These diplomatic wins have not gone unnoticed by the rest of the world. For years, the narrative of "anti-Americanism" has dominated international relations, with many countries viewing the US as an imperialistic power bent on asserting its dominance across the globe. However, the recent successes in the Middle East have challenged this narrative, opening up new possibilities for cooperation and dialogue between the US and its global counterparts.
The performance, which took place in a spacious outdoor venue, was meant to showcase the innovative use of drones in creating intricate light patterns and aerial formations. Cai Guo-Qiang, known for his boundary-pushing artistic endeavors, had meticulously planned the event to mesmerize and awe the audience with a harmonious blend of artistry and technology.
It’s not often that the passing of a medium sized company on an industrial estate on a damp and soggy former airfield in southern England is worthy of a Hackaday mention, but is one of those moments that causes a second look. Their advanced engine technology may have taken decades to reach the point of sustainable testing, but it held the promise of one day delivering true spaceplanes able to take off from a runway and fly to the edge of the atmosphere before continuing to orbit. It seems their demise is due to a failure to secure more funding. more than once in the past, of their hybrid engines and the development of the advanced cooling system required to deliver air to a jet engine working at extreme speeds. The rights to this tech will no doubt survive the company, and given that its origins lie in a previously canceled British Aerospace project it’s not impossible that it might return. The dream of a short flight from London to Sydney may be on hold for now then. Nothing wrong with stroking your chin to the likes of , but sometimes you need to throw a few shapes to something patently ridiculous yet undeniably great. This is where Mötley Crüe’s fifth and, by some considerable distance, best record comes in. Reissued yet again to celebrate its quick-think-of-something 35th anniversary, this is where the reprobates who made seem abstemious and resembled what might arrive if you ordered off Temu got it utterly, and perhaps unexpectedly, right. The push for artificial intelligence in defense weapons is getting a boost from OpenAI’s new partnership with Anduril Industries. The defense technology company announced a strategic partnership with the ChatGPT maker on Wednesday to improve the ability of its counter-unmanned aircraft systems (CUAS) “to detect, assess and respond to potentially lethal aerial threats in real-time.” Both companies will look into how OpenAI’s leading-edge AI models, such as GPT-4o and OpenAI o1, can be used “to rapidly synthesize time-sensitive data, reduce the burden on human operators, and improve situational awareness.” Through the partnership, the defense company said OpenAI’s models will be trained on Anduril’s anti-drone systems’ threats and operations data. “OpenAI builds AI to benefit as many people as possible, and supports U.S.-led efforts to ensure the technology upholds democratic values,” OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman said in a statement. “Our partnership with Anduril will help ensure OpenAI technology protects U.S. military personnel, and will help the national security community understand and responsibly use this technology to keep our citizens safe and free.” Until January, OpenAI’s usage policies said it did not allow usage of its models for “[a]ctivity that has high risk of physical harm” such as “military and warfare.” The updated usage policies do not mention military or warfare, but still say users should not use its “service to harm yourself or others,” including by developing or using weapons. In November, FedScoop reported that OpenAI and the Air Force Research Laboratory were partnering to provide limited ChatGPT Enterprise for its research and development work. Topline: Why it matters: L.A. may be divided over issues of politics and how best to help the unhoused, but there is one thing we agree on — we love eating at the outdoor restaurants that cropped up in the wake of the pandemic. But there are rules and procedures, and getting all those places permitted so they can go from pop-up to permanent hasn't been easy. Why now: The deadline for permitting these pop-ups has been extended again and again to give restaurants the time to go through the approval process. That process has still proven time consuming, costly and complicated for some restaurants and many feared they might not make it by Dec. 31, 2024, deadline. This week, Bass extended that deadline through December 2025 to give businesses even more time to get through the fraught process. What the mayor said: “Thousands of businesses have been assisted this year building on our momentum to change City Hall into an advocate for businesses — not a barrier," Bass said in a statement . "That’s why we’re extending the Al Fresco Outdoor Dining Program deadline — because we must support businesses and help them thrive."
