CIT Wins CES 2025 Innovation Award for Transparent Antenna Revolutionary Transparent Antenna with Ultra-Thin Copper Circuit Technology SEOUL, South Korea , Dec. 23, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- CIT Co. Ltd., a leading startup in advanced materials, has been awarded the CES 2025 Innovation Award in the Vehicle Tech & Advanced Mobility category for its revolutionary transparent antenna, "Dolphin." Inspired by a dolphin's ability to detect a wide range of frequencies, Dolphin represents a groundbreaking innovation in the field, supporting the broadest range of frequencies among transparent antennas. Meeting the Needs of Next-Generation Vehicles The automotive industry is rapidly transforming with autonomous driving technologies and the rise of Software Defined Vehicles (SDVs), often described as "smartphones on wheels." These advancements demand fast and reliable data transmission, yet existing transparent antennas are limited in frequency range and application. CIT's Dolphin addresses these challenges with a design that combines unparalleled performance and flexibility. Dolphin operates across six frequency bands, from L-band to K-band, and supports frequencies up to 20 GHz, making it uniquely suited for 5G communication. Its exceptional frequency coverage significantly surpasses that of conventional antennas, meeting the needs of modern connected vehicles. Transparency and Sustainability at Its Core Dolphin achieves an extraordinary 90% transparency using ultra-thin copper circuits less than 10 nanometers thick—1,000 times thinner than a human hair. This innovative design ensures the antenna is virtually invisible when integrated into car windows or other glass surfaces. In contrast, traditional antennas rely on copper circuits 5 to 10 micrometers thick, which cannot match Dolphin's sleek and flexible design. In line with CIT's commitment to sustainability, Dolphin is manufactured using recycled copper wires, reducing its carbon footprint to just 1/1000th of that of traditional antennas. This eco-friendly approach supports CIT's goal of environmentally responsible production. Expanding Applications Beyond Vehicles Dolphin's potential extends far beyond automotive applications. It can be utilized in smart building windows, streetlights, and bus stop glass panels, enabling innovative solutions for urban infrastructure. Additionally, CIT's advanced material technology has been applied to create transparent displays. These displays use ultra-thin copper circuits that are invisible to the human eye, delivering a clear and seamless viewing experience. Transparent displays are increasingly popular in digital signage, exhibition halls, commercial spaces, and transportation systems such as cars, buses, and trains. Showcasing Innovation at CES 2025 CIT will present its award-winning transparent antenna, Dolphin, alongside its transparent display technology at CES 2025 in Las Vegas . Visitors can experience these innovations firsthand at the Venetian Expo, Halls A-D, Booth #50769. JERUSALEM — The ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon’s Hezbollah militants began early Wednesday as a region on edge wondered whether it will hold. The ceasefire announced Tuesday is a major step toward ending nearly 14 months of fighting sparked by the ongoing war in Gaza between Israel and Hamas. Israel said it will attack if Hezbollah breaks the ceasefire agreement. The ceasefire calls for an initial two-month halt to fighting and requires Hezbollah to end its armed presence in southern Lebanon, while Israeli troops are to return to their side of the border. An international panel led by the United States will monitor compliance. The ceasefire began at 4 a.m. Wednesday, a day after Israel carried out its most intense wave of airstrikes in Beirut since the start of the conflict that in recent weeks turned into all-out war. At least 42 people were killed in strikes across the country, according to local authorities. Smoke rises following an Israeli airstrike on Dahiyeh, in Beirut, Lebanon, Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024. The ceasefire does not address the devastating war in Gaza , where Hamas is still holding dozens of hostages and the conflict is more intractable. There appeared to be lingering disagreement over whether Israel would have the right to strike Hezbollah if it believed the militants had violated the agreement, something Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu insisted was part of the deal but which Lebanese and Hezbollah officials have rejected. Israel's security Cabinet approved the U.S.-France-brokered ceasefire agreement after Netanyahu presented it, his office said. U.S. President Joe Biden, speaking in Washington, called the agreement “good news” and said his administration would make a renewed push for a ceasefire in Gaza. The Biden administration spent much of this year trying to broker a ceasefire and hostage release in Gaza but the talks repeatedly sputtered to a halt . President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to bring peace to the Middle East without saying how. Still, any halt to the fighting in Lebanon is expected to reduce the likelihood of war between Israel and Iran, which backs both Hezbollah and Hamas and exchanged direct fire with Israel on two occasions earlier this year. In this screen grab image from video provide by the Israeli Government Press Office, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu makes a televised