Selangor government reported a 43% employment rate at the Karnival Jelajah Jobcare Selangor. State human resources and poverty eradication committee chairman V.Papparaidu said the salary range for those securing employment through the programme was between RM1,700 and RM6,000. “A total of 3,647 people pre-registered for the job carnival, but only 1,859 attended the event held in seven districts this year,” he said. “Of the attendees, 1,526 applicants were invited for a second interview.” Papparaidu advised jobseekers to grab any opportunity while waiting for better offers. Many jobseekers, he said, were fixated on securing specific work they were either experienced in or qualified for. “Jobseekers should look at the opportunities available as an avenue to learn new skills which will pave the way for more openings later,” he said. Papparaidu was responding to questions by Dr Mohd Zamri Mohd Zainuldin (PN-Sungai Burong) on the state’s efforts in increasing job opportunities during the Selangor State Assembly sitting at Bangunan Dewan Negeri Selangor in Shah Alam. In a supplementary question, Mohd Zamri asked if the state had made an effort to ensure the courses offered at higher education institutions, especially state-run Universiti Selangor, included placements at the respective industries. Papparaidu replied that jobseekers were very selective. “They need to be open to accepting opportunities that are available and remain relevant in the job market,” he said. In reply to a supplementary question by Rajiv Rishyakaran (PH-Bukit Gasing) on jobs available for the elderly who were seeking employment, Papparaidu said they too were selective. Employers participating in the job carnival, he said, offered many opportunities for fresh graduates. There were opportunities for older adults too as some employers wanted to hire experienced people, added Papparaidu. “However, the jobs offered may not match their experience, qualifications or salary expectations.” In reply to supplementary questions by Mariam Abdul Rashid (PH-Meru) regarding job opportunities for people with disabilities, Papparaidu said there were such openings too. He said the job carnival was a state government initiative, since 2021, with the Social Security Organisation (Socso) aimed at providing access to more job opportunities at specific locations. “The programme is carried out in stages across nine districts every year. “It involves the participation of 25 to 30 employers in each district, offering 35,000 job opportunities across various sectors and industries, with salaries ranging from RM1,700 to RM12,000.”

This thing the Right says is happening isn't happening. 2. Okay, it's happening, but not that much. 3. Okay, it's happening and happening a lot and you're a bigot for noticing. 4. Why do you care so much about this issue? We have other problems to deal with! Over the last couple of weeks, Rep. Nancy Mace as been on a mission to make sure the women's bathrooms on Capitol Hill remain single-sex spaces . Why? Because Representative-Elect Tim ('Sarah') McBride is the first trans member of Congress and he's got a history of going into women's bathrooms where he's not allowed: McBride told everyone it would be an issue when he took a selfie in a women’s bathroom in NC. pic.twitter.com/0j8a0wv6cw The Left chose to make this an issue. So the Left should stop trying to force women to accept men in their safe spaces. Problem solved. This is what they do. They do something completely absurd then get upset when you notice. 'Republicans pounce!' and all that. The senator on the left, no pun intended, doesn’t understand that it’s much more than where one person Pees. It’s where hundreds of thousands of men dress up like women because of a perversion and go into our spaces and harm us. This must stop and now. Remember when the Left said 'no means no'? Good times. Then why is a dude in a dress fighting so hard to pee with women if there is “a lot more to worry about”. Get back to work you lazy slobs. Exactly. Then get to worrying on those and stop wasting your time on this. Mike Johnson didn't worry about it. He just took action. You're the ones now doing all the worrying. Bingo. It's all on them. I'm always amazed by this messaging, which has remained unchanged across issues for decades: Step 1: It is absolutely an issue of existential importance to break to pieces and reform this centuries-old norm Step 2: Any attempt to reverse Step 1 is a dumb waste of time https://t.co/4W9UPlthur Wash, rinse, repeat. FRANKFURT: German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier on Friday ordered parliament dissolved and set new elections for February 23 in the wake of the collapse of Chancellor Olaf Scholz 's coalition, saying it was the only way to give the country a stable government capable of tackling its problems. ET Year-end Special Reads Two sectors that rose on India's business horizon in 2024 2025 outlook: Is it time for cautious optimism or rekindling animal spirits? 