Canadian News Publishers Sue OpenAI Over AI Content UseFRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Looking for hard-to-find bottles of Kentucky bourbon to toast the holidays or add to a collection? Get your bids ready as the Bluegrass State launches its first online auction of confiscated alcohol. Whiskeys up for sale include two bottles of Old Rip Van Winkle, a Blanton’s Single Barrel Gold in box with Japanese markings and a bottle of Four Roses Small Batch Barrel Strength 2011. The sale is the result of a new Kentucky law, which allows alcohol confiscated from closed criminal investigations by the state's alcoholic beverage control agency to be auctioned. Online bidding opens Wednesday and closes at midnight on Dec. 11. Proceeds will support programs promoting responsible alcohol use by adults and awareness programs for youths. “This is a really good auction,” Eric Gregory, president of the Kentucky Distillers’ Association, said by phone Tuesday. “There are some hard-to-find and rare bottles on there.” No estimate has been given on how much the auction might raise. “We look forward to seeing the response to this auction and have started planning additional auctions for 2025,” said Allyson Taylor, commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The auction features 32 bottles of alcohol and includes a “stock the bar” bundle with bottles of wine, vodka, rum and whiskey, the agency said. But the stars are the hard-to-find and rare bourbons up for sale. “It’s not every day you go to a liquor store and find a bottle of Blanton’s Gold," Gregory said. “You never go to a liquor store and find a bottle of Four Roses 2011.” The lineup includes bottles of E.H. Taylor bourbon, Blanton’s Single Barrel, Eagle Rare 10 yr., Weller Antique 107, Willett Family Estate Single Barrel Rye, Michter’s, an Old Forester gift set and more. A link to the online auction is available at ABC.ky.gov . Auction items cannot be shipped, so winning bidders must pick up items in Frankfort, the state said. The auctions will become a “can't miss opportunity” for bourbon connoisseurs, Gregory said. Until this year's change in the law, Kentucky regulators were required to destroy confiscated alcohol once a case was closed, the agency said. “We don't like to see good bourbon poured down the drain,” Gregory said. Kentucky distillers produce 95% of the global bourbon supply, the Kentucky distillers’ group says. After Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders' college career came to an end in Saturday night's Valero Alamo Bowl, he received a kind gesture from his heir apparent. Rudy Giuliani in a courtroom outburst accuses judge in assets case of being unfair, drawing a rebukeKendrick Lamar dropped surprise album GNX on Friday, where he addresses being chosen for the Super Bowl Halftime show in New Orleans over hometown rapper Lil Wayne . And it appears Lil Wayne has responded. On the song “Wacced Out Murals,” Lamar’s lyrics include: “Used to bump Tha Carter III , I held my Rollie chain proud/Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down.” Early in the morning on Saturday, Lil Wayne took to X, formerly Twitter, and appeared to respond , writing in part: “Man wtf I do?!” In September, shortly after Lamar was chosen to headline the Super Bowl LIX Halftime show, Lil Wayne expressed his disappointment, saying it “ hurt a whole lot ” that he wasn’t the pick for February’s big game (although he did not specifically mention the show by name, he had previously said he hoped to be asked) and that “it broke me.” Several others in his camp, including Nicki Minaj and Birdman , also felt Wayne should’ve been chosen. As with the last time he addressed the Super Bowl, Wayne did not refer to it or Lamar in his post early Saturday morning and Lamar’s lyrics don’t appear to diss Wayne so much as reflect on the situation. Moreover, Wayne seems to be putting the blame on himself on the missed opportunity, writing it’s “on me,” while warning folks to leave this alone rather than escalate it. “I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head. Let’s not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all,” he continued in his post. “No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love.” Lamar also mentions the Super Bowl directly in another line in the same verse from “Wacced Out Murals.” “Won the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulate me,” Lamar raps. Nas threw support his way again, taking to Instagram to write, “Always inspired by my brother KL. Keeping the essence of this shit alive and at the forefront. Salute King!” As for Snoop Dogg , Lamar mentions him during the same verse, in the context of Drake’s Lamar diss track, “ Taylor Made Freestyle .” That song features AI vocals from Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur (Drake later pulled the song from his social media after the threat of legal action from Shakur’s estate). “Snoop posted ‘Taylor Made,’ I prayed it was the edibles/I couldn’t believe it, it was only right for me to let it go,” Lamar raps. Snoop’s response to GNX included several fire emojis and an admission: “It was the edibles,” he posted on X. “west west king.”

