This release was published on openPR.Green Bay Packers standout cornerback Jaire Alexander missed the team’s Week 9 game with an injury, then played just 10 snaps in his Week 11 return against the Chicago Bears. As it turns out, what was characterized as a knee injury was a good bit more severe than that. Alexander admitted Thursday that he has been dealing with a torn PCL and will miss more time as a result. Alexander had been hopeful that he would be able to battle through the injury, but he aggravated the problem during his limited showing against Chicago. “I stayed here the whole bye week trying to hopefully come back and make an impact for the team,” Alexander said, via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic . “It was a game-time decision at that, so we didn’t know ... until, you know, a few minutes before the game if I would play or not. “I just tried to give it a go ... I went out there and s–t, all I could really give was 10 plays and then it — I felt something. If you know how (posterior cruciate ligaments) work, it don’t just get done in three weeks, so it just needed more time. I reaggravated it going back out there and only doing 10 plays, so now we just trying to get my knee back right.” A two-time All-Pro selection, injuries have been a big problem for Alexander over the last few seasons. He was limited to seven games in 2023, the same total he has played in this year. He and the Packers are not putting a timetable on his return, so it seems safe he will miss at least a few more weeks. Alexander has 16 total tackles and two interceptions for Green Bay this season. The Atlanta Falcons re-signed linebacker Rashaan Evans to the practice squad on Tuesday. Evans played in two games for the Falcons earlier this season and received one defensive snap and five on special teams. He was on the roster Weeks 9-15 before being released Dec. 21. Evans, 29, was a first-round pick (22nd overall) in 2018 by the Tennessee Titans. He spent four seasons with the Titans before signing with the Falcons prior to the 2022 season. Evans stood out for Atlanta in 2022 with a career-high 159 tackles and two sacks. He played in nine games for the Dallas Cowboys in 2023. Overall, Evans has 485 tackles and five sacks in 87 career games (68 starts) over seven NFL seasons. Atlanta also signed defensive lineman Kyler Baugh to the practice squad. He was on the practice squads of the New Orleans Saints and New York Giants earlier this season. Baugh, 23, has not played in an NFL game. He originally was signed as an undrafted free agent by the New Orleans Saints following the 2024 NFL Draft. --Field Level Media

Believe it or not, Cowboys might have hope yet after chaotic win at Washington FRISCO, Texas (AP) — A rare win as a double-digit underdog came just in time to let the Dallas Cowboys believe their playoff hopes aren't completely gone in 2024. Schuyler Dixon, The Associated Press Nov 25, 2024 2:19 PM Nov 25, 2024 2:35 PM Share by Email Share on Facebook Share on X Share on LinkedIn Print Share via Text Message Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy answers questions during a press conference after an NFL football game against the Washington Commanders, Sunday, Nov. 24, 2024, in Landover, Md. The Cowboys won 34-26. (AP Photo/Stephanie Scarbrough) FRISCO, Texas (AP) — A rare win as a double-digit underdog came just in time to let the Dallas Cowboys believe their playoff hopes aren't completely gone in 2024. Cooper Rush probably will need three more victories in a row filling in for the injured Dak Prescott for any postseason talk to be realistic. The thing is, the Cowboys (4-7) could be favored in two of those games, and already are by four points as an annual Thanksgiving Day host against the New York Giants (2-9) on Thursday, according to BetMGM. Not to mention the losing record at the moment for each of the next four opponents for the defending NFC East champions, playoff qualifiers each of the past three seasons. The Cowboys have a chance to make something of the improbable and chaotic 34-26 win at Washington that ended a five-game losing streak. “Behind the eight ball,” Micah Parsons said, the star pass rusher acknowledging the reality that Dallas hadn't done much yet. “Let’s see how we