The Seminoles (2-9) convincingly snapped a six-game losing streak and ensured that the Buccaneers (1-11) would finish theirs on a 10-game skid. Florida State has not had much to celebrate during one of its worst seasons in program history. But on Saturday, the Seminoles overcame a rough start and put together one of their more complete efforts of the season. Florida State had not scored more than 21 points in a game prior to Saturday's contest and its 175 rushing yards more than doubled its average (80.5 per game) this season. No single runner had over 40 yards, but seven rushers combined for that output on 34 attempts. The Seminoles entered the game ranked 130th out of 133 FBS teams in rushing offense. Holmes, a senior, finished with three carries for 38 yards, including touchdown runs of 3 and 18 yards. Kromenhoek gave Florida State a sliver of hope for its quarterback future as he completed 13 of 20 passes for 209 yards and no interceptions. He threw TD passes for Amaree Williams, Ja'Khi Douglas and Hykeem Williams. The highlight was a 71-yard touchdown pass to Douglas on the first play from scrimmage of the second half to put the Seminoles ahead 24-0. Douglas finished with 82 yards receiving on three catches, and 10 different Florida State players caught passes for 240 total yards. The Seminoles went 6 of 10 on third downs after averaging only a 25 percent conversion rate all season. Their defense held Charleston Southern to 275 total yards (57 rushing) and forced two turnovers. Florida State was unable to hang on to the shutout, however, as Bucs quarterback Kaleb Jackson found Landon Sauers for a 7-yard touchdown pass with 57 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Jackson completed 22 of 32 passes for 218 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The Bucs defense recorded three sacks led by Davion Williams, who had eight tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack. The Seminoles will conclude their season next Saturday at home against rival Florida. --Field Level Media
The All Progressives Congress APC in Oyo state has condemned the alleged forceful take over of the structures housing public reading and learning facilities in Dugbe, Ibadan and their conversion into lock up shops and shopping malls by the state government describing the development as not only shameful and ill-conceived but also grossly unacceptable. Not a few residents of Ibadan- the state capital were stunned recently when they observed sudden erection of massive structures believed to be private business complexes and shopping malls within the premises of the Oyo State Library Board in which the the defunct Western Region government built public libraries and other facilities being put into premium use by students, researchers, tourists among others until now. In a statement issued at the weekend and made available to the journalists in Ibadan by its Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, Oyo APC also raised the alarm over another alleged ridiculous sale of the entire modern motor park facility at Wema Area on New Ife Road, Ibadan built by the administration of late Senator Abiola Ajimobi. Sources have it that the Park has been sold to a pastor who presides over a popular church situated very close to it. “It is a sad reality that the buildings which used to serve as public libraries and archive in Dugbe axis of Ibadan have now paved the way for the development of commercial and business structures and the implication of this is that education and research development have been relegated to the background in the state by the same administration which has refused to address the issue of poor reading culture among young students. “Without mincing words, the word ‘library’ is now strange to many students in public primary and secondary schools in Oyo state because a government does not care to build such facility or fix the existing ones which require good attention. How can a government wake up one day and convert public reading facilities and archives into lock up shops in the name of making money and thereby subject the entire society into the danger of illiteracy and ignorance? “It has also got to that stage when silence is no more golden as all well meaning individuals and stakeholders should begin to ask Gov. Makinde questions on why he keeps selling off public heritage and properties which his government inherited from previous administrations. In the same vein, we have had cases of fraudulent lease or concession of public facilities to proxies as it happened to OYSADEP Guest House in Saki and Agbowo Shopping Complex in Ibadan. “Sad enough, the ignoble activities of the governor and a few other characters around him as they involve mismanagement of land and others resources belonging to the state have paved the way for the surge in the cases of land grabbing in most parts of the state capital. Even there many cases of land grabbing involving some appointees of the governor, PDP lawmakers, serving local government officials and chieftains of the ruling party. Meanwhile, this trend has to stop now.” Oyo APC stated. What