He recorded 23 solo stops, 3,5 tackles for loss and one sack to go with an interception and a pass breakup. Anthony is the best offensive lineman on the SAC Championship team and helped the Bulldogs rank fourth in the SAC in rushing and fifth in scoring while starting every game. Wingate has now won the Jacobs Blocking Trophy in three of the past four years. Jordan is the Coach of the Year after just his first season at the helm. He took over for legendary leader Joe Reich and the Bulldogs didn’t miss a step. He guided the program to its fourth SAC title and the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Playoffs. His defensive unit ranked second in the nation in yards allowed per game and fifth in fewest points allowed per game. In the SAC Championship game, they held Carson-Newman to just 84 yards of total offense on 45 plays. While AI technology has opened up new possibilities for creativity and entertainment, it also carries the risk of distorting and misrepresenting the original intent of the content. In the case of "甄嬛举枪", the edited images and videos have sparked debates about the appropriateness of portraying historical figures in a modern, and sometimes violent, context.

The Senate and stakeholders in the nation’s education sector, on Thursday, endorsed the bill seeking to establish Federal Polytechnic, Onueke, Ezza South, Ebonyi State. The endorsement was made during a one day public hearing on the Federal Polytechnic (Vocational/ICT) Onueke (Establishment) Bill 2024 (SB 71) organised at the National Assembly Complex by the Senate Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND. The stakeholders that expressed support for the establishment of the institution are the Federal Ministry of Education, the National Universities Commission and the National Board for Technical Education, among others. They all commended the sponsor of the bill, Senator Kenneth Eze, for coming up with the initiative, saying that the bill if passed and assented to, would facilitate training of the young people and equipping them with technical education that would engender self-employment and rapid national development. Senator Eze, who represents Ebonyi Central Senatorial District on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), explained that the proposal when passed into law, has significant potential in advancing human capital development and providing an assured future for the youth in Nigeria, and Ebonyi Central in particular. He highlighted the socio-economic benefits of the initiative to the citizenry, saying: ” It is with great honour and a profound sense of responsibility that I stand before you today at this public hearing to advocate for a cause that holds huge potential to advance our human capital development index and an assured bright future for the Nigerian youths — the establishment of federal polytechnic (Vocational/ICT), Onueke in Ezza South Ebonyi state. “As we are gathered here, we are reminded of the pressing need for quality technical, Vocational and skill-based education training in our ever-evolving world. “The rapid advancement in technology constant demand for skilled labour and the widening gap of unemployment in the nation, highlight the importance and urgent need to establish institutions that can meet the challenges head-on, and help reduce the surging unemployment rate in the country, especially among our youths. “According to the National Bureau of Statistics NBS, the unemployment rate in Nigeria moved up in the first quarter of 2024 to 5.3% from 5.0% in the fourth quarter of 2023. At the global level according to The Spectator Index (a global youth unemployment index), Nigeria is standing second with a 53% youth unemployment rate to South Africa at number one with a 61% youth unemployment rate. These worrying statistics should be an issue of serious concern to the nation and all Nigerians. “Unemployment among our youths is a significant factor in the increase of crimes and social vices across the country, which poses a great threat to the socioeconomic development of the nation. “However, with Vocational and skill-based education training institutions like Federal Polytechnic (Vocational/ICT), Onueke, modelled to impact our youths with self-reliant and self-employable skills, our Nation is expected to take a leap out of this disturbing rate of unemployment and join the league of nations whose economies are driven by Technology and ICT. “In line with our national development priorities, UNESCO’s works on global strategy for Technical and Vocational Education Training (2016-2021) focus on the key areas which include; fostering youth employment and entrepreneur, promoting equality and gender equality, and facilitating the transition to green economy and sustainable societies. UNESCO pays premium attention to helping to enhance the relevance of Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) to equip all youths and adults with skills required for employment, decent work, entrepreneurship and lifelong skills. “It is worthy to note ladies and gentlemen that Federal Polytechnic (Vocational/ICT), Onueke is an institution of necessity conceived by the need to align our nation to UNESCO’s global efforts to equip our youths with relevant skills to