That made Sunday's primetime home bout with an emergent Chelsea side a golden chance to set the record straight, and perhaps they did -- just not in the way they would have wanted. They got off to the perfect start, scoring twice in the first 11 minutes thanks in part to two bizarre Marc Cucurella slips. But Chelsea then scored four without reply as Spurs fell to pieces, giving away two penalties and watching agonisingly as their two best centre-backs -- Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven -- exited the fray injured. It's perhaps the way those injuries came about that summed up Spurs best: Romero appeared to hurt his groin while executing a drag and turn in his own penalty box, while Van de Ven's hamstring pinged late on as he was forced into yet another long sprint to chase down Chelsea on the counter. The size of Ruben Amorim's task at Man United was made ever clearer on a helter-skelter evening at Old Trafford, in a match that had it all. Forest were excellent value for a famous victory -- their first on this ground since 1994 -- but were certainly nudged in the right direction by a horror day for André Onana between the sticks. There were plenty to pick from in the Premier League this weekend, but the best of the bunch was Lamptey's opener for Brighton & Hove Albion against Leicester City . The right-back collected an errant cross from the opposite flank, ducked inside and, from 18 yards out and an angle well wide of goal, curled an incredible effort into the top corner with his weaker left foot. His mesmeric quick feet absolutely bamboozled the Spurs defence -- only Cole Palmer completed more dribbles on the night -- and his goal was a stunner: He squeezed past three defenders before curling a 20-yard effort in off the post. -- Tighe LaLiga Barcelona's 2-2 draw at Real Betis was enough to have Hansi Flick "leaving his technical area, shouting and gesticulating." At least, that was the reason given in the referee's report for the coach's 66th-minute red card, his first since his arrival in Spanish football. And that was with Barça leading 0-1 after Robert Lewandowski 's opener. It only got worse from there for the LaLiga leaders. A 2-2 draw at the Estadio Benito Villamarín -- with Betis levelling in the 94th minute -- made it ten points dropped in Barça's last five league games. Later on Saturday, Real Madrid were waiting to take advantage. After struggling to get going at Montilivi, they eventually ran out comfortable 3-0 winners against last year's title contenders Girona , thanks to goals from Jude Bellingham -- his fifth in five league matches -- Arda Güler and Kylian Mbappé . That last goal, a well-taken, low shot from the right-hand side, after a logic-defying assist from Luka Modric , relieved some of the pressure on Mbappé. Despite all the criticism, he's now scored nine goals in 15 league appearances. Those two results left it tighter than ever at the top: Barcelona have 38 points from 17 games, Madrid have 36 from 16. With neither team at their best, there'll be plenty more twists to come. With an hour left to play at the Metropolitano on Sunday, Atletico Madrid were 3-1 down to Sevilla. Then two players, Antoine Griezmann and substitute Samuel Lino, combined to change the game. Griezmann pulled a goal back; Lino made it 3-3 with just four minutes on the pitch; and then the Brazilian assisted Griezmann for a dramatic 94th minute winner. The comeback leaves Atleti right in the title race, just a point behind Madrid. Eintracht Frankfurt only drawing with FC Augsburg at home have boosted the Bavarians' margin at the top. Things were not looking promising for an already-wounded Stuttgart side, as last season's runners-up trailed by two goals after 48 minutes. As it turned out, Stuttgart manager Sebastian Hoeness made an inspired substitution by bringing on striker Nick Woltemade at half-time. The 22-year-old led a dramatic comeback at MHP Arena, scoring two goals before Atakan Karazor capitalised on a horrendous mistake by Union goalkeeper Frederik Rønnow . The clash between Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe on Sunday was no different. José Mourinho and his side travelled across the Bosporus to play at Tüpras Stadyumu. Led by Edin Dzeko up front, Fenerbahçe appeared to be the stronger team during the first 45 minutes but did not manage to score a goal, which allowed Beşiktaş -- who are currently sitting outside the European qualification places -- to stay in the game and eventually strike first thanks to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. NoneThe Transportation Security Administration has some reminders for those heading to airports during the holidays. “People seem to forget some of the more common and routine steps that they need to take when packing for a flight or when they are going through a checkpoint, perhaps because they’re focused on being at their destination and not focusing on what needs to happen before