Hidden among the famed Terracotta Army, this rare find is unlike anything seen in decades, shedding new light on the organisation and leadership of an army frozen in time for over two millennia. 3 A rare terracotta warrior commander was unearthed after 30 years of digging Credit: Bill Dickinson / Flickr 3 Among the 2,000 terracotta figurines unearthed to date, only 10 have been identified as high-ranking officers Credit: Getty 3 The warriors were crafted with incredible attention to detail and equipped with weapons Credit: Getty The breakthrough came in Pit Two of the sprawling mausoleum in Shaanxi province, where researchers unearthed a life-sized statue believed to depict a high-ranking general. Distinguished by its ornate armour, elaborate headdress, and distinctive posture, the figure is only the 10th officer found since the Terracotta Army was first discovered in 1974. “Based on its location, we believe this figure was likely the highest-ranking military commander of this unit," said Zhu Sihong, head of the excavation project. Accompanying the general were two chariots, three clay horses, and two additional figurines. These artefacts offer a rare glimpse into the strategic formations and command structure of the Qin dynasty’s military, believed to have been created to protect Emperor Qin Shi Huang in the afterlife. The Terracotta Army, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987, has long been one of the most iconic archaeological discoveries of modern times. Originally stumbled upon by local farmers digging a well, the site has since revealed over 2,000 life-size statues, with experts estimating as many as 8,000 remain buried. As archaeologists continue their work, the Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang remains a glimpse into the complexity of China’s ancient past and of the emperor’s vision for immortality. What are the Terracotta Warriors? THE Terracotta Warriors are a collection of life-sized clay statues that were created to accompany Emperor Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China, in his mausoleum. These figures, buried over 2,000 years ago, are part of a vast funerary complex in Xi’an, Shaanxi province, constructed to protect the emperor in the afterlife. Discovered in 1974 by local farmers digging a well, the warriors are considered one of the most significant archaeological discoveries of the 20th century. They are arranged in military formations across three large pits and represent the emperor's army. Archaeologists have excavated over 2,000 figures, but it is estimated there could be as many as 8,000 still buried. The army includes infantry soldiers, archers, cavalry, charioteers, and generals, as well as horses and chariots. Each warrior is unique, with individualised facial features, hairstyles, and expressions. They were originally painted in vibrant colours, though much of the paint has faded over time. The figures were equipped with real weapons, such as swords, spears, and crossbows. Many of these weapons were advanced for their time, showcasing the sophistication of Qin dynasty military technology. The statues were crafted using a combination of molds and hand sculpting. They were made in pieces and then assembled, standing approximately 6 feet tall and weighing hundreds of pounds each. The Terracotta Army was intended to be a guardian force to protect Emperor Qin Shi Huang in the afterlife and ensure his continued dominance even after death. The site, now part of the Mausoleum of the First Qin Emperor, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and continues to be an active archaeological excavation, with new discoveries still being made.

Kanpur (UP) Dec 25 (PTI) Another FIR has been registered against the Proivincial Police Services (PPS) officer Mohammad Mohsin Khan, accused of sexually exploiting an IIT research scholar, for criminal intimidation and defaming her, said police on Wednesday. IIT-Kanpur's PhD student alleged that the then Assistant CP (collectorganj) Khan threatened her of serious consequences and made objectionable posts with intent to defame her by levelling fake charges. Assistant CP (Kalyanpur) Abhishek Pandey said one more FIR has been lodged against Khan, a 2013 batch PPS officer, and advocate Gaurav Dixit under relevant sections of the Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita and the Information Technology (IT) Act at Kalyanpur police station on Tuesday. The then ACP and the lawyer would be called for questioning if the need arise, Pandey added. The ACP and his lawyer allegedly made a tweet and shared objectionable posts on social media platforms with intent to defame her. The IIT-Kanpur rape survivor has met senior officials, including Commissioner of Police, Akhil Kumar, who instructed the Kalyanpur police to lodge another FIR against the PPS officer and his advocate. She alleged Khan and his advocate levelled fake charge against her that she attempted to kill an infant. She further accused Mohsin and his advocate of misguiding the court and claiming she was already married, while she