happens to Niagara residents released from jail and how do they avoid falling into what’s known as the reoffending cycle, where they reoffend and end up back behind bars? “The transition from jail to community has been extremely challenging for people,” said Dr. Karl Stobbe, REACH Niagara’s medical director. In many cases, Stobbe said people have told him they were dropped off at a homeless shelter after being released from jail, “with no supports, no follow up.” “And then everybody wonders why they get in trouble again.” Announced at a news conference in St. Catharines Friday, a new program aimed at helping people reintegrate after being released from prison is getting $3.5 million in federal funding. Regional Essential Access to Connected Healthcare (REACH) Niagara and Start Me Up Niagara jointly announced the program, while also announcing a new partnership between them that will move REACH Niagara’s administrative offices into the workspace in St. Catharines it shares with Start Me Up. The funding from Health Canada’s Substance Use and Addictions Program allows the organizations to launch the Transitions into Comprehensive Care program, providing support to help people reintegrate into the community after being released from prison, as well as people at risk of becoming involved in the justice system in Niagara. Stobbe said he didn’t know how much funding to expect before the announcement, and was shocked to learn it was $3.5 million. “We’ve been cash-starved for so long,” he said. Carolyn Dyer, REACH Niagara’s executive director, said the Health Canada funding is essential to the organization’s “ability to operate and grow and to meet this rising demand for service,” while also signals a new level of commitment needed to fight the opioid epidemic. Stobbe said the new program will have a significant impact. It follows a coroner’s inquest into recent overdose deaths at the Niagara Detention Centre which included recommendations related to people being released from jail, he said. “I’m really happy about those recommendations. I think it will really help push ahead with the work this initiative is going to do,” he said. “I think the funding will go a lot further because hopefully Niagara Detention Centre already has on their radar some of the things that they can do from their end, and we’ll be getting ready on the community side to make those things much more effective.” While Positive Living Niagara has led much of Niagara’s response to the opioid crisis, Talia Storm — director of the organization’s Street Works Services — welcomed the new REACH Niagara program. “We are elated about this program. It is absolutely filling a gap in our community,” she said. “At Positive Living, we often see folks who come out of the detention centre and end up right back in.” She said the risk of overdose deaths is also incredibly high when people are being released from prison, and this will hopefully fill that gap and ensure that people are supported as the reintegrate into the community. While announcing the funding, St. Catharines MP Chris Bittle said there’s growing frustration, anger and a loss of empathy related to the challenges communities are facing. Laura Dumas, executive director with Start Me Up Niagara speaks to St. Catharines MP Chris Bittle. Health Canada’s Substance Use and Addictions Program has provided $3.5 million to REACH Niagara and Start Me Up Niagara for a program aimed at helping people exiting the justice system and and those at risk of involvement in it. “I’ve been hearing a lot more from politicians who are ignoring public health solutions, who would close supervised injection sites, will step away from harm reduction to reflect that anger, to reflect the lack of empathy,” he said. “But it’s not going away. We can re-criminalize, we can throw people in jail, we can close down supervised injection sites and we can let people die. Unfortunately, that’s the talk of many politicians locally, provincially and federally.” Bittle said too many Canadians have lost their lives “because of this tragic public health crisis, and it is a public health crisis. The impacts are felt by family, friends, neighbours and communities.” “Despite the overwhelming nature of this crisis, you are still standing here — you’re still fighting for this and I want to be behind you to help fight,” Bittle said. REACH was also excited about finally having a home base after operating for some seven years without one. The organization has been operating clinics at partner organizations throughout the region, providing outreach services at homeless encampments and operating a mobile health clinic set up in a converted Mercedes Sprinter van, Stobbe said. The shared office at 211 Church St. is the first real home the organization has had, he said. After regularly holding meetings in coffee shops, Stobbe said it “will be really nice” to have a building to base operations from. Considering the work Stobbe and the team of medical professionals do, he said starting out without a permanent address made sense. “If our first thing was to try to get an office, it just would have been