SHOPPERS could see an unexpected item in supermarkets this Christmas for the first time ever - and we've got the perfect festive recipe to celebrate it. Tesco, Sainsbury's and Marks & Spencers earlier confirmed they will stock home-grown strawberries on their shelves this winter season. Strawberries are usually imported over winter due to economic and environmental reasons. But fruit suppliers have innovated new technology which will finally allow strawberries to be grown in the UK all year round. The Summer Berry Company, a supplier in West Sussex, will be growing the fruit 12 months a year and supplying supermarkets. This means that shoppers will be able to get their hands on the British strawberries this Christmas as an exciting new addition to their festive celebrations and desserts. Typically the British strawberry season runs from May to October, and are a familiar sight in summer commonly associated with the Wimbledon tennis tournament. And bosses at The Summer Berry Company have come up with a mouth-watering dessert that will be a showstopper for Christmas Dinner. They promise it will be "a beautiful centre piece to a party table and makes a lovely grazing platter". The pretty strawberry wreath takes just 20 minutes to prepare - and even better, there's no cooking involved. All you need is 600g of strawberries and 80g of dark, milk and white chocolate. First up, melt the different chocolates in separate bowls by placing in the microwave for 30 seconds at a time, stirring and returning for repeat 30 seconds slots until smooth and glossy. Next, line a baking tray with parchment or a reusable silicon sheet and arrange a selection of decorations - chopped nuts, desiccated coconut and candied orange peel - in separate bowls or plates. Dip whole strawberries into melted chocolate then sprinkle over a decoration and set aside on the baking tray to set. The Summer Berry Company team say: "You can vary your combinations of chocolate and decorations however you fancy." The strawberries usually set at room temperature within 10 minutes but you can also store them in a cool place until ready to serve. Finally, arrange a rough ring of greenery on a large platter or board in a circular shape, pile on the strawberries, adding in extra bits of green herb to decorate. Then simply add a big bow somewhere on the wreath to finish the effect.Liverpool's impressive rise in the title odds can be attributed to their consistency and resilience on the pitch. The team has showcased their attacking prowess, coupled with a solid defense that has made them a formidable force to reckon with. With star players like Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Virgil van Dijk leading the charge, Liverpool's title ambitions seem more tangible than ever.None

United Nations climate talks in Azerbaijan have threatened to collapse after negotiating groups representing island states and some of the least-developed countries walked out of a key meeting. Login or signup to continue reading A number of representatives left the large main hall, with one representative shouting loudly when asked about the status of a deal: "Rejected!" "We are here to negotiate but we have left the room because at the moment we don't have the feeling that we are being heard," Colombia's Environment Minister Susana Muhamad told reporters. European delegation sources at COP29 said they assumed that the negotiations, which had been due to end on Friday before being extended, would continue. Various draft texts are circulating among negotiators in Baku. The European Union, United States and other wealthy countries at the summit agreed to raise their offer of climate funding to $US300 billion ($A462 billion) per year by 2035 to help developing countries grapple with climate change, sources told Reuters on Saturday, after a previous proposal was dismissed as insultingly low. The summit had been due to finish on Friday but ran into overtime as negotiators from nearly 200 countries - who must adopt the deal by consensus - tried to reach agreement on a climate funding plan for the next decade. A $US250 billion proposal for a deal, drafted by Azerbaijan's COP29 presidency on Friday, was deemed woefully insufficient by developing countries. Several groups of countries are demanding more ambitious commitments by industrialised countries to aid funding for action on climate change and adaptation in the coming years. But a rough draft of a new proposal to curb and adapt to climate change on Saturday was getting soundly rejected, especially by African countries and small island states, according to messages relayed from inside. The "current deal is unacceptable for us. We need to speak to other developing countries and decide what to do," Evans Njewa, the chair of the Least Developed Countries group, said. With tensions high, climate activists heckled US climate envoy John Podesta as he left the meeting room. They accused the US of not paying its fair share and having "a legacy of burning up the planet". The last official draft on Friday pledged $US250 billion annually by 2035, more than double the previous goal of $US100 billion set 15 years ago but far short of the annual $US1 trillion-plus that experts say is needed. Developing countries accused the rich of trying to get their way - and a small financial aid package - via a war of attrition. And small island countries, particularly vulnerable to climate change's effects, accused the host country presidency of ignoring them for the entire two weeks. After bidding one of his suitcase-lugging delegation colleagues goodbye and watching the contingent of about 20 enter the meeting room for the EU, Panama chief negotiator Juan Carlos Monterrey Gomez had enough. "Every minute that passes we are going to just keep getting weaker and weaker and weaker. They don't have that issue. They have massive delegations," Gomez said. "This is what they always do. They break us at the last minute. You know, they push it and push it and push it until our negotiators leave. Until we're tired, until we're delusional from not eating, from not sleeping." With developing countries' ministers and delegation chiefs having to catch flights home, desperation sets in, Power Shift Africa's Mohamed Adow said. "The risk is if developing countries don't hold the line, they will likely be forced to compromise and accept a goal that doesn't add up to get the job done," he said. with DPA and Reuters Australian Associated Press DAILY Today's top stories curated by our news team. In the high-intensity and action-packed world of the Premier League, dribbling past opponents is an essential skill that sets apart the best players from the rest. This season, the statistics reveal two standout performers who have excelled in this area, with Abdoulaye Doucoure and Ismaila Sarr topping the charts for successful dribbles per match.