statement Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024, in Jerusalem, Israel. Netanyahu presented the ceasefire proposal to Cabinet ministers after a televised address in which he listed accomplishments against Israel’s enemies across the region. He said a ceasefire with Hezbollah would further isolate Hamas in Gaza and allow Israel to focus on its main enemy, Iran. “If Hezbollah breaks the agreement and tries to rearm, we will attack,” he said. “For every violation, we will attack with might.” The ceasefire deal calls for a two-month initial halt in fighting and would require Hezbollah to end its armed presence in a broad swath of southern Lebanon, while Israeli troops would return to their side of the border. Thousands of additional Lebanese troops and U.N. peacekeepers would deploy in the south, and an international panel headed by the United States would monitor compliance. Biden said Israel reserved the right to quickly resume operations in Lebanon if Hezbollah breaks the terms of the truce, but that the deal "was designed to be a permanent cessation of hostilities.” A police bomb squad officer inspects the site where a rocket fired from Lebanon landed in a backyard in Kiryat Shmona, northern Israel, Tuesday Nov. 26, 2024. Netanyahu’s office said Israel appreciated the U.S. efforts in securing the deal but “reserves the right to act against every threat to its security.” Lebanon’s caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati welcomed the ceasefire and described it as a crucial step toward stability and the return of displaced people. Hezbollah has said it accepts the proposal, but a senior official with the group said Tuesday it had not seen the agreement in its final form. “After reviewing the agreement signed by the enemy government, we will see if there is a match between what we stated and what was agreed upon by the Lebanese officials,” Mahmoud Qamati, deputy chair of Hezbollah’s political council, told the Al Jazeera news network. “We want an end to the aggression, of course, but not at the expense of the sovereignty of the state," he said, referring to Israel's demand for freedom of action. “Any violation of sovereignty is refused.” Rescuers and residents search for victims Tuesday, Nov. 26, 2024, at the site of an Israeli airstrike that targeted a building in Beirut, Lebanon. Even as ceasefire efforts gained momentum in recent days, Israel continued to strike what it called Hezbollah targets across Lebanon while the militants fired rockets, missiles and drones across the border. An Israeli strike on Tuesday leveled a residential building in central Beirut — the second time in recent days warplanes have hit the crowded area near downtown. At least seven people were killed and 37 wounded, according to Lebanon's Health Ministry. Israel also struck a building in Beirut's bustling commercial district of Hamra for the first time, hitting a site around 400 meters (yards) from Lebanon’s Central Bank. There were no reports of casualties. The Israeli military said it struck targets linked to Hezbollah's financial arm. The evacuation warnings covered many areas, including parts of Beirut that previously were not targeted. Residents fled. Traffic was gridlocked, with mattresses tied to some cars. Dozens of people, some wearing pajamas, gathered in a central square, huddling under blankets or standing around fires as Israeli drones buzzed overhead. Israeli military spokesman Avichay Adraee issued evacuation warnings for 20 buildings in Beirut's southern suburbs, where Hezbollah has a major presence, as well as a warning for the southern town of Naqoura where the U.N. peacekeeping mission, UNIFIL, is headquartered. UNIFIL spokesperson Andrea Tenenti said peacekeepers will not evacuate. Israeli soldiers inspect the site Tuesday Nov. 26, 2024, where a rocket fired from Lebanon landed in a backyard in Kiryat Shmona, northern Israel. The Israeli military also said its ground troops clashed with Hezbollah forces and destroyed rocket launchers in the Slouqi area on the eastern end of the Litani River, a few kilometers (miles) from the Israeli border. Under the ceasefire deal, Hezbollah is required to move its forces north of the Litani, which in some places is about 30 kilometers (20 miles) north of the border. Hezbollah began firing into northern Israel on Oct. 8, 2023, saying it was showing support for the Palestinians, a day after Hamas carried out its attack on southern Israel, triggering the Gaza war. Israel returned fire on Hezbollah, and the two sides have exchanged barrages ever since. Israel escalated its bombardment in mid-September and later sent troops into Lebanon, vowing to put an end to Hezbollah fire so tens of thousands of evacuated Israelis could return to their homes. Israeli security officers and army soldiers inspect the site Tuesday Nov. 26, 2024, where a rocket fired from Lebanon landed in a backyard in Kiryat Shmona, northern Israel. More than 3,760 people have been killed by Israeli fire in Lebanon the past 13 months, many of them civilians, according to Lebanese health officials. The bombardment has driven 1.2 million people from their homes. Israel says it has killed more than 2,000 Hezbollah members. Hezbollah fire has forced some 50,000 Israelis to evacuate in the country’s north, and its rockets have reached as far south in Israel as Tel Aviv. At least 75 people have been killed, more than half of them civilians. More than 50 Israeli soldiers have died in the ground offensive in Lebanon. The North Carolina Tar Heels announced on Tuesday that Mack Brown would not return in the 2025 season. Brown is the all-time winningest coach in program history (113 wins) and will be coaching his final regular season game on Saturday as North Carolina faces North Carolina State. It's quite a shocking turn of events, especially since Brown mentioned on Monday that he expected to be back in 2025 . However, a new detail emerged regarding Mack's firing, per Andrew Carter of The News & Observer. 