Giuliani has been ordered to turn over most of his assets to two election poll workers.TEHRAN - The plight and sufferings of Shia Muslims in Pakistan’s restive northwest have come to the fore in the wake of the recent deadly attacks in the region. Shia Muslims in Kurram district in Pakistan’s northwestern province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have regularly been targeted. Dozens of people were killed and scores of others injured in renewed violence in Kurram last week. On Thursday, gunmen ambushed and killed 42 Shia Muslims, including women and children in the area. The victims were traveling in a convoy of multiple vehicles from Parachinar, the Shia-majority and the main town in Kurram, to Peshawar, the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Survivors said the attackers exited a vehicle and opened fire on the buses and cars. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and President Asif Ali Zardari denounced the attack. The Pakistani premier said those behind the killing of innocent civilians will not go unpunished. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi labeled the shootings a “terrorist attack.” Funerals were held for the victims on Friday. Markets, shops, and schools were closed in Parachinar, which is located near the Afghanistan border. Locals and families of the victims staged a sit-in, demanding action against the perpetrators. But violence against Shia Muslims showed no sign of abating as nearly 20 others were killed overnight on Saturday during fresh attacks. Videos and images on social media showed a market consumed by fire and orange flames in the night sky. Gunfire could also be heard. People have protested in Kurram and blamed the government and the authorities for failing to provide security to the citizens in the area. Shia groups in Pakistan announced a three-day mourning period following Thursday’s killings. They also organized protests in all of Pakistan’s major cities, including Lahore and Karachi. Affiliates of terror groups such as ISIS, also known as ISIL and Daesh, stand accused of carrying out attacks against Shia Muslims in Kurram in an attempt to establish their presence in the district. Allama Ahmed Iqbal Rizvi, a Shia leader, said various militant groups, such as Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and the local branch of ISIS; the so-called Islamic State Khorasan Province, or ISIS-K — have been targeting the Shia population in Kurram for a long time, according to the New York Times. “It is the incompetence of the government and state institutions,” Rizvi added, based on a report published by the Times. Relatives of the victims and local leaders have demanded immediate action against the perpetrators of such crimes against Shia Muslims. Human rights organizations have also condemned such attacks as a form of genocide. Armed extremists besieged Parachinar from 2007 to 2012 and obstructed the delivery of essentials such as food and medicine for the Shia community. The siege resulted in the loss of hundreds of lives. Thousands of others were also displaced. The recent developments underscore the urgent necessity for the Pakistani government with the help of peace activists, civil society organizations, and high-profile figures to draw up effective strategies to address these heinous attacks against Shia Muslims, ensuring that the residents of Parachinar can enjoy a secure and tranquil life. The Pakistani government should also ensure that perpetrators are held accountable and brought to justice.Martin Roberts lands huge new ITV show in bid to become the next Jeremy Clarkson

