Thousands wiped off student debt in pre-Christmas giftWeyerhaeuser Co. stock falls Tuesday, underperforms marketFrench President Emmanuel Macron accused Haiti's transitional council of being "total morons" for dismissing the country's prime minister, according to a video shot at the G20 summit in Brazil this week and shared on social media Thursday. In the footage, the French leader is speaking on the sidelines of the G20 in Rio with an individual accusing Macron and France of "being responsible for the situation in Haiti". Haiti's transitional council pushed out then-prime minister Garry Conille after just five months in office, a move Macron called "terrible" in the clip. "They're total morons," said Macron referring to the transitional body, adding, "they never should have dismissed him." Condemning the remarks, Haiti's Foreign Ministry said Thursday that French Ambassador Antoine Michon had been summoned following the "unacceptable comments." Haitian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship Jean-Victor Harvel Jean-Baptiste used the meeting to express "indignation" on behalf of the transitional council, which he said viewed the remarks as "an unfriendly and inappropriate gesture that must be rectified," according to a statement from the ministry. Haiti has suffered from decades of political instability. But in recent months, the Caribbean country has seen a surge in violence with gangs now controlling 80 percent of the capital, Port-au-Prince. The clip also shows the French president, who is on a multi-leg tour of Latin America with his most recent stop in Chile, blaming Haitians for "letting drug trafficking take over". "Quite frankly, it was the Haitians who killed Haiti," the French president said in the clip. Businessman Alix Didier Fils-Aime was sworn in as Haiti's new prime minister on November 12, promising to restore security in the crisis-wracked country. fff-lum/ekf/sjw/bfm/md

This release was published on openPR.Federal Reserve officials expressed confidence that inflation is easing and the labor market is strong, allowing for further interest rate cuts albeit at a gradual pace, according to minutes from the November meeting released Tuesday. The meeting summary contained multiple statements indicating that officials are comfortable with the pace of inflation, even though by most measures it remains above the Fed’s 2% goal. With that in mind, and with conviction that the jobs picture is still fairly solid, Federal Open Market Committee members indicated that further rate cuts likely will happen, though they did not specify when and to what degree. “In discussing the outlook for monetary policy, participants anticipated that if the data came in about as expected, with inflation continuing to move down sustainably to 2 percent and the economy remaining near maximum employment, it would likely be appropriate to move gradually toward a more neutral stance of policy over time,” the minutes said. The FOMC voted unanimously at the meeting to take down its benchmark borrowing rate by a quarter percentage point to a target range of 4.5%-4.75%. Markets expect the Fed could cut again in December, though conviction has waned among concerns that President-elect Donald Trump ’s plans for tariffs could stoke inflation higher. The meeting concluded two days after the contentious presidential election campaign resulted in the Republican emerging as the victor and set to begin serving his second term in January. There was no mention of the election in the minutes, save for a staff notation that stock market volatility rose before the Nov. 5 results and fell after. There also was no discussion of the implications of fiscal policy, despite anticipation that Trump’s plans, which also include lower taxes and aggressive deregulation, could have substantial economic impacts. However, members did note a general level of uncertainty about how conditions are evolving. In addition, they expressed uncertainty over where the rate cuts would need to stop before the Fed hit a “neutral” interest rate that neither boosts nor restrains growth. “Many participants observed that uncertainties concerning the level of the neutral rate of interest complicated the assessment of the degree of restrictiveness of monetary policy and, in their view, made it appropriate to reduce policy restraint gradually,” the minutes said. Conflicting signals on inflation and the uncertainty over Trump’s policies have caused traders to scale back their outlook for interest rate cuts ahead. The market-implied probability of a rate trim in December has drifted below 60%, with an expectation of just three-quarters of a percentage point in reductions through the end of the 2025. Committee members appeared to spend much of the meeting talking about progress on inflation and a generally stable economic outlook. Policymakers in recent days have expressed confidence that current inflation readings are being boosted by shelter cost increases that are expected to slow as the pace of rent rises eases and makes its way through the data. “Almost all participants judged that, though month-to-month movements would remain volatile, incoming data generally remained consistent with inflation returning sustainably to 2 percent,” the document said. “Participants cited various factors likely to put continuing downward pressure on inflation, including waning business pricing power, the Committee’s still-restrictive monetary policy stance, and well-anchored longer-term inflation expectations,” it added. Policymakers had been expressing concern about the labor market. Nonfarm payrolls rose only 12,000 in October, though the meager gain has been attributed primarily to storms in the Southeast and labor strikes. Officials indicated that the state of the labor market is generally solid. “Participants generally noted ... that there was no sign of rapid deterioration in labor market conditions, with layoffs remaining low,” the minutes said.

