han Dong-hoon, the leader of Yoon’s People Power Party. Officials from Yoon’s office and the Defense Ministry did not respond to requests for comment early Wednesday. Seemingly hundreds of protesters gathered in front of the Assembly, waving banners and calling for Yoon’s impeachment. Some protesters scuffled with troops ahead of the lawmakers’ vote, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or major property damage. At least one window was broken as troops attempted to enter the Assembly building. One woman tried unsuccessfully to pull a rifle away from one of the soldiers, while shouting “Aren’t you embarrassed?” Under South Korea’s constitution, the president can declare martial law during “wartime, war-like situations or other comparable national emergency states” that require the use of military force to maintain peace and order. It was questionable whether South Korea is currently in such a state. When martial law is declared, “special measures” can be employed to restrict freedom of press, freedom of assembly and other rights, as well as the power of courts. The constitution also states that the president must oblige when the National Assembly demands the lifting of martial law with a majority vote. Following Yoon’s announcement of martial law, South Korea’s military proclaimed that parliament and other political gatherings that could cause “social confusion” would be suspended, South Korea’s Yonhap news agency said. The military said anyone who violated the decree could be arrested without a warrant. In Washington, the White House said the U.S. was “seriously concerned” by the events in Seoul. A spokesperson for the National Security Council said President Joe Biden’s administration was not notified in advance of the martial law announcement and was in contact with the South Korean government. Pentagon spokesman Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder said there was no effect on the more than 27,000 U.S. service members based in South Korea. The South Korean military also said that the country’s striking doctors should return to work within 48 hours, Yonhap said. Thousands of doctors have been striking for months over government plans to expand the number of students at medical schools. Soon after martial law was declared, the parliament speaker called on his YouTube channel for all lawmakers to gather at the National Assembly. He urged military and law enforcement personnel to “remain calm and hold their positions. All 190 lawmakers who participated in the vote supported the lifting of martial law. At one point, television footage showed police officers blocking the entrance of the National Assembly and helmeted soldiers carrying rifles in front of the building. An Associated Press photographer saw at least three helicopters, likely from the military, that landed inside the Assembly grounds, while two or three helicopters circled above the site. The leader of Yoon’s conservative party called the decision to impose martial law “wrong.” Lee, who narrowly lost to Yoon in the 2022 presidential election, said Yoon’s announcement was “illegal and unconstitutional.” Yoon said during a televised speech that martial law would help “rebuild and protect” the country from “falling into the depths of national ruin.” He said he would “eradicate pro-North Korean forces and protect the constitutional democratic order.” “I will eliminate anti-state forces as quickly as possible and normalize the country,” he said, while asking the people to believe in him and tolerate “some inconveniences.” Yoon — whose approval rating dipped in recent months — has struggled to push his agenda against an opposition-controlled parliament since taking office in 2022. His party has been locked in an impasse with the liberal opposition over next year’s budget bill. The opposition has also attempted to impeach three top prosecutors, including the chief of the central Seoul prosecutors’ office, in what the conservatives have called a vendetta against their criminal investigations of Lee, who has been seen as the favorite for the next presidential election in 2027 in opinion polls. During his televised announcement, Yoon also described the opposition as “shameless pro-North Korean anti-state forces who are plundering the freedom and happiness of our citizens.” He did not elaborate. Yoon has taken a hard line on North Korea over its nuclear ambitions, departing from the policies of his liberal predecessor, Moon Jae-in, who pursued inter-Korean engagement. Yoon has also dismissed calls for independent investigations into scandals involving his wife and top officials, drawing quick, strong rebukes from his political rivals. Yoon’s move was the first declaration of martial law since the country’s democratization in 1987. The country’s last previous martial law was in October 1979, following the assassination of former military dictator Park Chung-hee. Sydney Seiler, Korean chair at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, argued that the move was symbolic for Yoon to express his frustration with the opposition-controlled parliament. “He has nothing to lose,” said Seiler, comparing Yoon’s move to the Hail Mary pass in American football, with a slim