big fish casino update China’s central government has urged local authorities to provide financial aid to people facing high living costs, particularly in the lead-up to the New Year and Lunar New Year festivals. Municipalities that can afford it are encouraged to offer subsidies, temporarily reduce prices, and link social assistance to price levels, according to the Ministry of Civil Affairs. This initiative is part of broader efforts to stimulate private consumption, which is seen as key to revitalizing the economy. With potential U.S. tariffs looming, China is also shifting its policy focus toward boosting consumption and increasing public spending in 2025. While cash subsidies during festivals like Lunar New Year are common, the government took the unusual step of distributing funds ahead of the October 1 National Day Holiday to encourage private spending. *** At the margin this should be a tailwind for 'China proxy' trades such as AUD, and also for China stocks. The hapless AUD has been pummeled against the strong US dollar.Philadelphia star quarterback Jalen Hurts remains in concussion protocol and has been ruled for Sunday's game against the visiting Dallas Cowboys, with the Eagles expected to start Kenny Pickett. Hurts missed practice all week, and head coach Nick Sirianni confirmed before Friday's session that Hurts remains in the concussion protocol, adding, "It's going to be tough for him to make it this week." Hurts and Pickett (ribs) were both injured during last weekend's 36-33 loss to the Washington Commanders, but Pickett was a full participant in Thursday's practice and was limited on Friday. The Eagles also have Tanner McKee as the emergency third quarterback and signed Ian Book to the practice squad this week. Pickett, who grew up as an Eagles fan in Ocean Township, N.J., will have a chance to help Philadelphia (12-3) clinch the NFC East title in his first start for the franchise. "I'm very excited. It's a big opportunity," he told reporters Thursday. "I've been working hard to stay ready and I felt like I was in a good position last game with my preparation and now having a week to practice, I'll feel even better going into the stadium. So, I'm excited. I just want to get the win." Pickett relieved Hurts in the first quarter against Washington and completed 14 of 24 passes for 143 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Prior to that, he had appeared in three games in mop-up duty. "He's done a great job," Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown said on Friday. "He did a great job last week. I know he had a few hiccups, but overall he's doing a great job. It's not his first rodeo. We have a lot of confidence in him, I do, and I'm excited. "(He's) poised, confident. He comes in, he's commanding the huddle and that's what you want to see." Pickett, 26, compiled a 14-10 record as the starter for the Steelers from 2022-23 after being drafted by Pittsburgh in the first round (20th overall) in 2022. After the Steelers acquired Russell Wilson in March, Pickett was traded along with a 2024 fourth-round pick to the Eagles in exchange for a 2024 third-round pick and two 2025 seventh-rounders. Pickett has completed 62.3 percent of his pass attempts for 4,622 yards with 14 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 29 career games. He has rushed for 303 yards and four scores. Hurts, 26, has completed 68.7 percent of his passes this season for 2,903 yards with 18 TDs and five picks in 15 starts. He has rushed for 630 yards and is tied for the NFL lead with 14 rushing touchdowns. --Field Level Media

A ninth U.S. telecoms firm has been confirmed to have been hacked as part of a sprawling Chinese espionage campaign that gave officials in Beijing access to private texts and phone conversations of an unknown number of Americans, a top White House official said Friday. Biden administration officials said this month that at least eight telecommunications companies, as well as dozens of nations, had been affected by the Chinese hacking blitz known as Salt Typhoon. But deputy national security adviser Anne Neuberger told reporters Friday that a ninth victim had been identified after the administration released guidance to companies about how to hunt for Chinese culprits in their networks. The update from Neuberger is the latest development in a massive hacking operation that has alarmed national security officials, exposed cybersecurity vulnerabilities in the private sector and laid bare China 's hacking sophistication. The hackers compromised the networks of telecommunications companies to obtain customer call records and gain access to the private communications of what officials have said is a a limited number of individuals. Though the FBI has not publicly identified any of the victims, officials believe senior U.S. government officials and prominent political figures are among those whose whose communications were accessed. Neuberger said Friday that officials did not yet have a precise sense how many Americans overall were affected by Salt Typhoon, in part because the Chinese were careful about their techniques, but that a “large number" were in the Washington-Virginia area. Officials believe the goal of the hackers was to identify who owned the phones and, if they were “government targets of interest,” spy on their texts and phone calls, she said. The FBI said most of the people targeted by the hackers are "primarily involved in government or political activity.” Neuberger said the episode highlighted the need for required cybersecurity practices in the telecommunications industry, something the Federal Communications Commission is to take up at a meeting next month. In addition, she said, the government was planning additional actions in coming weeks in response to the hacking campaign, though she did not say what they were. “We know that voluntary cyber security practices are inadequate to protect against China, Russia and Iran hacking of our critical infrastructure,” she said. The Chinese government has denied responsibility for the hacking.

