Bokaro: Giridih district police have apprehended three individuals who operated as cybercriminals by impersonating as electricity department officials. The culprits used to extort money from citizens by threatening to cut off their power supply. The suspects were caught near Aahardih within Gandey police station jurisdiction, Giridih SP Vimal Kumar said on Sunday. The accused persons are Pankaj Kumar Mandal, Deepak Mandal, and Kailash Mandal, all hailing from Ahilyapur in Giridih district. The authorities seized three mobile phones, SIM cards, and a four wheeler from their possession. Records indicate that Kailash has previous criminal charges against him at the Giridih cyber police station. Following intelligence reports about cybercriminal activities, police conducted a raid to nab the culprits. During questioning, the suspects admitted of calling random individuals pretending to be electricity department staff. They would demand payment for supposedly unpaid bills under the threat of service disconnection. The group also employed a technique of sending APK files through WhatsApp to compromise victims' mobile devices. Become a Member HELSINKI — In Tove Jansson’s first Moomins novel, The Moomins and the Great Flood (1945), the titular characters travel through a frightening forest before a rainstorm causes an epic flood, covering the land in danger and darkness. When the waters begin to recede, the Moomins find they have been swept into a beautiful fertile valley. They decide to stay. Published during the last months of the Second World War, it is easy to read the book as an allegory, with the flood representing the inescapable horrors of war and Moominvalley as an Edenic sanctuary. As an outspoken pacificist, Jansson spent the war years and beyond both protesting conflict and seeking an escape from it. Tove Jansson: Paradise at Helsinki Art Museum captures both aspects of Jansson’s life and work, with a focus on her public art commissions from the 1940s through ’50s. Most of her paintings avoid depicting the realities of war, but two tiny, tatty-edged works on paper speak volumes. Both are city scenes inspired by her travels in Germany in the late 1930s, during which she witnessed the terrifying rise of Nazism. One features a prominent swastika flag, while the other depicts a murky street surrounded by oppressive black buildings. A crowd of shadowy figures moves towards a tiny dot of orange light in an open doorway; are they refugees fleeing toward the hopeful glimmer, or are they fascists rushing to stamp it out? This is the world Jansson wished to escape, especially with an older brother fighting at the front. As she wrote to a friend in 1944, “I’ve never dreamt and planned as much as I have in these past few years. Not as a game — but as an absolute necessity.” As this exhibition shows, Jansson saw dreaming and playfulness as essential relief from the deprivations of war, which continued even after the armistice. Daily Weekly Opportunities In bombed-out Helsinki and beyond, a government rebuilding program created opportunities for artists, and Jansson was able to earn a living for the first time through her Moomin comic strip and a series of public commissions. In both endeavors, she turned to images of paradise, forests, and fairytales to craft a unique imaginative world that appeals to adults as much as to children. Moomin characters make cameos in many of her murals, such as her frescoes “Party in the City” and “Party in the Countryside” (both 1947). In the first of these, Jansson depicts herself gazing out at the viewer, her back turned defiantly on her lover Vivica Bandler, with whom she had recently broken up with acrimoniously. A little Moomintroll lurks on the table beside her, a mascot, perhaps, that represents a gateway to a more fantastical world. Moomin characters feature more frequently in works designed explicitly for children’s spaces, such as her diptych “Fairytale Panorama,” produced for a kindergarten in 1949. The two paintings are delightful flights of fancy, crammed with whimsical details of princesses, magical landscapes, and fantastical creatures. But even here, as in all of her paradisal paintings, there are subtle hints of menace: Bats flutter, lightning bolts threaten a storm, and cats stalk hungrily. This is not pure escapism, but an expression of a state in which joy and fear are allowed to coexist. Many of these murals, including the “Fairytale Panorama,” were made for specific sites and aren’t present in the exhibition. However, the recent discovery of several rolls of preparatory charcoal drawings at 1:1 scale in a corner of the artist’s studio makes some form of presentation here possible. These are not rough sketches but fully worked-out scenes, and merit viewing as artworks in their own right. With their monochrome shadowy strokes, they bear an accidental affinity to Jansson’s earlier sketch of a Nazi-ridden city, and certainly offer a more solemn perspective on the final vibrantly colorful