Wired reports that the rise of AI has brought about concerns regarding its potential to replace human workers across various industries. One niche occupation that is already experiencing disruption due to AI is the role of OnlyFans chatters. These gig workers are paid to impersonate top-earning OnlyFans creators in online conversations with their fans, providing a crucial element of relationship simulation that complements the platform’s pornographic content. Traditionally, human chatters from countries with lower wage expectations, such as the Philippines, Pakistan, and India, have been employed to manage the deluge of amorous messages received by popular OnlyFans creators. Like all companies, Teladoc Health ( TDOC 2.16% ) will need to evolve a lot over the next three years. The days of the telehealth operator's peak hype are now firmly in the past. It's up to management to deliver good returns to the shareholders through prudent execution of its core strategy, rather than marketing alone. What will that look like in practice, and what should investors be on the lookout for? Let's examine a pair of scenarios and map out this business' future. Will the company's direction change? There are two main possibilities for where Teladoc will be in late 2027. In one of those scenarios, the business will spend the next couple of years consolidating its market share in telehealth, seeking to shore up an ecosystem of services that subscribers and insurers will find beneficial to participate in, instead of defecting to a competitor. While rolling out a few new services will likely be necessary for ongoing growth in its subscriber base and its revenue, the main focus will be on building up a competitive advantage via the economies of scale it may have in delivering telehealth. Teladoc would thus seek to retain its large volume of recurring revenue from monthly payments from its members, and seek to upsell them on additional offerings for additional fees. It might also find some growth by fully realizing its strategy to create virtual primary healthcare service, as well as its chronic care management service. Smoothly integrating data from a patient's medical records and at-home medical sensors may become competitive differentiators. Profitability wouldn't be a major concern, at least not immediately. The other scenario takes a different approach. Rather than continuing to try to compete further down the care chain in primary care, behavioral health, and other specialties, Teladoc could embrace its strong position at the top of the funnel and double down on using its telehealth services as the public's first (or only) stop in their care journey. In this scenario, the company would aim to get even better at helping patients to understand whether or not they need to urgently go to an in-person doctor or specialist, and at dispatching prescriptions and organizing follow-ups with primary care for common issues. In financial terms, the focus would be on controlling its cost of delivering care and building up its margins by eliminating activities that it didn't excel at. The business would probably become operationally profitable sooner than in the first scenario. In June, Teladoc got a new CEO, Chuck Divita, who also joined the company's board of directors at the same time. So far, he hasn't yet mentioned either of these scenarios, but it's worth mentioning that the first scenario is the one that guided strategy during the prior CEO's tenure. Still, the second scenario might end up being more favorable for shareholders. Teladoc's quarterly gross margin is 67.2% as of the third quarter, slightly lower than in the same quarter a year ago. Though its membership base has grown to reach 93.9 million people in the same period, its quarterly revenue shrank by 3%, reaching $640.5 million. In other words, the strategy of creating more telehealth services for members to use hasn't resulted in the top line growing consistently, nor has it done the margin any favors. While it may be true that the company could one day realize efficiencies due to the scale of its operations, those haven't panned out yet, and there isn't evidence that they are about to do so. If that approach succeeds in actually lowering costs and thereby delivering the second scenario, Teladoc could potentially be profitable three years from now (or sooner). There's more than one risk in store For investors today, there are a few risks inherent to each of Teladoc's possible futures although they don't entail risks that would be likely to sink the company altogether. In particular, the biggest risk is that major, mission critical, and ongoing costs, such as for physician labor, simply can't be reduced significantly. Doctors are unlikely to work for less than their market rate, which is expensive. Equipping them with additional technology probably won't change that fact. Another big risk is that the business won't be able to develop a moat to prevent its market share from flowing freely to competitors. From the perspective of a member, telehealth services are just a means to the end of talking with a clinician. Aaron Rodgers might be on borrowed time with the New York Jets , but interim head coach Jeff Ulbrich says the star quarterback is in no danger of losing his starting job. Ulbrich told reporters on Monday that Rodgers will “absolutely” start for the Jets in Week 13 against the Seattle Seahawks . The coach said there has not been any talk about shutting Rodgers down despite recent rumors regarding the 40-year-old’s health and future in New York. The state government will launch a parliamentary inquiry into regional housing supply as it steps up its effort to tackle the crisis in country Victoria. or signup to continue reading Leader of the House and Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas will give notice of a motion to establish the inquiry on November 27. Premier Jacinta Allan to tackle the housing crisis in October, but no new policies to specifically tackle the issue in the regions. A government spokesperson said the new inquiry would find out what kind of housing country Victorians needed, and how it could best be delivered. Ms Thomas's motion said the inquiry would "get regional MPs out into the communities talking about housing for the next 12 months". It will report back by December 15 2025. An ACM investigation revealed the government's Big Housing Build had already allocated more than its promised $1.25 billion investment to regional Victoria. But it also showed the program was to increase the state's social housing stock by 10 per cent. For every two houses built under the Big Build, the government was having to demolish or sell one, and in regional Victoria the increase in housing was lagging well behind the number of new houses. The government has also started rolling out a $1 billion Regional Housing Fund. under the program, but the 1300 figure now comprises at least 500 existing Homes Victoria dwellings that were previously uninhabitable. A government spokesperson said a key part of the inquiry would be assessing the delivery of the Big Build and Regional Housing Fund to ensure they were providing the promised benefits. It will also investigate the cost of building houses under the programs. The cost per house under the Big Build in regional Victoria ranged from $350,877 in Wangaratta, to $439,024 in Warrnambool. But the 1300 new and "upgraded" houses under the Regional Housing Fund will cost about $770,000 each. The inquiry will be done by the Legislative Assembly's Environment and Planning Committee, chaired by Wendouree MP Juliana Addison. Every regional MP will be expected to build a picture of the housing need in their district, including the ideal mix of social and affordable dwellings. But the inquiry will also explore efficient and innovative building methods, including whether modular and prefabricated housing could improve the amenity of an area quickly and cost-effectively. Another focus will be the need for smaller dwellings compared to three and four-bedroom homes, and whether apartments could efficiently fill the housing need in larger cities. The government's suite of housing announcements in October included cuts to red tape and stamp duty, as well as a plan to force developers to contribute their fair share to local infrastructure. Developers face . In south-west Victoria, councils like Warrnambool City and Moyne Shire have been forced to create their own key worker housing because planning challenges and a lack of developer interest have made new developments rare. In Ballarat, some growth areas have sat in activation limbo while other potential housing areas remain undeveloped because crucial infrastructure is lagging five or 10 years behind housing demand. A government spokesperson said the inquiry would seek input from developers to find out what changes would help them build more housing more quickly in regional areas. The government has also opened a second round of its Regional Worker Accommodation Fund, which offers grants from $150,000 to $5 million to businesses, councils, or community groups to deliver key worker housing. The first round stimulated $250 million in public-private investment for "shovel-ready" regional housing projects. Ms Allan - whose hometown of Bendigo faces one of the biggest housing shortfalls in the state - said the government wanted to give "more families the opportunities they deserve to live in the communities they love".
