Earlier, the US giant was aiming to roll out the service in the first quarter of 2025 but is now keen to accelerate the process, they added. More so, as it is the only large ecommerce firm without a presence in what is India’s fastest growing online business. The launch of Tez in India—which is only a working title for the proposed business—will mark Amazon’s first foray into the quick commerce business globally. According to people briefed on the plans, the matter will be discussed in the next monthly review slated for the first week of December—ahead of its annual Smbhav event. Amazon’s India grocery and essentials team described the project as a ‘greenfield, grounds-up initiative for an upcoming and fast-growing ecommerce space in India’, according to a job post. The final name for the quick commerce service is yet to be decided, sources added. ET first reported about Amazon’s plans on a quick commerce offering in its edition of August 28. “They (Amazon) want to launch it sooner than the end of first quarter in India. Quick commerce is where all the action is if you are a meaningful consumer internet platform. They are also following the same model as others—setting up dark stores, figuring out the details of stock-keeping units (SKUs) and categories, and putting logistics infrastructure in place,” another person aware of the matter said. The company is expected to start the service with groceries and daily essentials. An email sent to Amazon India did not elicit any response till press time Sunday. While Amazon India has its own delivery network in India, it has also engaged with other logistics players for quick delivery services. ETtech Quick moves Flipkart—Amazon’s arch-rival in India—launched its quick service, Minutes , before the start of this year’s festive season sales during September-October and has since scaled the service in major cities. Also in the fray is Tata-owned BigBasket, which has made a shift to the quick model, and has clocked over Rs 900 crore in gross sales last month, people in the know said. Meanwhile, Tata Digital—which runs Tata Neu—has also rolled out its own quick commerce service Neu Flash , which was first reported by ET on October 28. Amazon had discussed a potential deal with Swiggy Instamart before the food delivery company listed on the bourses in early November. The rush of capital into the quick commerce sector has only added to all the platforms scaling their operations aggressively. Last week, Zepto raised another $350 million , adding to its over $1 billion cash-pile while Zomato , parent of Blinkit, has also secured shareholder nod to raise another $1 billion through QIP. “We expect the quick commerce market size to overtake that of food delivery in 2026 in terms of gross order value (GOV). Given a larger addressable market, despite high competition, we see scope for each player to grow materially over the next 3-5 years. The challenge of growth and market share loss comes when the overall market itself has matured,” Morgan Stanley said in a note earlier this month on quick commerce and Zomato-Blinkit. “Overall download share of quick commerce apps has increased in the last 6 and 12 months relative to ecommerce apps, as per third party data,” it said. The report estimated a bear and bull case for the quick commerce market at $25 billion and $55 billion, respectively, by 2030. The projections indicate a similar rise in key metrics like households using ultra-fast delivery, monthly transacting users and their frequency of quick orders. Quick commerce is expected to be just under $7 billion in size for 2024. “In our assumptions, we have assumed that high frequency or high value users would increase from one third to almost half of the total platform and they would account for almost 75-80% of the total value of the business by 2030,” the Morgan Stanley note added on its outlook for 10-30 minute delivery services. Amazon India changes Meanwhile, Amazon India has seen a change of guard at the top with company veteran Samir Kumar taking over the India head role following Manish Tiwary’s exit . The local arm of the US firm is also moving its Bengaluru headquarters in January closer to the airport in the city where the total rent outgo will be less. This is in line with the broader changes in Amazon India where it is looking to curtail costs at various operating metrics. Walmart-owned Flipkart continues to be the market leader in the ecommerce sector besides others like Meesho, Tata Neu and Reliance JioMart also operating in the sector. In FY24, Amazon’s India marketplace unit posted a 14% jump in operating revenue at Rs 25,406 crore while also cutting losses by 28% during the year to Rs 3,469 crore. While this is higher than the 3% revenue increase in FY23, it still lagged growth rates seen during the pandemic period, when revenue grew by 32% and 49% in FY22 and FY21 respectively. Its other India units—payments, transportation— saw a modest 7-9% revenue growth while there was a marginal dip in its wholesale business.Trump named Time’s Person of the Year for historic second time