NoneAhead of his second $1million tournament championship on Friday night, Impa Kasanganay is only going to make one big purchase with his winnings. The PFL star is taking on his fifth fight since the beginning of last year, and has transformed his life from homelessness to becoming a millionaire by winning last season’s light-heavyweight title. Between seasons, he took on Bellator champion Johnny Eblen in a lucrative Saudi Arabian bout this February. And now he is set for his second world title final on Friday night back in the Kingdom’s capital city of Riyadh. He takes on Dovlet Yagshimuradov, and insists he could have fought even more during his unprecedented period of activity. ALL ELBOWS: PFL announces major rule change three days before $1million world championship tournament finals Impa Kasanganay maintains a connection to homeless past after winning $1million prize In a recent video with on PFL social media, Impa Kasanganay returned to the area where he used to camp after going broke when he was released from the UFC . And he insists it is vitally important that he maintain a link to his difficult past now that he has found success. “There’s a verse I like that says ‘be joyful when you face trials of any kind’, so that breeds perseverance and endurance,” he told Bloody Elbow in an exclusive chat. “I believe people need that and someone told me once ‘fighters are the entertainer’s entertainer’. “Fighters help people, you watch us go into battle and everyone has felt something like that kind of during their life, right? They’re battling with something and they can relate to that. “I think God made me go through those trials. Did I choose to go through that? Did I really want to live in my car for a year? The year was cool and the car was alright but I think when you go through moments like that it’s not just about you. “God uses you to reflect him and work on your life. Now people get to use that moment as an inspiration and it’s a great honor to get to fight in Riyadh, the United States, Africa and beyond. I take that as a great responsibility. Impa Kasanganay will buy a motorcycle with second $1million PFL prize With his first $1million title win, Kasanganay invested in a media company as well as finally achieving his dream of opening a gym. ‘Impa’s Refinery’ in Florida allows beginners and professionals to train in top facilities, and was his biggest purchase after taking home the check. A second victory would appear to allow him some more flexibility with his spending, particularly after already taking a big money fight in February. But he promises that he won’t let himself get carried away after spending the past year learning about business in Harvard during his time off training. “No stupid purchases,” he insisted. “You learn a lot in a year! But I have a team, we’re building out a media company and we’re entering a film festival. I’ve got a lot of great people around and we’re doing a lot of great things. “I think you take on different challenges with success, things you plan for and things you don’t, you learn along the way. The Refinery, I put a lot back into that with trainers and a full staff, I take care of my family, bring everyone around each other. “If I win this year, I’d like a new motorcycle, that’d be about it. Anything I want to do from now on I can build, and it’s cool watching different companies and how they overcame different challenges... I want to invest in my education, maybe a new motorcycle and then hit new heights.” Impa Kasanganay plots Johnny Eblen rematch after world title clash While Kasanganay insists that he will ‘probably disappear for a little bit’ after the finals, he already has one eye on a particular rematch. The sole red mark on his record in the ten bouts since the summer of 2022 is Bellator middleweight champion Johnny Eblen , against whom he wants to avenge his loss. The pair’s ‘Battle of the Champions’ showdown in February saw Eblen emerge victorious by a hair in a razor-close split decision. But the PFL star is confident that he did enough to win, and believes their paths may cross again some day. “I saw Johnny fight Fabian Edwards , he’s a champion and he’s a warrior,” Kasanganay continued. “He brought it to Fabian and then Fabian brought it to him at the end, then Johnny found a way to win. “I know I won that fight, I claim victory, and I’m always grateful for that. Without that fight I don’t believe I’d be the person and the fighter that I am today, this is no shot at him, we’ve had a private conversation and there’s respect. “I respect the fact that he has called me out, so soon enough that fight will come. Right now on Friday I’ll claim this victory and that’s my focus, but after that see me in January and I’m ready to go.” Who is Francis Ngannou? Inside the former UFC heavyweight champion’s journey from poverty to combat sports superstardomNew Delhi: The great-grandson of ‘Veer’ Savarkar, Ranjit Savarkar, on Sunday, December 15 shared his views regarding the mention of freedom fighter and nationalist Veer Savarkar by Rahul Gandhi in Lok Sabha . He also opened up on “the world’s greatest honey trap.” Given that Rahul Gandhi has been lately repeatedly making personal comments on Savarkar, Ranjit Savarkar said that he does it to polarise Muslim votes, as Savarkar was a pioneer of Hindutva. “He wants to prove that Savarkar was a Manuvadi. He thinks if he talks bad about Savarkar, Muslims will vote for him,” he said, adding, “I think the comments and false narratives will continue.” Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, had said in the House on Saturday, “When you speak about defending the Constitution, you are ridiculing Savarkar; you are abusing Savarkar; you are defaming Savarkar.” Speaking about who struck a deal with the British, Savarkar or Nehru, he maintained that it was Nehru who compromised for power and to keep relations cordial with Britain, before recounting the course of events on the eve of Independence. “It’s about being an agent [of the British],” he said, adding that Nehru betrayed the nation for power. Explaining further, he pointed to letters in the book ‘Daughter of Empire: My Life as a Mountbatten,’ written by Lord Mountbatten’s daughter Pamela Hicks. The book contains letters exchanged between her mother, Lady Mountbatten, and Nehru for 11 to 12 years after Independence. He mentioned that Mountbatten retained a position in India as its first Governor General (while Jinnah became the Governor General of the freshly carved Pakistan). In the letters to Lady Mountbatten, “only the first and the last paragraphs used to be romantic; the rest was Nehru’s diary,” he said. He called this exercise “the world’s greatest honey trap operation—making the Prime Minister your agent for 12 years as all important information was going to Lady Mountbatten.” The Chairman of Swatantryaveer Savarkar Rashtriya Smarak, Ranjit Savarkar, was recently accused of deeming Mahatma Gandhi a casteist. He explained that Gandhi advocated the caste system, that one must adhere to the occupation of their respective caste, and he interpreted this as a denial of opportunities to an individual outside their caste-based occupation. “The Constitution gives us the right to choose our occupation,” he told IANS. Commenting on whether Ambedkar, Gandhi, and Savarkar are relevant in today’s politics, he maintained that Ambedkar and Savarkar have similar thoughts and are “most relevant” today; however, “Gandhi’s thoughts, today, are most irrelevant,” he concluded.