can handle adversity and see if we can make a playoff run. But we got a long way to go.” It was a start, though, powered in part by the best 55 minutes from the Dallas defense since the opener, when the Cowboys dismantled Cleveland and looked the part of a Super Bowl contender. The last five minutes for the Dallas defense against the Commanders looked a lot like most of the nine games after that 33-17 victory over the Browns. Which is to say not very good. Jayden Daniels easily drove Washington 69 yards to a touchdown before throwing an 86-yard scoring pass in the final seconds to Terry McLaurin, who weaved through five defenders when a tackle might have ended the game. The Cowboys kept a 27-26 lead thanks to Austin Seibert's second missed extra point, and withstood another blunder when Juanyeh Thomas returned an onside kick recovery for a TD rather than slide and leave one kneel-down from Rush to end the game. Dallas will have to remember it did hold a dynamic rookie quarterback's offense to 251 yards before the madness of the ending in the Cowboys' biggest upset victory since 2010 at the New York Giants. That one was too late to save the season. This one might not be. “We needed it,” embattled coach Mike McCarthy said. “It’s been frustrating, no doubt. We’ve acknowledged that. We’ve got another one right around the corner here, so we have to get some wins and get some momentum.” What's working Rush ended a personal three-game losing streak with his best showing since the previous time he won as the replacement for Prescott, who is out for the season after surgery for a torn hamstring. The 117.6 passer rating was Rush's best as a starter, and the NFL's second-worst rushing attack played a solid complementary role with Rico Dowdle gaining 86 yards on 19 carries. What needs help KaVontae Turpin's electrifying 99-yard kickoff return did more than lift the Cowboys when it appeared an 11-point lead might get away in the final five minutes. It eased the worst day of special teams for Dallas since John Fassel took over that phase four years ago. Suddenly struggling kicker Brandon Aubrey had one field-goal attempt blocked and missed another. Bryan Anger had a punt blocked. For the second time in five games, Aubrey's attempt to bounce a kickoff in front of the return man backfired. The ball bounced outside the landing zone, putting the Commanders at the 40-yard line to start the second half and setting up the drive to the game's first touchdown. Stock up CB Josh Butler, whose NFL debut earlier this season came five years after the end of his college career, had 12 tackles, a sack and three pass breakups. The pass breakups were the most by an undrafted Dallas player since 1994. Stock down Rookie LT Tyler Guyton, who has had an up-and-down season with injuries and performance issues, was benched immediately after getting called for a false start in the fourth quarter. His replacement, Asim Richards, could be sidelined with a high ankle sprain that executive vice president of personnel Stephen Jones revealed on his radio show Monday. Veteran Chuma Edoga, who was the projected starter at Guyton's position before a preseason toe injury, was active but didn't play against the Commanders. He's awaiting his season debut. Injuries The status of perennial All-Pro RG Zack Martin (ankle/shoulder) and LG Tyler Smith (ankle/knee) will be a question on the short week after both sat against Washington. Stephen Jones indicated Smith could be available and said the same of WR Brandin Cooks, who hasn't played since Week 4 because of a knee issue. TE Jake Ferguson may miss at least a second week with a concussion. The short week might make it tough for CB Trevon Diggs (groin/knee) to return. Key number 75% — Rush's completion rate, his best with at least 10 passes. He was 24 of 32 for 247 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. His other game with multiple TDs and no picks was a 25-10 victory over Washington two years ago, when he went 4-1 with Prescott sidelined by a broken thumb. Next steps There's some extra rest after the short week, with Cincinnati making a “Monday Night Football” visit on Dec. 9. The next road game is at Carolina on Dec. 15. ___ AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl Schuyler