chance of success. Now Yoon faces likely impeachment, a scenario that was also possible before he made the bold move, Seiler said. Natalia Slavney, research analyst at the Stimson Center’s 38 North website that focuses on Korean affairs, said Yoon’s imposition of martial law was “a serious backslide of democracy" that followed a “worrying trend of abuse” since he took office in 2022. South Korea “has a robust history of political pluralism and is no stranger to mass protests and swift impeachments,” Slavney said, citing the example of former President Park Geun-hye, the country’s first female president, who was ousted from office and imprisoned for bribery and other crimes in 2017 . Associated Press writers Hyung-jin Kim in Seoul, South Korea, and Matt Lee, Didi Tang and Tara Copp in Washington contributed to this report.Coreline Soft Showcases AI-Powered Lung Disease Diagnostics at RSNA 2024Losing weight and having a lean physique is a desire for many, nevertheless, for most, it stays just that — a dream. Have you ever wondered why? Why do some people seem to lose weight effortlessly, while others fight their entire lives? Why don't healthy nutrition and everyday exercise always produce the expected results? If you've heard that it's due to metabolism or a slow metabolic rate, you're half correct. Get started with Mitolyn today! Importance Of Healthy Mitochondria Levels Mitochondria, sometimes known as the "powerhouses of the cell," play an important part in maintaining a healthy weight. When their function is disrupted, a series of issues arise, making weight management difficult. One of the most serious concerns associated with damaged mitochondria is the body's inability to burn fat efficiently. Mitochondria turn stored calories and fat into energy. When these tiny structures are damaged, fat oxidation decreases, resulting in persistent weight gain that nutrition and physical activity alone cannot reverse. Low mitochondrial levels also result in lower energy generation, which has a direct impact on physical activity. Individuals with poor mitochondrial health frequently feel fatigued, making it harder to maintain a vigorous routine or engage in regular workouts. This lack of mobility exacerbates weight growth, resulting in an endless cycle. Furthermore, damaged mitochondria cause hormonal abnormalities since they regulate metabolic hormones. Disruptions in these hormones can cause increased hunger, poor satiety, and a tendency to retain fat rather than burn it. Chronic inflammation and oxidative stress are two additional problems linked with mitochondrial dysfunction. These factors not only impede metabolism but also encourage the storage of visceral fat, raising the risk of obesity-related illnesses. Without addressing these underlying causes, maintaining a healthy body weight is extremely impossible. Mitolyn is a science-backed, novel approach to weight loss that targets a primary reason that most fat management treatments overlook: low mitochondrial levels. These little powerhouses within your cells play an important part in your body's capacity to burn fat, generate energy, and maintain overall health. But how does Mitolyn do this? Mitolyn's success is based on its capacity to support and possibly increase the activity of mitochondria. Mitochondria transform the food you ingest into energy, known as ATP. This energy powers everything, from muscular contraction to brain activity. Low mitochondrial levels reduce energy generation, delay fat burning and cause undesirable weight gain. Mitolyn works to rejuvenate these cellular powerhouses, potentially helping your body burn fat more efficiently and produce the energy it requires to survive. Mitolyn is a holistic health supplement that does more than just help you lose weight. It can help promote cholesterol balance and may improve circulation, both of which benefit heart health. The mixture can also improve immune function, allowing your body to fight off infections more efficiently. It may help improve skin, liver and digestive health, possibly resulting in a more vibrant and energetic lifestyle. Chronic stress is a silent impediment to successful weight management. Mitolyn contains substances that may help control stress hormones, boost mood and promote mental clarity. Mitolyn can help promote the smoothest possible weight loss path by addressing both physical and mental well-being. Researchers discovered that decreased mitochondrial levels are a common cause in obese people. Mitolyn builds on this discovery by addressing the cellular basis of energy and fat metabolism. It's a comprehensive program designed to help you accomplish not only weight loss but also total energy and wellness. After a thorough research and examination, here are some of the main Mitolyn ingredients: Rhodiola is a potent adaptogen known for its potential ability to battle both physical and mental stress, making it a crucial element in Mitolyn. Stress frequently disturbs the body's metabolism, resulting in weight gain and energy depletion. WASHINGTON - US President Joe Biden’s administration is preparing a US$725 million (S$973 million) weapons package for Ukraine, two US officials said on Nov 27, as the outgoing president