FRISCO - The New York Giants are going through a lot of plans to get to the point where they will line up somebody to play quarterback against the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday. But their latest problem, which might spring up on Thanksgiving? Tommy DeVito says "my whole body is kind of sore,'' and coach Brian Daboll is now saying it's not "100-percent'' that the local folk-hero third-stringer will be able to go against Dallas. Last week, New York was awful against the visiting Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a 30-7 loss, moving the 2-9 Giants' losing streak to six. The time off didn’t help. The quarterback change didn't, either. DeVito - who took over when No. 1 QB Daniel Jones was cut - completed 21 of 31 attempts for 189 yards and no touchdowns. He was sacked four times behind a declining offensive line, and at no point did the Giants look like an imposing offense. So ... the DeVito Era might end before it begins? Not that the 4-7 Cowboys have much room to talk, but the New York quarterback change seems like lipstick on a pig. mattered. Head coach Brian Daboll is getting ripped in his own locker room - at least Dallas coach Mike McCarthy isn't suffering that indignity - and he's sticking with DeVito ... Unless he's too beat up to play, in which case the No. 2 guy Drew Lock - who has expressed confusion as to why he didn't take over for Jones - might play. DeVito, for the record, on Tuesday was listed as limited - as was Dallas QB Cooper Rush. Dallas #Cowboys / New York #Giants Practice Injury Report - News on Martin, Diggs, Ferguson pic.twitter.com/qE4azGVUoe Rush will be under center in place of the injured Dak Prescott, and he's coming off a success in last week's crazy win at Washington. In the end, both these teams may start looking to the 2025 NFL Draft ... as much as the Cowboys wish to deny that. But for now? Cooper Rush vs. Tommy DeVito isn't a highly-anticipated national TV game ... and now the nation might not even get DeVito at all. The text of the deal has not been published and Reuters has not seen a draft. Israel's security cabinet has approved the deal and it will be put to the whole cabinet for review. Lebanon and Hezbollah have agreed to the proposal and the Lebanese cabinet will meet on Wednesday to formalise its approval. The deal, negotiated by US mediator Amos Hochstein, is five pages long and includes 13 sections, according to a senior Lebanese political source with direct knowledge of the deal. Here is a summary of its key provisions. HALT TO HOSTILITIES The halt to hostilities is set to begin 12 hours after an anticipated announcement on Tuesday night, with both sides expected to cease fire by Wednesday morning, two senior Lebanese political sources with direct knowledge of the deal said. One of them said Israel was expected to "stop carrying out any military operations against Lebanese territory, including against civilian and military targets, and Lebanese state institutions, through land, sea and air". All armed groups in Lebanon - meaning Hezbollah and its allies - would halt operations against Israel, the source said. ISRAELI TROOPS WITHDRAW Two Israeli officials said the Israeli military would withdraw from southern Lebanon within 60 days. Lebanon had earlier pushed for Israeli troops to withdraw as quickly as possible within the truce period, Lebanese officials told Reuters. They now expect Israeli troops to withdraw within the first month, the senior Lebanese political source said. HEZBOLLAH PULLS NORTH, LEBANESE ARMY DEPLOYS Hezbollah fighters will leave their positions in southern Lebanon to move north of the Litani River, which runs about 30km north of the border with Israel. Their withdrawal will not be public, the senior Lebanese political source said. He said the group's military facilities "will be dismantled" but it was not immediately clear whether the group would take them apart itself, or whether the fighters would take their weapons with them as they withdrew. The Lebanese army would deploy troops to south of the Litani to have around 5,000 soldiers there, including at 33 posts along the border with Israel, a Lebanese security source told Reuters. "The deployment is the first challenge - then how to deal with the locals that want to return home", given the risks of unexploded ordnance, the source said. More than 1.2 million people have been displaced by Israeli strikes in Lebanon, many of them from south Lebanon. Hezbollah sees the return of the displaced to their homes as a priority, Hezbollah lawmaker Hassan Fadlallah told Reuters. Tens of thousands displaced from northern Israel are also expected to return home. MONITORING MECHANISM One of the sticking points in the final days leading to the ceasefire's conclusion was how it would be monitored, Lebanon's deputy speaker of parliament Elias Bou Saab told Reuters. A pre-existing tripartite mechanism between the United Nations peacekeeping force