Welcome to the Saquon Barkley show. The Philadelphia Eagles kept rolling with a dominant 37-20 road result at the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday Night Football . Los Angeles led in the first quarter but Barkley helped Philadelphia take control at the interval, where it came out of the gates firing en route to double-digit third and fourth quarters. Philadelphia moved to 9-2, currently riding a seven-game winning streak, as it strengthened its hold of the NFC East while Los Angeles fell to 5-6, staying in third in a close NFC West. Let's analyze the game further with winners and losers: WINNER: Saquon Barkley, Eagles A year after San Francisco 49ers ' Christian McCaffrey was the best running back in football, Barkley has claimed the throne. Barkley delivered rushing touchdowns of 72 and 70 yards en route to 255 total on the night. He had 26 carries along with four catches for 47 yards. The performance marked the most rushing yards in a game in Eagles history and the ninth-most in a game in league history. Take a bow. LOSER: Kyren Williams, Rams It was the opposite story in the opposing backfield. Despite a positive start, Williams couldn't maintain the consistency and even caused some turnover miscues. Williams ended the game rushing for 16 yards on 72 carries and a touchdown, but also fumbled twice, one of which the Eagles recovered. The Rams needed more on that front to keep pace with Philadelphia, but Barkley's two game-breaking runs didn't help. WINNER: Nakobe Dean, Eagles Philadelphia had several top performers on the defensive side. The nod goes to linebacker Dean, who led the Eagles in total tackles with eight, five of which were solo. He also recorded one sack, two tackles for loss and a QB hit on Matthew Stafford. Milton Williams recorded a game-high two sacks on Stafford, while Brandon Graham and Josh Sweat each added one. LOSER: New York Giants It was a day that saw the Giants lose 30-7 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That game featured Baker Mayfield mocking Tommy DeVito after a score, the Giants' new starting QB1 after the team cut Daniel Jones, who they agreed to pay $160 million to over four years. In that loss, the Giants garnered a total of 245 yards through the run and passing attacks. Barkley outgained them on his own just on the ground. A colossal mistake to let Barkley walk keeps finding new ways to haunt New York. WINNER: Eagles on third down Sometimes third-down results can reveal the outcome of a game. That was surely the case in this one, as Philadelphia had no issues moving the chains with 9 of 15 conversions. It was the complete opposite story for Los Angeles, which didn't convert on a single third down despite eight attempts. The Rams did make all three fourth-down conversions, but it wasn't a sustainable method to stay in the game. Both teams had 10 total drives each.Allar puts critics on mute, keeps winning for Penn StateThe Samsung Bespoke 4-Door Flex Refrigerator (with AI Family Hub+ and AI Vision Inside) is transforming kitchens into the heart of the home and makes it an essential centerpiece for family interaction and smart living. Rudy Giuliani in a courtroom outburst accuses judge in assets case of being unfair, drawing a rebuke

German politicians have criticised Elon Musk for an opinion piece he wrote backing the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD), claiming his support for the party was “intrusive”. The support of the AfD from Musk, who is set to serve in US President-elect Donald Trump's administration, comes as Germans are set to vote on February 23. The vote was triggered after a coalition government led by Chancellor Olaf Scholz collapsed in a dispute over how to revitalise Germany’s stagnant economy. Mr Musk wrote an op-ed in German in the Welt am Sonntag newspaper claiming that “only the AfD can save Germany" and praised the party's approach to regulation, taxes and market deregulation. He went on to say the party “can lead the country into a future where economic prosperity, cultural integrity and technological innovation are not just wishes, but reality.” The editor of the newspaper’s opinion section, Eva Marie Kogel, resigned after the publication of the article. She wrote on X: “I always enjoyed leading the opinion section of WELT and WAMS. Today an article by Elon Musk appeared in Welt am Sonntag. I handed in my resignation yesterday after it went to print.” Friedrich Merz, leader of the opposition Christian Democrats and current favourite to succeed Scholz as chancellor, said in an interview with the Funke Media Group: "I cannot recall a comparable case of interference, in the history of Western democracies, in the election campaign of a friendly country." Mr Merz described the commentary as "intrusive and pretentious". Saskia Esken, co-leader of Scholz's Social Democrats (SPD), vowed fierce resistance to attempts by state actors as well as the rich and influential to influence Germany's elections. “In Elon Musk's world, democracy and workers' rights are obstacles to more profit,” she told Reuters. “We say quite clearly: Our democracy is defensible and it cannot be bought.” Welt's editor-in-chief designate defended the decision to publish the commentary, saying that democracy and journalism thrive on freedom of opinion, including polarising positions. The AfD is currently second in the opinion polls and might be able to thwart a centre-right or centre-left majority. However, the party has no realistic possibility of entering power because other parties refuse to work with them.

