Market Dynamics The rising global incidence of cancer is a significant driver for the growth of the Personalized Cancer Vaccines market. With cancer cases continuing to rise, the demand for innovative, targeted therapies such as personalized vaccines is increasing as these solutions promise tailored treatment approaches that address the specific genetic and molecular profiles of tumors. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), cancer remains a leading cause of death worldwide, with 18.1 million cases diagnosed in 2018 and approximately 19 million new cases in 2020. The International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) predicts that by 2040, new global cancer cases will rise to 27.5 million annually. Similarly, the American Cancer Society reported 89,500 cases diagnosed in the U.S. in 2020 alone, further underscoring the need for advanced treatment solutions. Personalized cancer vaccines offer the potential for highly specific and effective therapies by leveraging patient-specific tumor antigens to stimulate an immune response. As global awareness and adoption of personalized medicine increase, these vaccines are gaining traction as a promising strategy to improve outcomes for cancer patients. Additionally, advancements in precision medicine, immunotherapy research, and supportive regulatory frameworks are further driving the development and commercialization of personalized cancer vaccines. With the growing burden of cancer cases globally, the personalized cancer vaccine market is poised for significant expansion during the forecast period. For months, has been in the habit of announcing on social media the next targets of his brutal foot soldiers. Seemingly drunk on his own power in a , the gang leader has issued death threats against everyone from the country’s interim government to international peacekeepers. But telegraphing his next operational move in a public video this week proved disastrous for him and his Vivre Ensemble alliance of trigger-happy thugs, after it gave police and vigilantes a chance to prepare their fightback. In the video, Cherizier said that his men would target any hotels in Petionville, an affluent suburb in Port-au-Prince, the Haitian capital, hosting members of the transitional council, a panel charged with organising the country’s first elections in a decade. Describing them as “oligarchs”, he said the only way they could save themselves would be by stepping down. A few hours later, in the small hours on Tuesday, two trucks carrying dozens of his heavily-armed men swung into Petionville, one of them parking across the main road into the suburb to block residents from fleeing. Dawn revealed a scene of carnage. Yet it was the gangsters who had paid the heaviest price for their attempts to terrorise the suburb. Their mutilated corpses littered the streets. Some had been decapitated. Others had had their feet hacked off. There was also a pile of smouldering bodies which neighbours had set alight. At least 28 Vivre Ensemble members are confirmed to have died. Martine Villeneuve, country director for the charity Action Against Hunger, said shooting and shouting could be heard around Petionville from 2am to 11am as the vigilantes and police repulsed wave after wave of Vivre Ensemble attacks. “The self-defence groups in the neighbourhoods were carrying out a manhunt for anyone associated with the gangs. Tuesday was a long night. It was very disturbing,” she told The Telegraph. Vigilantes protecting their families from the gangs that target them with , is not new in Haiti, where the police force is undermanned, riddled with corruption and outgunned by the gangsters. The vigilante movement is known as Bwa Kale and has even inspired musical tributes with machine gun-like drum mixes. Typically, residents and local business owners club together to arm neighbourhood self-defence groups, meaning that Petionville’s self-appointed defenders may have been better equipped than those in poorer districts. “The auto-defence groups are trying to protect their neighbourhoods. They put barricades in the street and control who enters and leaves,” said Ms Villeneuve. “They know who lives there, and which organisations are trying to help, but they stop anyone suspicious.” Yet fighting back against the gangs is a high-stakes strategy. One of the worst massacres since the current bout of bloodshed broke out in Haiti in February came in September in the small town of Pont-Sondé after locals dismantled a “toll booth” that the Gran Grif gang had placed on a nearby road. The gang responded by shooting and hacking to death around 70 people. Meanwhile, in the currently engulfing Haiti, the Bwa Kale have sparked concerns about their own human rights abuses and the risk that they will devolve into yet more criminal gangs. Tuesday’s gun battle in Petionville comes as the bloodshed