It was a weird game in the NFC East as the Dallas Cowboys took down the Washington Commanders on a 34-26 showdown that was straight up wild. There were a lot of mistakes on both sides, particularly on special teams, and some explosive plays in crunch time. Be it Terry McLaurin's 89-touchdown catch or KaVontae Turpin's insane 99-yard kickoff return, a lot happened for a game that was 3-3 at the half. Below are the biggest takeaways from the Cowboys win, the first since October 6th for America's Team. Tyler Guyton's penalties scrap what could've been a decent game As far as his blocking goes, Guyton was pretty decent on Sunday, particularly in the first half. On Cooper Rush's touchdown pass to Jalen Tolbert in the third quarter, Guyton put together an exemplary rep in pass protection working on an island against a Commanders DE that had no shot. Guyton https://t.co/6j8iSe0eg6 Later in the game, he was called for an offensive holding that was most likely a mistake from the ref as Guyton didn't appear to be holding when watching the replay. However, it's the mental mistakes that led to the first-round rookie heading to the bench. Guyton was called for two illegal formation fouls, one of which probably killed a very promising drive, and a false start. It just can't happen. The rookie has to be better or these concerns will carry on to 2025 and beyond. Based on the staff's decision to sit Guyton at times on this game, there should be questions about his role moving forward even if playing time seems to be the obvious call for his long-term development. Cooper Rush probably secured the starting role today I'm not pretending Cooper Rush had a fantastic game today, but he did what he was asked to do: He completed 75% of his pass attempts and didn't' turn the ball over. He was given clean pockets to work with and he delivered passing for 247 yards and two touchdowns. This felt like a big game for Rush with a Thanksgiving game ahead with low, low, ticket prices . But he might've bought himself some time and it's not looking like he'll be benched by Trey Lance any time soon. Speaking of which... The Trey Lance packages are a problem Before the Cowboys' go-ahead touchdown in the third quarter, Trey Lance went in on first-and-goal in an effort to use his legs in a goal-to-go situation, something the coaching staff had teased since earlier in the week. The problem with these plays is that once Lance goes in, everyone on the defense can see it coming: The Cowboys are trying to get the quarterback to run the ball. That's not necessarily a deal breaker but you better have execution cleaned up if you're going to run this type of plays. In this case, TE Luke Schoonmaker missed a key block and there was nothing left to do. If the Cowboys are going to continue to play Lance in such spots, they gotta be ready to execute. Later in the game, Lance entered in the fourth quarter at the Commanders' 35-yard line for one snap, in which he handed the ball off to CeeDee Lamb for a one-yard gain. He was immediately taken off the field after the one snap. Perhaps it'd be in their best interest to give him a true package of plays where he can be more unpredictable. There are way too many issues on special teams Although KaVontae Turpin's touchdown was straight up epic, we've got to talk about John Fassel's special teams unit. One field goal block and another miss could've proved very costly on this game. Add to that a blocked punt and the Cowboys simply gotta tighten it up. They're already dealing with enough trouble on offense and defense and special teams can't be another obstacle on the way of winning ballgames. This was partially offset by a decrease in ounces sold of 43,273 for the three months ended October 31, 2024 compared to 50,573 ounces sold in the same period in 2023. Consolidated AISC decreased by 5% for the nine months ended October 31, 2024 compared to the same period in 2023. This decrease was mainly attributed to lower sustaining capital and reduced mining costs per ounce sold at Bibiani, as a result of decreased waste mining earlier in the year. In the three and nine months ended October 31, 2024, ore mined decreased 57% and 27% compared to the same periods in 2023 primarily due to fleet availability issues caused by funding constraints. Gold equivalent ounces produced was 12,309 in the three months ended October 31, 2024, compared to 16,459 in the same period of 2023, and decreased to 47,945 in the nine months ended October 31, 2024, from 53,811 in the same period of 2023. This decrease was mainly due to the lower feed grade of plant feed, including the low-grade stockpile draw, and a higher proportion of sulphide ore processed without the benefit of a sulphide treatment plant, which continues to limit gold recovery. Construction of