2024: Govt moves ahead with simultaneous polls plan; India holds largest democratic exercise Scholz lost a confidence vote on December 16 and leads a minority government after his unpopular and notoriously rancorous three-party coalition collapsed on November 6 when he fired his finance minister in a dispute over how to revitalise Germany 's stagnant economy. Steinmeier said he made the decision because it was clear after consultation with party leaders that there was no agreement among Germany's political parties on a majority for a new government in the current parliament. “It is precisely in difficult times like these that stability requires a government capable of taking action and a reliable majority in parliament,” he said as he made the announcement in Berlin . He had 21 days to make that decision. Once parliament is dissolved, the election must be held within 60 days. Leaders of several major parties agreed earlier on the election date of February 23, seven months earlier than originally planned. Steinmeier warned about outside interference in the poll, saying it is “a danger to democracy, whether it is covert, as was evidently the case recently in the Romanian elections, or open and blatant, as is currently being practiced particularly intensively on platform X.” A top Romanian court annulled the first round of the country's presidential election, days after allegations emerged that Russia ran a coordinated online campaign to promote the far-right outsider who won the first round. The campaign is already well underway. Polls show Scholz's party trailing the conservative opposition Union bloc led by Friedrich Merz. Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck of the environmentalist Greens, the remaining partner in Scholz's government, is also bidding for the top job — though his party is further back. If recent polls hold up, the likely next government would be led by Merz as chancellor in coalition with at least one other party. Key issues include immigration, how to get the sluggish economy going, and how best to aid Ukraine in its struggle against Russia. The populist, anti-immigration Alternative for Germany, or AfD, which is polling strongly, has nominated Alice Weidel as its candidate for chancellor but has no chance of taking the job because other parties refuse to work with it. Germany's electoral system traditionally produces coalitions, and polls show no party anywhere near an absolute majority on its own. The election is expected to be followed by weeks of negotiations to form a new government. It's only the fourth time that the Bundestag has been dissolved ahead of schedule under Germany's post-World War II constitution. It happened under Chancellor Willy Brandt in 1972, Helmut Kohl in 1982 and Gerhard Schroeder in 2005. Schroeder used the confidence vote to engineer an early election narrowly won by centre-right challenger Angela Merkel. (You can now subscribe to our Economic Times WhatsApp channel )None
Why Novartis AG (NVS) Is One of the Most Profitable Pharmaceutical Stocks Right Now?It was a memorable moment for head coach Kevin O’Connell last weekend in the locker room at Lumen Field in Seattle. After the Vikings earned a 27-24 win over the Seahawks, O’Connell went through his usual routine of handing out game balls to his players. ADVERTISEMENT He recognized kicker Will Reichard and punter Ryan Wright for their prowess on special teams. He recognized safety Theo Jackson, edge rusher Dallas Turner and edge rusher Andrew Van Ginkel for the impact they made on defense. He recognized receiver Justin Jefferson and quarterback Sam Darnold for making everything go on offense. Just before the Vikings started packing up, right tackle Brian O’Neill took the floor, flipping a game ball to O’Connell to recognize him for becoming the only head coach in franchise history to win at least 13 games more than once. The locker room erupted and appropriately mobbed their leader in celebration. As he reflected Friday on that particular exchange, O’Connell couldn’t help but smile. “Nobody I respect more than Brian O’Neill,” O’Connell said. “To get that from him in that moment was really special.” It’s clear how much respect O’Connell has earned since taking over the Vikings. Ask any of his players about him and they will go out of their way to make a pitch for him winning NFL Coach of the Year. As the current betting favorite in Las Vegas, O’Connell could very well be on his way to winning that annual accolade. Not that any of his players are surprised. They also aren’t surprised that O’Connell has already made franchise history. It’s a testament to the culture he has worked so hard to build over the past few seasons. ADVERTISEMENT “That’s a credit to who he is as a person,” tight end T.J. Hockenson said. “We’re very fortunate to be able to play under him.” As for O’Connell getting the game ball, Darnold joked that it was long overdue. “It was awesome,” Darnold said. “Just the way that KO approaches every single week, the way that he gets us ready, the way that he keeps everything very relaxed on game day, it helps us go out there and play loose and free.” There’s a chance linebacker Ivan Pace Jr. (hamstring) could make his return when the Vikings host the Green Bay Packers on Sunday afternoon. He is being listed as questionable as he works through the final stages of the