Dixon, The Associated Press See a typo/mistake? Have a story/tip? Ana Paula Consorte shines with Paolo Guerrero after suffering from pneumonia: “Family”In recent years, Apple has been actively revising its hardware strategy to reduce reliance on third-party manufacturers. One of the most significant moves in this direction has been the company’s intention to completely sever ties with Nvidia, a supplier of graphics processors and AI accelerators. As part of this strategy, Apple has ramped up its research and development efforts to create its own AI accelerators. The relationship between Apple and Nvidia dates back to the early 2000s when Nvidia graphics cards were first introduced in Mac computers. However, even then, tensions between the companies were evident. Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO at the time, openly expressed skepticism about Nvidia’s technology, alleging potential loans from the animation studio Pixar. According to The Information , Nvidia’s top manager denied the accusation, but Jobs disregarded the denial throughout the meeting. Nvidia, on its part, has also found working with Apple challenging, viewing the company as overly demanding for a customer that has not consistently ranked among its top ten clients. Over the years, disagreements persisted, with Apple voicing concerns about Nvidia’s energy-inefficient graphics cards, which produced significant heat -— particularly problematic for mobile solutions. Despite Nvidia’s dominance in the AI accelerator market, holding a 70% to 95% share in recent years, Apple has chosen to forgo reliance on the company. It’s worth noting that until recently, Nvidia hardware was vital for various functions on Apple’s AI project platform. However, Apple has recognized the importance of developing in-house solutions to eliminate dependence on external partners. Interestingly, Apple hasn’t purchased Nvidia hardware directly but instead accessed it through Amazon and Microsoft cloud services. According to reports, this arrangement may not continue, as Apple has engaged Broadcom to work on developing its own AI accelerator. Since the introduction of the M1 chip in November 2020, Apple’s first in-house processor for its Mac series, Apple has demonstrated its willingness to take bold steps. This decision has already led to a break with Intel, which has historically been Apple’s primary processor supplier. Since then, Apple has continued its push toward full autonomy, exploring the creation of its own AI accelerators to replace Nvidia’s technology. Nvidia is one of the leading manufacturers of GPUs, and many Apple products — especially in the MAC and gaming segment — depend on Nvidia’s performance. If Apple decides to end its collaboration with Nvidia, this could impact the performance of its devices, potentially reducing consumer demand for its products. However, if Apple successfully develops alternative solutions or relies on its technology, it could mitigate these risks. This shift, akin to automating trading on stock markets or leveraging a stock screener to identify undervalued opportunities, demands substantial time and resources. Apple plans to launch new AI accelerators, codenamed Baltra, in 2026. These accelerators are expected to be produced at TSMC facilities using cutting-edge N3P process technology. Notably, this same process will debut in the iPhone 17 Pro, underscoring its significance for Apple’s future devices. The potential break with Nvidia might also raise concerns among investors, potentially impacting Apple’s stock price if perceived as a sign of innovation or strategy issues. Apple stock is closely monitored by investors and regularly appears on stock screeners for its strong fundamentals and market influence. A poorly managed transition away from Nvidia could dampen investor sentiment, while a successful move could enhance confidence in Apple’s vision and drive its stock higher. The end of Apple’s partnership with Nvidia could have far-reaching implications for the AI and graphics solutions markets. By striving for complete independence, Apple is making a decisive move toward self-sufficiency and innovation, setting the stage for changes that will reshape not only its business but also the broader tech industry.