explore the huge opportunities in the global skilled-labour market. This is crucial in job creation and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) “Mr. President, my Distinguished colleagues, ladies and gentlemen, Federal Polytechnic (Vocational/ICT), Onueke is not merely an academic institution; it is a beacon of hope that will provide endless opportunities for our youths. “This Polytechnic is a transformative platform that will equip our youths with the skills necessary to thrive in today’s competitive job market. “At this point, I want to draw our attention to some key points that underscore why the establishment of Federal Polytechnic (Vocational/ICT), Onueke is important not only to the youths and people of Ebonyi Central but our nation at large. “Firstly, the focus on vocational, ICT, and skill-based education training is imperative in a nation where unemployment rates are alarmingly high as we have in our nation. By providing students with hands-on experience and practical skills, we can empower them to become self-sufficient and contribute positively to our economy. “This institution will serve as a catalyst for job creation, innovation, and economic growth in Onueke and beyond. Secondly, education is not just about acquiring knowledge; it is about fostering an environment where creativity and critical thinking can flourish. The Federal Polytechnic Onueke will be designed to encourage collaboration between students, educators, and industry experts. “By forging strong partnerships with local businesses, industries and organizations, we can ensure that our curriculum remains relevant and aligns with the needs of the modern-day job market. “The demand for technical and vocational skills is higher than ever before. Yet, we are faced with a pressing challenge: how do we equip our future leaders, innovators, and skilled professionals with the tools they need to thrive? “The Federal Polytechnic (Vocational/ICT), Onueke presents us with an opportunity to create a hub of learning that focuses on vocational excellence, technical skills, and the information and communication technology that drives major economies of the world today. “This Bill is not just about establishing a new institution; it is about responding to the needs of our communities and our economy. By investing in vocational education, we are making a commitment to our youths—the commitment to provide them with pathways to success and dignified employment. “The choice of Onueke, Ezza South, the headquarters of Ebonyi Central Senatorial Zone in the establishment of this institution is due to its strategic location because it is central to all parts of Ebonyi State and it is densely populated. “We must ask ourselves: Are we ready to take this leap of faith? Are we prepared to invest in the future of our nation? As I stand here today, I am reminded of the words of Nelson Mandela, who said, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” This bill embodies that sentiment. “It is our collective responsibility to ensure that our young people have access to quality education that prepares them for the realities of the workforce. “I urge you the President of the 10th Senate, my Distinguished colleagues and all stakeholders, educators, industry leaders, and community members—to support this vital initiative. By supporting the Federal Polytechnic (Vocational/ICT) Onueke (Establishment) Bill 2024, we are not only investing in education but also empowering our young people to take charge of their destinies. Together, we can forge a path toward a brighter and more prosperous future for our youths.”(CNN) — Former President Jimmy Carter, a Georgia peanut farmer who vowed to restore morality and truth to politics after an era of White House scandal and who redefined post-presidential service, died Sunday at the age of 100. The Carter Center said the 39th president died in Plains, Georgia, surrounded by his family. The White House has been notified that Carter has died, per a Biden administration official. Preparations for the state funeral have begun, according to a law enforcement official. Carter had been in home hospice care since February 2023 after a series of short hospital stays. Carter, a Democrat, served a single term from 1977 to 1981, losing a reelection bid to Ronald Reagan. Despite his notable achievements as a peacemaker, Carter’s presidency is largely remembered as an unfulfilled four years shaken by blows to America’s economy and standing overseas. His most enduring legacy, though, might be as a globetrotting elder statesman and human rights pioneer during an indefatigable 43-year “retirement.” Carter became the oldest living former president when he surpassed the record held by the late George H.W. Bush in March 2019. Carter’s beloved wife, Rosalynn, died in November 2023. They had been inseparable during their 77-year marriage, and after she passed away, the former president said in a statement that “as long as Rosalynn was in the world, I always knew somebody loved and supported me.” The former president attended his wife’s memorial events, including a private burial and a televised tribute service in Atlanta, where he was seated in the front row in a reclined wheelchair. He did not deliver any remarks. Carter