frescoes, which are seen in projections alongside the drawings. A handful of Jansson’s paradise paintings read uncomfortably through a contemporary postcolonial lens, such as one piece produced for a rubber company depicting idealized workers on a plantation. Another pair of paintings, probably produced in 1939 and 1940, are Gaugin-like in their delineation of an imaginary sunny Polynesian island populated by happily unclothed people. Jansson made a number of works in this style with the belief that they would sell and make her some much-needed cash during the brutal Winter War of 1939–40, during which the Soviet Union invaded Finland. She was mistaken; it turned out to be the Moomin comic strips and public commissions that provided her with both the creative and financial lifeline she needed. Jansson’s cross-disciplinary oeuvre demonstrates a radical commitment to the profound necessity of play, dreams, and escapism. She took children seriously, which is reflected in the exhibition’s thoughtful, unobtrusive design. Paintings are hung low to the ground, Moomin creatures hide among the architecture, and there are doors to open and kaleidoscopes to look through. The exhibition — infused with the same knowing nostalgia as her works — is both comforting and subtly subversive. The Herald Sun can reveal the league last week confirmed to club officials it was considering changes to the post-match press conferences to suit clubs, broadcast partners and print media. One preliminary idea floated included putting up senior coaches for Channel 7 and Fox Footy straight after games for their immediate reactions to the result, and a separate interview opportunity for print media. The immediate interview option on television could result in more emotional responses from the club’s most visible and under-pressure figures within minutes of the final siren. Broadcast partners would be eager to have access to senior coaches immediately after the siren rather than waiting at least 20 minutes after the match. But the conversations with club officials were only a starting point and more meaningful discussions will be held between league media bosses and key stakeholders including broadcast partners before the season. The league has tried to open up the game for its fans and media partners to help promote Australian Rules to every corner of the country, helping deliver record memberships and ratings as well as boom growth in Queensland. COPPER MOUNTAIN, Colo. — For a pair of lower-level downhill events, this sure had plenty of Olympic medal-capturing and World Cup-winning ski racers. The stage belonged to Lindsey Vonn, the 40-year-old who took another step on her comeback trail Saturday with her first races in nearly six years. Vonn wasn't particularly speedy and finished in the middle of the pack on a cold but sunny day at Copper Mountain. Times and places weren't the mission, though, as much as getting used to the speed again and gaining the necessary points to compete on the World Cup circuit this season. Vonn accomplished both, finishing 24th in the first downhill race of the day and 27th in the second. She posted on social media after the FIS races that she had enough points to enter World Cup events. The timing couldn't be more perfect — the next stop on the women's circuit is Beaver Creek, Colorado, in a week. Vonn, who used to own a home in nearby Vail, hasn't committed to any sort of timetable for a World Cup return. “Today was a solid start and I had a blast being in start with my teammates again!” Vonn wrote on X. “While I’m sure people will speculate and say I’m not in top form because of the results, I disagree. This was training for me. I’m still testing equipment and getting back in the groove.” Her competition — a veritable who's who of high-profile ski racers — applauded her efforts. “I don't expect her to come back and win — just that she comes back and she has fun,” said Federica Brignone of Italy, a former overall World Cup champion and three-time Olympic medalist. “She's having fun, and she’s doing what she loves. That’s the best thing that she could do.” In the first race on a frigid morning, Vonn wound up 1.44 seconds behind the winning time of 1 minute, 5.79 seconds posted by Mirjam Puchner of Austria. In her second race through the course later in the morning, Vonn was 1.53 seconds behind Cornelia Huetter of Austria, who finished in 1:05.99. Huetter is the reigning season-long World Cup downhill champion. “It’s really nice to compare with her again, and nice to have her (racing) again,” Huetter said. “For sure, for the skiing World Cup, we have a lot of more attention. It's generally good for all racers because everyone is looking.” Also in the field were Nadia Delago of Italy, who won a bronze medal in downhill at the 2022 Beijing Olympics, and Puchner, the Olympic silver winner in super-G in Beijing. In addition, there was Marta Bassino of Italy, a winner of the super-G at the 2023 world championships, and two-time Olympic champion