Democratic Party strategist James Carville lamented the political misfortune of President Biden in the weeks following President-elect Donald Trump’s victory . In a video update published on YouTube, the 80-year-old pundit weighed in on the heat Biden is currently enduring from his own party for pardoning his son, Hunter Biden . Though Carville did not hold the pardon against the president, he lamented how Biden’s actions in the past year have made him such an unpopular figure. “The most tragic figure in American politics in my lifetime is President Biden,” Carville proclaimed. The strategist waved off criticism from Biden’s own party that he pardoned his son on Sunday after saying throughout his presidency he never would. “Alright, so he said, ‘I’d never pardon the kid.’ Okay. I don’t believe any – When anybody says, ‘I never had sex with that person,’ or, ‘I’d never pardon my kid,’ I don’t pay any attention to it, ‘cause I think everybody lies about sex and everybody is going to do what they’re going to do with their own children,” he said. Multiple Democratic lawmakers and liberal media outlets condemned the pardon, arguing the younger Biden got off too easy from multiple felony convictions and warning that Trump would use it as an excuse for more abuses of power. Instead, Carville hammered Biden over running for re-election in the first place, saying that if he had just passed the torch early enough, the Democratic Party would have won the election and none of this negative attention would be on him. He would have left the White House on a “high note,” he said. Under intense pressure, Biden bowed out of the race in July and endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris , who went on to lose to Trump. “But the different scenario would be, if he would have – in September of 2023 or August – said that he wasn’t going to run ... we would have won this election. And it wouldn’t have been that close, because we’d have had so many freaking talented people that were running,” he lamented. Carville continued describing Biden’s glorious alternative future, stating, “And he would be sitting here right now, getting ready to leave on a high note. There would be naming commissions to figure out what we’re going to name after him. He would be the toast of Washington. It would be a Democratic inauguration coming up, and a new Democratic president could have sort of gotten away with commuting any sentence that Hunter Biden got.” He added that there would have been “minimal” pushback if the pardon happened in this scenario because Biden would be seen in a better light. “And all of this,” he continued, “is f—ing self-inflicted. It’s tragic, it’s sad, and of course, everything about him is – it will be six years before somebody comes back and talks about all of the stunning things – the manufacturing that he’s brought back, the stunning stuff he’s done.” “What’s so sad, it didn’t have to be this way. He brought it all on himself,” he said.India News | Dynasts Continue to Dominate Maharashtra Polity; Key Victories for Rane and Thackeray Families
Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant is expected to become the player to be sold for the biggest amount in the upcoming IPL mega auction and a mock auction conducted by Star Sports and JioCinema showed that many cricket experts also believe the same. Pant was bought for a huge fee of INR 33 crore by the Punjab Kings (PBKS), represented by Eoin Morgan. KL Rahul also was bought for a massive sum of 29.5 crore by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) represented by their former head coach Mike Hesson. Pant parted ways with Delhi Capitals (DC) ahead of the IPL mega auction, and has even clarified on social media that money wasn’t the factor behind his decision. On the other hand, KL Rahul decided to enter the auction instead of staying with the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and cited team atmosphere as the reason why he didn’t want to continue with the franchise. “I anticipated his price to soar between Rs 26 and Rs 29 crore, but his eventual price was a record-shattering Rs 33 crore—deservedly so. Rishabh is not just a top-order left-handed batsman but also one of the most explosive players in modern cricket. Coupled with his captaincy credentials and the potential to serve for years to come, he’s akin to securing a young MS Dhoni. This is a strategic long-term investment, focused on building a robust foundation for the future. In my view, players like Pant are simply invaluable,” Morgan said after acquiring Pant. “RCB would ideally prioritize Rishabh Pant to ensure continuity after Virat Kohli, especially for long-term stability. I personally bid up to ₹32.5 crore for Pant but wouldn’t have stretched as much for KL Rahul. At 32, Rahul brings experience and the ability to anchor the innings post-Virat’s era. As a local talent, he also fills the critical wicket-keeping slot left vacant by DK’s exit. While RCB would likely bid aggressively for him, the final price would hinge on the dynamics and unpredictability of the auction,” Hesson said after acquiring Rahul. Other big buys from the mock auction include – Shreyas Iyer – Kolkata Knight Riders (21 crore) Mitchell Starc – Mumbai Indians (18 crore) Arshdeep Singh – Punjab Kings (16.5 crore) Ishan Kishan – Delhi Capitals (15.5 crore) Yuzvendra Chahal – Sunrisers Hyderabad (15 crore)to clean energy. Leading data and analytics company GlobalData has identified several major challenges to scaling clean energy technologies, highlighting mineral depletion and resource monopolisation. The company's latest strategic intelligence report, Critical Minerals (2024), says the growing demand for renewable technologies such as solar photovoltaic cells and wind turbines, alongside energy transition solutions like hydrogen, energy storage and carbon capture, has triggered an unprecedented surge in demand for critical minerals. 