took office in 1977 with the earnest promise to lead a government as “good and honest and decent and compassionate and filled with love as are the American people” following what had started as an unlikely long-shot bid for the Democratic Party’s nomination. The Southerner with a flashing smile did enjoy significant successes, particularly abroad. He forged a rare, enduring Middle East peace deal between Israel and Egypt that stands to this day, formalized President Richard Nixon’s opening to communist China and put human rights at the center of US foreign policy. But Carter was ultimately felled by a 444-day hostage crisis in Iran, in which revolutionary students flouted the US superpower by holding dozens of Americans in Tehran. The feeling of US malaise triggered by the crisis was exacerbated by Carter’s domestic struggles, including a sluggish economy, inflation and an energy crisis. At times, Carter’s principled moral tone and determination to strip the presidency of ostentation, such as by selling the official yacht, Sequoia, seemed to verge on sanctimony. But out of office, Carter won admiration by living his values. Just a day after one of several falls he suffered in 2019, he was back out building homes for Habitat for Humanity, even with an ugly black eye and 14 stitches — and teaching Sunday school as he had done several hundreds of times . The devout Southern Baptist’s life’s work was only just beginning when he limped out of the White House, humiliated by Reagan’s 1980 Republican landslide, in which the incumbent won only six states and the District of Columbia. “As one of the youngest of former presidents, I expected to have many useful years ahead of me,” Carter wrote in his 1982 memoir, “Keeping Faith.” He proved as good as his word, going on to become a humanitarian icon, perhaps more popular outside the United States than he was at home. Over four decades, Carter, Rosalynn and his Atlanta-based organization monitored hot-spot elections, negotiated with despots, battled poverty and homelessness, fought disease and epidemics, and promoted public health in the developing world. In the process, Carter did nothing less than reinvent the concept of the post-presidency, blazing a philanthropic path since adopted by successors such as Bill Clinton and, in Africa, George W. Bush. His efforts on behalf of his Carter Center, founded to “wage peace, fight disease and build hope,” yielded a Nobel Peace Prize in 2002. Even into old age, Carter remained a polarizing political figure. He was an uneasy member of the ex-presidents’ club, sometimes frustrating successors like Clinton and criticizing the foreign policies of George W. Bush and Barack Obama, and of US allies such as Israel. In recent years, he came full circle as he warned of the corrosive impact on American politics of a scandal-plagued White House — just as he did when his critique of the Nixon era helped him beat the disgraced Republican ex-president’s unelected successor, Gerald Ford, in 1976. (After Carter left office, he and Ford became close friends.) In September 2019, Carter warned Americans against reelecting President Donald Trump . “I think it will be a disaster to have four more years of Trump,” he said. After losing reelection, his work at the Carter Center became a great consolation. The ex-president said in a moving news conference detailing a cancer diagnosis in August 2015 that being president had been the highlight of his political career, even if it ended prematurely — though he would not swap another four years in the White House for the joy he had taken after leaving office in working with the Carter Center. And he said he was at peace with his legacy after a rich, fulfilling life: “I think I have been as blessed as any human being in the world.” Carter also said at that August news conference that marrying Rosalynn was the “pinnacle” of his life. He is survived by four children — Jack, Chip, Jeff and Amy — 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, according to the Carter Center. In April 2021, President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden visited the Carters at their home in Plains, after the former presidential couple was unable to travel to Washington for the 46th president’s inauguration. LSU's 65-point margin of victory was its largest since the Tigers beat Grambling by 75 (112-37) on Nov. 20, 1999 and is the third biggest against a Division-I opponent in program history. The 110 points were the most by LSU since a 119-108 win over North Florida on Dec. 12, 2015. Carter scored 11 points — including three 3-pointers — in the first six minutes to make it 18-6 and LSU led by double figures the rest of the way. The Delta Devils went 0 for 6 from the field and committed five turnovers as LSU scored 17 consecutive points to take a 28-point lead with 7:44 left in the first half and led 55-13 at halftime. The Tigers allowed the seventh-fewest points in a half by an opponent in program history. Mississippi Valley State (2-11) is averaging 46.2 points and is winless with a scoring margin of minus-44.2 in 11 games against Division-I opponents this season. LSU (11-2) has won three games in a row since a 74-64 loss to SMU at the Compete 4 Cause Classic in Frisco, Texas, on Dec. 14.