in Haiti appears to be ramping up amid yet more political turbulence in the . Two weeks ago, the transitional council replaced Garry Conille, a US ally, as prime minister, prompting the latest wave of bloodletting. Since then, flights into Port-au-Prince’s main airport have been suspended after a Spirit Airlines passenger jet flying in from Florida was shot at multiple times, injuring a stewardess. Meanwhile, after 30 years of uninterrupted service, Doctors Without Borders this week , saying the security situation had become untenable and blaming, among others, the Bwa Kale. In a statement, the group accused police and vigilantes of having “executed” two patients, presumably injured gang members, being transported in one of its ambulances, the latest in a series of threats and attacks on its operations. The group’s withdrawal intensifies a humanitarian situation that Ms Villeneuve describes as “catastrophic”. The violence has , leaving crops unharvested and food unable to enter Port-au-Prince, with the port closed and the roads into the city controlled by the gangs. Half of Haiti’s population of nearly 12 million now eat just one meal a day. Another 1.2 million are “on the brink of famine”, according to Ms Villeneuve, with just one meal every two or three days. Yet Cherizier, a former elite police officer with political ambitions and a penchant for pseudo-revolutionary rhetoric, appears undaunted, treating both ordinary Haitians and his own gang members as expendable. Since the disastrous street battle in Petionville, he has been seen handing out school backpacks to children in Port-au-Prince as he attempts to bolster his image as a Robin Hood character defending the very communities he terrorises.
NEW YORK (AP) — Angelina Jolie never expected to hit all the notes. But finding the breath of Maria Callas was enough to bring things out of Jolie that she didn’t even know were in her. “All of us, we really don’t realize where things land in our body over a lifetime of different experiences and where we hold it to protect ourselves,” Jolie said in a recent interview. “We hold it in our stomachs. We hold it in our chest. We breathe from a different place when we’re nervous or we’re sad. “The first few weeks were the hardest because my body had to open and I had to breathe again,” she adds. “And that was a discovery of how much I wasn’t.” In Pablo Larraín’s “Maria,” which Netflix released in theaters Wednesday before it begins streaming on Dec. 11, Jolie gives, if not the performance of her career, then certainly of her last decade. Beginning with 2010’s “In the Land of Blood and Honey,” Jolie has spent recent years directing films while prioritizing raising her six children. “So my choices for quite a few years were whatever was smart financially and short. I worked very little the last eight years,” says Jolie. “And I was kind of drained. I couldn’t for a while.” But her youngest kids are now 16. And for the first time in years, Jolie is back in the spotlight, in full movie-star mode. Her commanding performance in “Maria” seems assured of bringing Jolie her third Oscar nomination. (She won supporting actress in 2000 for “Girl, Interrupted.”) For an actress whose filmography might lack a signature movie, “Maria” may be Jolie's defining role. Jolie's oldest children, Maddox and Pax, worked on the set of the film. There, they saw a version of their mother they hadn't seen before. “They had certainly seen me sad in my life. But I don’t cry in front of my children like that,” Jolie says of the emotion Callas dredged up in her. “That was a moment in realizing they were going to be with me, side by side, in this process of really understanding the depth of some of the pain I carry.” Jolie, who met a reporter earlier this fall at the Carlyle Hotel, didn't speak in any detail of that pain. But it was hard not to sense some it had to do with her lengthy and ongoing divorce from Brad Pitt, with whom she had six children. Just prior to meeting, a judge allowed Pitt’s remaining claim against Jolie, over the French winery Château Miraval, to proceed. On Monday, a judge ruled that Pitt must disclose documents Jolie’s legal team have sought that they allege include “communications concerning abuse.” Pitt has denied ever being abusive. The result of the U.S. presidential election was also just days old, though Jolie — special envoy for the United Nations Refugee Agency from 2012 to 2022 – wasn’t inclined to talk politics. Asked about Donald Trump’s win , she responded, “Global storytelling is essential,” before adding: “That’s what I’m focusing on. Listening. Listening to the voices of people in my country and around the world.” Balancing such things — reports concerning her private life, questions that accompany someone of her fame — is a big reason why Jolie is so suited to the part of Callas. The film takes place during the