was never married. The victim stood firmly on her claims that Khan sexually exploited her under false pretence of marrying her. A five-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by Additional DCP (Traffic) Archana Singh was constituted to probe the matter, police said. The IIT-K scholar met the SIT members and provided them with the chat history allegedly showing that the ACP had made "indecent and lewd" remarks. Khan was transferred to police headquarters on December 12 after being booked for allegedly seeking "sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means”. According to police, Khan had enrolled at IIT-Kanpur five months ago to pursue a PhD in cybercrime and criminology. While studying at the institute, he reportedly developed a relationship with the research scholar and promised to marry her after divorcing his wife. But later when the officer refused to fulfil his promise, the woman filed a complaint of rape. IIT-Kanpur Director Manindra Agrawal had said in a statement, "As is well known now, a girl student of IIT-K has accused a police officer of sexual exploitation and filed a complaint. The institute is committed to provide all the necessary support to the student at this difficult time." DAILY POST reports that France has found itself in the throes of a diplomatic crisis in Africa, particularly in West Africa, where it has, for decades, maintained a stranglehold on its former colonies. Shaubu in a statement issued Thursday noted that the romance with France must be approached with vigilance and an unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s sovereignty, dignity, and leadership in Africa. He said: “While the motivations behind this newfound partnership remain speculative, one thing is clear: France’s interest in Nigeria is not altruistic. It is rooted in self-preservation and the desperate attempt to maintain a foothold in a region that has increasingly grown hostile to its machinations. “For Nigeria, the stakes are high. Any alliance with France must be scrutinized through the lens of national interest and historical experience.” Phrank noted that the administration of President Bola Tinubu must tread carefully, adding that Nigeria cannot afford to become a stepping stone for France’s resurgence in West Africa, nor can it allow itself to be manipulated into a subservient role in a relationship historically marked by exploitation. He added: “The romance with France must be approached with vigilance and an unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s sovereignty, dignity, and leadership in Africa. “The question, therefore, is not just where this alliance is heading, but whether it is worth the price Nigeria may have to pay. Only time will tell if this partnership will serve Nigeria’s interests or if it will reduce the nation to yet another pawn in France’s relentless quest for dominance in Africa.” Related Topics: Atiku France Don't Miss No fewer than 20 children killed in Pakistan airstrikes – UN confirms You may like 2027: Okupe explains why Atiku can’t be President Sokoto airstrike: Learn from past tragedies – Atiku tells Nigerian military France offering Nigeria funds to destabilize Niger Republic, neighbouring countries – General Tiani alleges Christmas: Time to confront root cause of our struggles – Atiku to Nigerians 2025 budget cannot address Nigeria’s economic challenges – Atiku Stampede: Atiku mourns victims, seeks utmost care in crowd management Advertise About Us Contact Us Privacy-Policy Terms Copyright © Daily Post Media Ltd

Kathmandu, Dec 26: The government has formed a recommendation committee for the appointment of Chairperson of Nepal Insurance Authority. A meeting of the Council of Ministers held on Tuesday formed such committee under the coordination of a National Planning Commission member, Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung said on Thursday announcing the decisions of the cabinet meeting. Finance Secretary and Joyti Chandra Ojha are the members in the committee. Likewise, the cabinet meeting has formed a recommendation committee under the chair of Chairman of Public Service Commission for the appointment of members in the Teachers Service Commission. Vice Chancellor of Tribhuvan University and Secretary at the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology are the members of the committee. Minister Gurung said that the cabinet meeting has decided to fix penalty, as per the Chapter 3 of the Money Laundering Prevention Act 2008, to those involved in misappropriation, human smuggling, Hundi, virtual currency, match fixing and embezzlement and operation of casinos without taking license. Furthermore, the meeting has given theoretical permission to formulate a bill on facilities to the former VIPs. According to Minister Gurung, the cabinet meeting appointed members of the National Sports Council. The appointees include Shanti Kumari Chaudhary (Jhapa), Ananda Kumar Jha (Saptari), Suwarna Shrestha (Lalitpur), Kamal Bahadur Bhattarai (Sarlahi), Himal Kumar Shrestha (Gulmi), Nanda Basyal (Surkhet), Jagat Singh Dhami (Darchula) and Bhan Bahaadur Chand (Kanchanpur). The cabinet meeting also promoted Joint Secretary Madhu Prasad Bhetuwal to the post of Secretary and deputed him at the Water and Energy Commission Secretariat, Minister Gurung said.