in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL), the Lebanese army and the Israeli army would be expanded to include the US and France, with the US chairing the group, Bou Saab said. Israel would be expected to flag possible breaches to the monitoring mechanism, and France and the US together would determine whether a violation had taken place, an Israeli official and a Western diplomat told Reuters. UNILATERAL ISRAELI STRIKES Israeli officials have insisted that the Israeli army would continue to strike Hezbollah if it identified threats to its security, including transfers of weapons and military equipment to the group. An Israeli official told Reuters that US envoy Amos Hochstein, who negotiated the agreement, had given assurances directly to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel could carry out such strikes on Lebanon. Netanyahu said in a televised address after the security cabinet met that Israel would strike Hezbollah if it violated the deal. The official said Israel would use drones to monitor movements on the ground in Lebanon. Lebanese officials say that provision is not in the deal that it agreed, and that it would oppose any violations of its sovereignty.F.P. Report ISLAMABAD: A high-level Belarusian delegation arrived in Pakistan on Sunday as the two countries prepare to deepen bilateral economic collaboration, with the president of the Eastern European state, Aleksandr Lukashenko, scheduled to reach Islamabad tomorrow. The 68-member delegation, which includes key Belarusian ministers, was received at Islamabad airport by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and officials from Pakistan’s foreign ministry. Pakistan and Belarus established diplomatic ties in 1994 and have since worked to strengthen their relationship, with recent efforts focusing on industrial and technological collaboration, trade and investment. Belarus exports machinery, fertilizers and synthetic yarn to Pakistan, while Pakistan provides textiles, leather goods and surgical instruments to Belarus. “On behalf of the government and people of Pakistan, we warmly welcome the Belarusian delegation,” Naqvi said in a statement circulated by the interior ministry, as he interacted with the foreign dignitaries. “This visit is of great importance for strengthening bilateral relations and fostering collaboration in various sectors, including industry and trade,” he added. According to Pakistan’s foreign office, the delegation includes 43 business leaders and 25 ministerial officials. It is led by Foreign Minister Maxim Ryzhenkov, who is accompanied by colleagues holding portfolios in energy, industry, justice, communications, natural resources and emergency situations. The chairman of Belarus’s Military Industry Committee is also part of the group. The visit of the delegation marks another step in enhancing bilateral ties, with both countries aiming to explore new avenues of cooperation. The foreign office said in a statement on Thursday “President Lukashenko will hold extensive talks with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and discuss areas of bilateral cooperation and engagement.” “Several agreements and MoUs [memorandums of understanding] will also be signed during the visit,” it added. Naqvi also emphasized the significance of the visit, hoping it would further solidify the relationship between our two countries. Courtesy: arabnews

A state's biggest environmental commitment faces a potential funding shortfall as analysis shows protecting key koala populations could cost more than $1.3 billion. Login or signup to continue reading The estimates, based on advice from the under-siege forestry industry, comes as the sector proposes two smaller alternatives for the planned Great Koala National Park in NSW. The park aims to link dozens of high-value koala habitat hubs near Coffs Harbour, protecting up to one in nine koalas living in NSW, Queensland and the ACT as well as 100 other native species. A report to be considered by state cabinet in the next fortnight lays out the cost of the baseline proposal to unite a string of national parks and state forests into a sprawling 176,000-hectare estate. Under conservationists' goal for a park twice the size of Canberra, establishment costs would reach an estimated $1.36 billion within five years. That includes $450 million in support to 2200 forestry workers, based on Victoria's cost of ending native timber harvesting. Ending wood supply contracts and establishing new plantations would add another $709 million, according to the analysis commissioned by the forestry industry. Only $80 million in state funds have been set aside for the park's establishment. The industry says a park one-fifth of the size could focus on areas with the highest populations of koalas and greater gliders while taking less than 10 per cent of the northeast wood supply. "The cost of the current assessment area comes with a jaw-dropping price tag for taxpayers," Australian Forest