recovery process. He would need to be activated off injured reserve in order to play, which means the Vikings would have to make a corresponding roster move. ______________________________________________________ This story was written by one of our partner news agencies. Alex Ovechkin has a broken left fibula and is expected to be out four to six weeks, an injury that pauses the Washington Capitals superstar captain’s pursuit of Wayne Gretzky’s NHL career goals record. The Capitals updated Ovechkin’s status Thursday after he was evaluated by team doctors upon returning from a three-game trip. The 39-year-old broke the leg in a shin-on-shin collision Monday night with Utah’s Jack McBain, and some of his closest teammates knew it was not good news even before Ovechkin was listed as week to week and placed on injured reserve. “Everyone’s bummed out,” said winger Tom Wilson, who has played with Ovechkin since 2013. “We were sitting there saying: ‘This is weird. Like, it’s unbelievable that he’s actually hurt.’ It’s one of those things where like, he’s going to miss games? I’ve been around a long time, and it’s new to me.” Ovechkin in his first 19 seasons missed 59 games — and just 35 because of injury. Durability even while throwing his body around with his physical style is a big reason he is on track to pass Gretzky’s mark of 894 goals that once looked unapproachable. “He doesn’t go out there and just coast around,” Wilson said. “He’s played 20 years every shift running over guys and skating. He’s a power forward, the best goal-scorer ever maybe, and he’s a power forward that plays the game really hard.” Ovechkin surged to the top of the league with 15 goals in his first 18 games this season. He was on pace to break the record and score No. 895 sometime in February. “You know when goal-scorers start scoring, it’s dangerous,” said defenceman John Carlson, who has been teammates with Ovechkin since 2009-10. “There was a bit of that in the downs that everyone was feeling about it too, of course. We see him coming to the rink every day, we know what’s at stake. You never want anyone to get injured, but there’s a lot to it and certainly he was playing his best hockey in years.”SAFE GROUP - Half-Year Financial Report as of June 30, 2024NEWBURY: When ‘tangs’ get ‘tongueled’

Donte DiVincenzo grabbed a defensive rebound under the hoop off a Max Christie air ball, took a couple of hard dribbles to the side of the floor and heaved the ball forward into the frontcourt, dropping his pass over Christie’s out-stretched arms and into the lap of Julius Randle. The result was an easy flush for Randle that extended Minnesota’s lead to 12 in the second quarter of the Wolves’ win over the Lakers on Monday night at the Target Center. ADVERTISEMENT As Randle was putting away the score, Wolves head coach Chris Finch looked back and pointed at DiVincenzo, his way of saying, “Thank you.” Minnesota scored 20 fast-break points Monday, marking just the fourth time this season it’s hit such a total. Nine of those points came off DiVincenzo dimes. “He did a really good job of igniting our break,” Finch said. “We’ve been emphasizing trying to kick ahead more, throw the pass wide, change the angle of the floor, all that. He did a really good job of getting off of it, he and Nickeil (Alexander-Walker) connected on a couple. His decision-making was really good tonight, getting off of it quick and finding the open guy and moving it.” DiVincenzo noted there’s a distinct trust factor in basketball, and it’s prevalent in several areas within the game. If you want your teammates to consistently do something, they need to believe you’ll hold up your end of the bargain. If the Wolves want Rudy Gobert to block a shot, they need to be checking the man he is leaving on the defensive glass. If you want your teammates to run the floor hard in transition, you had better be willing to kick the ball ahead. “That’s what we did tonight, everybody,” DiVincenzo said. “And when we do that, it deflates the other team.” Minnesota has infrequently been difficult to play against this season. A piece of that equation is the Wolves often leave the easy money on the table. Fast-break points sit atop that list. According to CleaningTheGlass.com, only 13.1% of Minnesota’s offensive possessions are played in transition. That’s dead last in the NBA, even after Monday’s performance. Transition was a weak point of last year’s team, as well, but the additions of Randle and DiVincenzo were supposed to infuse some pace. But old habits die hard. The Wolves have rarely looked for opportunities to get out and run. They often don’t seem interested in the idea. It requires effort and intention. So, it’s a difficult switch to flip after it spent much of last year in the “off” position. ADVERTISEMENT “Just knowing you’ve got to run the floor at all times,” Wolves wing Jaden McDaniels said. “Even when you’re tired, or if the game is not going your way, just to get easy points and run the floor for your teammates.” Randle agreed that sometimes he’ll dribble up the floor and no one will be running alongside him, but added there are things he should do differently, as well. “I might get the