getting there,” said TSA officer Christopher Kirchein of John F. Kennedy International Airport. “Travelers sometimes ignore the advice that we give them,” said TeaNeisha Barker, a TSA uniformed adviser. “We are providing guidance so that they get through the checkpoint as simply and conveniently as possible. Not every airport has the same technology, so listen to the guidance we are offering.” “Passengers forget that knives and other weapons are not allowed through our checkpoints. It’s shocking to see so many people with knives,” said TSA officer Aisha Hicks of Philadelphia International Airport. “Weapons of any kind are prohibited through a TSA checkpoint.” TSA officers shared this list of the common things that travelers forget and should remember when coming to a security checkpoint. Ten things that travelers need to remember when preparing to go through the security screening process: • Remember that you cannot bring bottles of water, energy drinks, juice, coffee, soda or any filled insulated reusable container through a security checkpoint. However, they can finish their beverage and bring the empty bottle or container with them. • Remember to bring your ID to the checkpoint. • Remember when TSA officers remind you to remove everything from your pockets that it does not only mean metallic items such as keys and mobile phones, but it means everything, including non-metallic items such as tissues, lip balm, breath mints, etc. • Remember that you cannot bring a firearm through a checkpoint. Instead, pack your unloaded firearm in a locked hard-sided case and declare it at your airline check-in counter and the airline will ensure it is transported in the belly of the plane where nobody has access to it. • Remember that you need to remove your shoes when getting screened and then end up barefoot on the floor. It’s probably a good idea to wear socks. • Remember that children 12 and under are allowed to travel through a TSA PreCheck screening lane with a parent who has TSA PreCheck on their boarding pass. In addition, don’t forget that children up to the age of 18 can also come into the TSA PreCheck lane with their parent if they are on the same airline reservation as their parent. • Remember that passengers that appear 12 and under or 75 and older do not need to remove their shoes and light jacket. • Remember, if you are putting a lock on your luggage, make sure it is a TSA compatible lock so that if TSA officers need to open your luggage, they can unlock it and relock it. If the lock is not TSA compliant, TSA officers who need to open your luggage will cut off the lock, rendering it useless. • Remember that you can bring medications through a security checkpoint, even liquid medication. Just let the TSA officer know that you have liquid medication with you so it can be screened separately. • Remember to get a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license sooner rather than later because REAL ID goes into effect on May 7.

The Jacksonville Jaguars placed quarterback Trevor Lawrence (concussion) on injured reserve Wednesday, likely ending his season after a vicious illegal hit in last week's loss to the Houston Texans. Lawrence, slammed in the head and neck by Texans linebacker Azeez Al-Shaair after giving himself up, would be eligible to return Week 18. However, the 2-10 Jags are already eliminated from playoff contention. Mac Jones will start for the Jags this week against the Tennessee Titans. Al-Shaair, meanwhile, was suspended three games by the NFL on Tuesday. Lawrence, 25, has thrown for 2,045 yards, 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions in 10 starts this season. He also missed time with a left (non-throwing) shoulder injury. Lawrence was carrying the ball and went into a feet-first slide at Houston's 45-yard line during the second quarter of Sunday's game. Al-Shaair launched into him and delivered a forearm shot near the quarterback's head and shoulder. Multiple skirmishes erupted as Lawrence lay prone on the field. Al-Shaair was ejected, along with Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones. Lawrence immediately displayed the hand motion known as the fencing posture that is associated with traumatic brain injury. Not every airport has the same technology, so listen to the guidance we are offering.” “Passengers forget that knives and other weapons are not allowed through our checkpoints. It’s shocking to see so many people with knives,” said TSA officer Aisha Hicks of Philadelphia International Airport. “Weapons of any kind are prohibited through a TSA checkpoint.” TSA officers shared this list of the common things that travelers forget and should remember when coming to a security checkpoint. Ten things that travelers need to remember when preparing to go through the security screening process: • Remember that you cannot bring bottles of water, energy drinks, juice, coffee, soda or any filled insulated reusable container through a security