The Pittsburgh Steelers, led by quarterback Russell Wilson, meet the Cleveland Browns , led by quarterback Jameis Winston , in Week 12 of the NFL season on Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024 (11/21/24) at Huntington Bank Field in Cleveland, Ohio. How to watch: Fans can watch the game for free via a trial of Amazon Prime . Here’s what you need to know: What : NFL Week 12 Who : Browns vs. Steelers When : Thursday, Nov. 21, 2024 (11/21/24) Where : Huntington Bank Field Time : 8:15 p.m. ET TV : Local channels in Cleveland and Pittsburgh Live stream: Amazon Prime *** Here’s a preview capsule via the Associated Press: CLEVELAND (AP) — Even as a kid growing up in Alabama, Jameis Winston appreciated the Steelers-Browns rivalry with its tradition rooted in neighborly nastiness. For Winson, all it took was for him to hear NFL Films narrator John Facenda — nicknamed “the voice of God” — to understand that Pittsburgh facing Cleveland meant a little more than your average football game. Primal pigskin. “Seeing the blood, sweat, tears that happened. These games are hard-nosed, hard-fought,” Winston said, balling his fist and punching his other hand for emphasis. “True definition of cold-weather football game. This is premiere.” On Thursday night, Winston, who passed for 395 yards last week, gets thrown into one of league’s fiercest feuds as the Steelers (8-2 ) visit the Browns (2-8) in a game that looked more tantalizing on the schedule in September than it does now. After navigating through some starting quarterback issues, Pittsburgh again is atop the tough-as-it-gets AFC North while Cleveland’s season has dissolved into an ugly mess that may require another major offseason overhaul for a franchise that was convinced the worst was behind it. The Steelers are rolling. They’ve won five straight and are coming off an 18-16 win at home over the Baltimore Ravens. While not aesthetically pleasing, the victory had many familiar traits from Pittsburgh’s recent past — stout defense and solid special teams. Chris Boswell’s six field goals carried the Steelers and the defense came up with enough big plays to corral Lamar Jackson. It’s the second time this season that Boswell has accounted for all of Pittsburgh’s points, a testament to coach Mike Tomlin’s trust in his kicker and team. “It’s whatever’s required to win and whatever that means,” said Winston, whose 102nd career game as a pro will be his first against the Steelers. “Is it six field goals? Is it two blocked punts? Is it five touchdowns? Whatever’s required.” If the Browns have anything going for them it’s that Thursday has been their day. Cleveland has won eight straight home games on Thursdays, including two in the past five years over the Steelers. Of course, there will be the usual army of Terrible Towel-waving Pittsburgh fans who will venture into enemy territory to help make their team feel at home. However, the Steelers expect to get the best the Browns can offer in prime time. “We’re going into a hostile environment,” defensive tackle Cam Heyward said. ”We respect the background. We understand what those fans and their team is capable of. It’s like those big rivalries in college football. It doesn’t matter what the record is. You’re going to get their best shot. “You have to respect that. And, you know, we’re looking forward to going up there.” There’s a simmering subplot in this year’s matchup. Partly a media creation, the competition and comparisons between Steelers star linebacker T.J. Watt and Browns defensive end Myles Garrett intensified this week. When Garrett won Defensive Player of the Year last season, Watt, who finished second, posted “Nothing I’m not used to,” on social media the night of NFL Honors. This week, Garrett responded to Watt’s comment, which was open to interpretation. “I’ve never complained about the trophy not being at my house and vice versa. He shouldn’t be feeling two ways about knowing it’s going to me,” Garrett said. “So just going to play the game. I don’t play against T.J., he doesn’t play against me.” Garrett was asked if Watt had reached out to him to clear the air. “No, he didn’t say nothing to me,” Garrett said. “He’s going to have to apologize when I see him.” The Steelers unveiled a new look last week, using backup quarterback Justin Fields to replace Russell Wilson for a handful of snaps, including on Pittsburgh’s final drive when Fields ran for a 9-yard gain that helped kill the clock. It could become a fixture as Pittsburgh moves forward, though offensive coordinator Arthur Smith is quick to point out Fields is not in there as simply a wildcat-type threat. Fields, after all, did account for 10 touchdowns (five passing, five rushing) while filling in for Wilson during Pittsburgh’s 4-2 start. “I don’t view Justin in this role as a gadget guy,” Smith said. “We’ve got two starting quarterbacks and he’s a hell of a football player.” Smith used a similar setup while calling the plays for Tennessee in 2019, bringing in Marcus Mariota occasionally to spell Ryan Tannehill to give opponents a different look. The Browns' struggles have been followed by another time-honored Cleveland tradition: job speculation. Coach Kevin Stefanski has been widely criticized for the team’s collapse, caused by too many variables to list. And while he’s aware his approval rating has taken a big hit, Stefanski said growing up around sports talk radio