Products Association NSW chief executive James Jooste told AAP. "This is an enormous cost on taxpayers, and it puts the hardwood timber industry on the chopping block." The industry's preferred option comes with a 37,000-hectare footprint at an estimated establishment cost of $273 million and 440 jobs. An "acceptable" 58,000ha option would cost about $410 million and 660 jobs. Each proposal substantially reduces the amount of coastal forest under protection, with areas around Woolgoolga and Nambucca Heads left out. Environmentalists have attacked the analysis as disingenuous and grossly inflated. A Blueprint Institute assessment recently estimated the whole northeast NSW logging industry, including outside the national park footprint, would cost $215 million. "There is no science and there is certainly no credible economics in the logging industry pitch," Greens MP Sue Higginson said. "The real costs of the national park must be laid out including the actual losses the industry makes and the costs of the environmental harm of logging, including the carbon emissions." Logging has continued in state forests inside the proposed park area, although not since September 2023 in 106 koala hubs that mark out areas of high-value habitat. It comes as the state government faces mounting pressure over the impact of its logging business on nature. At least 5000 koalas were killed in the 2020 Black Summer bushfires and a subsequent parliamentary inquiry found they would be extinct by 2050 without urgent government intervention to stop habitat loss. An estimated 12,111 koalas live in the land earmarked for the national park. Official estimates have the combined koala population in NSW, Queensland and the ACT at somewhere between 95,000 and 238,000. The NSW government said the proposal from the industry advisory panel and two other panels would be considered before a final decision on the park's footprint. "We have always been clear that we need a comprehensive assessment process which takes into account environmental, economic, social, ecological and cultural issues," Environment Minister Penny Sharpe said. "The Great Koala National Park is the government's biggest environmental commitment, it will be delivered." Australian Associated Press DAILY Today's top stories curated by our news team. Best Bets for NCAA Basketball Picks Against the Spread for Thursday, December 12Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert missed Wednesday’s practice due to a sprained left ankle and a thigh contusion that he suffered in the team’s game against AFC West rival, Kansas City Chiefs. The ankle injury came early in the first quarter and the contusion happened just before the half. Despite the injury, Herbert remained in the game, completing the series following a brief medical timeout. The training staff provided immediate treatment, retaping his ankle to alleviate the discomfort. Justin Herbert Returns To Chargers Practice After that practice, Herbert told the media that he felt pain in his ankle and thigh while on the sidelines. He explained he felt the pain when “rotating and kind of stepping through the throw.” This resulted in a limited offensive attack for the remainder of the game. But on Thursday, Herbert was back to practice. At the time of the writing of this article, it is unclear if Herbert is a full participant, but his return is good news for the team nonetheless as they prepare to face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this Sunday. Herbert also relayed to the media that the pain he is feeling from this ankle injury is not as intense as he felt earlier in the season when he was dealing with an injury to his right ankle. Some speculated that Herbert’s slow start to the year could be, at least, in part due to that initial ankle injury. While Herbert’s arm is the biggest asset connected to the health of his legs, the Chargers have also come to rely heavily on his rushing ability. His 224 yards are the third most among all Chargers runners and he has also picked up 20 percent of the team’s rushing first downs, which has kept this team afloat while they have struggled to run the ball recently. While this is good news for the Chargers, their offense will need to find answers for other injuries on their side of the ball. A part of their rushing struggles is due to top running back JK Dobbins missing time on the injured reserve. Missing their top two receivers, Ladd McConkey and Will Dissly, was very apparent against the Chiefs. McConkey has been limited in practice, while Dissly has not participated. The world stands at the dawn of a “third nuclear age” in which Britain is threatened by multiple dilemmas, the head of the armed forces has warned. But alongside his stark warning of the threats facing Britain and its allies, Admiral Sir Tony Radakin said there would be only a “remote chance” Russia would directly attack or invade the UK if the two countries were at war. The Chief of the Defence Staff