'From a well-connected UNC source: Mack Brown was "given the chance to announce he was stepping down. Turned it down." Certainly explains the mechanics of the timing, and Brown's insistence Monday that he planned to be back.' © Eric Canha-Imagn Images Per the official release , North Carolina Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham informed Brown on Monday that he would not come back in 2025. "Director of Athletics Bubba Cunningham on Monday informed Brown, who coached UNC from 1988-97 and then returned to Chapel Hill in Nov., 2018, that he will not return as head coach," the statement read. That came just hours after Brown spoke to reporters and said "Yes" when asked about his intentions to come back. UNC coach Mack Brown asked if it is his intention to return next season. "Yes." Says his focus is on NC State and that he hasn't spoken with AD Bubba Cunningham, which they will do after the season. To summarize, Brown was given the chance to step down, turned it down, stated that he intended to be back next season, and then ended up being fired in a matter of a few days. Now, North Carolina is searching for a new coach, and Brown's final home game in Chapel Hill will take place on Saturday. The Cincinnati Bearcats men's basketball team has gotten off to a fast start this season in more ways than one. The No. 16 Bearcats have raced to a 5-0 record while outscoring their opponents by more than 31 points per game, with just one team (Northern Kentucky) coming within 16 points. Cincinnati is averaging a robust 87 points per game with one of the more efficient offenses in college basketball. Cincinnati will look to continue that hot streak when it plays host to Alabama State in nonconference action Wednesday evening. Cincinnati has punished opposing defenses in a variety of ways this season. Despite being the No. 14 offense in the nation in Ken Pomeroy's efficiency ratings, the Bearcats aren't among the nation's leaders in pace. Still, they take advantage of those opportunities when they are there. "Us playing fast is something we want to do," Cincinnati forward Dillon Mitchell said. "When I was being recruited here, that was something Coach (Wes) Miller wanted to do. "There could be games where we're not making shots or something is off, but one thing is we're gonna push the ball, play hard and play fast. That's something he preaches. We'll be in shape and get rebounds." Mitchell is fresh off a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds in Cincinnati's 81-58 road win at Georgia Tech Saturday. He is one of four Bearcats to average double figures in scoring this season. That balance was on display once again against the Yellow Jackets, with Connor Hickman and Jizzle James also scoring 14 points each and Simas Lukosius contributing 12 points. In that game, Cincinnati sank 51.6 percent of its shots while regularly getting out into transition with 16 fastbreak points, while winning the rebounding battle 36-29. "Any time you get a road win over a quality, Power 4 team, you're gonna feel good about it," Miller said. "I was pleased with our effort." Lukosius is scoring 16.6 points per game, while James is at 14.0 points, followed by Mitchell at 12.4, while he also grabs a team-best 8.6 rebounds. Alabama State (3-3) has a tough task ahead, especially when considering its 97-78 loss at Akron Sunday, which ended a three-game winning streak. The Hornets allowed the Zips to shoot 46.4 percent from the field and were 53-32 in the rebounding battle. Alabama State gave up a season high in points, after playing the likes of LSU and UNLV earlier this season. Akron standout Nate Johnson lit up Alabama State for 25 points, as the game got away from the Hornets in the second half to keep them winless in true road games. Alabama leading scorers CJ Hines and TJ Madlock still got theirs against Akron, scoring 19 and 17 points, respectively. They were joined in double figures by reserve Tyler Mack (18 points), but recent history says they'll need more help to keep up with the Bearcats. Hines leads the Hornets with 15.7 points per game, while Madlock contributes 14.5 points. In previous Akron Basketball Classic wins last week against Omaha and Lamar, Alabama State featured at least four double-digit scorers in each game. --Field Level MediaCBS filed a countersuit on Tuesday against Sony , accusing the company of concocting a false pretext in order to back out of its decades-old distribution deal for “ Wheel of Fortune ” and “ Jeopardy !” Sony sued CBS last month, alleging that CBS had failed to get top dollar for the two game shows and had engaged in self-dealing. In response, CBS argued that Sony is simply trying to renege on a 42-year-old contract, after CBS rejected Sony’s nine-figure offer to buy out the deal. “Sony is attempting to obtain in court what it could not get at the bargaining table: the rights to the Series for free, by finding any excuse it can muster,” the countersuit states. “Wheel of Fortune” and “Jeopardy!” were initially