in Philadelphia as a kid prepared him. “Probably because I grew up listening to that, I’m smart enough to not worry about outside noise,” he said. “I get that’s part of this gig. That’s life in the big city. My sole focus is getting this team ready to get a win on Thursday night. That’s it.” Stars like Watt and Heyward aren’t the only ones making plays for the NFL’s second-stingiest defense. RECOMMENDED • nj .com Is the Pittsburgh Steelers game on TV today (11/21/24)? Rookie linebacker Payton Wilson made a tumbling “gimme that” interception against the Ravens. Fellow rookie cornerback Beanie Bishop already has three picks and second-year linebacker Nick Herbig — filling in for an injured Alex Highsmith — forced a fumble last week and created the pressure that blew up a late 2-point conversion attempt by Baltimore. “It’s just a multitude of guys who know what they’re doing,” Heyward said. “You know, vets have helped out the younger guys to bring them up. METAIRIE, La. (AP) — If Saints interim coach Darren Rizzi has any definite ideas about who'll play quarterback for New Orleans against Washington on Sunday, he's not ready to share that information. Rizzi maintained on Wednesday that there's still a chance that Derek Carr could clear the concussion protocol and function well enough with his injured, non-throwing left hand to return against the Commanders. Meanwhile, reserve QBs Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler split first-team snaps during Wednesday's practice, which Carr missed, Rizzi said. “We're not going to name a starter right now,” said Rizzi, who also made a point of noting that Carr would not be placed on the club's injured reserve list and would not need surgery. “We're going to see how that progression plays out, first with Derek and then obviously with Jake and Spencer.” Carr, whose latest injury occurred when he tried to dive for a first down during Sunday's 14-11 victory over the New York Giants , has already missed three starts this season because of a separate, oblique injury. New Orleans lost all three of those games, with Rattler, a rookie, starting and Haener, a second-year pro, serving as the backup. In his three starts, Rattler completed 59 of 99 passes (59.6%) for 571 yards, one TD and two interceptions. Haener has gotten sporadic work this season in relief of both Carr and Rattler, completing 14 of 29 passes (48.3%) for 177 yards and one TD without an interception. Rizzi said he finds the 6-foot-1 Haener and 6-foot Rattler “very similar in a lot of ways," adding that whichever of those two might play “doesn't change a whole bunch" in terms of game-planning. “They're both similar-size guys. Their athletic ability is very similar,” Rizzi said. “They're similar-style quarterbacks. We're not dealing with opposites on the spectrum.” The Saints also signed another QB this week — Ben DiNucci — to help take scout team snaps at practice, now that Rattler and Haener are not as available to do that while competing to possibly start if Carr is indeed unable to play. The Saints (5-8) have won three of four games since Rizzi took over following the firing of coach Dennis Allen. That allowed New Orleans to remain alive in the NFC South Division, currently led by Tampa Bay (7-6). Rizzi said Carr has not had any setbacks this week in terms of progressing through the NFL's concussion protocol. “By the end of the week, if's he's not able to get any reps in any form or fashion, then obviously we'll go with one of the other guys,” Rizzi said. NOTES: RB Alvin Kamara did not practice on Wednesday because of an illness. ... WR Chris Olave, who is out indefinitely because of concussions this season, has returned to meetings at Saints headquarters. He as not, however, made plans to return to practice yet because he still plans to meet first with neurological specialists to try to assess the risks of returning to action during what's left of this season. Rizzi said the possibility of Olave playing again this season remains “on the table” for now. AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/NFLSpawning salmon return to urban Vancouver streams, inspire conservation

Stock market today: Wall Street slips to a rare back-to-back loss
President-elect Donald Trump has been selected as Time magazine’s Person of the Year for the second time. The Republican was invited to the New York Stock Exchange to ring the bell after his win, attending with his wife Melania Trump, JD Vance and his children Ivanka and Tiffany. “This is a tremendous honour,” Mr Trump said on Wall Street. “This honour, for the second time, I think I like it better this time,” Mr Trump said. Announcing Mr Trump as the choice, Sam Jacobs, editor-in-chief of Time magazine said: “For 97 years, the editors of TIME have been picking the Person of the Year: the individual who, for better or for worse, did the most to shape the world and the headlines over the past 12 months. “In many years, that choice is a difficult one. In 2024, it was not,” he said. In an interview with the outlet, Mr Trump said it was “sad” that he had now run his final presidential campaign. “It’s sad in a way. It will never happen again,” Mr Trump said. In brief remarks before ringing the bell on Wall Street, Mr Trump