Former attorney general nominee Matt Gaetz is now selling $500 videos on Cameo . The disgraced politician’s new business venture comes a day after he withdrew his candidacy to become the Trump Administration’s chief law enforcement official. His withdrawal followed congressional and law enforcement investigations that reportedly concluded he paid for sex with a minor on more than one occasion . “I remain fully committed to see that Donald J. Trump is the most successful President in history,” Gaetz said in a statement ending his candidacy . The 42-year-old right-wing firebrand also said Friday that he wouldn’t try to return to Congress where he’d served as a representative from Florida from 2017 until just last week. That will seemingly leave Gaetz more time to record personalized videos for supporters looking for advice, pep talks or birthday wishes, according to his newly created Cameo page. “Don’t be afraid to get creative with your request, especially for celebrations like weddings, retirements, or bachelor and bachelorette parties that call for a good laugh,” his listing says. Gaetz is following in the footsteps of fellow Republican politicians George Santos and Rudy Giuliani in joining Cameo to cash in on newfound infamy. Santos was expelled from Congress last December when it was learned he lied about almost every aspect of his life to get elected to New York’s 3rd Congressional District. He pleaded guilty to wire fraud and identity theft charges in August, and is scheduled to be sentenced in February. Santos’ videos , which average 44 seconds in length, start at $250. Giuliani — New York City’s former two-term mayor — was indicted on election crimes in May. That case hasn’t gone to trial, though a civil court ordered him to pay $148 million to two election workers he defamed after the 2020 presidential election. He charged $375 per video after joining Cameo in August 2021. Gaetz has not been charged with any crimes and maintains he did nothing wrong.
By SUSAN HAIGH, Associated Press Approximately 1 million taxpayers will automatically receive special payments of up to $1,400 from the IRS in the coming weeks. The money will be directly deposited into eligible people’s bank accounts or sent in the mail by a paper check. The IRS said it’s distributing about $2.4 billion to taxpayers who failed to claim a Recovery Rebate Credit on their 2021 tax returns. People who missed one of the COVID stimulus payments or had received less than the full amount were able to claim the credit. But the IRS on Friday said it discovered many eligible taxpayers hadn’t done so. “Looking at our internal data, we realized that one million taxpayers overlooked claiming this complex credit when they were actually eligible,” IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel said in a statement. Here’s more about the unexpected cash this group of taxpayers will soon receive: Sorry, it’s probably pretty low. The IRS said most taxpayers eligible for the federal stimulus payments, formally known as Economic Impact Payments, have already received them. The special payments announced by the IRS are being sent to those taxpayers who filed a 2021 tax return but left the data field for the Recovery Rebate Credit blank or they filled it out as $0 when they were actually eligible for the credit. Related Articles Eligible taxpayers don’t have to take any action. The payments will go out automatically this month and should arrive by direct deposit or check by late January 2025. They’ll be sent to the bank account listed on the taxpayer’s 2023 return or to the address IRS has on file. Payments will vary but the maximum amount will be $1,400 per individual. The IRS has posted information online about eligibility and how the payment was calculated. IRS plans to send separate letters to eligible taxpayers notifying them of the special payment. You still might be able to receive the money. However, taxpayers need to file a tax return and claim the Recovery Rebate Credit by the April 15, 2025 deadline, even if any income from a job, business or other source was minimal or nonexistent, according to IRS. There were three rounds of payments to households impacted by the pandemic, totaling $814 billion. In March 2020, eligible individuals received up to $1,200 per income tax filer and $500 per child under the CARES Act. "But it's all about balancing out when we can get rest and recuperate. We'll see where that takes us along the playoff chase. I've got to obviously pace myself, but again that situation will guide us to how we get there." The Dodgers open the 2025 season in Japan, where Ohtani is even more closely watched. "My personal goal is to be fully healthy by the time the opening games do start," he said. "To be able to pitch and hit would be great, but the situation will kind of guide itself." Each time Ohtani comes to the plate or steps on the mound, there's great pressure and expectation for him to perform spectacular feats. "I just go out there and try to stay within myself," he said. "I can only control what I can control and that's where you trust your teammates. The guys behind me, you trust they're going to make the plays for you. I don't really try to overthink it."
