After years of waiting, smart home manufacturer Eve Systems has finally given its Android customers what they really wanted: an app. More than two years in the making, the Eve app for Android promises to unlock smart features that were previously available only to iOS users, . But before you get too excited about controlling your Eve devices with Android, there’s a big caveat to the news. For now, the new Eve for Android app works only with a single device: the , a smart radiator valve that’s only available in Europe. Oh, and one more thing: The Android version of the Eve app only works with Google Home for now. Eve CEO Jerome Gackel told The Verge that the company hopes to address those issues in “future versions,” but wanted to release the Thermo-only version of the app in time for the winter weather months. Android users have already been able to control Eve’s smart home devices via the Google Home app thanks to Matter, the smart home-unifying standard. But that meant Android users were limited to only those smart home controls that are exposed in the Matter protocol. The Eve app offers features that go above and beyond what’s possible (for now, at least) with Matter, including the ability to create on-device automations that don’t depend on the cloud, The Verge notes. Eve makes some of our very good smart home devices, including the contact sensor, (a smart weather station), the smart plug, and the water-leak detector. For years, Eve devices were exclusive to Apple HomeKit, leaving Android smart home users out in the cold. That began to change with the arrival of Matter in 2023, with Eve releasing . months before its first Matter devices arrived, way back in September 2022. The new Android app is built around , which arrived back in May—hence, it doesn’t integrate with Alexa or Samsung SmartThings, or at least not yet. Malema was speaking during the EFF Limpopo’s provincial assembly in Westernburg near Polokwane. Party delegates from various regions across the country will elect new leadership during the national conference. Formed in 2013, the EFF is facing what many call the most turbulent period since its inception. The last couple of months have seen party heavyweights such as Floyd Shivambu and Dali Mpofu leave the party for the Jacob Zuma-led MK Party. Recently, prominent party member and MP Mbuyiseni Ndlozi has also been said to be facing an uncertain future in the party. He has allegedly been barred from contesting leadership positions in the upcoming conference. Malema says members must refrain from engaging in behaviour that sow divisions in the party. “If you keep quiet when your name is used to divide and undermine the integrity of the organisation, your name shall be disqualified from contesting for any position in the organisation. While people do wrong things in your name you must be able to stand up and say not in my name,” says Malema. Malema also urged candidates to remain loyal to the party even if they are not elected during the NPA. “Loyalty to the organisation means that members will remain active members even when they are removed from their positions of responsibility; loyalty means members of the organisation will not join in the opposition and opponent forces who unfairly criticises the organisation and its leadership,” he says. Malema has further discouraged the use of social media platforms to lobby for votes and discredit fellow red berets. Further in his address, Malema indicated that the party may disband its Student Command to form a youth wing. Meanwhile, Limpopo EFF leader Lawrence Mapoulo says the provincial structure has several proposals that they will present to the executive leadership for consideration. According to Mapoulo, they want the EFF national leadership to address some serious issues that are affecting the party. “Our main focus currently, especially on the amendments of the constitution, and also the question of redesign of our structures. We have several proposals that we will be presenting to the delegates for their observations and rectification so that when we go to the NPA as a province, we can be able to make proper submissions which will be able to build the organisation,” he says. Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter plans to turn pro and prefers to continue a dual role, playing wide receiver and cornerback in the NFL. Hunter could be the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft and is the favorite for the Heisman Trophy. Speculation about his future quieted as he gained notoriety by the week this season. Field Level Media projects Hunter as a top-three pick in the draft, and he confirmed Thursday this will be his last season at the college level. "That's definitely for sure," Hunter said on a conference call with reporters. Hunter is consistently playing between 100 and 125 snaps per game for Colorado. He has three interceptions on defense with 74 receptions, 911 yards and nine touchdowns playing wideout for quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Also a projected early first-round pick, Sanders committed to play in the East-West Shrine Game in Dallas. The son of Colorado head coach and Hall of Fame cornerback Deion Sanders, Shedeur Sanders said Thursday he would cast a Heisman vote for Hunter. "If it's between me and him, I would want him to get it," Sanders said. "He does a lot of amazing things and things that haven't been done before. I'm not a selfish guy. I know what he's capable of, so I would rather him win." Hunter said he would invite his QB to New York if he's not named a Heisman finalist before they go about the business of finishing the season, possibly in the 12-team College Football Playoff.