checkpoint. However, they can finish their beverage and bring the empty bottle or container with them. • Remember to bring your ID to the checkpoint. • Remember when TSA officers remind you to remove everything from your pockets that it does not only mean metallic items such as keys and mobile phones, but it means everything, including non-metallic items such as tissues, lip balm, breath mints, etc. • Remember that you cannot bring a firearm through a checkpoint. Instead, pack your unloaded firearm in a locked hard-sided case and declare it at your airline check-in counter and the airline will ensure it is transported in the belly of the plane where nobody has access to it. • Remember that you need to remove your shoes when getting screened and then end up barefoot on the floor. It’s probably a good idea to wear socks. • Remember that children 12 and under are allowed to travel through a TSA PreCheck screening lane with a parent who has TSA PreCheck on their boarding pass. In addition, don’t forget that children up to the age of 18 can also come into the TSA PreCheck lane with their parent if they are on the same airline reservation as their parent. • Remember that passengers that appear 12 and under or 75 and older do not need to remove their shoes and light jacket. • Remember, if you are putting a lock on your luggage, make sure it is a TSA compatible lock so that if TSA officers need to open your luggage, they can unlock it and relock it. ‘You’ll never get in front of it’: Hackers target schools daily
Women are more likely to need walking sticks, wheelchairs and other mobility aids compared to men, but they are less likely to use them, according to a study. And single people are more likely to use mobility tools compared to those who are married, according to researchers from University College London (UCL) and the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM). Researchers looked at information from a group of more than 12,000 adults in England aged 50 to 89 who were tracked over a 13-year period. At the start of the study, 8,225 adults had no mobility difficulty and did not use mobility assistive products (MAPs). Some 2,480 were deemed to have “unmet need” and 1,375 were using mobility aids. During the follow-up period, there were 2,313 “transitions” where people went from having no mobility issues to needing some help with getting around. And 1,274 people started to use mobility aids. Compared with men, women were 49% more likely to transition from not needing mobility aids to needing to use them, according to the study which has been published in The Lancet Public Health. But were 21% less likely to go on to use mobility aids when they needed them. The authors said their study showed “barriers to access” for women. For both men and women, with every year that passed during the study period the need for mobility aids increased. People who were older, less educated, less wealthy or reported being disabled were more likely to “transition from no need to unmet need, and from unmet need to use”, the authors said, with this indicating a “higher prevalence of mobility limitations and MAP need overall among these groups”. They added: “Finally, marital or partnership status was not associated with transitioning to unmet need; however, single people were more likely to transition from unmet need to use compared with married or partnered people.” Jamie Danemayer, first author of the study from UCL Computer Science and UCL’s Global Disability Innovation Hub, said: “Our analysis suggests that there is a clear gender gap in access to mobility aids. “Though our data didn’t ascertain the reason why participants weren’t using mobility aids, other research tells us that women are often more likely than men to face obstacles such as cost barriers as a result of well-documented income disparities between genders. “Many mobility aids are designed for men rather than women, which we think may be a factor. “Using mobility aids can also make a disability visible, which can impact the safety and stigma experienced by women, in particular. “There’s a critical need for further research to identify and break down the barriers preventing women from accessing mobility aids that would improve their quality of life.” Professor Cathy Holloway, also from UCL, added: “Not having access to mobility aids when a person needs one can have a big impact on their independence, well-being and quality of life. “Our analysis suggests that women, in particular, regardless of other factors such as education and employment status, are not getting the support that they need.” Professor Shereen Hussein, senior author of the study and lead of the social care group at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, said: “The research provides compelling evidence of gender disparities in accessing assistive technology, suggesting that cost, design bias, and social stigma are likely to disproportionally affect