the Company’s sulphide treatment plant is underway, and is scheduled for completion in the first half of 2025, contingent on the availability of sufficient funding. AISC increased to $3,115 per ounce in the three months ended October 31, 2024, compared to $1,884 per ounce in the same period of 2023, primarily due to elevated stripping requirements and lower grade ore processed. AISC decreased to $2,286 per ounce in the nine months ended October 31, 2024, compared to $2,588 per ounce in the same period of 2023, driven by lower sustaining capital resulting from decreased waste mining requirements earlier in the year. For the fiscal year ending January 31, 2025, the Company expects production of 52,500 to 57,500 gold equivalent ounces. For fiscal year ending January 31, 2026, the Company plans to execute on its growth strategy which includes: External financing will be required in order to execute this growth strategy. Higher ore grades and increased ore processed contributed to increased gold equivalent ounces produced to 32,964 ounces in the three months ended October 31, 2024 from 30,076 ounces in the same period of 2023. Reduced grade during the nine months ended October 31, 2024 resulted in a decline in gold equivalent ounces produced to 97,687 ounces in the nine months ended October 31, 2024 from 101,721 ounces in the same period of 2023. AISC increased to $2,031 per ounce in the three months ended October 31, 2024, compared to $1,846 per ounce in the same period of 2023, and to $1,905 per ounce in the nine months ended October 31, 2024, compared to $1,892 per ounce in the same period of 2023. This increase was primarily driven by lower gold equivalent ounces sold, higher maintenance costs and higher sustaining capital expenditures in the current reporting period. CINCINNATI (AP) — The Cincinnati Bengals have found all manner of ways to lose close games this season. Sunday's can be blamed on a defense that missed tackles and allowed 520 yards of offense, and three turnovers by Joe Burrow. It's become a familiar story in this disappointing season. Cincinnati (4-8) keeps scoring lots of points but can't close out games. Seven of the Bengals’ eight losses this year have been by one score. Burrow has stopped talking about the possibility of going on a run and making the playoffs. He'd just like to win another game or two. “Playoffs are the furthest thing from my mind,” the fifth-year quarterback said. “You never know what can happen, so I’ll keep putting one foot in front of the other and try to be the best player I can be for the rest of the season, week in and week out.” The Bengals allowed Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson to throw for a season-high 414 yards and three touchdowns. After Wilson threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown, the Steelers (9-3) scored on seven of their last nine possessions. They didn't punt until early in the fourth quarter. Burrow lost two fumbles and threw an interception. “We haven’t done enough to earn the win,” coach Zac Taylor said. “It’s a simple as that. It’s nobody else’s fault but our own. We haven’t earned it.” What’s working Turnovers aside, Burrow had another strong game, finishing with 28 for 38 for 309 yards with three touchdowns. Burrow is having a great season statistically, and he hasn't hidden his disappointment and frustration about Cincinnati's narrow losses. ... WR Ja'Marr Chase had a touchdown catch to bring his league-leading total to 13. What needs help The defense missed tackles and couldn't hold off the Steelers, even with Burrow keeping the game close. It didn’t help that LB Logan Wilson (knee) and DT Sheldon Rankins (illness) had to sit out. The Bengals have allowed 34 or more points six times, including in four of the past five games. Cincinnati became the first NFL team to lose four games in a season in which it scored 33 points or more. Stock up RB Chase Brown has been dependable as the featured back since Zack Moss went down with a neck injury. He rushed for 70 yards and a touchdown against the Steelers. He also had three catches for 30 yards. The second-year back has 677 yards rushing and six TDs. “He’s really coming along, improving his game every single week,” Burrow said. “Pass game, run game, running hard, understanding his protection responsibilities. He’s a guy that practices hard, plays hard, and a guy you can count on.” Stock down The Bengals' coaching staff. Something has got to give. There was no excuse for the defense to play this badly after a bye week. The unit gave up 500-plus yards for the second time this season. Injuries None were reported in the game. Key number 30.3 — The average points per game by the Bengals against teams with a .500 or better record this season. They are 0-7 in those games.
