More info The increasing burden to employers in the form of national insurance was discussed in a motion at the final North Lanarkshire Council meeting of 2024. With the UK Government’s October budget increasing employer contributions to 15 per cent, and reducing earning thresholds, SNP councillor for Kilsyth Denis Johnston presented a motion at full council. This highlighted that the council faced an additional cost of around £11 million which was likely to impact many organisations including those providing education, health and social care services, while the total cost in Scotland would be in the region of £750 million. The council’s SNP group tabled an amendment from finance convener Andrew Duffy-Lawson (Motherwell North) who thanked the SNP for bringing this debate to the meeting. He then praised the UK Labour government for making record investment in Scotland, promising a prosperous future for its residents with the largest payment to the Scottish Government since devolution began and a pay increase for the lowest paid. However he added that investment requires funding, then highlighted the SNP’s track record of rejecting tax raising measures without proposing viable alternatives. Referring to his own experience working in the charity sector, he acknowledged that the changes to national insurance would create a burden but the services highlighted in the motion depended on well funded public services, before highlighting assurances from the Chancellor that support would be in place to assist with the increased national insurance. In the final vote of the year, the amendment won out over the motion with 34 votes to 23 with seven abstentions. *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire. Aberdeen manager Jimmy Thelin says his side cannot afford to be fooled by Hibernian’s lowly position in the Premiership this season. The Hibees are bottom of the Scottish Premiership with one win from their opening 13 league games, while the Dons are looking to bounce back from their first loss of the league season – when they travel to Easter Road on Tuesday. Thelin knows Hibs are under pressure at the foot of the table, but believes focusing on the league standings would be a mistake for his side. The Dons boss said: “You see the quality of the individual players, how they can be one against one. They are at a really high level. “I think it will be difficult. “If you watch the table, you can think one thing – but I think that’s a big mistake. “They are a good team and they have strong individual players, so we have to be really sharp tomorrow. “I think it is better to focus on what we can do. “I don’t know how they are going to prepare themselves... maybe they use this run to also try to be better. “For us, it is more important what we do and (that we) don’t think about their situation. “Hibernian have created some really good opportunities inside the game, then some goals have gone against them, but I still think it’s a good team. “I know their manager is probably a really hard worker and they are going to try to find solutions. “The most important thing for me is how we want to act.” Thelin surprised by Hibees’ plight The Dons boss is surprised to see Hibs struggling at the bottom of the division, but insists the Leith outfit can still turn their fortunes around. When asked if he was surprised at Hibernian’s poor start, Thelin said: “Yeah, but the season is not over yet. “It happens also in Sweden sometimes. We have some clubs there that have been really big clubs, but you get in this (poor) period and then how you get out of them is the most important thing. “So football, that’s why it’s a so passionate sport because it’s really complex sometimes how you can get stable over some years and it takes time to build a consistency that can be good every year. “When you’re building sometimes you can take some steps backwards and then you get two steps forward. “I don’t know Hibernian as a club – I don’t know the people who work there. I don’t know so much about it.” Thelin’s focus is on Aberdeen as Hibs’ David Gray feels heat It has been a season of surprises in Scottish football’s top-flight so far – with the Dons second in the table, while Hibs, Hearts and Kilmarnock make up the bottom three. Thelin, however, claims his focus has been solely on his own team. He said: “I didn’t put the teams in specific order before the season starts, but I know they are a well-run club and they want to achieve things. “But I didn’t think so much about if this team was going to arrive here or if this was going to be a challenge. “I just focused on my first year in Scotland and in this league and the first month in this club. “Of course, they hired me for some reason and what is my belief and how can I share this with the club and the identity the club already has; and try to build something strong from this point of view. “I don’t think it’s much about the other teams.” While the Aberdeen manager has paid little more than a glance towards Hibs, Thelin is sorry to see Hibs boss David Gray under pressure at Easter Road. He said: “For me, it’s always humans and that’s our job and the world is what it is – but I always try to respect them. “I’s always difficult when things get tough, but hopefully I’m sure he has a good team surrounding around him and focus on the right things.”Published 5:40 pm Thursday, November 21, 2024 By Data Skrive Ranked teams will be on Friday’s college basketball schedule for four games, including the Oklahoma Sooners playing the UNLV Rebels. Cavs' Jarrett Allen: 'So Happy I Got My Meme' from Infamous Lights Too Bright Quote
