US stocks experience mixed fortunes on quiet day of trading
The mother of Upper Hutt teen Maia Johnston - who was missing for two days - says her daughter has a long recovery ahead after falling at a waterfall. The 19-year-old went missing on Saturday night and was last seen leaving a family home in the suburb of Totara Park during heavy rain. She was found injured with a broken leg and ribs, but alive, early on Monday in the hills above Upper Hutt. Family members and friends embraced Johnston as she was carried out of the bush by search and rescue, and loaded into an ambulance. She was taken to hospital and treated for her broken bones and a split lip. Posting on social media, Johnston's mother Amy Walsh said her daughter had "a long recovery ahead". "She's in her first of many surgeries now and will be in hospital for several weeks. "Thank you again to each and every person who supported us in getting her back." Walsh went on to detail how her daughter came to have several broken bones. "She has fought like a trooper for 42 hours alone after falling at a waterfall and getting some quite bad injuries... "[It's] thankfully nothing that can't be fixed. One day at a time." Police thanked the Upper Hutt community for the way they rallied around search staff and the family. Rescue co-ordinator Penny Clash said it was the best outcome after a mammoth effort to find Maia. "The Totara Park team, the people, the community have just rallied together and it just shows what an awesome community Totara Park is. "It's quite a close-knit community and this really showed it." Novak Djokovic says his rivalry with Andy Murray has “one final chapter” after his long-time adversary joined him as his coach for the upcoming Australian Open. Murray – Britain’s greatest ever player – retired after this summer’s Olympics at the age of 37 after finally admitting defeat in his battle against his body. Many in the game expected the Scot would one day return to tennis and become a coach, particularly due to his love of the sport, hard work and his tactical acumen. The attached video announced Murray, who he lost to in two Slam finals but beat in four Australian showpieces, would coach him over the winter and through January’s Open in Melbourne. “We played each other since we were boys, 25 years of pushing each other to our limits. We had some of the most epic battles in in our sport. They called us gamechangers, risk-takers, history-makers,” Djokovic said. “I thought our story may be over. Turns out it has one final chapter. It’s time for one of my toughest opponents to step into my corner. Earlier this month, Google released new some details about its use of AI to block spam and dangerous messages from reaching your email. Now though, it looks like this same technology could be coming to Google Chrome too. As reported by BleepingComputer , a new “Client Side Detection Brand and Intent for Scam Detection” Chrome feature was spotted by Leopeva64 on X . Just like with Gmail's recent upgrade, this feature uses a Large Language Model to analyze potential threats. In this case though, it’s not emails that are being analyzed but web pages on your devices, and the feature searches through brands and the intent of the pages you see when navigating across different sites. This new AI feature is believed to power a scam detection service which understands the associated brand and purpose of each page you visit online. This will help make it even easier to identify sites that could potentially be fraudulent in nature. Though Google hasn't share any specific details yet on how this feature works or how to turn it on, you will be able to use it on Mac, Windows and Linux once it rolls out next year. This new tool is currently being tested in Chrome Canary and it could be related to Google's existing Enhanced Protection feature which has been using AI to provide real time protection against dangerous sites, downloads and extensions since November of this year. Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara made the announcement in a terse message late Thursday, saying the investigation would focus on the findings of a recent report by the “Uvda” investigative program into Sara Netanyahu. The program uncovered a trove of WhatsApp messages in which Mrs. Netanyahu appears to instruct a former aide to organize protests against political opponents and to intimidate Hadas Klein, a key witness in the trial. The announcement did not mention Mrs. Netanyahu by name, and the Justice Ministry declined further comment. But in a video released earlier Thursday, Netanyahu listed what he said were the many kind and charitable acts by his wife and blasted the Uvda report as “lies.” “My opponents on the left and in the media found a new-old target. They mercilessly attack my wife, Sara,” he said. He called the program ”false propaganda, nasty propaganda that brings up lies from the darkness.” It was the latest in a long line of legal troubles for the Netanyahus — highlighted by the prime minister's ongoing corruption trial. The pair have also had a rocky relationship with the Israeli media. Netanyahu is charged with fraud, breach of trust and accepting bribes in a series of cases alleging he exchanged favors with powerful media moguls and wealthy associates. Netanyahu denies the charges and says he is the victim of a “witch hunt” by overzealous prosecutors, police and the media. The report obtained correspondence between Sara Netanyahu and Hanni Bleiweiss, a former aide to the prime minister who died of cancer last year. The messages indicated that Sara Netanyahu, through Bleiweiss, encouraged police to crack down violently on anti-government protesters and ordered Bleiweiss to organize protests against her husband's critics. She also told Bleiweiss to get activists in Netanyahu's Likud party to publish attacks on Klein. Klein is an aide to billionaire Hollywood mogul Arnon Milchan and has testified in the corruption case about her role in delivering tens of thousands of dollars worth of champagne, cigars and gifts to Netanyahu for her boss. According to the report, Bleiweiss also was instructed to organize demonstrations outside the homes of the lead prosecutor in the corruption case, Liat Ben-Ari, and then Attorney General Avichai Mandelblit, who had issued the indictments, and protests and social media campaigns smearing political opponents. According to the report, Bleiweiss was a loyal aid to Netanyahu for decades. But while she was ill, it said Sara Netanyahu mistreated her, prompting her to share the messages with a reporter shortly before her death. Sara Netanyahu has been accused of abusive behavior toward her personal staff before. This, together with accusations of excessive spending and using public money for her own extravagant personal tastes, has earned her an image as being out of touch with everyday Israelis. In 2019, she was fined for misusing state funds. National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir, who oversees police and has repeatedly said the attorney general, Baharav-Miara, should be fired over a series of grievances against her, said the latest announcement was another reason for her to be dismissed. “Someone who politically persecutes government ministers and their families cannot continue to serve as the attorney general,” he said.