produced by Merv Griffin Enterprises and syndicated by King World. Sony inherited the shows when it acquired MGE; CBS took over distribution responsibilities when it bought King World. Sony argued in its lawsuit that CBS has suppressed the value of the popular game shows by favoring its wholly-owned programming in distribution deals with TV stations. For example, “Wheel” and “Jeopardy!” have been bundled with CBS shows like “The Hot Bench” and “The Drew Barrymore Show,” with stations forced to take the entire package if they want the game shows. Sony also charged that CBS has given its own shows better placement in local markets, and that the distribution negotiations had been hampered by widespread layoffs at CBS. The final straw, according to Sony, was when it learned that CBS had entered into unauthorized deals for the shows in New Zealand and Australia, and had kept $3.6 million in distribution fees. CBS offered a far different version of events, arguing in its countersuit that Sony has been manufacturing controversies in a “Sisyphean journey of reclaiming — for free — all the rights to the Series.” CBS alleges that Sony has interfered in talks over distribution of UK and Australia versions of the shows, preventing CBS from exercising its contractual rights. CBS also claims that Sony has barred it from offering celebrity versions of the game shows in overseas markets, or signing overseas deals that go beyond 2028, both of which CBS says are in violation of the contract. CBS also accuses Sony of withholding license fees for interactive versions of the shows. According to CBS, Sony approached the company in early 2024 and offered to buy out the distribution deal. “Willing to listen to any proposal, CBS agreed to hear Sony out, and Sony offered CBS nine-figures in exchange for CBS’s rights under the Agreements,” the countersuit states. “In response, CBS proposed a counteroffer, which Sony deemed too high, and declined.” In August, Sony told CBS it was terminating the deal over the failure to turn over the distribution fee for New Zealand and Australia. CBS counters that it has already paid Sony what it is owed on those deals, and that only CBS has the unilateral right to terminate the contract. In the countersuit, CBS is seeking to enforce the contract and to reclaim what it says it is owed for the various breaches of the agreement.
Qatar, which is actively positioning itself as a key hub for innovation within the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) region, is being eyed to host an international event focusing on digital technology and innovation. According to Yasser Dhouib, the executive director of the Canadian-Qatari Business Forum (CQBF), Doha would be an ideal “guest nation” to host ‘MTL connect’, citing Qatar’s investment in various sectors like technology, education, and research and development (R&D), to create a vibrant ecosystem that promotes creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation. Dhouib lauded Qatar for leading the way in driving innovation and enhancing its status in the region through initiatives aimed at promoting cutting-edge developments and attracting talent from around the world. “MTL connect: Montreal Digital Week, is an annual international event organised by the non-profit organisation Montreal Digital Spring (Printemps numérique). This gathering of entrepreneurs, researchers, decision-makers, industry players and artists aims to provide an understanding of the challenges and issues of the digital revolution, while presenting opportunities and offering solutions to take advantage of them. “It’s also an opportunity for participants to expand their network and develop business relationships and collaborations. MTL connect takes a cross-disciplinary approach to the digital field, through its economic, social, cultural and environmental impacts on various sectors of activity,” the MTL connect website stated. The CQBF is working to partner with MTL connect, as well as with public and private sector players in Qatar, to bring the international event to the country, possibly for a ‘Doha connect’ version, noted Dhouib, who reiterated that Qatar is striving to be the centre of innovation in the GCC region. In an interview on the sidelines of this year’s MTL connect, Dhouib told event organisers that the CQBF has “approached the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in Qatar, and this is an idea that is being respected and studied, and I believe this should be done in due course.” Dhouib also said: “This is a very interesting concept that the Canadian Qatari Business Forum wants to present. We are proposing the idea of a partnership in terms of getting Qatar as a guest nation for MTL connect. “This is a very interesting partnership that we are seeking to materialise with the Qatari authorities in holding MTL connect also in Qatar with the idea of a Doha connect,” Dhouib continued. He added: “I think MTL connect and Doha can learn from this concept. Of course, Montreal is the hub in North America when it comes to clean tech, high tech, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Doha also is an ideal venue for this particular niche...the CQBF will be present and we are promoting this concept for a very interesting partnership between the two countries.” Related Story QND celebrates national unity, honours rich cultural heritage: Russian envoy GU-Q alumnus honoured with Sandhurst Medal, King Hussein AwardComelec condemns killing of 2 poll officers in Mindanao
