WASHINGTON (AP) — A person accused of accosting U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace in a Capitol Office building pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to a misdemeanor assault charge. Witnesses told police that James McIntyre, 33, of Chicago, shook Mace's hand in an “exaggerated, aggressive” manner after approaching the South Carolina Republican in the Rayburn House Office Building on Tuesday evening, according to a police affidavit. Mace, who is identified only by her initials in a court filing, posted a string of social media messages about the incident. She said she was “physically accosted” at the Capitol, and she thanked President-elect Donald Trump for calling her Wednesday morning to check on her condition. “I’m going to be fine just as soon as the pain and soreness subside,” Mace wrote. Mace declined to be treated by a paramedic after her encounter with McIntyre, who was arrested Tuesday by the Capitol Police, the affidavit says. Mace told police that McIntyre said, “Trans youth serve advocacy,” while shaking her hand. Last month, Mace proposed a resolution that would prohibit any lawmakers and House employees from “using single-sex facilities other than those corresponding to their biological sex.” Mace said the bill is aimed specifically at Delaware Democrat Sarah McBride — the first transgender person to be elected to Congress. A magistrate judge ordered McIntyre’s release after an arraignment in Superior Court of the District of Columbia. Efforts to reach an attorney for McIntyre weren't immediately successful.Witnesses told police that James McIntyre, 33, of Chicago, shook Mace's hand in an “exaggerated, aggressive” manner after approaching the South Carolina Republican in the Rayburn House Office Building on Tuesday evening, according to a police affidavit. The Minnesota Golden Gophers (6-4) are putting up a fight against the No. 4-ranked Penn State Nittany Lions (9-1), leading at Huntington Bank Stadium, 19-16. Minnesota has dominated the ground game on offense, rushing 21 times for 84 yards (4 yards per carry), including a first-quarter rushing touchdown by running back Marcus Major. The Golden Gophers jumped out to a quick 10-0 lead early in the second quarter before the Nittany Lions came back and tied it. Related: Gophers opening drive results in touchdown vs. No. 4 Penn State Follow us on Facebook Penn State quarterback Drew Allar found a wide open Omari Evans for a 45-yard touchdown pass, as the wide receiver was wide open on what appeared to be a blown coverage by Minnesota. The Gophers also made a huge play on special teams, as Derik LeCaptain blocked a punt in the end zone at the end of the half that was downed at the 21-yard line. THE PUNT IS BLOCKED! HUGE PLAY FOR MINNESOTA. pic.twitter.com/P74tZ2PvhJ Minnesota ran a flea flicker end-around back to Brosmer, who found a wide open Jameson Geers for a 21-yard touchdown pass with just over a minute remaining in the half. SOME MINNESOTA MAGIC! pic.twitter.com/awgGlRhdRS The Nittany Lions caught a big break towards the end of the half after Minnesota scored, as Allar threw a deep pass to Harrison Wallace II that appeared to be an uncatchable ball and a defensive pass interference call was made against the Gophers. The penalty helped the Nittany Lions move the ball into Minnesota's territory and ultimately scored via an Allar four-yard touchdown run. However, the Gophers came through with another block, this time on the extra point, and returned it all the way back for two points to give them a 19-16 lead before the half. TWO POINTS THE OTHER WAY!! pic.twitter.com/eZKC0VdZOx Allar has played well so far, completing 14-for-18 passes for 159 yards. Minnesota has done well in converting on third down, as they're 3-for-7 through one half. P.J. Fleck's team is also 1-for-1 on fourth down conversions. In comparison, Penn State is only 1-for-6 on third down and 0-for-1 on fourth down. The Gophers are making big plays in all three areas (offense, defense and special teams), something Fleck said was crucial to have a shot in knocking off the Nittany Lions. The Gophers have also won the time of possession through two quarters, 17:39 to 12:21. Matt Krohn-Imagn Images

Foxy Brown has raised eyebrows after sharing a series of cryptic social media posts that many fans have interpreted as her response to a rape allegation leveled against fellow rapper Jay-Z, her former mentor. Brown reportedly posted the word “WOW” to her Instagram stories Monday, as well as an additional post featuring the word “WAIT” and a flushed face emoji, as seen in images shared by outlets like TMZ and The Daily Mail . Another post in the series was, simply, a single cold-face emoji. HuffPost reached out to a representative for Brown for comment and clarification on the posts, but did not immediately hear back. The posts’ timing, however, prompted observers to view them as Brown’s response to a civil lawsuit that accuses Jay-Z, whose legal name is Shawn Carter, and fellow music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs of sexually assaulting an underage girl. The plaintiff, listed as “Jane Doe,” alleges that Carter and Combs drugged her and raped her while an unnamed female celebrity watched at a New York house party after the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards. At the time, Doe would have been 13 years old, while Carter and Combs would have both been in their early 30s. The lawsuit was initially filed in October and, at the time, did not mention Carter specifically. A version of the complaint filed Sunday and obtained by HuffPost had been amended to include his name. Later that day, Carter denied the “heinous” allegations in a blistering statement issued through Roc Nation, his entertainment company. He also blasted Doe’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, as a “deplorable human” who has “neither honor nor dignity.” (Combs has similarly denied the allegations.) On Tuesday, Carter’s legal team called for an expedited hearing and demanded that the woman who leveled the allegation against him and Combs be identified. Brown, whose real name is Inga Marchand, was widely considered a Carter protégé in the 1990s. She was featured on his 1996 debut album, “Reasonable Doubt.” The following year, she released the smash single “ I’ll Be ” with him. Other news outlets have retreated behind paywalls. Rumors about the nature of her relationship with Carter have persisted across the decades, fueled ― at least in part ― by rapper Nas’ 2001 song “ Ether ,” which suggested that the two had had an affair. According to Billboard , she appeared eager to dispel that notion in October, when she said a rumor that Carter had made her sign a nondisclosure agreement was “fake news.” Need help? In a post on the social media platform X, Assemblywoman Dawn Fantasia described the drones as up to 6 feet in diameter and sometimes traveling with their lights switched off. The Morris County Republican was among several state and local lawmakers who met with state police and Homeland Security officials to discuss the spate of sightings that range from the New York City area through New Jersey and westward into parts of Pennsylvania, including over Philadelphia. The devices do not appear to be The dronees wereffffflown by hobbyists, Fantasia wrote. Dozens of mysterious nighttime flights started last month and have raised growing concern among residents and officials. Part of the worry stems from the flying objects initially being spotted near the Picatinny Arsenal, a U.S. military research and manufacturing facility; and over President-elect Donald Trump’s golf course in Bedminster. Drones are legal in New Jersey for recreational and commercial use, but they are subject to local and Federal Aviation Administration regulations and flight restrictions. Operators must be FAA certified. Most, but not all, of the drones spotted in New Jersey were larger than those typically used by hobbyists. The number of sightings has increased in recent days, though officials say many of the objects seen may have been planes rather than drones. It’s also possible that a single drone has been reported more than once. Gov. Phil Murphy and law enforcement officials have stressed that the drones don’t appear to threaten public safety. The FBI has been investigating and has asked residents to share any videos, photos or other information they may have. Two Republican Jersey Shore-area congressmen, U.S. Reps. Chris Smith and Jeff Van Drew, have called on the military to shoot down the drones. Smith said a Coast Guard commanding officer briefed him on an incident over the weekend in which a dozen drones followed a motorized Coast Guard lifeboat “in close pursuit” near Barnegat Light and Island Beach State Park in Ocean County. Coast Guard Lt. Luke Pinneo told The Associated Press Wednesday “that multiple low-altitude aircraft were observed in vicinity of one of our vessels near Island Beach State Park.” The aircraft weren't perceived as an immediate threat and didn't disrupt operations, Pinneo said. The Coast Guard is assisting the FBI and state agencies in investigating. In a letter to U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, Smith called for military help dealing with the drones, noting that Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst has the capability "to identify and take down unauthorized unmanned aerial systems.” However, Pentagon spokeswoman Sabrina Singh told reporters Wednesday that “our initial assessment here is that these are not drones or activities coming from a foreign entity or adversary.” Many municipal lawmakers have called for more restrictions on who is entitled to fly the unmanned devices. At least one state lawmaker proposed a temporary ban on drone flights in the state. “This is something we’re taking deadly seriously. I don’t blame people for being frustrated," Murphy said earlier this week. A spokesman for the Democratic governor said he did not attend Wednesday's meeting. Republican Assemblyman Erik Peterson, whose district includes parts of the state where the drones have been reported, said he also attended Wednesday's meeting at a state police facility in West Trenton. The session lasted for about 90 minutes. Peterson said DHS officials were generous with their time, but appeared dismissive of some concerns, saying not all the sightings reported have been confirmed to involve drones. So who or what is behind the flying objects? Where are they coming from? What are they doing? “My understanding is they have no clue,” Peterson said. A message seeking comment was left with the Department of Homeland Security. Most of the drones have been spotted along coastal areas and some were recently reported flying over a large reservoir in Clinton. Sightings also have been reported in neighboring states. James Edwards, of Succasunna, New Jersey, said he has seen a few drones flying over his neighborhood since last month. “It raises concern mainly because there's so much that's unknown,” Edwards said Wednesday. “There are lots of people spouting off about various conspiracies that they believe are in play here, but that only adds fuel to the fire unnecessarily. We need to wait and see what is really happening here, not let fear of the unknown overtake us." —— AP reporters Mike Catalini in Morrisville, Pennsylvania; and Wayne Parry in Point Pleasant, New Jersey, contributed to this report.