American-born soprano’s final days. (She died of a heart attack at 53 in 1977.) Spending much of her time in her grand Paris apartment, Callas hasn’t sung publicly in years; she’s lost her voice. Imprisoned by the myth she’s created, Callas is redefining herself and her voice. An instructor tells her he wants to hear “Callas, not Maria." The movie, of course, is more concerned with Maria. It’s Larrain’s third portrait of 20th century female icon, following “Jackie” (with Natalie Portman as Jacqueline Kennedy) and “Spencer” (with Kristen Stewart as Princess Diana). As Callas, Jolie is wonderfully regal — a self-possessed diva who deliciously, in lines penned by screenwriter Steven Knight, spouts lines like: “I took liberties all my life and the world took liberties with me.” Asked if she identified with that line, Jolie answered, “Yeah, yeah.” Then she took a long pause. “I’m sure people will read a lot into this and there’s probably a lot I could say but don’t want to feed into,” Jolie eventually continues. “I know she was a public person because she loved her work. And I’m a public person because I love my work, not because I like being public. I think some people are more comfortable with a public life, and I’ve never been fully comfortable with it.” When Larraín first approached Jolie about the role, he screened “Spencer” for her. That film, like “Jackie” and “Maria,” eschews a biopic approach to instead intimately focus on a specific moment of crisis. Larraín was convinced Jolie was meant for the role. “I felt she could have that magnetism,” Larraín says. “The enigmatic diva that’s come to a point in her life where she has to take control of her life again. But the weight of her experience, of her music, of her singing, everything, is on her back. And she carries that. It’s someone who’s already loaded with a life that’s been intense.” “There’s a loneliness that we both share,” Jolie says. “That’s not necessarily a bad thing. I think people can be alone and lonely sometimes, and that can be part of who they are.” Larraín, the Chilean filmmaker, grew up in Santiago going to the opera, and he has long yearned to bring its full power and majesty to a movie. In Callas, he heard something that transfixed him. “I hear something near perfection, but at the same time, it’s something that’s about to be destroyed,” Larraín says. “So it’s as fragile and as strong as possible. It lives in both extremes. That’s why it’s so moving. I hear a voice that’s about to be broken, but it doesn’t.” In Callas’ less perfect moments singing in the film, Larraín fuses archival recordings of Callas with Jolie’s own voice. Some mix of the two runs throughout “Maria.” “Early in the process,” Jolie says, “I discovered that you can’t fake-sing opera.” Jolie has said she never sang before, not even karaoke. But the experience has left her with a newfound appreciation of opera and its healing properties. “I wonder if it’s something you lean into as you get older,” Jolie says. “Maybe your depth of pain is bigger, your depth of loss is bigger, and that sound in opera meets that, the enormity of it.” If Larraín’s approach to “Maria” is predicated on an unknowingness, he's inclined to say something similar about his star. “Because of media and social media, some people might think that they know a lot about Angelina,” he says. “Maria, I read nine biographies of her. I saw everything. I read every interview. I made this movie. But I don’t think I would be capable of telling you who she was us. So if there’s an element in common, it’s that. They carry an enormous amount of mystery. Even if you think that you know them, you don’t.” Whether “Maria” means more acting in the future for Jolie, she's not sure. “There's not a clear map,” she says. Besides, Jolie isn't quite ready to shake Callas. “When you play a real person, you feel at some point that they become your friend,” says Jolie. “Right now, it’s still a little personal. It’s funny, I’ll be at a premiere or I’ll walk into a room and someone will start blaring her music for fun, but I have this crazy internal sense memory of dropping to my knees and crying.”The Dallas Cowboys ruled out right guard Zack Martin and cornerback Trevon Diggs with injuries on Saturday, one day prior to a road game against the Washington Commanders. Martin has been dealing with ankle and shoulder injuries and didn't practice at all this week before initially being listed as doubtful to play on Friday. He also physically struggled during Monday night's loss to the Houston Texans. Martin, who turned 34 on Wednesday, has started all 162 games played in 11 seasons with the Cowboys. He's a nine-time Pro Bowl selection and a seven-time first-team All-Pro. Diggs has been dealing with groin and knee injuries. He was listed as questionable on Friday before being downgraded Saturday. Diggs, 26, has 37 tackles and two interceptions in 10 games this season. The two-time Pro Bowl pick led the NFL with 11 picks in 2021 and has 20 in 57 games. The Cowboys elected not to activate receiver Brandin Cooks (knee) for the game. He returned to practice earlier this week and he was listed as questionable on Friday. Dallas activated offensive tackle Chuma Edoga (toe) and defensive end Marshawn Kneeland (knee) off injured reserve Saturday, placed safety Markquese Bell (shoulder) on IR and released defensive end KJ Henry. Tight end Jake Ferguson (concussion) was previously ruled out. Tight end Princeton Fant was elevated from the practice squad to replace him. Cornerback Kemon Hall also was elevated from the practice squad. --Field Level Media
