Another American-based big-leaguer is kicking in cash to incoming President-elect Donald Trump 's January inaugural fund. Ford Motor Company , headquartered in Dearborn, Mich., will donate $1 million as well as a fleet of vehicles for the festivities, a spokesperson confirmed to USA TODAY Monday. Earlier this month, Ford CEO Jim Farley told reporters his leadership team is carefully watching for policy changes in Washington but isn’t panicked about Trump returns to the presidency, The Detroit Free Press, part of the USA TODAY Network reported. It was not immediately known what vehicles Ford plans to donate to the Jan. 20 inauguration at the United States Capitol. But during a press event at Michigan Central Station in Detroit, Farley said Ford expects changes in tariffs, emissions regulations and tax benefits for people who buy electric vehicles . “After 120 years, we’re pretty experienced with policy change,” Farley said, adding nearly 14% of Ford’s November sales in the U.S. were hybrid or electric vehicles. “I think Ford is very well-positioned." President-elect Donald Trump on Saturday nominated Charles Kushner, the father of his son-in-law Jared Kushner, as the US ambassador to France, in the latest of several controversial picks. Kushner "is a tremendous business leader, philanthropist, & dealmaker, who will be a strong advocate representing our Country & its interests," Trump said on his Truth Social website, adding that Jared "worked closely with me in the White House." The choice is in keeping with Trump's pattern, so far, of selecting people, often wealthy, who are close to his family or of proven loyalty. Kushner is a multimillionaire real estate executive and former attorney; his son was a senior adviser during Trump's first term. Trump did not mention, however, that the elder Kushner once served jail time -- a two-year sentence, most of it served in a federal prison. Kushner, who is now 70, pleaded guilty in 2004 to 18 counts of tax evasion, witness tampering and making illegal campaign contributions. The case, which was prosecuted by then US attorney Chris Christie, included sordid details, to which Kushner admitted: that he had hired a prostitute to seduce his brother-in-law, a man cooperating in a campaign finance inquiry, and then videotaped the encounter and sent it to the man's wife, Kushner's sister, to dissuade her from testifying against him. Christie, who worked on Trump's first presidential transition team and then opposed him in this year's Republican primary contests, later said Kushner had committed a "loathsome" and "disgusting crime." An advocacy group, Green Growth Africa, has empowered 50 Nigerian youths with vocational skills and essential start up tools in Ondo state. South-West Coordinator of the group, Sunday Akinrele, said the initiative was aimed at promoting self-reliance and long-term sustainability of the beneficiaries, reducing their dependency on government aid and external support. This was contained in a statement signed by the Project Planning Committee Chairman, Temple Bright, who doubles as the Chairman, Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) RLC Nigeria. According to the statement made available to our correspondent on Sunday, the youths skill acquisition held at Ago-Ireti Camp, and was funded by One Million Leaders Africa, designed to support the children of elderly individuals living with disabilities, equipping them with vocational skills and essential start-up tools. The tech CEO has been seeking to change his company's perception on the right following a rocky relationship with Trump. Trump was kicked off Facebook following the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol. The company restored his account in early 2023. Afifeh Saeidavi says she is paralysed by nightmares that she and her family will be persecuted by the Iranian government if forced to return. The mother-of-two is a social worker and collects blood as a phlebotomist in Sydney. Despite living in Australia for more than a decade, Labor's new migration laws have amplified her fears of being deported. Saedavi, her husband and their then-five-year-old son — who is now 17 — arrived in Australia by boat in 2012. After being detained on Christmas Island, they were transferred to the mainland the following year. They live in a constant state of uncertainty, forced to renew their bridging visas every six months. Now, Labor's new suite of migration laws has exacerbated their fear of being separated from Saidavi's youngest son, who was born in Australia. 'Families are going to be ripped apart': Labor's 'brutal' migration law trio, explained "He always says, 'It does not make sense to me. I am counted as an Australian, but you are not accepted here'," she told SBS News. "We are living in stress again," she said, explaining how scared her 11-year-old son is by the prospect of losing his family. She said her family, who were part of Iran's Arab minority, was persecuted by the government. "We ran away from pain, from lack of safety and insecure life to go through this. It's such an inhumane and unfair procedure." The 42-year-old fears Labor's new migration laws have the power to "destroy" lives and is urging the government to reverse the bills passed on Thursday. With the support of the Coalition, Labor passed three amendments to the Migration Act this week, which included strengthening the government's ability to remove non-citizens and pay third countries to take refugees. The amendments cast the future of tens of thousands of people living in Australia into doubt.