DOHA, Qatar — Russia’s top diplomat was under pressure. At a high-level forum on Saturday in the Qatari capital, Sergei Lavrov, the world’s longest-serving foreign minister, turned uncharacteristically testy when his interlocutor kept asking him about the fate of Syria and its long-ruling dictator Bashar al-Assad. He scolded the interviewer, a veteran Al Jazeera English journalist, for describing Syria’s ascendant rebels as “opposition” groups rather than “terrorists.” And he grumbled about not being asked to speak more about Russia’s strengthening hand in Ukraine. Here’s everything we’re expecting with Apple Pro Display XDR 2

2025 NFL mock draft 3.0: Giants take QB at No. 1, while a handful of CFP standouts go top 10* Gap surges after raising annual sales forecast * Intuit drops after forecasting Q2 results below estimates * Small caps touch over one-week high * Three major indexes post weekly gains (Updates as of the close) By Abigail Summerville and Johann M Cherian Nov 22 (Reuters) - Wall Street closed higher on Friday, with all three major indexes posting weekly gains, as investors took comfort from data pointing to robust economic activity in the world's biggest economy. A measure of business activity raced to a 31-month high in November, boosted by hopes for lower interest rates and more business-friendly policies from President-elect Donald Trump's administration next year. The domestically focused small-cap Russell 2000 index rose and outperformed large-cap indexes. The index hit its highest in more than a week and was set for weekly advances. Meanwhile, Alphabet fell following Thursday's 4% drop, as the U.S. Department of Justice argued to a judge the company was monopolizing online search. AI bellwether Nvidia also slipped in choppy trading following its quarterly forecast on Wednesday. An index tracking S&P 500 value stocks rose as investors rotated out of their growth peers. "I’ve been looking for this leadership change to go from technology to everything else. I think we may be in the midst of that shift. Small caps are acting much better, values are acting better," said Mark Hackett, Chief of Investment Research at Nationwide. According to preliminary data, the S&P 500 gained 19.55 points, or 0.33%, to end at 5,968.26 points, while the Nasdaq Composite gained 26.45 points, or 0.14%, to 18,998.87. The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 423.28 points, or 0.96%, to 44,293.63. The S&P and the Dow reached one-week highs. Expectations on the Federal Reserve's policy move in December have recently swayed between a pause and a cut, as investors weighed the likely impact of Trump's plans on price pressures. There is a 59.6% probability the central bank will lower borrowing costs by 25 basis points, as per the CME Group's FedWatch Tool. Geopolitics were top of mind this week as investors monitored a missile exchange between Ukraine and Russia, after Moscow lowered its threshold for a nuclear retaliation. The markets are also awaiting Trump's Treasury Secretary pick. "The fact that we’ve been calm on a nice, steady stair step pattern higher is very encouraging and reflective of the fact that investors aren’t acting with the emotion that they could be given the amount of uncertainties we’ve faced," Hackett said. In company news, Gap Inc jumped after the Old Navy parent raised its annual sales forecast and said the holiday season was off to a "strong start". Intuit fell after the TurboTax parent projected second-quarter revenue and profit below Wall Street estimates on Thursday. e join in the rejoicing of WNebraska abortion op-ponents that some 55% of voters Nov. 5 bucked a national trend and wrote the Legislature's general 12-week ban into this state's constitution. But let's drop any talk of immediately seeking an even earlier statutory abortion ban, as Initiative 434 allows. The 2025 Legislature must thoroughly ensure that as many life-threatening pregnancy complications as possible are legally covered as "medical emergency" exceptions allowed by Initiative 434 and existing law. The Telegraph first urged this priority on Jan. 29, 2023, while favoring the "fetal heartbeat" ban introduced in 2023 and later modified into the 12-week ban enacted in Legislative Bill 574. We applauded the law's inclusion of the "three exceptions," listed in Initiative 434 as abortions "necessitated by a medical emergency or when the pregnancy results from sexual assault or incest." LB 574 defines "medical emergency" as a condition "which, in reasonable medical judgment, so complicates the medical condition of the pregnant woman as to necessitate the termination of the pregnancy to avert her death" or creates "a serious risk of substantial and irreversible physical impairment of a bodily function." It lists five situations that cannot be considered "abortions": ■ Removal of ectopic pregnancies. ■ "Removal of the remains of a preborn child who has already died." ■ Acts "to save the life or preserve the health of the preborn child." ■ "The accidental termination of the life of a preborn child." ■ "Assisted reproductive technology," including in vitro fertilization, that costs the life "of a preborn child who is not being carried inside a woman's body." Nebraskans must