seeks to bolster the government in Kyiv before leaving office in January. According to an official familiar with the plan, the Biden administration plans to provide a variety of anti-tank weapons from US stocks to blunt Russia's advancing troops, including land mines, drones, Stinger missiles and ammunition for High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (Himars). The package is also expected to include cluster munitions, which are typically found in Guided Multiple Launch Rocket System (GMLRS) rockets fired by Himars launchers, according to the notification, seen by Reuters. The formal notification to Congress of the weapons package could come as soon as Dec 2, one official said. The contents and size of the package could change in the coming days ahead of Mr Biden’s expected signature. It marks a steep uptick in size from Mr Biden’s recent use of so-called Presidential Drawdown Authority (PDA), which allows the US to draw from current weapons stocks to help allies in an emergency. Recent PDA announcements have typically ranged from US$125 million to US$250 million. Mr Biden has an estimated US$4 billion to US$5 billion in PDA already authorised by Congress that he is expected to use before Republican President-elect Donald Trump takes office on Jan 20. The United States has not exported landmines in decades, and their use is controversial because of the potential harm to civilians. Although more than 160 countries have signed a treaty banning their use, Kyiv has been asking for them since Russia launched its full-scale invasion in early 2022 and Russian forces have used them on the front lines. The landmines that would be sent to Ukraine are “non-persistent” landmines, with a power system that lasts for just a short time, leaving the devices non-lethal. This means that - unlike older landmines - they would not remain in the ground, threatening civilians indefinitely. Russian forces currently are making gains in Ukraine at the fastest rate since the early days of the 2022 invasion, taking an area half the size of London over the past month, analysts and war bloggers said this week. The United States expects Ukraine to use the mines in its own territory, though it has committed not to use them in areas populated with its own civilians. Trump on Nov 27 tapped Keith Kellogg, a retired lieutenant general who presented him with a plan to end the war in Ukraine, to serve as special envoy for the conflict. Quickly winding down the Ukraine war was one of Trump’s central campaign promises, though he has avoided discussing how he would do so. KOCHI: The central government informed the High Court that steps are being taken to provide assistance in the Wayanad landslide disaster. The report was submitted by the State of Kerala at an estimated cost of Rs 2219.033 crore for rehabilitation and restoration projects. Assistance will be provided as per norms. A high-level committee meeting held on November 16 approved the release of Rs 153,467 crore from the National Disaster Response Fund( NDRF). On August 19, the State of Kerala had applied for additional assistance of Rs 214.68 crore for temporary rehabilitation. The central team submitted its report before the national executive committee, which met on October 1 under the chairmanship of the home secretary. Rs 153.467 crore was sanctioned following this. The funds were provided for the rescue mission by air, distribution of food and the cost of using machines to move rocks and other debris. This information was given in an affidavit filed by Ashish V Gawai, Director, Disaster Management, Ministry of Home Affairs. Hartal another Tragedy: High Court Criticism for the government and the opposition KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has termed the hartal called by the LDF and UDF to protest against the Centre's neglect of Wayanad as another tragedy. The court also warned that no one should think that the court will sit idle. The court was considering the suo motu case taken up in connection with the reconstruction of Wayanad. "Such anti-social activities are unacceptable. Even God does not know what is happening in Kerala, god's own country. Will any foreign tourist come to this country?" the division bench comprising Justice AK Jayasankaran Nambiar and Justice KV Jayakumar asked. The hartal was called on Tuesday to protest against the stand that the Mundakkai and Chooralmala landslides were not a national disaster. The government should be ready to stay away from anti-people activities. The opposition's assurance that there will be no flash hartal was also in vain. Notice should be given 15 days before the hartal. Seeing all this makes the court feel sorry and surprised. Won't you let the poor work and live? (Five questions from the court)

NoneMANCHESTER, England (AP) — Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola denied he has a “personal problem” with Kevin De Bruyne and insisted Tuesday the playmaker's absence from the team in recent weeks was down to his fitness issues. City has not won in seven games in all competitions — its worst run under Guardiola — and De Bruyne has featured only as a substitute in the last five of those matches after recovering from a pelvic injury.