Ranbir Kapoor on Animal, glorification of violence on screenThousands of protesters marched through Barcelona on Saturday demanding lower rents in Spain's second city. Barcelona, which has already taken action to stop the spread of holiday rental apartments, is the latest Spanish city to see protests for cheaper housing. Backed by left-wing parties and unions, the demonstrators gathered in central Barcelona behind a giant banner declaring "Lower the rents". "Today a new political cycle starts concerning housing," Carme Arcarazo, spokesperson for the Catalan Tenants Union, the main organiser, told reporters. "Investors must not be allowed to come to our cities and play with the apartments like a game of Monopoly," she added. The union would target "profiteers" who are taking "half of our salaries", Arcarazo said. The demonstrators demanded a 50 percent cut in rents, leases with an unlimited term and a ban on "speculative" sales of buildings. They threatened to start a rent strike. An estimated 22,000 people took part in a similar demonstration in Madrid on October 13. Campaigns have been launched in other cities. According to the Idealista specialised website, rental prices per square metre have risen 82 percent across Spain over the past decade. The average salary has gone up by 17 percent in that time, according to the national statistics institute. Facing pressure over a housing crisis, the government in 2023 passed legislation calling for more social housing, greater restrictions on rents in high demand areas and penalties for owners who do not occupy properties. But rents have continued to rise while the government has battled city and regional authorities to get some parts of the law applied. vid-vab/tw/jm

Trump’s tariffs in his first term did little to alter the economy, but this time could be differentBenguet Corp. has secured the go-ahead from stakeholders to increase its authorized capital stock as the listed company gears up to expand its foothold outside the mining industry. In a stock exchange disclosure, Benguet said it secured the green light for an increase to P3.18 billion from P784.8 million, during the firm’s annual meeting of stockholders conducted via livestreaming. Benguet will file with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the application for a higher authorized capital stock. READ: Benguet Corp pushes expansion, diversification “The purpose of the capital increase is for the company to conduct a stock rights offer (SRO), stock option grants, and declare stock dividends in the future,” it said. A company such as Benguet carries out an SRO to provide existing shareholders an opportunity to purchase more shares at a discount. Proceeds from this transaction are used to settle debts or bankroll projects in the pipeline. In a stock option grant, an entity offers employees, consultants or executives the right to purchase a certain number of its shares at a predetermined price, subject to certain conditions. This developed as Benguet signified its intention to increase its activities not only in the mining sector but also in other industries such as renewable energy after settling its decades-long debt. Benguet disclosed it is focusing on its gold prospects as prices of the yellow metal soar. The company initiated the exploration of its gold concession area in Zamboanga Sibugay and is on the lookout for other copper-gold prospects. It is also studying a new technology for higher recovery of its gold tailing project in Itogon. Likewise, the firm continues to implement its drilling program at the Pantingan gold prospect in Bataan. It approved a budget of P50 million to support Phase Two of the drilling and exploration plan. Last October, Benguet secured the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ approval to extend its mineral production sharing agreement for another 25 years, which it expects will lead to the declaration for mining project feasibility. Benguet has an operating agreement with Balanga Bataan Minerals Corp. signed in March 1996. It covers 1,410 hectares situated in the towns of Bagac, Mariveles and Limay in Bataan. He wasn’t stopping at the