(RSS)LAS VEGAS — Players Era Festival organizers have done what so many other have tried — bet their fortunes in this city that a big payoff is coming. Such bet are usually bad ones, which is why so many massive casino-resorts have been built on Las Vegas Boulevard. But it doesn't mean the organizers are wrong. They're counting on the minimum of $1 million in guaranteed name, image and likeness money that will go to each of the eight teams competing in the neutral-site tournament that begins Tuesday will create a precedent for other such events. EverWonder Studios CEO Ian Orefice, who co-founded Players with former AND1 CEO Seth Berger, compared this event to last year's inaugural NBA In-Season Tournament that played its semifinals and final in Las Vegas by saying it "did really well to reinvigorate the fan base at the beginning of the year." "We're excited that we're able to really change the paradigm in college basketball on the economics," Orefice said. "But for us, it's about the long term. How do we use the momentum that is launching with the 2024 Players Era Festival and be the catalyst not to change one event, but to change college basketball for the future." Orefice and Berger didn't disclose financial details, but said the event will come close to breaking even this year and that revenue is in eight figures. Orefice said the bulk of the revenue will come from relationships with MGM, TNT Sports and Publicis Sport & Entertainment as well as sponsors that will be announced later. Both organizers said they are so bullish on the tournament's prospects that they already are planning ahead. Money made from this year's event, Orefice said, goes right back into the company. "We're really in this for the long haul," Orefice said. "So we're not looking at it on a one-year basis." Rick Giles is president of the Gazelle Group, which also operates several similar events, including the College Basketball Invitational. He was skeptical the financial numbers would work. Giles said in addition to more than $8 million going to the players, there were other expenses such as the guarantees to the teams. He said he didn't know if the tournament would make up the difference with ticket sales, broadcast rights and sponsorship money. The top bowl of the MGM Grand Garden Arena will be curtained off. "The math is highly challenging," Giles said. "Attendance and ticket revenues are not going to come anywhere close to covering that. They haven't announced any sponsors that I'm aware of. So it all sort of rests with their media deal with Turner and how much capital they want to commit to it to get these players paid." David Carter, a University of Southern California adjunct professor who also runs the Sports Business Group consultancy, said even if the Players isn't a financial success this year, the question is whether there will be enough interest to move forward. "If there is bandwidth for another tournament and if the TV or the streaming ratings are going to be there and people are going to want to attend and companies are going to want to sponsor, then, yeah, it's probably going to work," Carter said. "But it may take them time to gain that traction." Both founders said they initially were met with skepticism about putting together such an event, especially from teams they were interested in inviting. Houston was the first school to commit, first offering an oral pledge early in the year and then signing a contract in April. That created momentum for others to join, and including the No. 6 Cougars, half the field is ranked. "We have the relationships to operate a great event," Berger said. "We had to get coaches over those hurdles, and once they knew that we were real, schools got on board really quickly." The founders worked with the NCAA to make sure the tournament abided by that organization's rules, so players must appear at ancillary events in order to receive NIL money. Strict pay for play is not allowed, though there are incentives for performance. The champion, for example, will receive $1.5 million in NIL money. Now the pressure is on to pull off the event and not create the kind of headlines that can dog it for years to come. "I think everybody in the marketplace is watching what's going to happen (this) week and, more importantly, what happens afterwards," Giles said. "Do the players get paid on a timely basis? And if they do, that means that Turner or somebody has paid way more than the market dictates? And the question will be: Can that continue?" CREIGHTON: P oint guard Steven Ashworth likely won’t play in the No. 21 Bluejays’ game against San Diego State in the Players Era Festival in Las Vegas. Ashworth sprained his right ankle late in a loss to Nebraska on Friday and coach Greg McDermott said afterward he didn’t know how long he would be out. Get local news delivered to your inbox!

