Trailblazing Model Dayle Haddon Dies From Suspected Carbon Monoxide PoisoningBarkley's brilliance helps Eagles beat Panthers 22-16 but pass game has Philly frustratedMinnesotans’ generosity on this year’s Give to the Max Day surpassed the previous record by almost $3 million. It’s a pleasant surprise for Give MN’s executive director Jake Blumberg, who said he had concerns given the current divisive economic climate. “I think we all know right now that prices have been high at checkout lanes throughout our lives and nonprofits have been experiencing the same thing,” Blumberg said. “ And it seems to us that donors really recognized that and wanted to step up to help the organizations that help their neighbors.” ADVERTISEMENT In 2020, Give MN saw the state break $30 million in donations, and it’s been consistently increasing since then. Blumberg said this shows Minnesotans care deeply about one another and Give to the Max gives them a chance to find common ground. This year saw more donations than years before and in higher amounts. The average donation went from $117 over the last few years to $134. “Will that trend continue? We sure hope it does, because the need for support from donors is going to continue to be at historic levels,” he said. “We know the need has only grown since 2020 and it’s certainly anticipated to continue growing. So hopefully donors continue to meet that challenge.” Nationally, donation trends have plateaued, but Blumberg says Minnesota has been an outlier since the pandemic. “There have been multiple years now where other giving events, like Give to the Max Day and other giving trends around individual donors have showed declines, and Minnesota has bucked those national trends, and this is one of those years,” Blumberg said. Blumberg said people give based on their values. Compared to previous years, more contributions were made to organizations that prioritized direct and social services, in addition to hunger relief organizations and those supporting unsheltered people and animals.

BELMONT — A state grant will help Allegany County property owners renovate vacant spaces to improve the area’s rental apartment stock. State officials announced Belmont-based ACCORD Corp. will receive $750,000 to help with renovations under the Vacant Rental Improvement Program, administered by the state Housing Trust Fund Corporation’s Office of Community Renewal. State officials reported the aid is expected to help with the complete rehabilitation of 13 units in the county. “Everyone deserves a safe place to call home, and with the Vacant Rental Improvement Program, we’re breathing new life into dormant properties by turning them into high-quality homes for those in need,” Gov. Kathy Hochul said in the release. Statewide, $40 million has been allocated to revitalize up to 600 apartments, officials said, with up to $75,000 for renovations per unit. The focus is on affordable housing for households earning up to 80% of the Area Median Income. Renovations include fixing issues related to safety, accessibility, code violation correction and environmental remediation for toxic substances like lead and asbestos. In return for the aid, property owners will ensure the units will remain affordable for at least 10 years, with a focus on long-term stability for tenants. Local administrators are expected to open applications in early 2025. Owners of rental properties are encouraged to apply to bring vacant units and spaces in properties back to use with a focus on quality, affordable long-term units that are safe for residents. Applicants must be the owner of a 1-5 unit residential property, a mixed-use building with up to five units, or a building that will be converted into a residential or mixed-use property. Other recipients in the region include $2 million for the city of Jamestown, $953,460 for the city of Elmira, and over $10.6 million to assist property owners through several governments and nonprofits in Erie and Niagara counties. Police appeared to use pepper spray while trying to break up a wild postgame brawl between Ohio State and Michigan . The Fox Sports broadcast caught Wolverines Tavierre Dunlap and Jason Hewlett on the sideline with tearing eyes after apparently being pepper sprayed by police officers on the field. Multiple reports said pepper spray was used to de-escalate the skirmish after the Wolverines’ 13-10 upset of the No. 2 Buckeyes in Columbus, Ohio on Saturday. Other footage showed Michigan defensive lineman Mason Graham seemingly getting pepper sprayed amid the chaos. A third angle shows a police officer pepper-spraying a group of Ohio State players as they try to break up the skirmish. Sports Illustrated senior writer Pat Forde said he was caught in the crossfire. “Just got secondhand pepper sprayed,” Forde wrote on X . The brawl broke out moments after Michigan upset Ohio State as Wolverines players tried to plant their flag on the Buckeye’s logo at midfield. “I don’t know all the details of it, but I know these guys are looking to put a flag on our field and our guys weren’t not gonna let that happen,” Ohio State head coach Ryan Day said after the game. “I’ll find out exactly what happened, but this is our field. We certainly were embarrassed of the fact that we