women. “This underscores the need for inclusive, gender-sensitive approaches in the design, production and inclusivity of assistive technologies.”SIR Keir Starmer has come to the defence of the humble sandwich after Kemi Badenoch dismissed it as "not real food". President-elect Donald Trump’s Middle East envoy travelled to and Qatar in a push to seal a ceasefire deal in before Trump’s inauguration in January. Incoming Middle East envoy Steven Witkoff met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani in November, Reuters reported on Wednesday, citing an unnamed source. The meetings underscore how diplomacy's centre of gravity has shifted from the Biden administration to the incoming Trump administration, with roughly one month to go before the inauguration. Trump made ending wars in the Middle East a key part of his presidential campaign. The Biden administration brokered a 60-day ceasefire between Hezbollah and Israel in November. That agreement has been fragile, with Israel attacking Lebanon since the day after the agreement was made. A senior US official told reporters last month that the Trump transition team was briefed on the deal as it was negotiated. Trump on Monday waded into Israel's war on Gaza directly, warning on social media of massive repercussions if hostages there are not released by the time he takes office in January. Trump’s comment comes after Hamas on Saturday released a video of 20-year-old Israeli-American hostage Edan Alexander, who was captured while serving in the Israeli military. Alexander pleaded tearfully to Netanyahu to cut a deal for the hostages' release. Qatar’s involvement in the talks is notable because the Gulf state said previously it was suspending its mediator role amid a lack of progress in the talks. The source told Reuters that Hamas negotiators could return to Doha "soon" for a fresh round of talks. "They are supportive of a Gaza ceasefire deal," the source told Reuters. The Biden administration has tried to broker a ceasefire that would start with the release of hostages held in Gaza. It regularly blamed Hamas for standing in the way of a deal, particularly saying that Hamas chief Yayha Sinwar was the “main obstacle” to a settlement. However, since his killing in October, there has been no progress towards a ceasefire. Analysts Israel has been the main roadblock to ending the war and that Netanyahu has an interest in dragging out the fighting, as he faces domestic political issues, including a corruption trial and a possible inquiry into the Hamas attack if the conflict ends. Witkoff, a Jewish-American real estate developer and Trump's golfing friend, has struck several business deals with Gulf states, including the $623m sale of New York’s Park Lane Hotel to Qatar’s investment fund. Tributes were paid to the former Scottish first minister, who died suddenly in North Macedonia in October at the age of 69. A private family funeral has already taken place, with Saturday’s memorial service in Edinburgh held to celebrate his love of Scotland and his commitment to the cause of independence. But while some 500 people, including family, friends and politicians from across the spectrum attended the service at St Giles’ Cathedral, his successor Nicola Sturgeon was not present. A rift between her and Mr Salmond – who she had previously described as her mentor – developed during her term as SNP leader. Ms Sturgeon attended the funeral of Scottish comedian Janey Godley in Glasgow on Saturday morning. Her successor, Mr Swinney, was met with boos as he arrived at the service – held on St Andrew’s Day – with at least one person in the crowd outside on the Royal Mile shouting “traitor”. Mr Salmond stood down as SNP leader and first minister after the 2014 referendum in which Scots voted to stay part of the UK. He helped found and went on to lead another pro-independence party, Alba, with Kenny MacAskill, a long-time friend who served as justice secretary in Holyrood under Mr Salmond. A loss of Scotland’s voice on the international stage. A loss of integrity in Scottish politics. And a great loss to Scotland’s independence movement. “As a family it is likely a loss we will never get over.” Duncan Hamilton KC, who was an SNP MSP after the first Scottish Parliament elections, but also served as a political adviser and legal counsel to Mr Salmond, said the former first minister had “rightly been hailed as one of the greatest Scottish politicians of this, or any, generation”. He told how Mr Salmond took the SNP from being “a fringe act trying to get onto the main stage” to a party of government. “In Scottish politics, his success was both spectacular and unrivalled,” Mr Hamilton said. “Alex Salmond will forever be a pivotal figure in Scotland’s story. He changed a nation. He inspired a country. “History will certainly remember him as a man of talent, charisma and substance. But also as a political leader of courage, vision and intelligence. “He dared to dream.