rebound and I’m probing instead of just pushing and throwing the ball ahead and looking to flatten the defense out that way,” he said. “Or you’re probing instead of punching the gaps, or whatever it is, and you’re letting the defense catch up, so it’s just little things like that.” Minnesota’s best transition groups figure to be those that don’t include Gobert. But those lineups have been hindered by an inability to grab defensive rebounds. That has to be priority No. 1 in any instance; but once that’s secured, there needs to be more urgency to go. As Monday showed, transition offense can be a major feather in the cap of a team that sometimes struggles to score with consistency. For instance, in the first quarter, the Wolves scored just 22 points, but six came in transition. The positive sign for Minnesota is that when the issue was emphasized, players like DiVincenzo made a point to answer the call. “I think playing fast, making quick decisions, letting us use our athleticism and our quick decisions (helps),” DiVincenzo said. “I think when you slow down sometimes, guys kind of get out of rhythm. Playing fast, getting the early transition opportunities, gets everybody going, and then we can play both types of games.” ADVERTISEMENT ______________________________________________________ This story was written by one of our partner news agencies. Week 13 is already off to a big start for fantasy football's flex positions. Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers got all-caps BUSY on Friday (10 receptions for 140 yards and a touchdown), but he's just one of several playmakers posting big numbers across the first four contests of the NFL's full 16-game slate. Chicago Bears receiver D.J. Moore had eight grabs for 97 yards and a score. Dallas Cowboys running back Rico Dowdle had 123 scrimmage yards and a touchdown. For Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs, the output was 117 scrimmage yards and a score. Plenty of playmakers are...well, making plays, and if you haven't had much exposure to that production yet, you'll need your premier players at the flex positions to come through. We're here to help position you for success with rankings and point-per-reception (PPR) projections at the three spots. Top 10 1. Alvin Kamara, NO (vs. LAR): 21.6 fantasy points 2. Saquon Barkley, PHI (at BAL): 20.8 3. Joe Mixon, HOU (at JAX): 19.8 4. Bijan Robinson, ATL (vs. LAC): 19.0 5. Kyren Williams, LAR (at NO): 18.3 6. Christian McCaffrey, SF (at BUF): 18.1 7. Breece Hall, NYJ (vs. SEA): 17.6 8. Chuba Hubbard, CAR (vs. TB): 17.4 9. Jonathan Taylor, IND (at NE): 16.9 10. Derrick Henry, BAL (vs. PHI): 16.6 Sleeper: Bucky Irving, TB (at CAR) Irving has been zooming toward the finish line of his rookie campaign, and his role has been accordingly increased. It wasn't until his sixth career game that he tallied 16-plus touches. He has since hit that mark in four of his last six outings. Last week, he turned a career-high 18 touches (12 carries and six receptions) into 152 scrimmage yards and a score. He had a good matchup in that game (New York Giants), but he draws an even better one this week, as the Panthers have allowed the most fantasy points to running backs this season, per Yahoo. Top 10 1. Ja'Marr Chase, CIN (vs. PIT): 20.1 2. Nico Collins, HOU (at JAX): 18.8 3. Puka Nacua, LAR (at NO): 18.6 4. A.J. Brown, PHI (at BAL): 17.4 5. Justin Jefferson, MIN (vs. ARI): 17.2 6. Cooper Kupp, LAR (at NO): 16.6 7. George Pickens, PIT (at CIN): 16.3 8. Tee Higgins, CIN (vs. PIT): 16.0 9. Mike Evans, TB (at CAR): 15.2 10. Garrett Wilson, NYJ (vs. SEA): 14.7 Sleeper: Ladd McConkey, LAC (at ATL) Targets have come and early often for McConkey, but as the Chargers' passing game has picked up, so has the rookie's receiving yards. He topped out at 67 receiving yards through his first six contests. Over his last five, he has cleared 80 yards on three different occasions and twice posted triple-digit yardage. His stock has a great chance to keep climbing in a favorable matchup with the Falcons. Atlanta has allowed the fourth-most fantasy points to the positions. Top 10 1. George Kittle, SF (at BUF): 14.8 2. Trey McBridge, ARI (at MIN): 13.6 3. Cade Otton, TB (at CAR): 12.5 4. T.J. Hockenson, MIN (vs. ARI): 12.3 5. Evan Engram, JAX (vs. HOU): 11.7 6. Taysom Hill, NO (vs. LAR): 10.9 7. David Njoku, CLE (at DEN): 10.7 8. Hunter Henry, NE (vs. IND): 10.5 9. Dallas Goedert, PHI (at BAL): 10.4 10. Zach Ertz, WAS (vs. TEN): 10.4 Sleeper: Dalton Schultz, HOU (at JAX) It has largely been a snoozer of a fantasy season for Schultz, who's still awaiting his first touchdown catch and has only twice tallied more than 50 receiving yards (never eclipsing 66). Still, the Texans have given him opportunities to do more, as they've tasked him with five-plus targets in seven different games. That volume probably should've mattered more than it has, but this might be the week when it finally does. Jacksonville's defense is vulnerable against most everything, and tight ends are a part of that. The Jaguars have allowed the sixth-most fantasy points to the position.President-elect Donald Trump’s lawyers urge judge to toss his hush money conviction