Charlotte Chilton has claimed her The Traitors co-star Harry Clark has blanked her since she announced she was pregnant. The 32-year-old reality star - who was one of the faithfuls in season 2 of the BBC's game show about deception, but got caught out before the final - revealed earlier this year that she was expecting a baby with pop sensation Conor Maynard. Charlotte was on the same season of The Traitors as 22-year-old Harry - who played as one of the Traitors and successfully won the show, scooping the cash prize. But since announcing she was expecting a child with Can't Say No singer Conor, 32, Charlotte has claimed Harry has cut all contact with her. Charlotte and Conor welcomed their daughter last month, with the reality star left overjoyed by the arrival of her bundle of joy. Speaking to OK! Magazine, however, Charlotte has claimed that Harry cut her from his life over her happiness. She said: "That was a real kick in the teeth. The guy stopped speaking to me practically the second I told Conor I was pregnant. I guess the 'bro code' kicked in. And we all know, thanks to the show, that he has a 'bro code'." Charlotte continued: "To say I felt devastated would be an understatement. Harry and I were thick as thieves; he was the link to meeting Conor initially, but now there’s Penelope, for whom I’m thankful." It has been reported that Conor has yet to meet - or publicly acknowledge - the daughter he and Charlotte created together. Harry is said to be a close friend of the singer and introduced her to him, sparking a chain of events that resulted in the arrival of a baby girly just last month. Charlotte announced the arrival of her daughter via social media on 18 October. She wrote online: "Princess Penelope has arrived and we have been enjoying our ‘Penelope bubble’ so much,I am going to be off the radar for a little longer, whilst I enjoy these magical moments with my precious girl!! Thank you to all that have checked in to make sure I am ok!! my heart is full." Discussing her brief romance with Conor, Charlotte previously told The Sun: “We had a great night together and even sent Harry a selfie of us in bed saying, ‘Successful match’. We kept in touch, confided in each other and planned to meet up. But after I told him I was pregnant that apparently decent man changed. “He turned on me, I felt pressured into keeping his identity as the father a secret. He told me, ‘I’m not ready to be a dad. It’s nothing against you, Charlotte, but even if we’d been together three years, I would be the exact same. I do not want to have a child. That’s why I haven’t got a dog’." More info The Royal Family are known for their funny trend of buying one another comical gifts at Christmas time - but the late Queen did often use a different method to do her shopping, according to one former royal insider. When it comes to buying gifts for the people who have everything, what do you choose? Despite it likely being a challenge, only the best would do for Queen Elizabeth's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. So much so, that the late monarch introduced an unbelievably clever method to get her Christmas shopping done without leaving the comfort of her own home. The brilliant story was revealed by former royal butler, Paul Burrell. While the late Queen and the Royal Family are known to buy one another amusing gifts, the monarch had another rather unusual method to do her shopping which was explained by Diana, Princess of Wales' former butler, Paul. He told Closer magazine: "Firstly, she has catalogues sent to her, and then the Oxford Street branch of John Lewis sends her a selection of almost everything they stock. There is a little ‘shop’ set up in the drawing room at Windsor Castle and the Queen can pop in and choose gifts at her leisure. Late at night, after dinner, usually around 10pm, she’ll pop into her little Christmas shop and do some shopping. “The Queen always chooses practical gifts that can be used – never ornaments or decorative things. So she might pick some picnic plates, a tablecloth, or a couple of hand towels. Then they are wrapped up and a truckload of presents are ready to go to Sandringham.” While a personal shop in Windsor Castle is impressive enough, another incredible revelation about the monarch's shopping habits were revealed by former Lady-in-Waiting and close friend to the monarch, Lady Anne Glenconner in her book Lady in Waiting: My Extraordinary Life in the Shadow of the Crown . She explained that during a royal tour to Sydney in 1975 with Princess Margaret, Australian diplomat Sir Roden Cutler VC was surprised at the princess’s request to go shopping. “I didn’t think the Royal Family went shopping,” he said. “I represent the Queen and I have never heard of her going shopping.” Correcting him, Lady Glenconner responded, “Actually, the Queen goes shopping. She recently went to Harrods to choose some Christmas presents. My mother is a Lady of the Bedchamber and she went with her.” When the time to exchange gifts comes around, the royals have their own twist which dates back to something started by the late Queen’s great-great-grandmother, Queen Victoria. The royals follow the traditional German festive custom of opening presents on Christmas Eve. Royal expert Robert Jobson told The Express in 2021: “On Christmas Eve when all the clan are together, the Queen's grandchildren and great-grandchildren put the finishing touches to the 20ft Christmas tree in the White Drawing Room. "Presents will be opened that day at tea time as the royals still keep to the German practice of opening their gifts on Christmas Eve. Gifts are laid out in the Red Drawing Room on a white linen-covered trestle table, with cards marking exactly where the piles of gifts should be put. "Once everyone has arrived, the royal guests enjoy a traditional Christmas that includes putting the finishing touches on the Christmas tree and the giving of cheap and humorous gifts."Content creator Andrew "Big Boom AJ" Befumo didn't let an injury stop him from performing in a match against AEW wrestler Q.T. Marshall at AEW Full Gear in New Jersey on Saturday night. According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, Befumo suffered a broken foot before his match with Marshall but kept it quiet and still worked the match, where he got a victory alongside his 11-year-old son, Big Justice, and viral sensation The Rizzler. Sapp noted that Befumo was seen walking on crutches after the event, and it was initially believed that he suffered the injury during the match. According to ESPN's Arda Orcal , Befumo previously worked as an independent professional wrestler under the name "the American Powerchild Eric Justice." When asked during the Full Gear post-show media scrum if he would wrestle again, Befumo said, "I love it here [in AEW]. I loved every minute of this.