end of three miles there and shapes like a real stayer. It’s relatively early days and he can improve past his handicap mark. BOOTHILL (2.30 Kempton, nb) He fell in this race 12 months ago and ran his best race since when second to Jonbon in the Shloer at Cheltenham last time. He pushed that class act to within two lengths and will appreciate these conditions. A repeat of that effort would be good enough. DR TJ ECKLEBURG (3.25 Chepstow, treble) He seemed to have plenty left in the tank when winning at Haydock last time and a 7lb rise in the weights won’t put the brakes on. He then ran another decent race at Ascot when staying on strongly in the closing stages. He’s back from the same handicap mark with every chance again. Lowry’s Bar got the best of a battle when landing his first chase victory at Exeter 21 days ago. He’d ideally like it softer but is improving and looks a major threat. Le Milos has dropped to 5lb below his last winning mark but he hasn’t been seeing out his races for a little while. It would be no surprise to see him bounce back for the Skeltons. Venetia Williams may not quite be in the form of a couple of weeks ago but her Georges Saint is still a threat. He didn’t fire at Ludlow last time after a couple of decent wins over this trip. He could still be ahead of the handicapper. Fidelio Vallis was pulled up after a year off at Newbury last time and showed he was better than that when scoring at Musselburgh on New Year’s Day. 1.40 NIETZSCHE HAS boasts some fancy form in France where he was beaten just over a length in an Auteuil Grade 1 last month. He has plenty of pace for this trip and likes cut in the ground. He should be capable of better. Opec had eight lengths in hand when winning a Newbury Listed contest last month. She had the race won a long way out and gets the valuable mares’ allowance which only boosts her chances. This is hotter company but she should be up to it. Static has moved to Olly Murphy from France and was a distant third in a Cheltenham Grade 2 latest. He’ll need to raise his game but this is just his third run for current connections. Hot Fuss was a fair handicapper on the level and landed his first hurdles victory at Sandown earlier this month. This is a much hotter contest but he could hit the frame under Harry Cobden. Melon clocked a fair time when scoring on hurdles debut at Donny just 14 days ago. He’ll have to take another step up in this company. 2.10 DANS LE VENT has tumbled to almost a stone below his last winning hurdles mark and showed some promise at Haydock last month. He has plenty of stamina for this trip and looks a big price to make the placings at least for Welsh trainer Evan Williams. Woodie Flash seems to have improved for being held up on his past two runs, with a win at Ffos Las followed by a close second in decent company at Lingfield last time. A 5lb rise for that looks fair over his favourite distance. Madaket finished a place behind Woodie Flash latest and he’s 3lb better off at the weights today. Phantomofthepoints could do with more rain as he loved the mud when going close at Haydock last month. He is a thorough stayer who will go from the front and could hold on for a place. Bill Baxter enjoyed coming back to hurdles when second at Uttoxeter latest and has an each-way chance from this reduced mark. Tune In A Box landed a big pot at Punchestown in April and ran his best race since when a close-up fourth at Cheltenham latest. He has a chance over an ideal trip. 2.50 STUZZIKINI looked a National type when winning the Troytown for Gordon Elliott at Navan last time. He wasn’t stopped at the end of three miles there and shapes like a real stayer. It’s relatively early days and he can improve past his handicap mark. Elliott has another good chance with Where It All Began under Sean Bowen. He was far from disgraced when eighth in the Irish National and comes here fresh. Galia Des Liteaux has been laid out for this and ran a decent race in the Coral Cup at Newbury last time. He would ideally like the ground a bit softer but should be right there. Iron Bridge was a distant third in this 12 months ago but is 6lb lower in the handicap today so has every chance of matching that effort. Monbeg Genius was a good second at Haydock on comeback and has run well around here before. He will enjoy this test of stamina. Fontaine Collonges has a big weight but he was impressive when beating Monbeg Genius at Haydock latest. He’s up 8lb but should be competitive although softer ground would be ideal for the Venetia Williams runner. Sam Thomas pair 2021 winner Iwilldoit and Jubilee Express both have place claims but would also like more rain. KEMPTON 1.20 LARCHMONT LASS found 2m4f on the sharp side when a still-decent third at Sandown last time out. She was much happier tackling a stiffer stamina test at Wetherby scoring on comeback and she looks capable of better