California to consider requiring mental health warnings on social media sitesA former Knights lower-grade player is set to try his hand at American football after being announced as one of five players from the Asia-Pacific to join the NFL's International Player Pathway (IPP) program in 2025. Login or signup to continue reading Laitia Moceidreke, who spent about 18 months at the Knights before being released after last season, is set to test his skills alongside the likes of Australian rugby union player Jordan Petaia in the renowned development system. The NFL confirmed the duo's inclusion in the program on Tuesday morning. The other Asia-Pacific athletes are Laki Tasi, Nathaniel Salmon and Janeiro Wakeham. Moceidreke, after joining the Knights in mid-2023 from North Queensland, played 32 NSW Cup games over the past two years but couldn't crack Newcastle's NRL side. The outside-back was upgraded to a development contract in February , outside the top-30 roster, after a handy showing in in Newcastle's first pre-season trial at Gosford. But the 24-year-old appeared to fall out of favour and played a handful of games for Lakes United in the Newcastle Rugby League first-grade competition towards the back end of the 2024 campaign. The IPP, which was established in 2017, aims to create opportunities for players from other sports to play American football at the highest level. Former South Sydney forward turned Philadelphia Eagles star Jordan Mailata is the most well known Australian to have participated in the program. The 2025 edition will feature 14 athletes representing 13 countries. Starting in January, they'll spend 10 weeks training in Florida before auditioning in front of club scouts. Each NFL club can take an international player as an additional roster spot to further their development. More to come. Max McKinney is a sports reporter with the Newcastle Herald. ZOTAC has inadvertently given enthusiasts a sneak peek into NVIDIA’s next-gen RTX 50 series graphics cards. With the highly anticipated Blackwell architecture on the horizon, a recent website oversight provided juicy tidbits about these cutting-edge GPUs, though the leaks have since vanished. Key Details Surface The NVIDIA RTX 5090, which boasts 32 GB of VRAM, leads the pack as the flagship model. Joining it are the RTX 5090D, designed for the Chinese market, alongside the RTX 5080, RTX 5070 Ti, and RTX 5070. These details emerged briefly due to a navigational mishap on ZOTAC’s site, eagerly captured before disappearing. Screenshots Reveal Before the information was scrubbed, a filter menu on the site intriguingly hinted at “GDDR7” and confirmed the RTX 5090’s 32GB VRAM. This confirmation is a significant leap from its predecessor, the RTX 4090. Interestingly, the RTX 5070 Ti also sees an upgrade, increasing its memory capacity by 4 GB over the RTX 4070 Ti. What’s Missing? While excitement builds around these models, the absence of the RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti from the leaked listings suggests they aren’t due just yet. Anticipation builds for NVIDIA’s showcase at CES 2025, where these powerful GPUs could debut, with the RTX 5060 models anticipated slightly later. As eyes are glued on NVIDIA and ZOTAC for more official announcements, tech fans can eagerly look forward to these advancements shaping the future of gaming and graphics performance. NVIDIA RTX 50 Series: A Leap into the Future of Gaming Graphics The surprise reveal of NVIDIA’s next-gen RTX 50 series graphics cards via an accidental leak on ZOTAC’s website has set the tech community abuzz with anticipation. As we edge closer to the official unveiling, many are eager to know about the new, groundbreaking features and specifications these graphics cards will offer. Here’s a closer look at what to expect from the upcoming range, focusing on its innovative architecture, potential capabilities, and the impact it could have on the market. Revolutionizing Graphics with Blackwell Architecture The NVIDIA RTX 50 series is set to introduce the Blackwell architecture, which promises to deliver significant improvements in performance and efficiency over its predecessors. This leap is particularly noticeable in the flagship model, the RTX 5090, which offers an impressive 32 GB of VRAM. Such advancements are poised to redefine the standards of high-resolution gaming and computational tasks. New Memory Standards: A Shift to GDDR7 One of the more intriguing aspects of the leak is the indication of GDDR7 memory within the new RTX 50 lineup. This new standard promises faster data rates and improved energy efficiency compared to the GDDR6 used in current models, enabling smoother performance in gaming and professional applications. Comparative Analysis: RTX 4090 vs. RTX 5090 For enthusiasts looking to compare capabilities, the RTX 5090’s 32 GB VRAM is a substantial upgrade from the RTX 4090’s 24 GB. This expansion in memory capacity suggests enhanced abilities for handling more complex graphical computations and higher-resolution textures, making it ideal for demanding gaming environments and creative workflows. Strategic Market Positioning With the absence of some popular models like the RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti from the initial leaks, NVIDIA appears to be strategically pacing its releases. This calculated approach ensures that each launch creates a buzz, maintaining consumer interest and market momentum leading up to potential announcements at CES 2025. Anticipation and Predictions for CES 2025 As tech enthusiasts anticipate more detailed announcements at CES 2025, expectations are set for NVIDIA to showcase these cutting-edge GPUs officially. The RTX 50 series could very well set new benchmarks in gaming and professional graphics processing, influencing future trends and innovations in the industry. Conclusion: A New Era for Graphics Performance The accidental reveal of NVIDIA’s RTX 50 series graphics cards has only increased excitement surrounding NVIDIA’s future releases. As further details emerge, consumers and industry experts alike are keen to explore the bounds of what Blackwell architecture can achieve. This new series is anticipated to catalyze a dynamic evolution in gaming and graphics technology, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. By