Manmohan Singh Passes Away: RBI Governor, Union Finance Minister, and two time Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh passed away at the age of 92 on Thursday, 26 December. Dr Manmohan Singh, who served as India's Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014 and as Finance Minister from 1991 to 1996, is widely regarded as the architect of India's economic liberalisation. Manmohan Singh's policies transformed the Indian economy, steering it towards a market-driven model and integrating it into the global economy. Here are five major reforms that defined his tenure and legacy. 1. Abolition of the Licence Raj One of Manmohan Singh 's most significant reforms was the dismantling of the Licence Raj, a complex system of permits and regulations that stifled private enterprise and economic growth. This reform was crucial during the economic crisis of 1991 when India faced severe balance of payments issues. Manmohan Singh's decision to abolish these restrictions allowed for greater freedom in business operations, encouraging entrepreneurship and attracting foreign investment. As he noted, “We were importing significantly more than we were exporting, and our foreign exchange reserves were critically low.” 2. Trade Liberalisation and Import Tariff Reduction Manmohan Singh' s policies included substantial reductions in import tariffs, which facilitated trade and made foreign goods more accessible to Indian consumers. By slashing tariffs from over 300% to around 50%, De. Manmohan Singh opened up the Indian market to global competition. This move not only benefited consumers through lower prices but also stimulated domestic industries to innovate and improve their products. The introduction of these measures marked a significant shift towards a more open economy. 3. Encouragement of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) Under Manmohan Singh ’s leadership, India saw a remarkable increase in foreign direct investment. His government implemented policies that eased restrictions on FDI across various sectors, including telecommunications, insurance, and retail. This influx of foreign capital not only bolstered economic growth but also created jobs and improved infrastructure. Manmohan Singh’s approach to FDI was instrumental in positioning India as an attractive destination for international investors. 4. Tax Reforms Dr Manmohan Singh introduced comprehensive tax reforms aimed at broadening the tax base and simplifying the tax structure. He raised the income tax exemption limit while reducing the number of tax slabs from four to three, which made compliance easier for taxpayers. Additionally, Manmohan Singh lowered the maximum marginal rate of personal income tax from 56% to 40%. These reforms improved revenue generation for the government while fostering a more conducive environment for economic activity. 5. National Food Security Act During his tenure as Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh championed social welfare initiatives, including the National Food Security Act (NFSA) in 2013. This landmark legislation aimed to provide subsidised food grains to nearly two-thirds of India's population, ensuring that food security became a fundamental right for citizens. The NFSA represented a significant step towards addressing hunger and malnutrition in India, highlighting Singh's commitment to social equity alongside economic growth.Homelessness. It’s a word that stirs images in people’s minds — of addiction, despair, mental illness. Too often, I’ve heard people talk about those without homes like they’re not human; they’re just a social problem to solve. “They choose that life,” some say dismissively as if anyone would choose to struggle to find a bathroom, a meal, or a safe place to sleep. What if I told you I lived it? That I was homeless, all while working full-time, helping my community and prioritizing others over myself. At first, I didn’t want to share my story. There’s a deep sense of shame and guilt tied to being homeless. It feels like admitting failure. Even as someone who advocates for housing as a right, I struggled to ask for help. I worried about being judged or seen as less capable because I wasn’t “stable.” But the truth is, homelessness isn’t about laziness or poor choices — it’s about a lack of support systems, about gaps in the safety net that let people fall through. During my homelessness, I experienced things I never thought I would. I hauled water just to have something drinkable. I used the gym not for exercise, but to access hot, clean water for a shower. I sat in the dark some nights because I had no power, and I learned to let go of comforts I once took for granted: watching TV, having reliable internet, or even enjoying a snack before bed. Laundry became a logistical nightmare with no nearby laundromats. Sometimes, finding a clean pair of socks felt like a victory. I lived in my car, in hotels, on couches, and even in my trailer this summer. Each situation came with its own challenges, from the physical discomfort to the emotional toll of feeling unmoored. Through it all, I kept working. I helped others find housing while quietly navigating my own homelessness. Each day, I prioritized the needs of my community over my own, carrying their stories, their struggles, and their pain alongside my own. And yet, even in my darkest moments, I found light. Family and friends stepped up in ways I never expected. Their support reminded me of the strength in community and the humility in receiving help. This journey taught me more than I ever imagined about the realities of homelessness. It’s not just about having no roof; it’s about the lack of resources to regain stability. Sometimes, people need more than a home — they need personal support, counselling, or health services. Homelessness is rarely a standalone issue; it’s tied to broader challenges that require collective solutions. Now, I want to acknowledge those who are struggling. To anyone who is unhoused, at risk, or just barely holding on: You are seen. You are valued. And you are not alone. I know this because I’ve been there. What I didn’t tell you earlier is that I’m the housing navigator for Whitefish River First Nation . Yes, the person responsible for helping others find housing was, for a time, homeless. Some might see that as ironic, but I see it as an opportunity. My experience brought me closer to the people I serve. It taught me humility, resilience, and the