'Near-term depletion' Martina Raveni, a strategic intelligence analyst at GlobalData, said this increasing demand is posing significant challenges to achieving international energy transition goals. "The near-term depletion of critical minerals raises concerns, especially as instability in the green technologies market causes price volatility," Ms Raveni said. "Lower-grade ores complicate extraction, making it less efficient, particularly in the copper industry." Regional concentration Ms Raveni said the issue is further impacted by the fact that many critical minerals are concentrated in specific regions. For example, much of the world's... Colin Hay

Amid potato shortage in the State after West Bengal restricted supply to Odisha, today Food Supply Minister Krishna Chandra Patra said that potato stock is sufficient in the State. Meanwhile potato supplies from Uttar Pradesh have started arriving in Odisha. The Minister reportedly said that there is ample potato stock in Odisha to meet the requirement of consumers. The state government will no longer depend on West Bengal for potato. However, if West Bengal sends potato at its own, the state government will keep them. The minister also said that the state government is also in touch with the Punjab government in this matter. It is to be noted that after West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Bannerji put restrictions on potato supply from WB to Odisha, scarcity of potato has started to be seen. Today, only one truck of potato reached Chhatra Bazar in Cuttack. The situation has pushed a price surge of this vegetable. The price of potatoes in Cuttack’s Chhatra Bazaar is between Rs 48 and Rs 50 per kg. A bag of potatoes, i.e. 48 kg, is between Rs 18,000 and Rs 2,000. Since the potato supply from West Bengal have been completely stopped, the price of potatoes in Cuttack Chhatra Bazaar has skyrocketed. More than 8 potato trucks come to Chhatra Bazaar every day normally. However, now Odisha Govt has made arrangement to meet the scarcity. The state government will not depend on West Bengal for more potatoes.Protect your gaming sessions this Black Friday weekend with a VPN
WASHINGTON — Austin Tice’s entire family visited Washington this week in a show of force to the outgoing Biden administration, asserting they have fresh, reliable information that he is alive and pressing top White House and State Department officials to leverage dramatic changes on the battlefield in Syria to secure a breakthrough in the case of the missing journalist. Tice’s parents, Debra and Marc Tice, have frequently visited the capital to advocate for their son, who went missing as a freelance journalist covering Syria’s civil war in 2012. But this visit was the first of its kind from the entire Tice family since he first disappeared over 12 years ago. Little progress has been made on Tice’s case over those years, spanning three presidents and a transformed Middle East. But a resurgence in Syria’s war over the past month after years of frozen frontlines has created new opportunities and perils for the American, a former U.S. Marine and Texas native. “Today is a day full of emotions. The news that we’re hearing from the Middle East – that kind of thing can unsettle a mom,” Debra Tice told reporters at a press conference at the National Press Club on Friday. “There are all kinds of ways this can go.” She told reporters that the family had a new source telling them that Austin Tice remains alive and healthy. The family is working to be able to share more information with the public, she said. “We have from a significant source that has already been vetted all over our government that Austin Tice is alive – Austin Tice is treated well,” Debra Tice said. Debra and Marc Tice both said the Biden administration is declining to make the new information public. U.S. officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment about the family’s statement. Syria erupted in civil war in 2011 following a brutal crackdown on democratic protesters by the Assad government. Tice traveled to the country to cover the conflict the following year for McClatchy, The Washington Post and other publications. U.S. officials believe he was detained at a Syrian government checkpoint southwest of Damascus on Aug. 14, 2012. A video emerged six weeks after his disappearance purporting to show him in captivity. With assistance from Russia and Iran, the Assad regime was able to push back an array of opposition forces that increasingly fractured throughout the war. The rise of Islamic State in the country also led to an international military offensive in northern Syria that culminated in 2017. Ever since, Assad’s hold on power has appeared stable. But a surprise offensive launched by a united front of rebel forces last month has put Assad’s army on the run for the first time in years. In a span of mere weeks, the Syrian army has retreated from Aleppo, Hama and Homs, cities where Assad spent years fighting to regain control. The offensive is being led by Tahrir al-Sham, a group designated as a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union. It is not immediately clear how the resurgence of military action in Syria might affect negotiations over Tice. But U.S. officials are watching the developments closely to monitor for any new opportunities to engage on his case, an official told McClatchy. Tice’s family met