promised that his incoming administration would usher in “an economy the likes of which nobody’s ever seen before.” “We’re going to give tremendous incentive like no other country has,” Mr Trump told the moneyed crowd, including by cutting taxes “very substantially.” Mr Trump reiterated his plans to boost US oil drilling, promising that doing so would lower inflation and bring down grocery prices. That claim contrasted with what he told Time when asked if his administration would be a failure if grocery bills stay high. “I don’t think so. Look, they got them up. I’d like to bring them down. It’s hard to bring things down once they’re up,” Mr Trump told the magazine. He also repeated at the New York Stock Exchange his vow to slash the corporate tax rate — which was already lowered to 21 per cent during his first term in office — to 15 per cent, but only for companies that choose to manufacture in the US. “You pay 21 per cent if you don’t build here. If you do, we’re going to try and get it to 15 per cent, but you have to build your product, make your product in the USA,” Mr Trump told CNBC’s Jim Cramer after the bell. LAS VEGAS — With a restructuring at Andretti Global that pushed Michael Andretti into a smaller role, the chances of his organization landing a Formula 1 team have substantially increased. So much so that F1 and Formula One Management could have a decision to grant the General Motors-backed entry a spot as the 11th team on the grid in the coming weeks. Dan Towriss, now the majority owner of the Andretti organization, was at the Las Vegas Grand Prix on Thursday scoping his chances of entering the top motorsports series in the world. So was the FBI, allegedly, as part of a Department of Justice investigation into why F1 denied the Andretti organization expansion into the series. F1 currently has 10 teams that field 20 cars and only one — the organization owned by California businessman Gene Haas — is an American team. Las Vegas marks the third race this season in the United States, more than any other country, as F1 has exploded in American popularity over the last five years. People are also reading... Even so, Andretti could not get approval from F1 to enter the series. But, the situation changed in September when Andretti scaled back his role with his namesake organization. Now with Towriss in charge, talks have amplified, even though it is not clear what the name of an Andretti-less F1 team would even be. Cadillac would do the engines — but says it won't be ready until 2028 — which means a 2026 Towriss-led F1 team would be GM branded but with a partner engine supplier. Most of the existing teams have been largely opposed to an 11th team entering F1, citing a dilution in prize money and the massive expenses they've already committed to the series. But, Andretti among others believed the teams' position was personal in that they simply didn't like Andretti, who ran 13 races in the 1993 season. His father, Mario, is the 1978 F1 world champion. The Andretti application had already been approved by the FIA, which is F1's ruling body, but later denied by F1 itself. F1 promised to revisit the issue once General Motors had an engine ready to compete. The existing 10 F1 teams have no actual vote or say in if the grid is expanded, which Mercedes boss Toto Wolff reiterated Thursday when The Associated Press asked why the sudden chance of acceptance in a potential 11th team. "We have an obligation, a statutory obligation as directors, to present the standpoint that is the best for our company and for our employees, and we've done that," Wolff said. "I think if a team can add to the championship, particularly if GM decides to come in as a team owner, that is a different story. "And as long as it is creative, that means we're growing the popularity of the sport, we're growing the revenue of the sport, then no team will be ever against it. So I'm putting my hope in there." Wolff has been eager to hear from Towriss directly on what the plans for the organization are now that Andretti has a smaller role. "No one from Andretti or Andretti Global or whatever the name will be has ever spoken to me a single sentence in presentation of what the creative part is," he said. "But they don't need to because the teams don't decide. It is the commercial rights holder, with the FIA, we have no say. If I want to be invited to a party and go to the party, I'm sitting down at the table and telling who I am and why I'm really good fun and sitting here and everybody will enjoy my presence. "That hasn't happened, but you know, that's now my personal point of view, not a professional, because there's nothing we can do, nothing we can say," Wolff continued. "And I don't know the people. I've obviously spoken to Mario. I didn't speak to his son. I didn't speak to any other people that are behind that. I don't know who they are. So I know GM, GM is great." Fred Vasseur, team principal at Ferrari, said he's not opposed to another team if it adds value to F1. "The discussion is between FIA, the team, and FOM. It's not our choice," he said. "For sure, as Toto said, that if it's good for the sport, good for the show, good for the business, and adds value on the sporting side, that we are all OK."