Michelle Gisin of Switzerland. “For me, it was really a training, but it was fun to have a World Cup race level right here,” Gisin said. “It was a crazy race.” Vonn remains a popular figure and took the time after each run to sign autographs for young fans along with posing for photos. When she left the sport, Vonn had 82 World Cup race victories, which stood as the record for a woman and within reach of the all-time Alpine record of 86 held by Swedish standout Ingemar Stenmark. The women’s mark held by Vonn was surpassed in January 2023 by Mikaela Shiffrin, who now has 99 wins — more than any Alpine ski racer in the history of the sport. Shiffrin is currently sidelined after a crash in a giant slalom event in Killington, Vermont, last weekend. Vonn’s last major race was in February 2019, when she finished third in a downhill during the world championships in Sweden. The three-time Olympic medalist left the circuit still near the top of her game. But all the broken arms and legs, concussions and torn knee ligaments took too big a toll and sent her into retirement. She had a partial knee replacement last April and felt good enough to give racing another shot. “It's very impressive to see all the passion that Lindsey still has,” Gisin said. Also racing Saturday was 45-year-old Sarah Schleper, who once competed for the United States but now represents Mexico. Schleper was the next racer behind Vonn and they got a chance to share a moment between a pair of 40-somethings still racing. “I was like, ‘Give me some tips, Lindsey,’” Schleper said. “She’s like, ‘Oh, it’s a highway tuck, the whole thing.’ Then she’s like, ‘It’s just like the good old days.’"

"Crypto has certainly caught many's attention, and they've made a lot of money doing it," Rick Wurster, the bank's current president, told in a Thursday interview. "I have not bought crypto, and now I feel silly." Wurster explained why he's been reluctant to invest in crypto. "Well, I think what's holding me back is just a question around the true value of crypto," he said. "I like to invest in stocks, and with stocks there's cash flows you can rely upon, there's dividends that accrue to you. With crypto, it's less certain what that will be and it's less certain how to value it." Wurster said that he supports clients who want to invest in crypto, which has soared to new highs following Donald Trump's reelection. Bitcoin was trading hundreds of dollars away from the $100,000 mark on Friday as Trump reportedly considers candidates for a new " " in his administration. The company cited stagnating global auto sales, too much factory capacity in the auto industry compared with sales prospects and a slower than expected transition to electric-powered, software-controlled vehicles. The news comes two days after Ford Motor Co. announced plans to drop 4,000 jobs in Europe , and with Volkswagen employees threatening work stoppages over what they say management has told them are plans to close as many as three factories in Germany. Revenue at Stellantis , created through the 2021 merger of PSA Peugeot and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, tumbled 27% in its most recent quarter that ended this fall. Auto sales have slowed this year in Europe as consumers stung by inflation hold back on spending, while automakers have sunk billions into developing electric cars only to see slower sales than expected and new competition from cheaper Chinese brands. The German government abruptly cancelled purchase incentives at the end of last year, sending electric vehicles sales in that country down by 27% over the first nine months of this year. Some 3,500 of the job reductions at Bosch would come before the end of 2027 and would hit the part of the company that develops advanced driver assistance and automated driving technologies, as well as centralized vehicle software, said Bosch, which is headquartered in Gerlingen near Stuttgart. SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — San Francisco quarterback Brock Purdy will miss Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers with a sore throwing shoulder, dealing another blow to the 49ers' playoff hopes. Purdy injured his right shoulder in last Sunday's . He underwent an MRI on Monday that showed no structural damage and the team initially thought he could play this week. But when Purdy's shoulder didn't feel right when he made a few warmup throws at practice Thursday, those plans changed. “We thought he just needed some rest and we really weren’t concerned about him not being good this week,” coach Kyle Shanahan said Friday. “But when he started up Thursday, it just surprised him, surprised us how it felt. So we had to shut him down.” Shanahan said the team doesn't believe the injury is a long-term concern but he is uncertain whether Purdy will need to miss any additional time. “The MRI doesn’t look like that, so it should be all right,” Shanahan said. “But the way it responded this week, it’s really up in the air for next week.