really uncomfortable if that was our priority,” he said. Start Me Up executive director Laura Dumas said the partnership between the two organizations made sense since they both serve the same marginalized groups. Laura Dumas, executive director with Start Me Up Niagara. “I believe the partnership can only make us stronger,” she said. “We complement each other.” Both organizations, she said, are striving to provide services to people with dignity and compassion. “What’s lacking is dignity. It’s that empathy. We’re hoping together that we can bring that back to the community,” Dumas said. Dyer said the organization has grown to offer 22 clinics in seven municipalities since its inception. But the need for those services is continuing to grow “at a rate that really is hard to fathom.” “There is a growing societal divide between the population at large and the equity deserving community that is widening,” Dyer said. “This division is social, economic, political and sadly at times found in what services that are available to each and every community member. This cannot stand or it will only get worse.”Imphal, November 24: Hours after announcing the resumption of regular classes in all educational institutions, including schools and universities from Monday, the education departments of the Manipur government on Sunday night ordered the closure of all the educational institutions in the five valley districts on Monday and Tuesday, officials said. SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A photojournalist who captured one of the most enduring images of World War II — the U.S. Marines raising the flag on the Japanese island of Iwo Jima — had a block in downtown San Francisco named for him Thursday. Joe Rosenthal, who died in 2006 at age 94, was working for The Associated Press in 1945 when he took the Pulitzer Prize-winning photo. After the war, he went to work as a staff photographer for the San Francisco Chronicle, and for 35 years until his retirement in 1981, he captured moments of city life both extraordinary and routine. Rosenthal photographed famous people for the paper, including a young Willie Mays getting his hat fitted as a San Francisco Giant in 1957, and regular people, including children making a joyous dash for freedom on the last day of school in 1965. The 600 block of Sutter Street, near downtown’s Union Square, became Joe Rosenthal Way after a short ceremony Thursday morning. The Marines Memorial Club, which sits on the block, welcomed the street’s new name. Aaron Peskin, who heads the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, welcomed the city's political elite, military officials and members of Rosenthal's family to toast the late photographer, who was born in Washington, D.C., to Russian Jewish immigrant parents. The famous photo became the centerpiece of a war bonds poster that helped raise $26 billion in 1945. Tom Graves, chapter historian for the USMC Combat Correspondents Association, which pushed for the street naming, said the image helped win the war. “But I’ve grown over the years to appreciate also his role as a San Francisco newspaper photographer who, as Supervisor Peskin says, went to work every day photographing the city where we all live, we all love,” he said. Graves and others said they look forward to tourists and locals happening upon the street sign, seeing Rosenthal's name for perhaps the first time, and then going online to learn about the photographer with the terrible eyesight but an eye for composition. Rosenthal never considered himself a wartime hero, just a working photographer lucky enough to document the courage of soldiers. When complimented on his Pulitzer Prize-winning photo, Rosenthal said: “Sure, I took the photo. But the Marines took Iwo Jima.”Advisors Asset Management Inc. increased its position in Kforce Inc. It really upset them.” His comments early last year caused such upset that Nestlé told staff Inside the Factory would no longer be welcome on its premises. Gregg Wallace's career to date Gregg Wallace has been a familiar face on TV for years now thanks to his role as a judge on MasterChef - but let's take a closer look at his career so far... Gregg Wallace left school at 15 and started his career working on a fruit and veg stall in London. In 1989, he started George Allan's Greengrocers, a company that grew to a turnover of £7.5 million. Gregg's experience in the world of fruit and veg lead to him co-hosting Veg Talk on BBC Radio 4 with Charlie Hicks for seven years. He then became the first host of Saturday Kitchen in 2002, a role he held for a year before being replaced by Antony Worrall Thompson in 2003. At the same time, Gregg presented a number of food-related TV specials, including Veg Out for the Discovery Channel. Gregg landed his most notable TV role as a co-presenter and judge on BBC's competitive cooking show MasterChef in 2005. He stars alongside John Torode. In 2010 Gregg pursued another life-long dream of opening a restaurant. He opened the establishment Wallace & Co. in Putney. Then, in 2012, he opened Gregg's Bar & Grill in a joint venture with the Bermondsey