importance of walking alongside others with empathy and understanding. This is why I do the work I do. I carry my story with me because it’s part of the community’s story. My journey has given me a deeper connection to my people and a renewed determination to advocate for solutions that address not just housing, but the holistic needs of those without it. Together, we can create a world where no one feels invisible or unheard. Because being homeless isn’t just about having no roof—it’s about finding the support and humanity we all deserve. T. If Monday.com consistently converts companies to paid users and moves them up the pricing ladder, it will have a long growth runway. Elite execution, evidenced by its stellar Rule of 40 score Competition is fierce in enterprise software, with so many players that it can be hard to find the best of the bunch. Investors can use the Rule of 40 to identify which companies are performing at a high level. The Rule of 40 is a straightforward metric that measures a company's ability to grow without sacrificing profitability. Add a company's revenue growth rate to its free cash flow margin to calculate its Rule of 40 score. Anything 40 or above is typically considered a strong score: MNDY Operating Revenue (Quarterly YoY Growth) data by YCharts As you can see above, Monday.com grew revenue by 32.8% year over year in Q3 while converting 32.6% of its revenue to cash flow. That's a Rule of 40 score of just over 65, easily topping the standard benchmark. In other words, Monday.com's growth and pricing power show up in its financials. The stock is priced right after this decline Valuing Monday.com by its enterprise value against its revenue, the stock is well below its value coming out of the Everything stock market bubble in 2020 to 2021: MNDY EV to Revenues (Forward) data by YCharts Its valuation stands out (in a good way) compared to some of Wall Street's other top technology stocks, like CrowdStrike Holdings and Palantir Technologies . CrowdStrike's enterprise value-to-revenue ratio is almost double Monday.com's, yet it scored a lower Rule of 40 in Q3 (51). Palantir's Q3 Rule of 40 was a staggering 87, but its valuation is equally off the charts at an enterprise value-to-revenue ratio of 64. I would argue that Monday.com delivers better financial performance than most stocks today, yet its valuation is very reasonable compared to where other top tech stocks trade. If the company can continue its current path, Monday.com has a good shot at market-beating long-term investment results. If that happens, the stock probably won't stay this cheap forever.

The company debuts with a carefully selected collection of experiences across five countries: Italy, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, and Croatia, with more countries to follow rapidly. Founded by San Francisco-based entrepreneurs Vinitaa Jayson and Alok Singh, Fernwayer aims to redefine luxury in travel by emphasizing authentic connection, exclusive access, and immersive storytelling. "We aim to flip the itinerary: adventures first, logistics later," explains Jayson. "Most travelers secure accommodation and flights months in advance but often leave booking experiences until the last minute. By then, the best experiences are sold out, and they end up settling for the ordinary. We're changing that by offering highly differentiated experiences, available for booking months in advance, easily and instantly." "We choose to partner with Experience Makers based on their storytelling skills, cultural insight, and welcomingness—our goal is to offer experiences where the expertise of a professional truly makes the difference," adds Jayson. Imagine stepping into Venice’s Carnevale with an expert, capturing the elegance of timeless masks and costumes through your lens. Or watching sunrise from the slopes of Mount Etna , followed by a homemade Sicilian lunch with locals. In Porto , feel the thrill of negotiating the day’s catch with fishermen. Hike through Toubkal National Park with a mountain guide who has deep connections with the Berber community, or dance through Seville’s Feria de Abril , complete with a Sevillana masterclass and a horse-drawn carriage ride. "Uncurated platforms overwhelm travelers with endless, lookalike options, reducing experiences to bare-bones offerings and turning tours into transactions,” says Singh. “Travel agencies inflate prices with opaque, marked-up packages, while layers of intermediaries drive up costs and force weeks of email back-and-forth—only to push generic options from the agent’s playbook in the end, instead of the differentiation that travelers crave. At Fernwayer, we cut through the noise with curated, one-of-a-kind experiences, transparent pricing, instant booking, and a commitment to equitable practices." Fernwayer's experiences span arts and crafts, design and architecture, cultural immersion, gastronomy, photography, social impact initiatives, and outdoor adventures. Most experiences are private and limited to two to eight participants, ensuring intimate and meaningful connections. “We've learned that true luxury is about the richness of experience rather than traditional comforts. It isn’t defined by 'stars'—not a 5-star hotel, not a first-class flight,” says Jayson. “It’s about unrateable moments: being welcomed like a friend in places typically inaccessible to tourists, engaging in heartfelt conversations that reveal new perspectives, or capturing the perfect photo with guidance from a local expert. Travel should be more than just a journey from point A to point B. It should touch the heart, inspire curiosity, create empathy and foster real human connection.” Travelers can now book experiences through the Fernwayer website ( fernwayer.com ) or with a companion mobile app , available for iOS devices, that includes unique planning features such as Travel Goals , Dreamboards for saving favorite experiences, and an itinerary builder called Journeys . About Fernwayer Fernwayer is a marketplace connecting discerning travelers with carefully crafted, authentic, locally-sourced experiences. Founded by entrepreneurs with a vision for sustainable luxury tourism, the company champions travel experiences that enrich both visitors and local communities. The name "Fernwayer," inspired by the German word "fernweh" (an aching for unfamiliar places), reflects the company's commitment to meaningful travel that sustains and enriches destinations for generations to come.