TRÂN NGUYỄN SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — California, home to some of the largest technology companies in the world, would be the first U.S. state to require mental health warning labels on social media sites if lawmakers pass a bill introduced Monday. The legislation sponsored by state Attorney General Rob Bonta is necessary to bolster safety for children online, supporters say, but industry officials vow to fight the measure and others like it under the First Amendment. Warning labels for social media gained swift bipartisan support from dozens of attorneys general, including Bonta, after U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy called on Congress to establish the requirements earlier this year, saying social media is a contributing factor in the mental health crisis among young people. “These companies know the harmful impact their products can have on our children, and they refuse to take meaningful steps to make them safer,” Bonta said at a news conference Monday. “Time is up. It’s time we stepped in and demanded change.” State officials haven’t provided details on the bill, but Bonta said the warning labels could pop up once weekly. Up to 95% of youth ages 13 to 17 say they use a social media platform, and more than a third say that they use social media “almost constantly,” according to 2022 data from the Pew Research Center. Parents’ concerns prompted Australia to pass the world’s first law banning social media for children under 16 in November. “The promise of social media, although real, has turned into a situation where they’re turning our children’s attention into a commodity,” Assemblymember Rebecca Bauer-Kahan, who authored the California bill, said Monday. “The attention economy is using our children and their well-being to make money for these California companies.” Lawmakers instead should focus on online safety education and mental health resources, not warning label bills that are “constitutionally unsound,” said Todd O’Boyle, a vice president of the tech industry policy group Chamber of Progress. “We strongly suspect that the courts will set them aside as compelled speech,” O’Boyle told The Associated Press. Victoria Hinks’ 16-year-old daughter, Alexandra, died by suicide four months ago after being “led down dark rabbit holes” on social media that glamorized eating disorders and self-harm. Hinks said the labels would help protect children from companies that turn a blind eye to the harm caused to children’s mental health when they become addicted to social media platforms. “There’s not a bone in my body that doubts social media played a role in leading her to that final, irreversible decision,” Hinks said. “This could be your story.” Common Sense Media, a sponsor of the bill, said it plans to lobby for similar proposals in other states. California in the past decade has positioned itself as a leader in regulating and fighting the tech industry to bolster online safety for children. The state was the first in 2022 to bar online platforms from using users’ personal information in ways that could harm children. It was one of the states that sued Meta in 2023 and TikTok in October for deliberately designing addictive features that keep kids hooked on their platforms. Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, also signed several bills in September to help curb the effects of social media on children, including one to prohibit social media platforms from knowingly providing addictive feeds to children without parental consent and one to limit or ban students from using smartphones on school campus. Federal lawmakers have held hearings on child online safety and legislation is in the works to force companies to take reasonable steps to prevent harm. The legislation has the support of X owner Elon Musk and the President-elect’s son, Donald Trump Jr . Still, the last federal law aimed at protecting children online was enacted in 1998, six years before Facebook’s founding.BIRMINGHAM, Ala. , Dec. 16, 2024 /PRNewswire/ -- RxBenefits, Inc., the employee benefits industry's first technology-enabled pharmacy benefits optimizer (PBO), announced today that Robert Gamble has been appointed Chief Executive Officer, effective immediately. Innoviti Grows Advisory Board with Appointment of Industry Stalwart Nish Kotecha

Penn State fans, and James Franklin , can take a deep breath. Offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki posted on social media Monday night to hint that he plans to stay with Penn State moving forward. “Beyond lucky to be a part of the Penn State Football Family,” he wrote on X . “Still a lot to accomplish this season and I am looking forward to what 2025 has in store for our program!” Kotelnicki’s job status has been under scrutiny since reports surfaced on Dec. 2 that he’d interview at West Virginia for the Mountaineers' open head-coaching job . He went through the process, but clearly, Kotelnicki will remain in Happy Valley. The former Kansas offensive coordinator came to Penn State this offseason with the promise of delivering creative and explosive offensive play. Kotelnicki’s group has scored 33.2 points per game this season, good for 25th in the country, en route to an 11-2 record and a Big Ten Championship berth. While the numbers are a statistical decrease from 36.2 points in 2023, this year’s Penn State squad has been more consistently explosive. The Lions generated 57 plays of 20-plus yards in the regular season compared to 47 in 2023. A 37-point, 518-yard performance against No. 1 Oregon for the conference title was another example of why Kotelnicki was brought in. His work with quarterback Drew Allar and Heisman-candidate tight end Tyler Warren, specifically, has caught national attention for good reason. He’s also notorious for trick plays, like one Penn State ran for Warren against USC in which the tight end both snapped the ball and caught a touchdown . It’s not particularly surprising to see Kotelnicki stick with Penn State this time around, but he’s sure to continue generating head-coaching interest if he also continues to excel with the Nittany Lions. Penn State turns its attention to its home first-round College Football Playoff game, where it will serve as the No. 6 seed and play against the No. 11 seed in SMU .