with State Department officials on Thursday and with National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan on Friday, a White House official confirmed in a statement. “President Biden and his team have worked around the clock, often in partnership with key allies, to negotiate for the release of Americans held hostage or unjustly detained abroad so that they can be reunited with their families, and the administration will continue to do so throughout the remainder of the term,” the official said. Speaking to the press on Friday, Austin Tice’s father, Marc, said that Sullivan told the family the administration had done everything it could think of to reach a breakthrough in his case. But his family believes the government has exerted more effort to secure the release of wrongfully detained Americans in Russia, Venezuela, Iran and Gaza than they have for their son. Similarly, at the State Department meeting, “there were complaints and finger pointing about who is preventing things from happening, and who’s responsible for doing what,” Marc Tice said. “We think this is a time of opportunity, actually, and there’s no time like now to start doing the right thing.” Last month, as Syrian regime lines were collapsing before the rebel advance, the White House said that Assad’s refusal to participate in a political process with the opposition, and his reliance on Russia and Iran, had “created the conditions now unfolding, including the collapse of Assad regime lines in northwest Syria.” “The United States, together with its partners and allies, urge de-escalation, protection of civilians and minority groups, and a serious and credible political process that can end this civil war once and for all with a political settlement,” Sean Savett, spokesperson for the National Security Council, said in a statement. “We will also continue to fully defend and protect U.S. personnel and U.S. military positions, which remain essential to ensuring that ISIS can never again resurge in Syria.” Debra Tice was skeptical of the policy, questioning why the administration would support the rebel advance on Assad forces. Biden officials have made clear they are not a part of the offensive. “I don’t really understand what’s happening in Syria,” she said. “I’m upset by the fact that terrorists are tearing up Aleppo, killing people in Aleppo. I don’t understand that. I don’t understand why our government isn’t running in saying we are not going to allow a terrorist entity to take over Syria.” “There are people feeling like it’s possible this could be Austin’s release. I certainly pray that that’s it,” she added.” Long-stalled talks In August, marking 12 years since Tice’s disappearance, President Joe Biden issued a statement that his administration had “repeatedly pressed the government of Syria to work with us so that we can, at last, bring Austin home.” “The freedom of the press is essential, and journalists like Austin play a critical role informing the public and holding those in power accountable,” Biden said. “We stand in solidarity with Austin, his family, and all Americans wrongfully detained and held hostage abroad. I will continue to do everything possible to advocate for and pursue his release and support his loved ones until he is safely returned home.” In 2022, Biden met with Tice’s parents at the White House and vowed to engage the Syrians directly over Tice. In a statement at that time, the president expressed “certainty” that Assad had held him in Syrian custody, without specifying when, where or in what condition. During the Obama administration, the CIA obtained Syrian government records indicating Tice had at one point been processed through the Syrian court system. Biden’s team had been hopeful the following year that quiet talks with Damascus could produce a breakthrough. But Hamas’ attack on Israel, and the war that followed in Gaza and Lebanon, disrupted the discussions. Officials in the first Trump administration also attempted to directly engage with the Syrians to secure Tice’s release, traveling to Damascus in an effort to do so. But Assad aides refused to acknowledge Tice’s case during that meeting, insisting the U.S. government renew its recognition of Assad as the leader of Syria – and a full withdrawal of U.S. troops in the country there to combat Islamic State – before even uttering his name, U.S. officials told McClatchy. In August, marking the anniversary, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that Tice had been held in “unknown conditions” and issued a plea to Syria to open an honest dialogue on his case. “For more than a quarter of his life, Austin has been separated from his family and kept in unknown conditions,” Blinken said. “We know the Syrian government has held Austin, and we have repeatedly offered to find a way to bring him home.” “This has gone on for far too long,” Blinken added. “We call on the Syrian government to work with the United States to end Austin’s captivity.” U.S. officials told McClatchy this week that the government’s knowledge of Tice’s condition and whereabouts remain unchanged. ©2024 McClatchy Washington Bureau. Far-right influencer Nick Fuentes charged with battery of Berwyn womanK’ómoks First Nation appoints justice of the peace Police often unwilling to enforce nation’s laws to control low-level offences like trespassing, nuisance and illegal dumping. Roxanne Egan-Elliott Dec 6, 2024 3:45 PM Share by Email Share on Facebook Share on X Share on LinkedIn Print Share via Text Message Marion Buller has been appointed justice of the peace for K’ómoks First Nation. VIA K’OMOKS FIRST NATION Listen to this article 00:03:14 The K’ómoks First