Piers Morgan stuck the boot in on Erling Haaland on social media after watching the Manchester City striker blank in their chastening 4-0 loss at home to Tottenham . The Premier League champions were on the end of a shocking upset at The Etihad as they fell to a FIFTH successive defeat ahead of next weekend's meeting with top of the table Liverpool . It was another afternoon to forget for Haaland, who spurned two golden chances early on. It's now just two goals in his seven appearances for the Norway star, who cut a frustrated figure throughout the afternoon. A brace from James Maddison and additional goals from Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson sealed victory for the visitors. And Morgan , a renowned Arsenal fan, wasted no time in digging Haaland out on social media in the wake of City's latest setback. Alongside an image showing the striker telling Gunners boss Mikel Arteta to "be humble" after their draw earlier in the season, Morgan quipped on X: "You’d DEFINITELY better stay humble after this, @ErlingHaaland," along with laughing emojis. Ironically, Haaland's recent slump in form has come in the aftermath of said fixture. It's a far cry from his early season form, where he plundered 10 goals in City's first five Premier League matches. With Haaland struggling to find the net, City have failed to rack up the points in their recent games. It's now three league defeats in a row for the defending champions, who could start next weekend's huge title showdown with Liverpool a staggering EIGHT points behind Arne Slot's men. Join the debate! What did you make of Man City's performance against Spurs? Let us know here Speaking post-match on BBC Radio 5 Live, Guardiola admitted that City's current collapse in form is unlikely anything else he has experienced during his trophy-laden eight-year spell at the club. He said: "In eight years we have never lived this kind of situation. Now we have to live it and break it winning the next games, especially the next one. Now we see things in one way, maybe in a few weeks we see it differently." When he was asked if players were struggling, Guardiola added: "Of course. We are happy when we win and concerned when we don't win. It's normal. There would be a problem if they were not worried or I am not worried. "We are not used to doing this situation but life is like this. Sometimes it happens and we have to accept it. It is what it is now and we will stand up and do it." KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Former Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was fired by UCLA on Thursday, leaving him in a similar situation to last year: As a coaching free agent. Back then, when Bieniemy was about to be let go as the Washington Commanders’ offensive coordinator, he received permission to come back around the Chiefs’ facility. Coach Andy Reid said in a Super Bowl media session that Bieniemy spoke to the team before last season’s AFC championship game and also joined the team in meetings. So could there be a similar reunion with Bieniemy at the end of this season with the Chiefs, as he awaits his next coaching opportunity? “I haven’t even gone that direction. I haven’t thought about it,” Reid said Friday. “He’s dealing with all that stuff (with his firing), and that’s where his mind needs to be.” Reid said he had spoken with Bieniemy since Thursday, when UCLA let him go. “That’s a load to handle, just in itself,” Reid said. “So we’ll just leave it there.” Bieniemy was the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator from 2018-22, winning two Super Bowls with the team during that time. He also was the team’s running backs coach for the five seasons before that. On Thursday, Bieniemy’s agent, Jason Fletcher, released a statement saying Bieniemy’s focus was to coach in the pros next season. “The plan was always to return to the NFL in 2025,” Fletcher said, “and he’s looking forward to the opportunities ahead.” ©2024 The Kansas City Star. Trump “takes no position on the underlying merits of this dispute”, according to the submission. “Instead, he respectfully requests that the court consider staying the act’s deadline for divestment of January 19, 2025, while it considers the merits of this case.” This would permit permit the “incoming administration the opportunity to pursue a political resolution of the questions at issue in the case”, it added. Trump’s brief noted that he officially returns to the White House a day after the law banning TikTok takes effect, calling it “unfortunate timing” that “interferes” with the president-elect’s “ability to manage the United States’ foreign policy and to pursue a resolution to both protect national security and save a social-media platform that provides a popular vehicle for 170 million Americans to exercise their core First Amendment rights”. The filing further stated that Trump “has a particularly powerful interest in and responsibility for those national-security and foreign-policy questions” and that “he is the right constitutional actor to resolve the dispute through political means”. It asserted Trump “alone possesses the consummate deal-making expertise, the electoral mandate and the political will to negotiate a resolution to save the platform while addressing the national-security concerns”.Minnesota will try to bounce back from two straight losses when it hosts Bethune-Cookman on Sunday afternoon in Minneapolis. The Golden Gophers (5-3) are coming off a 57-51 loss against Wake Forest on Friday, which followed a 68-66 overtime loss against Wichita State on Thursday. Both games took place at the ESPN Events Invitational in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Minnesota coach Ben Johnson cited inconsistency on offense as the main reason for his team's recent skid. "We're painfully figuring that out," Johnson said. "I thought our defense, though, (Thursday and Friday) has proven this is a top-40 or top-30 defense. We've got to be able to show up with offense and free throws." Golden Gophers starter Lu'Cye Patterson said he and his teammates remain confident in their potential as the Big Ten conference season approaches. "We just have to keep doing what we're supposed to do and keep our level of defensive play up," Patterson said. "It's going to win us a lot of games. The offense is going to come." Bethune-Cookman (2-5) will try to play spoiler on the road. The Wildcats have split their past two games as they beat North Dakota 79-67 on Tuesday and lost to Gardner-Webb 79-64 on Wednesday, both games played in the Cancun Challenge in Cancun, Mexico.