laid out the landscape of British defence in a wide-ranging speech, after a minister warned the Army would be wiped out in as little as six months if forced to fight a war on the scale of the Ukraine conflict. The admiral cast doubt on the possibility as he gave a speech at the Royal United Services Institute (Rusi) defence think tank in London. He told the audience Britain needed to be “clear-eyed in our assessment” of the threats it faces, adding: “That includes recognising that there is only a remote chance of a significant direct attack or invasion by Russia on the United Kingdom, and that’s the same for the whole of Nato.” Moscow “knows the response will be overwhelming”, he added, but warned the nuclear deterrent needed to be “kept strong and strengthened”. Sir Tony added: “We are at the dawn of a third nuclear age, which is altogether more complex. It is defined by multiple and concurrent dilemmas, proliferating nuclear and disruptive technologies and the almost total absence of the security architectures that went before.” He listed the “wild threats of tactical nuclear use” by Russia, China building up its weapon stocks, Iran’s failure to co-operate with a nuclear deal, and North Korea’s “erratic behaviour” among the threats faced by the West. But Sir Tony said the UK’s nuclear arsenal is “the one part of our inventory of which Russia is most aware and has more impact on (President Vladimir) Putin than anything else”. Successive British governments had invested “substantial sums of money” in renewing nuclear submarines and warheads because of this, he added. The admiral described the deployment of thousands of North Korean soldiers on Ukraine’s border alongside Russian forces as the year’s “most extraordinary development”. He also signalled further deployments were possible, speaking of “tens of thousands more to follow as part of a new security pact with Russia”. Defence minister Alistair Carns earlier said a rate of casualties similar to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine would lead to the army being “expended” within six to 12 months. He said it illustrated the need to “generate depth and mass rapidly in the event of a crisis”. In comments reported by Sky News, Mr Carns, a former Royal Marines colonel, said Russia was suffering losses of around 1,500 soldiers killed or injured a day. “In a war of scale – not a limited intervention, but one similar to Ukraine – our Army for example, on the current casualty rates, would be expended – as part of a broader multinational coalition – in six months to a year,” Mr Carns said in a speech at Rusi. He added: “That doesn’t mean we need a bigger Army, but it does mean you need to generate depth and mass rapidly in the event of a crisis.” Official figures show the Army had 109,245 personnel on October 1, including 25,814 volunteer reservists. Mr Carns, the minister for veterans and people, said the UK needed to “catch up with Nato allies” to place greater emphasis on the reserves. The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said Defence Secretary John Healey had previously spoken about “the state of the armed forces that were inherited from the previous government”. The spokesman said: “It’s why the Budget invested billions of pounds into defence, it’s why we’re undertaking a strategic defence review to ensure that we have the capabilities and the investment needed to defend this country.”BUENOS AIRES (AP) — Thiago Messi, the eldest son of the Argentina star, has made his debut in the “Newell’s Cup” tournament in the countryside city of Rosario. The 12-year-old Messi played with the No. 10 jersey of an Inter Miami youth team, which lost 1-0 on Monday to host Newell’s Old Boys in the traditional under-13 competition. The team also played Tuesday. Lionel Messi took his first steps as a footballer in the Argentinian club in Rosario, 300 kilometers (186 miles) northwest of capital Buenos Aires. Thiago's mother, Antonela Roccuzzo, and several members of his family, including grandparents Jorge Messi and Celia Cuccittini, were in the stands to watch him play. Lionel Messi did not attend. Thiago, who was substituted in the second half, played with his friend Benjamín Suárez, son of Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez, Messi's teammate and close friend at Barcelona and now at Inter Miami. Messi and Suárez are in Rosario after Inter Miami’s early elimination in the MLS playoffs. On Sunday, they watched a friendly game of Inter Miami's U13 team against Unión at the same sports complex. The youth tournament in Argentina brings together eight teams from North and South America. AP soccer:
The role of a private jet flight attendant or corporate flight attendant or VIP flight attendant, as sometimes known, is very different to that of a commercial flight attendant . The schedule differs widely as well as the salary and the duties. It is a very unique role and each aircraft and operator and indeed, client can be completely different. Let's find out more about the role and the salary expectations in more detail. Cabin crew salary For a commercial cabin crew member, the salary is made up of basic pay, plus flying pay (usually chocks to chocks) plus an overnight allowance for any layovers. In addition, they receive commission payments for any onboard sales and if they speak a 'language of destination', they receive a small payment for that too. The schedule is published four to six weeks in advance, so you can plan life around trips and see where you might have available days or standby duties. The cabin crew salary ranges from $1,200 a month up to $3,000 a month depending on the airline and region (this is an average for the UK, Europe and the Middle East). Seniority is important too and a senior cabin crew member or purser or cabin service manager will earn more, but will also have a lot more responsibility. Private jet crew salary Private jet flight attendants generally earn more than commercial cabin crew as it is seen as very prestigious to work on a private jet and entails a lot more work. In general, the salary is between the $2,500 and $5,000 a month mark, but it can be as low as $1,500 and as high as $7,000. Experienced flight attendants usually earn more as they are more accustomed to the role and its uniqueness. Per diems are paid in addition to each night away from the base. This can be a fixed rate of anywhere between $75 - $150 per night, Some operators prefer to base the per diem on the cost of living in the country visited, so, for example, you would receive less in Munich than you would in Tokyo. Per diems are paid in the following month's salary and it is up to the flight attendant to keep a record of them. Interested in finding out more about private aviation? Find more articles like this here. Freelance private jet flight attendants can earn anywhere between $500 and $800 per day, depending on experience and negotiating with the client. Freelance work can be lucrative for some as it often to cover last-minute flights and if you accrue enough work and are in demand, you can be very successful. As a rule, salaries for a private jet flight attendant are variable every month. Rotations and schedules Rotations are usually offered depending on the region and nature of the work. Two weeks on duty and two weeks off is often seen, as is,18 days on, 12 days off. Africa based crew often work one month on and one month off, whereas Saudi Arabia based crew tend to work two months on, one month off. There is no schedule for private jet flight attendants as work is very much on demand and last minute. As private jet crew, you can be called 24 hours before a flight, right down to 30 minutes before. You can be called any time of day or night for a flight to anywhere. If an aircraft doesn't fly much, the crew will often be on permanent standby with no rotation, which can be problematic. Benefits and downsides Four or five-star accommodation and transportation are arranged whilst on trips. Some operators pay for healthcare and life insurance, some do not. Whilst in training (if provided) accommodation and per diems may be paid, but sometimes not. In some cases, with small operators, you provide your own uniform, shoes, bags, and suitcases and pay for dry cleaning of the uniform. It is very much down to the operator and some may provide a uniform, an allowance for crew shoes and one bag and cover dry cleaning. Difficulties and differences Most crew on private jets have prior experience, but this is not always the case. In Europe, they prefer the inflight service providers route, which means they are not safety trained and have experience in five-star restaurants and hotels instead. In the Middle East and Asia, appearance and age are the most important factors. Female private jet flight attendants still dominate the role, whereas sometimes male flight attendants find work in more 'difficult' regions such as Africa. Role outline Duties of a private jet flight attendant include: Ordering catering and stock for aircraft from caterers, restaurants, hotels and suppliers Washing of dishes and cleaning the aircraft, preparing laundry Plating meals to five-star standard Serving meals and drinks onboard Preparing fruit bowls, flowers, magazines, canapés and welcome drinks Aircraft inventory Buying supplies down-route as needed Checking of safety equipment Following standard operating procedures Read More: What Happens During Cabin Crew Training? The role of a flight attendant on a private jet is a complex one, but it can be exciting too. It is often hard work, as you mostly fly solo on a private jet unless it is a Boeing Business Jet or Airbus Corporate Jet. Occasionally, if the service is expected to be hectic and there is an extra seat, an additional crew member can be carried. The salary is usually higher than that of commercial cabin crew but a lot more duties are expected of you. Related: How Much Do US Flight Attendants Earn?