Nation is appointing a justice of the peace to preside over hearings for offences violating its own laws in what the nation says is a first in Canada. The nation has its own laws to control low-level offences such as trespassing, nuisance, illegal dumping and other environmental concerns, but police are often unwilling to enforce the nation’s laws, rendering them ineffective. The nation has hired Marion Buller, a Mistawasis Nêhiyawak Cree Nation member who served 22 years as a judge and played a crucial role in establishing B.C.’s First Nation court, as its justice of the peace. Her role will be similar to that of a provincial court judge ajudicating less serious offences, but she’ll act within the context of the nation’s laws and its approach to justice, said Amy Jo Scherman, a lawyer with First Peoples Law representing the nation. When one of the nation’s laws is alleged to have been violated, it will be Buller’s role to preside over a hearing and render a decision on whether the law was contravened and what consequence is appropriate, Scherman said. Potential consequences are set out in the nation’s laws, and could include fines and restitution. While incarceration is possible as a punishment under the nation’s laws, it’s unlikely the nation would ever pursue that in a prosecution, Scherman said. The nation does not have the ability to create criminal laws for and adjudicate serious criminal matters, such as assault and murder, she said. The nation plans to hire an enforcement officer who can issue tickets and summon people to a hearing, but the role would not have the full scope of police powers and the intention is not to make arrests, Scherman said. Buller said she will be “an independent change-maker” for the nation’s goals of self-determination and community safety. Her appointment will advance decolonization and benefit the people of K’ómoks and many other First Nations across the country, said Chief Robert Louie. K’ómoks has 350 members, according to the Lands Advisory Board. The nation’s traditional territory stretched from Kelsey Bay in the north to Hornby and Denman Island in the south, including the watershed and estuary of the Puntledge River. The nation won a precedent-setting trespass case in 2018 when B.C.’s provincial court upheld the nation’s authority to enforce its own laws. The nation found itself unable to evict a renter on reserve lands whose lease had been terminated and, despite discussions with RCMP, officers wouldn’t intervene, Scherman said at a news conference. In other situations, the Residential Tenancy Branch, a provincial agency, could step in, but reserve land is federal jurisdiction, said John Burns, also with First Peoples Law. K’ómoks has trespass laws under its law code and the nation proceeded successfully with a private prosecution to remove the person by enforcing its law. “It was a big win and a big success at the time,” Scherman said, because there had never been a successful prosecution under a First Nation law in Canada. The United Kingdom is looking to fend off Tesla CEO Elon Musk after he showed his political mettle in the United States and Germany. Musk wielded a decisive hand in the U.S. 2024 election, throwing his fortune behind President-elect Donald Trump . He has since begun commenting more on international politics, voicing his support for the Alternative fur Deutschland in Germany and Reform U.K. in the U.K. The Labour government, fearful that Musk could have a decisive effect, is eyeing ways to neuter his influence. The U.K. government has floated the idea of taking further measures to prevent foreign figures from making outsize political donations, the Wall Street Journal reported . “We have no immediate plans to do, but we do have a manifesto commitment to look more broadly at our elections regime in the country, from things like votes at 16, which we are committed to, but also to make sure that our electoral system has got that integrity and is robust from many of the new issues that face undermining our democracy and our elections,” Commons leader Lucy Powell told Sky News. “But just to be clear, foreign donations to U.K.-based political parties is prohibited under current law, so that’s something that already exists,” she added. Powell later said the Labour government was looking to combat "many of the issues that are undermining our democracy at the moment — like mis- and disinformation, foreign state actions and so on." The alarm was raised by a meeting between Reform U.K. Party head Nigel Farage and Musk at Mar-a-Lago last week, during which they discussed political strategy. In a joint statement, Farage and the party's treasurer Nick Candy said they had “learnt a great deal about the Trump ground game” and would have “ongoing discussions” with Musk in other sectors. “We only have one more chance left to save the West, and we can do great things together. Our thanks also to President Trump for allowing us to use Mar-a-Lago for this historic meeting. The special relationship is alive and well,” it added, referring to the close relationship between the U.S. and U.K. Musk has gone after the left-wing Labour government with increasing ferocity in recent weeks, comparing it with the Soviet Union and Prime Minister Keir Starmer with Stalin, as well as deriding the U.K. as a "totalitarian police state." CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER Musk, a South African native, has largely been absent from his home country's politics, turning his attention internationally. Last week, he gave the AfD a major boost by declaring it the only viable path forward for Germany, incurring the wrath of the German government.
