NoneHere comes the world’s first Transflective LCD or TLCD monitor – the Eazeye Radiant – which, as its makers claim, is unique in that it offers the best of both worlds – a full-color display having high refresh rate while still being extremely eye-friendly. In fact, it can be similar to e-paper displays in offering a glare-free interface, one that remains readable even in direct sunlight. What’s more, the latest iteration of the Radiant monitor comes with several user-friendly modifications. But before getting into those, here is a brief introduction to the basic TLCD technology first. Traditional LCD panels can cause eye strain when viewed for long and lose their readability when viewed under direct sunlight. This has to do with the inherent nature of its design. LCD panel display images by controlling the polarization via an electric field. The liquid crystal molecules get aligned according to the voltage applied. This changes the polarization of light passing through the molecules, which in turn creates the image on the LCD display. However, the images thus created won’t be clearly visible unless there is backlight. Usually, it is a Cold Cathode Fluorescent Lamp (CCFL) or Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) used for backlighting purposes. This essentially illuminates the LCD panel from the rear, which provides the brightness needed for the images to be seen clearly. A good backlighting system is paramount for the perfect LCD display. While on the one hand, it must be strong enough to pass through the polarizing filters, it should also provide uniform illumination to make the screen bright and visible. So far so good but herein also lies the biggest drawbacks with LCD displays. Backlighting which is key for the display to look bright and sharp also causes eye strain and fatigue. Further, efficient backlighting consumes a lot of energy as well. It is here that the Eazeye Radiant takes things to the next level. While things remain largely the same, the biggest change with the Radiant monitor is the use of a TLCD screen instead of regular LCD screens. TLCD screens are different from LCDs in that they can be reflective in nature. