Gonzaga lands Virginia transfer G Jalen Warley( MENAFN - UkrinForm) Every fourth Ukrainian has a need for accessibility, with 27% of citizens having sick relatives and 22% having family members with disabilities. These statistics were presented by Ukraine's First Lady Olena Zelenska during an expanded session of the Barrier-Free Council, which included local government representatives, reports a Ukrinform correspondent. “Currently, a quarter of Ukrainians face health issues, 27% have sick relatives, 22% have family members with disabilities, and 28% have young children. These figures come from a UNICEF survey... So, every fourth person has a need for barrier-free environments,” Zelenska explained. Reflecting on the progress made under the Barrier-Free Strategy, Zelenska highlighted developments in inclusive education, access to rehabilitation services, and opportunities for people with disabilities to re-skill or start their own businesses. She noted real changes while visiting various Ukrainian communities over the past year. "During my visit to Ternopil this year, I familiarized myself with the work of the Employment Center. Unfortunately, the space cannot yet be described as physically barrier-free, but the center actively helps internally displaced persons from affected communities adapt. The Administrative Service Center (CNAP) in Rivne proved to be an example of welcoming administrators and barrier-free space for absolutely all visitors, including those with disabilities. City Hospital No. 4 in Dnipro has been providing rehabilitation services for several years now, with patients themselves attesting to their high quality. Moreover, they have started training specialists from other hospitals. The Inclusive Resource Center in Slavutych works exemplarily with children with special educational needs," the First Lady said. Zelenska emphasized the importance of supported living programs, citing the Ukrainian Catholic University project in Lviv, where young people with Down syndrome live with assistance from social workers. “This is a crucial form of inclusion. I've seen how it works in the United States. In Ukraine, such projects have mainly relied on foreign funding. It's encouraging that this year, the government passed a resolution to finance supported living from the state budget. Communities, please engage with the Ministry of Social Policy to access this option,” she urged. Zelenska reminded attendees that the Barrier-Free Guidebook has been expanded with practical manuals and solutions. “Imagine the barrier-free route is for you. Test it with a stroller, an elderly relative, or with your eyes closed on a slippery day. Try accessing a service during an air raid alert or waiting for a bus, or just finding a seat at a clinic,” she suggested. Zelenska reiterated that accessibility is not charity or a holiday gesture; it's about creating a society for everyone. In 2020, the First Lady initiated a nationwide conversation on creating a barrier-free society. More than 50,000 people participated in discussions on inclusivity and accessibility. President Volodymyr Zelensky signed a decree in December 2020 to develop a National Strategy for a Barrier-Free Environment, which the Cabinet approved in April 2021, setting goals through 2030. The Senate voted 50-49 against holding a confirmation vote on the nomination of National Labor Relations Board Chair Lauren McFerran, whose term expires next week. Senators Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona, both Democrats who left their party during Biden's term after repeatedly bucking his legislative priorities, provided the decisive votes. Democrats could make another attempt to hold a vote, but it would likely be futile. McFerran's nomination was strongly opposed by business groups and many Republicans, who cited a series of recent NLRB decisions and rules that they say unfairly favored unions. The NLRB generally has three members from the president's party and two from the opposing party. Because their terms are staggered, control of the agency typically does not change hands for a year or two into an administration. Without McFerran, Democrats will hold a 2-1 majority at the NLRB, which enforces workers' rights to join unions and advocate for better working conditions. That means Trump, who takes office next month, could move quickly to shepherd two nominees through the Senate. The Senate vote was praised by business groups. McFerran’s tenure has been characterized by contentious decisions and legal challenges that have drained NLRB resources and overturned established legal precedents, said Glenn Spencer, vice president of employment policy at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the country's largest business lobby. "The NLRB should be focused on promoting fairness, not tipping the scale in favor of a select few in organized labor at the expense of workers and businesses alike," he said. The Chamber and other opponents of McFerran's nomination have criticized several recent board rulings, including ones that created a path to unionize outside of the longstanding secret ballot election process and made it more difficult to classify workers as independent contractors who cannot join unions. Trump's appointees to the board are widely expected to reverse those decisions. The White House and an NLRB spokesperson did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Biden had also nominated Joshua Ditelberg, a labor lawyer who represents companies, for a Republican seat on the board. Senate Democrats withdrew a motion to hold a vote on Ditelberg after the vote on McFerran. Along with appointing new members, Trump is expected to fire NLRB General Counsel Jennifer Abruzzo, a Biden appointee who has aggressively pushed a number of legal arguments favored by unions since she was confirmed in 2021. The general counsel acts like a prosecutor, bringing cases alleging illegal labor practices before administrative judges and then the five-member board, whose decisions can be appealed in federal appeals courts. ATLANTA (AP) — As she checked into a recent flight to Mexico for vacation, Teja Smith chuckled at the idea of joining another Women’s March on Washington . As a Black woman, she just couldn’t see herself helping to replicate the largest act of resistance against then-President Donald Trump’s first term in January 2017. Even in an election this year where Trump questioned his opponent’s race , held rallies featuring racist insults and falsely claimed Black migrants in Ohio were eating residents’ pets , he didn't just win a second term. He became the first Republican in two decades to clinch the popular vote, although by a small margin. Javascript is required for you to be able to read premium content. Bollywood fans have been in shock since July 2024, when actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan did not accompany the Bachchans at Anant Ambani’s wedding. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan arrived separately with daughter Aaradhya Bachchan, while husband Abhishek Bachchan chose to accompany his parents Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, and sister Shweta Bachchan Nanda. Since then, rumours have been rife about the divorce of Aishwarya and Abhishek Bachchan. Adding fuel to the fire was the fact none of the Bachchans wished either Aishwarya or Aaradhya on their birthdays on social media. While Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was born on November 1, 1973, Aaradhya Bachchan was born on November 16, 2011. Amidst the strong rumours of a divorce between the power couple of Bollywood, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has shared a video on Instagram related to violence against women. Let’s take a look. What is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s Post About? Although the social media post by Aishwarya Rai Bachchan is about street violence against women and how women can and should stand up to it, the timing of the video seems uncanny to some. The former Miss World shared the post inspiring women on the occasion of the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan shared a video representing L'Oréal Paris, which speaks about the ‘Stand Up’ campaign of the beauty brand against street harassment and its training programme for women. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan writes, “On this International Day for the elimination of violence against women, join @lorealparis’s Stand Up against street harassment training program. We’re all worth it. @lorealparis . #WeStandUp”. Aishwarya goes on to deliver an inspiring message in the video, urging women to stand up against street violence and harassment. Aishwarya says, “Street harassment – how do you deal with it? Avoid eye contact? No. Look the problem directly in the eyes. Hold your head high. Feminine and feminist. My body, my worth. Never compromise your worth. Do not doubt yourself. Stand up for your worth. Don’t blame your dress or your lipstick. Street harassment is never your fault.” Aishwarya then puts her hand up to show her support for the Stand Up campaign. View this post on Instagram A post shared by AishwaryaRaiBachchan (@aishwaryaraibachchan_arb) Is Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Divorcing Abhishek Bachchan? The rumours of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan divorcing Abhishek Bachchan are, well, just rumours. Neither party has made an official announcement confirming or refuting the rumours, although there seems to be a clear rift. If anything, Abhishek has praised Aishwarya for being a good mother to their child Aaradhya. In an interview with The Hindu , Abhishek reportedly spoke about the career taking a backseat for two women in his family – mother Jaya Bachchan and wife Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. "My mother stopped acting when I was born because she wanted to spend time with the children. We never felt the void of Dad not being around. I think at the end of the day after work, you come home at night," said the I Want To Talk actor. The film’s director Shoojit Sircar further spoke about the choice made by Jaya Bachchan to sacrifice her work for her children Shweta Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan. "In my household,” said Abhishek Bachchan, “I'm lucky I get to go out and make movies but I know that Aishwarya is at home with Aaradhya and I thank her immensely for that but I don't think the kids look at it that way. They don't look at you as a third person, they look at you as the first person." Abhishek Bachchan Opens Up About Wife Aishwarya Rai for the First Time Amidst Divorce Rumours, Praises His Better Half for THIS Reason! Amitabh Bachchan Posts on Rumours About Abhishek and Aishwarya Superstar Amitabh Bachchan has not taken too kindly to the speculations regarding the separation or divorce of his son and daughter-in-law. I rarely say much about family, because that is my domain and its privacy is maintained by me...Speculations are speculations... they are speculated untruths, without verifications. Verifications are sought by the seekers to authenticate their business and commercials of the profession they be in... I shall not challenge their desire to be in the profession of their choice... and I shall appreciate their effort in serving society..." ‘Speculated Untruths Without Verification’: Amitabh Bachchan Finally Speaks Out on Divorce Rumours About Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in His Blog. When is International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women? November 25 has been marked as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women by the United Nations. The L’Oréal Paris programme 'Stand Up Against Street Harassment' began on Women's Day, March 8, 2020, in partnership with the Right To Be. The Stand Up Against Street Harassment programme works towards training women against street harassment using the 5Ds methodology by Right To Be. Daily Post Nigeria I’m not running FCT based on religion – Wike fires back at MURIC Home News Politics Metro Entertainment Sport News I’m not running FCT based on religion – Wike fires back at MURIC Published on December 24, 2024 By Seun Opejobi The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has denied running the FCT Authority based on religion. Wike made the denial while charging the Director of Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, Prof Ishaq Akintola, to limit himself to issues of the propagation of Islam and desist from promoting religious discord among Nigerians. He was reacting to a remark by Prof Akintola, on the suspension of the Federal Capital Development Authority, FCDA, Shehu Ahmad Hadi. Speaking through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Wike said: “The suspended FCTA Executive Secretary was not appointed as a Muslim and anyone trying to cover his suspension with the garment of religion will be doing a disservice to religious harmony in the country.” In a statement, Olayinka pointed out that “just as it is not obligatory for he who appoints to give reasons for appointing, it will also not be obligatory for he who suspends to tell the public reasons for suspending as long as the person suspended knows why he was suspended. “Most importantly, the position of the FCDA Executive Secretary is not a family chieftaincy title and the business of the office once occupied by Shehu Ahmad Hadi is running perfectly.” While calling the attention of Prof Akintola to Prophet Mohammad’s (PBUH) position on obedience to authorities, Olayinka said; “I doubt if Prof Akintola is aware that on the authority of Abu Huraira, it was narrated that Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said; ‘It is obligatory for you to listen to the ruler and obey him in adversity and prosperity, in pleasure and displeasure, and even when another person is given (rather undue) preference over you.’ “If Prof Akintola is aware of this and has imbibed it, he will simply counsel the suspended FCTA Executive Secretary to accept his fate as a Muslim, rather than this seeming sponsorship of media attacks against the Minister and fanning the embers of religious discord.” Related Topics: FCT MURIC Wike Don't Miss Police enhance security measures for festive season in Taraba You may like FCT: Four dead, 105 rescued from building collapse in 2024 FCTA reveals how payment for C of O would be used FCT EXCO approves contract renewal to secure Abuja rail Report reveals security operatives killed 32,000 civilians, extorted N3trn in S’East Insecurity: FCT Police deploy 3,180 ahead of Christmas celebration ‘Meet our demands in 14 days or face deadliest hospital shutdown’ — FCT doctors tell Wike Advertise About Us Contact Us Privacy-Policy Terms Copyright © Daily Post Media LtdArsenal investigating kit man after complaint over 'antisemitic' posts on social media - The MirrorNone

A.WASHINGTON (AP) — Matt Gaetz withdrew Thursday as President-elect Donald Trump’s pick for attorney general amid continued fallout over a federal sex trafficking investigation that cast doubt on his ability to be confirmed as the nation's chief federal law enforcement officer. The announcement caps a turbulent eight-day period in which Trump sought to capitalize on his decisive election win to force Senate Republicans to accept provocative selections like Gaetz, who had been investigated by the Justice Department before being tapped last week to lead it. The decision could heighten scrutiny on other controversial Trump nominees, including Pentagon pick Pete Hegseth , who faces sexual assault allegations that he denies. “While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition,” Gaetz, a Florida Republican who one day earlier met with senators in an effort to win their support, said in a statement. “There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1," he added. Hours later, Gaetz posted on social media that he looks “forward to continuing the fight to save our country,” adding, “Just maybe from a different post.” Trump, in a social media post, said: “I greatly appreciate the recent efforts of Matt Gaetz in seeking approval to be Attorney General. He was doing very well but, at the same time, did not want to be a distraction for the Administration, for which he has much respect. Matt has a wonderful future, and I look forward to watching all of the great things he will do!” He did not immediately announce a new selection. Last week, he named personal lawyers Todd Blanche, Emil Bove and D. John Sauer to senior roles in the department. Another possible contender, Matt Whitaker, was announced Wednesday as the U.S. ambassador to NATO. The withdrawal, just a week after the pick was announced, averts what was shaping up to be a pitched confirmation fight that would have tested how far Senate Republicans were willing to go to support Trump’s Cabinet picks. The selection of the fierce Trump ally over well-regarded veteran lawyers whose names had circulated as possible contenders stirred concern for the Justice Department's independence at a time when Trump has openly threatened to seek retribution against political adversaries. It underscored the premium Trump places on personal loyalty and reflected the president-elect's desire to have a disruptor lead a Justice Department that for years investigated and ultimately indicted him. In the Senate, deeply skeptical lawmakers sought more information about Justice Department and congressional investigations into sex trafficking allegations involving underage girls, which Gaetz has denied. Meanwhile, Justice Department lawyers were taken aback by the pick of a partisan lawmaker with limited legal experience who has echoed Trump's claims of a weaponized criminal justice system. As Gaetz sought to lock down Senate support, concern over the sex trafficking allegations showed no signs of abating. In recent days, an attorney for two women said his clients told House Ethics Committee investigators that Gaetz paid them for sex on multiple occasions beginning in 2017, when Gaetz was a Florida congressman. One of the women testified she saw Gaetz having sex with a 17-year-old at a party in Florida in 2017, according to the attorney, Joel Leppard. Leppard has said that his client testified she didn’t think Gaetz knew the girl was underage, stopped their relationship when he found out and did not resume it until after she turned 18. The age of consent in Florida is 18. "They’re grateful for the opportunity to move forward with their lives,” Leppard said Thursday of his clients. “They’re hoping that this brings final closure for all the parties involved.” Gaetz has vehemently denied any wrongdoing. The Justice Department’s investigation ended last year with no charges against him. Gaetz’s political future is uncertain. He had abruptly resigned his congressional seat upon being selected as attorney general, a move seen as a way to shut down the ethics investigation into sexual misconduct allegations. He did win reelection in November for the new Congress, which convenes Jan. 3, 2025, but he said in his resignation letter last week to House Speaker Mike Johnson that he did not intend to take the oath of office. He transmitted a similar letter to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as the state launched a special election process to fill the vacancy. Republicans on the House Ethics Committee declined this week to release the panel's findings, over objections from Democrats in a split vote. But the committee did agree to finish its work and is scheduled to meet again Dec. 5 to discuss the matter. As word of Gaetz's decision spread across the Capitol, Republican senators seemed divided. Oklahoma Sen. Markwayne Mullin, who served with Gaetz in the House, called it a “positive move." Maine Sen. Susan Collins said Gaetz “put country first and I am pleased with his decision.” Others said they had hoped Gaetz could have overhauled the department. Florida Sen. Rick Scott, a close ally of Trump, said he was “disappointed. I like Matt and I think he would have changed the way DOJ is run.” Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul said he hoped that Trump will pick someone “equally as tenacious and equally as committed to rooting out and eliminating bias and politicization at the DOJ.” Gaetz is not the only Trump pick facing congressional scrutiny over past allegations. A detailed investigative police report made public Wednesday shows that a woman told police that she was sexually assaulted in 2017 by Hegseth, the former Fox News host now tapped to lead the Pentagon, after he took her phone, blocked the door to a California hotel room and refused to let her leave. “The matter was fully investigated and I was completely cleared,” Hegseth told reporters Thursday at the Capitol, where he was meeting with senators to build support for his nomination.