Syrian President Assad toppled after lightning rebel advanceFRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) — Looking for hard-to-find bottles of Kentucky bourbon to toast the holidays or add to a collection? Get your bids ready as the Bluegrass State launches its first online auction of confiscated alcohol. Whiskeys up for sale include two bottles of Old Rip Van Winkle, a Blanton’s Single Barrel Gold in box with Japanese markings and a bottle of Four Roses Small Batch Barrel Strength 2011. The sale is the result of a new Kentucky law, which allows alcohol confiscated from closed criminal investigations by the state's alcoholic beverage control agency to be auctioned. Online bidding opens Wednesday and closes at midnight on Dec. 11. Proceeds will support programs promoting responsible alcohol use by adults and awareness programs for youths. “This is a really good auction,” Eric Gregory, president of the Kentucky Distillers’ Association, said by phone Tuesday. “There are some hard-to-find and rare bottles on there.” No estimate has been given on how much the auction might raise. “We look forward to seeing the response to this auction and have started planning additional auctions for 2025,” said Allyson Taylor, commissioner of the Kentucky Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. The auction features 32 bottles of alcohol and includes a “stock the bar” bundle with bottles of wine, vodka, rum and whiskey, the agency said. But the stars are the hard-to-find and rare bourbons up for sale. “It’s not every day you go to a liquor store and find a bottle of Blanton’s Gold," Gregory said. “You never go to a liquor store and find a bottle of Four Roses 2011.” The lineup includes bottles of E.H. Taylor bourbon, Blanton’s Single Barrel, Eagle Rare 10 yr., Weller Antique 107, Willett Family Estate Single Barrel Rye, Michter’s, an Old Forester gift set and more. A link to the online auction is available at ABC.ky.gov . Auction items cannot be shipped, so winning bidders must pick up items in Frankfort, the state said. The auctions will become a “can't miss opportunity” for bourbon connoisseurs, Gregory said. Until this year's change in the law, Kentucky regulators were required to destroy confiscated alcohol once a case was closed, the agency said. “We don't like to see good bourbon poured down the drain,” Gregory said. Kentucky distillers produce 95% of the global bourbon supply, the Kentucky distillers’ group says.Sheets Smith Wealth Management Decreases Stake in Alphabet Inc. Anthony Edwards had 28 points and nine rebounds for Minnesota, which has lost five of its last seven. The lead grew to 79-60 with 4:26 to play in the period. But the Timberwolves chipped it all the way down in the fourth, getting within 107-105 with 34 seconds left on a driving layup by Randle. Timberwolves: Minnesota will be looking to for some wins at home, after dropping four of its last five on the road. It's been a bad week for the New York Giants. The Daniel Jones era has officially come to a close, with the former first round pick requesting and receiving his release after six seasons. A recipient of a four-year, $160million contract extension, Jones had not performed well enough in 2024 to preserve his starting job, and was officially benched after a defeat to the Carolina Panthers. Heading into their game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, the Giants had the worst record in the NFC with two wins and eight losses. Tommy DeVito was confirmed as the starter in Week 12, but struggled in the first half at Metlife Stadium. New York went three-and-out on the first drive of the game and turned the ball over on downs on their second drive as the quarterback completed just one of two passes for five yards in the opening quarter. Things didn't get much better in the second, and DeVito ended the half with 31 yards as his team went in 23-0 down. While the Giants suffered, Tampa Bay took full advantage, and visiting quarterback Baker Mayfield had a lot of fun. He threw for 230 yards in the first half, and even managed to fight his way into the end zone with a rushing touchdown. While his dive across the line was impressive enough, it was his celebration that really caught the eye. As he got back to his feet, Mayfield hit the Giants and their fans with DeVito's trademark celebration. Last year, New York's QB went viral for putting his hand up in the air and pinching his fingers together after throwing a TD. DeVito, who has made no secret of his Italian heritage, even won the Bud Light Celebration of the Year Award for his efforts. And while he didn't get the chance to pull out the celebration in the first half against Tampa Bay, Mayfield decided to do it for him. Naturally, his actions caught the attention of fans on social media. "Tommy DeVito out here catching strays from Baker Mayfield," NFL insider Ian Rapoport wrote on X. "Doing this in front of DeVito himself is CRAZY WORK," another said. "Oh my. Baker Mayfield just scored a TD and made sure all Giants fans saw him doing the Tommy DeVito celebration. Giants getting embarrassed at home," journalist Ari Meirov added. Being on the wrong end of a 23-0 scoreline heading into half-time is bad enough. But a fellow QB hitting your trademark celebration while you're sat on the sideline just adds insult to injury. talkSPORT is your home of the NFL on UK radio, and you can stay up to date with all the latest from around the league via our dedicated 'EndZone' YouTube channel .None