Assam BJP wrests Congress-stronghold Samaguri in bypollKeir Starmer has been accused of “undermining Brexit” and the will of the people with his plans to hire an EU negotiator to reset Britain’s relationship with the European Union . The role, which comes with a whopping £200,000 per year salary will focus on leading discussions with the trading bloc as the Prime Minister continues to strengthen Britain’s relationship with them. Starmer has made no secret of his desire to “reset” Britain’s relationship with the EU and has made several high-profile trips to EU countries and summits since his election in July. But the plan to hire an additional bureaucrat has caused fury amongst senior figures in the Conservative party who have blasted the direction of travel under the new Prime Minister. Shadow Foreign Secretary Priti Patel MP said: “ Keir Starmer continues to undermine Brexit and our status as a sovereign nation with his plan to take the country back into the EU. “The Conservative Party will not stand by and allow the will of the British people be reversed while Labour arrogantly capitulates to the EU.” Labour says the new approach will tackle trade barriers, address people-smuggling, and enhance cooperation with allies to counter threats such as Russian aggression. Labour sources have dismissed the idea that the move is an attempt to reverse Brexit , with the Prime Minister stating on the record that he has no plans to re-enter the customs union or single market. A Labour source said: “There will be no return to the EU, customs union, single market or freedom of movement.” In October, Keir Starmer pledged to “make Brexit work” at a meeting with European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen. But any reset of relations with the EU is likely to require Britain making concessions including the acceptance of migrants or some form of freedom of movement. Speaking at the time Starmer said: “Better cooperation with the EU will deliver the benefits the British people deserve – securing our borders, keeping us safe and boosting economic growth.” According to the Times , Ms von der Leyen will want the UK to agree to a new asylum pact from 2026 which will see member states resettle a set number of asylum seekers. It is believed that this figure could be as many as 30,000 per year. It is also believed that the EU will push the idea of a youth mobility scheme , something it sees as simple to implement and a gesture of goodwill. One EU official told the Guardian: “The commission mainly wants to see if Starmer is willing to engage on the detail of a youth mobility scheme. If he shows a willingness to do so, that could unlock a lot of other ‘low-hanging fruit’ such as a defence deal.”

Leaders in Alberta’s energy sector say they aren’t panicking after Donald Trump threatened to slap a 25-per-cent tariff on Canadian goods, but they’re still urging Ottawa to take the United States president-elect’s threat as a wake-up call. “As Canadians, we need to be eyes-wide-open on the President-elect’s promise for across-the-board tariffs,” said Lisa Baiton, president and CEO of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers. “It is time to stop dithering around with domestic policy that kills our biggest GDP generators and job creators, like the emissions cap, and move with alacrity to support our most productive industries,” she said. Trump said in a Monday social media post that he’ll issue an executive order as one of his first orders of business imposing a 25-per-cent tariff on all Canadian and Mexican products, adding that the levy will stay in place until both countries crack down on the cross-border flow of migrants and drugs into the U.S. This ups the ante considerably from the 10-per-cent global tariff that Trump campaigned on. Trump vowed during the campaign to renegotiate America’s existing free-trade deal with Canada and Mexico, which is up for review in 2026. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith said Monday evening that Trump’s concerns about vulnerabilities at the Canada-U.S. borders were “valid” and urged Ottawa to meet the president-elect halfway. “We are calling on the federal government to work with the incoming administration to resolve these issues immediately, thereby avoiding any unnecessary tariffs on Canadian exports to the U.S.,” Smith said in a post on X. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Tuesday that he’d agreed to a request from Smith and her fellow premiers to a first ministers’ meeting to talk trade strategy. The meeting will take place virtually on Wednesday afternoon. Heather Exner-Pirot, head of energy studies at the Macdonald-Laurier Institute, said the tariff threat is a prime example of the dictum, “take Trump seriously but not literally.” “Canadian crude oil is a very hard import for the U.S. to replace,” said Exner-Pirot. “Their refineries are optimized for our oil.” Exner-Pirot added that any action seen as hurting Americans at the pump would be damaging for Trump in highly competitive swing states. “The silver lining of this situation is that the American public has never been more