legally protect "mothers or doctors who act in good faith and in the best interests of both lives," we wrote in 2023. "That may require medical procedures necessary for the mother to recover if her child does not or cannot live to be born." If the law's "protections aren't rock-solid," we added, "keep refining them until they are." State lawmakers must make that their 2025 priority. Pre-election news stories told of Nebraska mothers with troubled pregnancies whose Nebraska doctors didn't believe they could properly treat them without running afoul of the 12-week abortion ban. Those mothers had to go to other states for care. These are pregnant mothers who found their lives, their children's lives or both on the line. Miscarriages, stillbirths and premature births can happen in any pregnancy. So can birth defects, some of which unborn babies cannot survive. High blood pressure can suddenly develop in pregnancy and put mothers in great danger if not dealt with promptly. Surely no Nebraskan could disagree that mothers facing such situations ought to be cared for in our state, with all the compassion and medical skill available in such terrible circumstances. But if abortion foes insist on pushing for an even earlier ban, this priority will be lost in the hyperpolitical din. Neither is this a time for doctors or abortion-rights supporters to withhold cooperation in making the list of life-threatening exceptions as complete and detailed as currently possible. Let's decisively prove that all Nebraskans equally love pregnant mothers and their unborn children when one or both of their lives are at risk. Street gangs have taken over an estimated 85% of Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince, and they forced the closure of the General Hospital early this year. Authorities had pledged to reopen the facility Tuesday, but as journalists gathered to cover the event, suspected gang members opened fire in a vicious Christmas Eve attack. Robest Dimanche, a spokesman for the Online Media Collective, identified the dead journalists as Markenzy Nathoux and Jimmy Jean. Dimanche said an unspecified number of reporters had also been wounded in the attack, which he blamed on the Viv Ansanm coalition of gangs. Haiti’s interim president, Leslie Voltaire, said in an address to the nation that journalists and police were among the victims of the attack. He did not specify how many casualties there were, or give a breakdown for the dead or wounded. “I send my sympathies to the people who were victims, the national police and the journalists,” Voltaire said, pledging “this crime is not going to go unpunished.” A video posted online by the reporters trapped inside the hospital showed what appeared to be two lifeless bodies of men on stretchers, their clothes bloodied. One of the men had a lanyard with a press credential around his neck. Radio Télé Métronome initially reported that seven journalists and two police officers were wounded. Police and officials did not immediately respond to calls for information on the attack. Street gangs have taken over an estimated 85% of Haiti’s capital, Port-au-Prince. They forced the closure of the General Hospital early this year during violence that also targeted the main international airport and Haiti’s two largest prisons. Authorities had pledged to reopen the facility Tuesday, but as journalists gathered to cover the event, suspected gang members opened fire. Video posted online earlier showed reporters inside the building and at least three lying on the floor, apparently wounded. That video could also not be immediately verified. Johnson “Izo” André, considered Haiti’s most powerful gang leader and part of a gang known as Viv Ansanm, which that has taken control of much of Port-au-Prince , posted a video on social media claiming responsibility for the attack. The video said the gang coalition had not authorized the hospital’s reopening. Haiti has seen journalists targeted before. In 2023, two local journalists were killed in the space of a couple of weeks — radio reporter Dumesky Kersaint was fatally shot in mid-April that year, while journalist Ricot Jean was found dead later that month. In July, former Prime Minister Garry Conille visited the Hospital of the State University of Haiti, more widely known as the General Hospital, after authorities regained control of it from gangs. The hospital had been left ravaged and strewn with debris. Walls and nearby buildings were riddled with bullet holes, signaling fights between police and gangs. The hospital is across the street from the national palace, the scene of several battles in recent months. Gang attacks have pushed Haiti’s health system to the brink of collapse with looting, setting fires, and destroying medical institutions and pharmacies in the capital. The violence has created a surge in patients and a shortage of resources to treat them. Haiti’s health care system faces additional challenges during the rainy season, which is likely to increase the risk of water-borne diseases. Poor conditions in camps and makeshift settlements have heightened the risk of diseases like cholera, with over 84,000 suspected cases in the country, according to UNICEF.AP Sports SummaryBrief at 6:49 p.m. EST