Square Hotel. Gregg then scored a hosting gig with the BBC, presenting the documentary Supermarket Secrets in August 2013. Unfortunately, times were tough for Gregg, and in the same month, it was reported that one of his companies, West Veg Limited, had folded, owing more than £500,000. In 2014, both of his restaurants folded, with Wallace & Co owing suppliers £150,000. However, his TV career continued to thrive, and in 2015 became the regularly host of the award-winning documentary food series Eat Well for Less? Gregg helmed the show for eight years before stepping away. He also competed on Strictly Come Dancing . Gregg then made Telly history again when he revived the BBC's historical game show Time Commanders. More recently, the celebrity chef has presented a number of travel programmes such as Big Weekends with Gregg Wallace, South Africa with Gregg Wallace, and the food mockumentary, Gregg Wallace: The British Miracle Meat . 7 Wallace outside his Kent home this week Credit: Paul Edwards 7 Wallace on Inside the Factory Credit: BBC 7 Wallace posted on Instagram thanking fans for their support Credit: Instagram / @greggawallace

Wander Franco's sex abuse trial has been postponed 5 months PUERTO PLATA, Dominican Republic (AP) — The trial against Tampa Bay Rays shortstop Wander Franco, who has been charged with sexually abusing a minor, sexual and commercial exploitation against a minor, and human trafficking, has been postponed until June 2, 2025. Dominican judge Yacaira Veras postponed the hearing Thursday at the request of prosecutors because of the absence of several key witnesses in the case. Franco’s lawyers asked the court to reconsider the postponement, arguing Franco must report to spring training in mid-February. The judge replied that Franco is obligated to continue with the trial schedule and his conditional release from detainment.Unfortunately, they’re still out there. While advances in technology bring us many benefits, they also provide new tools for scam artists, and the loss of personal and financial information continues to trend upward. BBB recommends adding the following “resolutions” to your goals for this year to help make your 2025 scam-free. “In this day and age, you can’t afford to make mistakes, “Mechele Agbayani Mills, President and CEO of BBB Serving Central East Texas said. “Taking preventive measures is well worth the time and effort to keep from becoming a victim.” BBB offers the following resolutions to help consumers prepare for a safe and scam-free 2025: Resolve to be cautious with email. Be wary of unsolicited emails from a person or a company. Remember, scammers can make emails look like they are from a legitimate business, government agency, or reputable organization (even BBB!). Never click on links or open attachments in unsolicited emails. – Resolve never to send money to strangers. If you haven't met a person face-to-face, don't send them money. This is especially true if the person asks you to transfer funds using a prepaid debit card or CashApp. Money sent to strangers in this way is untraceable, and once it is sent, there's no getting it back. Scammers will try to trick you into acting emotionally, so before making a move, think the situation through. – Resolve to research companies before making online payments, purchases and donations. Research the retailer before entering payment information. Confirm contact details, such as a valid address, web address, and phone number. Use extreme caution when considering businesses which operate solely through social media without credible credentials. – Resolve to use your best judgment when sharing personal information. Sharing sensitive personal information with scammers opens the door to identity theft. Never share financial information, birthdate, address, Social Security number, or Medicare number with an unsolicited caller. – Resolve to create strong, unique passwords for each account. Using strong, varied passwords across accounts makes it harder for fraudsters to access multiple accounts if one is compromised. – Resolve to enable multi-factor authentication. Adding this layer of security to accounts, especially those involving finances or personal data, greatly reduces the risk of unauthorized access. – Resolve to be social media smart. Use privacy settings on social media and only connect with people you know. Be careful about including personal information in your profile, and never reveal your address and other sensitive information. Scammers may use this information to make themselves pass as friends or relatives and earn your trust. Also, be careful when purchasing products you see on social media. BBB Scam Tracker has received thousands of complaints about misleading Facebook and Instagram ads. – Resolve to check your financial statements regularly. Committing to review bank and credit card statements can help catch unauthorized transactions early. – Resolve to educate yourself about the latest scams. Staying informed on emerging scams helps you recognize and avoid new fraud tactics. Stay up on the latest scams by subscribing to BBB Scam Alerts emails.