lost the game, but there’s some prideful guys on this team that weren’t just gonna let that happen.” Multiple players could be seen going at it as security, police and team staff tried to separate them. “For such a great game, you hate to see stuff like that after the game,” Michigan running back Kalel Mullings said. “That’s just bad for the sport, bad for college football. But at the end of the day, some people gotta learn how to lose. “You can’t be fighting and stuff just because you lost a game. All that fighting, we had 60 minutes, we had four quarters to do all that fighting. And now people want to talk and fight, that’s wrong. It’s just bad for the game. Classless, in my opinion. People gotta better.” The ugly scene went on for several minutes before tempers calmed. “Unnecessary gesture by the Wolverines,” Fox play-by-play man Gus Johnson said. “They won the game, no need to be disrespectful.”Southeast Asia salaries set for a 2025 bump, with Singapore lagging the region: ReportFormer Deputy National Security Adviser KT McFarland on rebels overthrowing the Assad regime in Syria and the role the U.S. should play in the conflict. Syria's future remains unclear after Islamist rebels toppled the Assad regime, seizing control of Damascus and driving the Syrian dictator out of the country. Foreign policy experts and officials alike reacted to the news on Sunday, speculating about what might be in store for the Middle East nation and the American forces residing there. "Who knows what's next?" former Deputy National Security Adviser K.T. McFarland asked. McFarland joined "Fox & Friends Weekend" to discuss the unrest. Like others, she suggested the change paints an uncertain picture. NETANYAHU HAILS ‘HISTORIC’ FALL OF BASHAR ASSAD IN SYRIA, CREDITS ISRAELI ATTACKS ON HEZBOLLAH, IRAN Syrian opposition fighters remove a government Syrian flag from an official building in Salamiyah, east of Hama, Syria, Saturday Dec. 7, 2024. (AP Photo/Ghaith Alsayed) "[Bashar Assad] was weak and incompetent, and he was propped up in governance in Syria by Iran and by Russia, by Russian forces, by Russian military equipment, by, in some sense, Iran's money, but they're preoccupied now... Iran is preoccupied because of what Israel did to Iran and Hezbollah and Russia is preoccupied because of Ukraine and a faltering economy, so those two guys propping up Assad, they're not, they were propping him up as well," she said. "But the [multiple] rebel groups got together, and they saw a moment of opportunity, and they moved into Syria... and President Trump is so right to say, ‘let it play out. This is not our fight.’ I'm just sorry we have 900 American forces in that country because who knows? Are they sitting targets? Are they potential hostages? What's their role going to be? We don't know." SYRIAN DICTATOR BASHAR ASSAD FLEES INTO EXILE AS ISLAMIST REBELS CONQUER COUNTRY Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., also weighed in on Sunday, offering a message of caution and concern. "We have to realize there are no good guys in this. These rebels are connected to al-Qaeda. We know that Iran is going to lose supply lines to Hezbollah. We know that Russia is losing access to a warm weather port, and we need to make certain that we support Israel," she said. Dan Hoffman, former CIA station chief, warned that the development poses a "widely complex challenge" to U.S. national security that awaits the Trump administration when the president-elect assumes office next month. "The concern I think that we would have going forward is the potential for a power vacuum here. We saw this in Iraq and in Libya and terrorists take advantage of that, and the concern I think we have is that potentially terrorists may be flocking to Syria right now, seeking to take advantage of just that," he explained. "We also have a real challenge there because state actors like Russia and Iran, formerly allied with Syria. Remember, Russia has a naval base in Tartus. They are not going to be on the side of solving this problem with us. We've got real challenges with them as well, so gaining some kind of international consensus on the way forward is also a major challenge." ISLAMIST REBELS IN SYRIA CATCH ASSAD, PUTIN, IRAN REGIMES OFF GUARD GIVING US NEW MIDEAST HEADACHE President-elect Donald Trump also weighed in shortly after the news broke, posting on Truth Social. "Assad is gone," he wrote. "He has fled his country. His protector, Russia, Russia, Russia, led by Vladimir Putin, was not interested in protecting him any longer. There was no reason for Russia to be there in the first place. They lost all interest in Syria because of Ukraine, where close to 600,000 Russian soldiers lay wounded or dead, in a war that should never have started, and could go on forever." "Russia and Iran are in a weakened state right now, one because of Ukraine and a bad economy, the other because of Israel and its fighting success," h econtinued. "Likewise, Zelenskyy and Ukraine would like to make a deal and stop the madness. They have ridiculously lost 400,000 soldiers, and many more civilians. There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations should begin." CLICK HERE TO GET THE FOX NEWS APP Taylor Penley is an associate editor with Fox News.