aware of how much Canadian oil goes to the U.S.,” said Exner-Pirot. Canada is the top supplier of petroleum to the U.S. accounting for 52 per cent of its gross oil imports in 2023, according to U.S. Energy Information Administration data. rmohamed@postmedia.com Get more deep-dive National Post political coverage and analysis in your inbox with the Political Hack newsletter, where Ottawa bureau chief Stuart Thomson and political analyst Tasha Kheiriddin get at what’s really going on behind the scenes on Parliament Hill every Wednesday and Friday, exclusively for subscribers. The organization has already partnered with the NFL on flag football initiatives and programs. The numbers have been through the roof, with engagement on social media platforms increasing by 86% since flag football was announced as an Olympic invitational sport in October 2023 . The participation of boys and girls ages 6 to 17 in flag football last year peaked at more than 1.6 million, according to USA Football research. “We pride ourselves on elevating the gold standard across the sport,” said Eric Mayes, the managing director of the high performance and national teams for USA Football. “We want to be the best in the world — and stay the best in the world.” Flag football was one of five new sports added to the LA28 program. The already soaring profile of American football only figures to be enhanced by an Olympic appearance. Imagine, say, a few familiar faces take the field, too. Perhaps even NFL stars such as Tyreek Hill or Patrick Mahomes, maybe even past pro football greats donning a flag belt for a country to which they may have ties. Soon after flag football's inclusion, there was chatter of NFL players possibly joining in on the fun. Of course, there are logistical issues to tackle before their inclusion at the LA Olympics, which open July 14, 2028. Among them, training camp, because the Olympics will be right in the middle of it. The big question is this: Will owners permit high-priced players to duck out for a gold-medal pursuit? No decisions have yet been made on the status of NFL players for the Olympics. For now, it's simply about growing the game. There are currently 13 states that sanction girls flag football as a high school varsity sport. Just recently, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles helped pave the way to get it adopted in Pennsylvania. Around the world, it's catching on, too. The women's team from Japan took third at the recent word championships, while one of the best players on the planet is Mexico quarterback Diana Flores . “Could flag football globally become the new soccer? That’s something to aspire to," said Stephanie Kwok , the NFL's vice president of flag football. This type of flag football though, isn't your Thanksgiving Day game with family and friends. There's a learning curve. And given the small roster sizes, versatility is essential. Most national team members need to be a version of Colorado’s two-way standout and Heisman hopeful Travis Hunter. Forget bump-and-run coverage, too, because there's no contact. None. That took some adjusting for Mike Daniels, a defensive back out of West Virginia who earned a rookie minicamp invitation with the Cleveland Browns in 2017. “If a receiver is running around, I’m thinking, ‘OK, I can kind of bump him here and there and nudge him,’” Daniels explained. “They’re like, ‘No, you can’t.’ I’m just like, ‘So I’m supposed to let this guy just run?!’ I really rebelled at the idea at first. But you learn.” The competition for an Olympic roster spot is going to be fierce because only 10 players are expected to make a squad. The best 10 will earn it, too, as credentials such as college All-American or NFL All-Pro take a backseat. “I would actually love" seeing NFL players try out, said Daniels, who's also a personal trainer in Miami. “I’m not going to let you just waltz in here, thinking, ‘I played NFL football for five years. I’m popular. I have a huge name.’ I’m still better than you and I'm going to prove it — until you prove otherwise.” Around the house, Bruce Mapp constantly swivels his hips when turning a hallway corner or if his daughter tries to reach for a hug. It’s his way of working on avoiding a “defender” trying to snare the flag. That approach has earned the receiver out of Coastal Carolina four gold medals with USA Football. The 31-year-old fully plans on going for more gold in Los Angeles. “You grow up watching Usain Bolt (win gold) and the ‘Redeem Team’ led by Kobe Bryant win a gold medal, you're always thinking, ‘That's insane.' Obviously, you couldn't do it in your sport, because I played football," said Mapp, who owns a food truck in the Dallas area. "With the Olympics approaching, that (gold medal) is what my mind is set on." It's a common thought, which is why everything — including talent camps — starts now. “Everybody thinks, ‘Yeah, the U.S. just wins,’” Daniels said. “But we work hard all the time. We don’t just walk in. We don’t just get off the bus thinking, ‘We’re going to beat people.’” AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl and https://twitter.com/AP_NFL
