Bob Menendez asked a judge Wednesday to set aside guilty verdicts that forced his resignation from the U.S. Senate and grant a new bribery trial. Lawyers for the New Jersey Democrat said in papers filed in Manhattan federal court that a recent revelation by prosecutors that improper evidence was put on a computer used by jurors during deliberations means that a new trial is “unavoidable.” The 70-year-old Menendez was convicted in July of 16 charges , including bribery, in part based on an allegation that he accepted bribes in exchange for approving military aid to Egypt. He awaits a Jan. 29 sentencing. Menendez resigned from the Senate in August. At trial, prosecutors said Menendez accepted gold and cash from three New Jersey businessmen in return for favors. Earlier this month, prosecutors revealed in a letter to Judge Sidney H. Stein that they had discovered that some factual information that the judge had ruled should be excluded from several trial exhibits was instead inadvertently loaded onto a computer used by jurors to reach their verdict. In their letter, prosecutors said incorrect versions of nine government exhibits were missing some redactions ordered by Stein to ensure that the exhibits did not violate the Constitution’s Speech or Debate Clause, which protects speech relating to information shared by legislators. Prosecutors argued in their letter that no action was necessary in light of the error for several reasons, including that defense lawyers did not object after they inspected documents on that laptop before it was given to jurors. They also said there was a “reasonable likelihood” that no jurors saw the erroneously redacted versions of the exhibits and that the documents could not have prejudiced the defendants anyway because they were of “secondary relevance and cumulative with abundant properly admitted evidence.” Lawyers for Menendez, though, said in their submission Wednesday that the exhibits contained the “only evidence in the record” tying Menendez to military aid to Egypt, “an otherwise-missing fact at the very center of the central charge against him.” RECOMMENDED • nj .com Super Football Conference: Ivy White All-Division teams, 2024 Nov. 22, 2024, 1:29 p.m. Saint Peter’s new prez fulfills dream to help young people find their way Nov. 21, 2024, 12:16 p.m. “In light of this serious breach, a new trial is unavoidable, despite all the hard work and resources that went into the first one,” they wrote. The lawyers criticized the government’s attempt to shift blame for the error onto them by saying they viewed the laptop’s contents and approved it. “That is both factually and legally outrageous,” they wrote. “The defense had only a few hours to review a laptop that contained nearly 3,000 exhibits; it had the right to expect that the government had not mislabeled non-introduced and constitutionally barred exhibits as admitted ones. If this were treated as a waiver, that would give parties the incentive to intentionally try to pull a fast one.1 Growth Stock Down 93% to Buy Right Now

See at AmazonEXTO+ (Exchange Token Plus) Is Now Available For Trading On Lbank ExchangeThe sports media world lost a pioneer on Friday, as longtime USA TODAY sports columnist Rudy Martzke died at the age of 82. Martzke was a columnist at the newspaper from 1982 through his retirement in 2005, establishing what is said to be America's first national sports media column. Martzke was one of the first journalists to dedicate himself to the coverage of sports media, applying a depth and care to the beat that few have been able to replicate. His column in USA TODAY often detailed the major sports media news of the time, including media rights deals and and the movement of personalities across outlets. Martzke may have retired from the newspaper in 2005, but he remained active on the sports media beat, sharing stories, news and anecdotes until this very month on social media. After Marzke's passing, several members of the sports media world are remembering him and offering condolences to his family. Michael Blackshire/Getty Images "Very sad about the passing of the great Rudy Martzke. A friend, great sense of humor, bulldog reporter, fellow Badger (and a huge fan), sports media industry legend. Helped many a PR person (definitely me) and others across the industry with their careers...hurt a few, too," said NBC Sports' Greg Hughes . "Gutted by passing of Rudy Martzke. All of us who cover Sports Media, owe a huge debt to this legendary reporter. When I started at USA TODAY, I was honored and flattered when he sought me out to tell me liked my work. I was walking on air. God Bless him and his family. RIP," said Front Office Sports' Michael McCarthy . "When you saw this byline in USA TODAY Sports you knew it would be a must-read. Never had the chance to work w/ Rudy Martzke but met him after I joined ESPN. A legendary figure and a good man. Very sad to hear of his passing today," said ESPN's Bill Hofheimer. "Rudy blazed a trail that forced most major market newspapers to cover sports television in ways it had never been covered before. Sports Executives as well as Broadcasters all religiously read his Monday columns. RIP Rudy “Toot” and much love to Mouse (his wife) and family that were always by his side," said longtime broadcaster Tim Brando. "RIP the great Rudy Martzke. My high school sports broadcasting teacher would Xerox his columns and pass them out to the class. I read every one and followed him from there. If I couldn’t cover a team professionally, I wanted to cover media. He was my influence," said Jeff Agrest of the Chicago Sun-Times . Martzke's legacy will live on in the reporters, broadcasters and other journalists who read his work and were inspired. His decades of experience and knowledge on sports media proved to be an invaluable resource, making him one of the most well-respected sports journalists in the country. Rest in peace to Rudy Martzke, and we send condolences to his friends, family and loved ones during this difficult time. North Dakota’s snowmobile season kicks off officially on Dec. 1Bears interim coach Thomas Brown insists he's focused on task at hand and not what his future holdsPrime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on Monday urged the public to support government efforts to end violence against children and women. She was referring to the government's anti-violence campaign efforts, which are part of this year's National Violence Elimination Against Children and Women Month. The government designated November as the month of National Violence Elimination Against Children and Women in 1999, aligning with the United Nations' International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women on Nov 25. Ms Paetongtarn said the government has for this year planned an anti-violence awareness campaign under the theme "Act Now to End Violence against Women and Girls". The campaign aims to prioritise the end of domestic violence, promote empathy and raise public knowledge of relevant legal protections. According to Ms Paetongtarn, families are the most important unit of society, and they are a protective shield and foundation of one's strength and security. However, she said domestic violence, both physical and mental, has become more of an issue. Ms Paetongtarn said a lack of social intervention is a factor that allows domestic violence to continue. She said the matter should not be regarded as a personal issue but a societal problem. She encouraged people encountering domestic violence to call the police or the Social Assistance Centre 1300 Hotline. The National Human Rights Commission of Thailand (NHRC) issued a statement on Monday marking the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. It called on the government to follow protocols listed in the Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, especially to include domestic violence as a national agenda. The government was urged to amend related laws to provide more protection to victims of violent crimes and address issues of social identity complexity that might lead women, such as those with disability and ethnicity, to be at more risk of falling victim. NHRC also called for the protection of female activists who are at risk of being harassed. According to the Thai Health Promotion Foundation (ThaiHealth), at least 30,000 women each year file a petition stating their rights have been violated or that they were physically assaulted or emotionally abused.

Moreover, the great diversity of flora and fauna that can be seen at a glance is the best learning about biodiversity. Walking on a sand whale tail The Marino Ballena National Park, on the southwest Pacific coast, is a renowned spot for humpback whale watching, but it is also known for the sand formation called the Tombolo. During low tide, this formation looks from the air like a whale’s tail, and from the land, you can walk on it, observing a real whale’s tail.