How Trump's FCC chief pick could make life more difficult for media companies

Caprock Group LLC Trims Holdings in Fortune Brands Innovations, Inc. (NYSE:FBIN)

But the City boss has vowed to stay on and lift the club back to the top even if they are sent all the way down to the National League. Guardiola ended speculation over his immediate future this week by extending his contract, which had been due to expire at the end of the season, through to the summer of 2027. That has given the club some stability at a time of great uncertainty as they fight 115 charges related to alleged breaches of the Premier League’s financial regulations. City have denied all wrongdoing but their punishment if found guilty could be severe, with demotion even a possibility. Guardiola has strongly defended the club in the past and is happy to continue doing so. The Spaniard said: “I don’t enjoy it, I prefer not to be in that position, but once it’s there I love it because, when you believe in your club, and the people there – I believe what they say to me and the reasons why. “I cannot say yet because we’re awaiting the sentence in February or March – I don’t know when – but at the same time, I like it. “I read something about the situation and how you need to be relegated immediately. Seventy-five per cent of the clubs want it, because I know what they do behind the scenes and this sort of stuff. “I said when all the clubs accused us of doing something wrong, (and people asked) what happens if we are relegated, (I said) I will be here. “Next year, I don’t know the position of the Conference they are going to (put) us, (but) we are going to come up and come up and come back to the Premier League. I knew it then and I feel it now.” The immediate priority for Guardiola, who said his contract negotiations were completed in “just two hours”, is to arrest a run of four successive defeats in all competitions. Yet, ahead of their return to action against Tottenham at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, the champions continue to grapple with a lengthy injury list. Mateo Kovacic is their latest casualty after sustaining a knock on international duty that could keep him out for up to a month. On the positive side, defenders Nathan Ake, John Stones and Manuel Akanji could feature and Jack Grealish is also closing in on a return after a month out. Much to Guardiola’s frustration, Grealish was called up by England for their recent Nations League games, although he later withdrew. Guardiola said: “I want the best for Jack and I want the best for Jack with the national team but the doctor said to me that he was not ready to play. “I know (England) want him but they have 200 players to select from and Jack was not fit. He had to recover from many things.” Kyle Walker played for England against both Greece and the Republic of Ireland despite limited game time since suffering injury in the October international break. Guardiola said: “If he is fit I like him to play in the national team. It is not a problem, don’t misunderstand me. “Kyle has a dream to make 100 caps for the national team. Do I want to cancel this dream? Absolutely not. “But if you are not fit, if you cannot play here, you cannot play for the national team. It is quite obvious.”

Rico Carty, who won the 1970 NL batting title when he hit a major league-best .366 for the Atlanta Braves, has died. He was 85. Major League Baseball , the players’ association and the Braves paid tribute to Carty on social media on Sunday. A family friend told Listín Diario — a newspaper in Carty’s native Dominican Republic — that he died Saturday night in an Atlanta hospital. “Carty was one of the first groundbreaking Latino stars in the major leagues, and he established himself as a hero to millions in his native Dominican Republic, his hometown of San Pedro de Macoris, and the city of Atlanta, where he was a beloved fan favorite,” the players' association said in its statement . The Braves said Carty left an indelible mark on the organization. “While his on-field accomplishments will never be forgotten, his unforgettable smile and generous nature will be sorely missed,” the team said in its statement. Carty made his big league debut with the Braves in September 1963. He batted .330 with 22 homers and 88 RBIs in his first full season in 1964, finishing second to Dick Allen in voting for NL Rookie of the Year. The Braves moved from Milwaukee to Atlanta after the 1965 season, and Carty got the franchise's first hit in its new home on April 12, 1966, against Pittsburgh. Carty had his best year in 1970, batting .366 with 25 homers and a career-best 101 RBIs. He started the All-Star Game after he was elected as a write-in candidate, joining Willie Mays and Hank Aaron in the NL outfield. Carty batted .299 with 204 homers and 890 RBIs over 15 years in the majors, also playing for Cleveland, Toronto, Oakland, Texas and the Chicago Cubs. He retired after the 1979 season.