The fourth goal came from a lightning-fast counter-attack, with Jota latching onto a through ball and calmly slotting it past the Girona goalkeeper. It was a display of Liverpool's lethal efficiency in transition, as they punished Girona for committing too many players forward in search of a consolation goal. The final whistle blew, and Liverpool emerged as comfortable winners, sending a strong message to their rivals ahead of the new season.

Marshall also contributed five assists for the Great Danes (4-1). Byron Joshua added 13 points while going 4 of 4 (3 for 3 from 3-point range) while he also had five assists and five steals. CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Cubs acquired All-Star outfielder Kyle Tucker in a trade with the Houston Astros on Friday, paying a big price for one of baseball's best hitters. The Cubs sent third baseman Isaac Paredes, right-hander Hayden Wesneski and Cam Smith, one of their top infield prospects, to the Astros for Tucker, who is eligible for free agency after the 2025 season. Tucker was limited to 78 games this year because of a fractured right shin, but he hit .289 with 23 homers and 49 RBIs for the AL West champions. He batted .284 with 29 homers, an AL-best 112 RBIs and 30 steals for Houston in 2023. Tucker, who turns 28 on Jan. 17, joins a crowded situation in Chicago's outfield, but the Cubs are reportedly looking to trade Cody Bellinger, who also can play first base. They also have talked to Seiya Suzuki's agent about the outfielder's no-trade clause. The Cubs have finished second in the NL Central with an 83-79 record in each of the past two years, and there is increased pressure on president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer to get the team back into the playoffs for the first time since 2020. The New York Yankees also were in the mix for Tucker before the trade was completed. “We certainly had many conversations with the Astros.” Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said. “At the end of the day I’m glad that Mr. Tucker is not in the American League East or the American League at all. But it’s a big get for the Chicago Cubs.” Paredes is an option for Houston at third base if Alex Bregman departs in free agency. The 25-year-old Paredes hit .238 with 19 homers and 80 RBIs in 153 games this year. He made the AL All-Star team with Tampa Bay and then was traded to Chicago in July. Wesneski, a Houston native who played college ball for Sam Houston State, likely will compete for a spot in the Astros’ rotation. The right-hander, who turned 27 on Dec. 5, went 3-6 with a 3.86 ERA over 21 relief appearances and seven starts this year. He was on the injured list from July 20 to Sept. 20 with a right forearm strain. Houston is hoping the addition of Paredes and Wesneski will help the team continue its impressive run as one of baseball's best teams. It has made the playoffs for eight straight years, winning the World Series in 2017 and 2022. It was swept by Detroit in the wild-card round this year. While Paredes and Wesneski could have an immediate impact, Smith also was a key component of the deal. Smith, 21, was selected by Chicago with the No. 14 pick in this year's draft out of Florida State University. He hit .313 with seven homers and 24 RBIs in 32 games over three minor league stops, finishing the year with Double-A Knoxville. Tucker was Houston's first-round pick in 2015, taken No. 5 overall. He made his big league debut with the Astros in 2018. Tucker had a breakout performance three years after his debut, hitting a career-best .294 with 30 homers and 92 RBIs in 140 games in 2021. He won a Gold Glove the following year. The Tampa, Florida, native is a .274 hitter with 125 homers, 417 RBIs and an .869 OPS in 633 career games — all with Houston. He also has appeared in 64 postseason games, batting .229 with eight homers and 28 RBIs. AP Baseball Writer Ronald Blum contributed to this report.
