Española police dropped a criminal charge against a school board member in recent weeks, saying the agency hadn't established probable cause for the allegation. Española school board member Ruben Archuleta said the petty misdemeanor he faced — accusing him of making a false report of a crime — was " political " shortly after it was filed. Española police Detective Dwayne Epling dismissed the case with prejudice in a recent court filing, meaning it cannot be refiled. Epling wrote "there is insufficient evidence to prosecute" Archuleta. Epling filed the charge in late September, alleging Archuleta lied when he told police another man had threatened him after a school board meeting in June. "We’re glad that Ruben is able to move on from this charge, and continue serving the school board and the people of Española," Archuleta's attorney, Ramón Soto, said in an interview Monday. "We're happy that Officer Epling did the right thing and dismissed this charge." Archuleta, 51, serves as vice president of the board for Española Public Schools and as a member of the Northern New Mexico College Board of Regents. After a school board meeting in early June, Archuleta told police a man identified as Lucas Montoya had followed him out of the school building and into the parking lot and said, "You can run, but you can't hide," and, "I'm going to get you." Epling initially filed an assault charge against Montoya but then dismissed that charge and filed a false report count against Archuleta. The detective wrote in a statement of probable cause Montoya's wife had shown Epling and Española police Chief Mizel Garcia surveillance footage from the June 6 school board meeting. "In viewing the surveillance video from the school board meeting, I, along with Chief Garcia, determined that at NO time was there any type of assault that took place from Lucas Montoya toward Ruben Archuleta or his wife,” Epling wrote. Archuleta, however, provided video footage showing a man he said was Montoya had followed him to the parking lot after the meeting. In a response to the charge, Soto wrote Archuleta reported "conduct that did actually happen and what he knew to be true," that he was a public official and had been intimidated by Montoya. "Officer Epling, in fact does not contradict Mr. Archuleta's testimony," Soto wrote. "Rather he states that it is his opinion that the video shown to him by a biased party, the Montoyas, did not demonstrate an assault." "Officer Epling's failure to know the laws he is supposed to enforce is not Mr. Archuleta's criminal conduct," the attorney added. Neither Chief Garcia nor Epling returned calls Monday seeking comment on the case.THE Met Office has confirmed that Brits will wake up to a 'green Christmas' and exceptionally warm weather. For those celebrating around the country, festive cheer will have to be enough, as there is set to be no snow or frost to be expected on December 25. Forecasters said the "exceptionally mild" temperatures seen on Christmas Eve will likely continue until closer to the new year. Met Office meteorologist Tom Morgan said this year will be a "green Christmas" as no snow or frost is expected anywhere in the country. "So great news if you do have travel plans over the next few days, no weather warnings are expected, no disruptive weather - but, as I say, not great news if you want a festive feel and certainly no snow or frost on the way. He added: "Christmas Eve has been very mild - we haven't broken any records, but we did see a high temperature today of 14.8C in Aberdeen, which is exceptionally mild for Christmas Eve. read more on weather "It's going to stay very similar through the Christmas period, so Christmas Day will dawn cloudy and very mild once again." Those living in Scotland will have to hold on to their Santa hats as The Met Office confirms "it's going to be quite windy with gales in the far north and some rain." Sadly, the absence of snow on Christmas Day will not be compensated by much sunshine as skies across the country are expected to remain overcast, with a few exceptions. Mr Morgan said: "Most places will have a dry and cloudy day. Most read in The Sun "A few places will see a few glimmers of sunshine, but you'll be fairly lucky to see much brightness on Christmas Day." "Glimmers of brightness" will be seen in a few more places on Boxing Day, Mr Morgan added. " Boxing Day will be very similar - it's another cloudy and mild day, with a few glimmers of brightness, particularly in north east England and the Midlands. "Some places in northern Scotland like the Shetland Isles should see some sunshine." The Met Office said the weather is expected to turn towards January 30, with colder and rainier weather to settle across the UK. Mr Morgan said: "Not a lot changes through the rest of this week and indeed this weekend, but as we move towards the New Year, we could see a change to cooler conditions and wetter conditions more widely. "There could be some heavy rain at times and there is an increasing chance of some snow - but it's too early to say where that snow is going to fall." This was possibly not the news Brits were hoping for with some taking to social media to express their disappointment. One user wrote: "Fed up with a mild and wet Christmas now." Another added: "What bad Christmas weather." A third complained: "Rubbish as usual." READ MORE SUN STORIES Despite the UK not getting any snow, there will be some spread out over the rest of Europe , especially in higher parts of Croatia , Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Some are even hoping to see snow fall in Italy 's Colosseum. The weather forecast according to the Met Office Wednesday 25 December: On Christmas Day it'll be largely cloudy with some rain and drizzle at times, especially over the hills though some brighter breaks in the east. There could be mild temperatures with strong winds in the north. Thursday 26 December - Saturday 28 December: It's looking to be overcast after Christmas with some rain in north Scotland on Boxing Day. Otherwise largely dry for most with a few sunny breaks at times. For the time of year, it's regarded as rather mild.

Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and Worli MLA Aaditya Thackeray has written to chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, requesting him to hold an all-party meeting regarding the proliferation of illegal banners and posters, especially political ones, in Mumbai. “This peurile race for posters must be set aside and political parties must take a decision not to have illegal posters, banners and hoardings. As a result, cities will be cleaner and political workers will save some expenses,” Thackeray stated in the letter. The Shiv Sena (UBT) will firmly back any action on the issue and can work with the BJP despite being opponents, the Worli MLA said. When political parties make a resolve to serve people in the new year, they must set aside differences and provide relief to citizens by removing political posters, banners and hoardings. “In the last two years, there has been a lot of political confusion and every city has thousands of political posters erected legally and illegally,” Thackeray stated in the letter. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been selectively removing posters of opposition parties while posters of ruling parties can be seen all around, he alleged. The BMC had removed over 7,000 illegal hoardings and posters when the code of conduct was enforced before the assembly polls. Another 2,000 illegal hoardings and posters were removed after the Mahayuti government was sworn in and posters congratulating winners from the BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP appeared across the city. Uddhav to meet office-bearers In anticipation of local body polls, the Shiv Sena (UBT) is holding area-wise meetings of office bearers in Mumbai and preparing for party chief Uddhav Thackeray’s meetings with respective vibhag pramukhs, up-vibhag pramukhs and shakha pramukhs in January 2025. Shiv Sena (UBT) has been controlling BMC for over 25 years, barring the past two years after the expiry of terms of previous corporators. Elections to the BMC are likely to be held in 2025 when all litigations are disposed.AP News Summary at 4:37 p.m. EST