for Nicholls and Cobden. Fortuna Ligna looks an each-way price and was far from disgraced at Ascot latest. She can make mistakes but has a decent engine. Pawpuri was understandably rusty on his her first hurdles outing for almost a year here last month. She went well for a long way and just got tired in the closing stages. This longer trip should be fine and she’s a threat. West Balboa is in danger of becoming disappointing and she has more talent than she’s been showing lately. She is capable of better than we saw at Doncaster last time and her rider takes off a valuable 7lb. Della Casa Lunga was a solid second in Listed company here latest and has had a wind op since. She needs to find her very best. 1.55 This should be an absolute cracker and chase debutant SIR GINO can just get the better of Ballyburn. Nicky Henderson has been waxing lyrical about Sir Gino’s schooling at home and he showed himself in peak form when winning the Grade 1 Fighting Fifth over hurdles at Newcastle last month. His best form has all been over this distance and he’s got a course win on his CV which is a major plus. The decent ground just tips things in his favour as Ballyburn has only run with plenty of give underfoot. Willie Mullins’ hope will be a tough nut to crack though and he looked a natural when winning his chase debut at Punchestown last time by 13 lengths. He won a Grade 1 over hurdles at this trip but he shapes as though a longer distance would be perfect. If would be a surprise if Rubaud can figure on his chase debut although he was more than decent over timber too. He took Listed honours over course and distance in October but this is tougher. 2.30 BOOTHILL fell in this race 12 months ago and ran his best race since when second to Jonbon in the Shloer at Cheltenham last time. He pushed that class act to within two lengths and will appreciate these conditions. A repeat of that effort would be good enough. Martator showed no signs of ending his winning run when bolting up by 11 lengths at Ascot last month. That was his fifth success in a row for Venetia Williams and he’s right at home over this distance on decent ground. The handicapper has piled another 11lb on his back but that may not be enough to put the brakes on. Edwardstone was behind the tip in the Shloer before falling in the Tingle Creek last time. He was still going well when hitting the deck four out but may struggle to give weight away all round. Sans Bruit was no match for Martator when they met at Ascot last month and there’s no obvious reason why he’ll turn that form around. 3.08 FRERO BANBOU was impressive when winning at Newcastle last time and a 7lb rise isn’t a worry as he’s won off this mark before. We have seen all season how good jockey Charlie Deutsch is on staying chasers and he can land another nice prize for Venetia Williams. Weveallbeencaught will be much happier down at this level after being pulled up at Cheltenham last month. His last run in this grade saw him finish a close second and he looks solid each-way. Dreaming Blue makes the odd mistake but he got everything right when winning over a bit further at Ludlow last time. A 3lb rise in the weights is more than fair. Highstakesplayer was a battling winner over course and distance in April and returned with a good second at Ascot before a flatter effort at Newbury latest. He has his sights lowered here. Golden Son is another who has shown his best at this specialists’ track and will be a lot fitter after his rusty comeback at Newbury last time out. The Winnipeg Goldeyes have announced a trade as they acquired a new first baseman. In a deal that was actually completed a few weeks ago, the Goldeyes revealed they picked up infielder Jake Guenther in a trade with the Frontier League’s Lake Erie Crushers. The Crushers will receive a player to be named later as part of the swap. The 27-year-old is a seventh-round draft pick of the MLB’s Tampa Bay Rays and also spent time in the Texas Rangers farm system. He had a .272 batting average with four home runs and 37 RBI with the Crushers last season. Goldeyes manager Logan Watkins has had his eye on the Wisconsin product for a number of years and has already signed Guenther to a new contract for the 2025 season. “Jake is a guy I’ve had on my radar for a while,” Watkins said in a media release. “He was at TCU (Texas Christian University) when I was with Cleburne, so he was someone we considered signing but it didn’t end up happening. “I’m happy to see he’s had a successful start to his professional career and our paths are finally crossing in Winnipeg. Fans should expect a plus defender coupled with a good, competitive approach at the plate.” Jake McMurray started the majority of the games at first base for the Fish last season, but is currently unsigned. Guenther is their eighth player signed for next season. Spring training starts on April 26.
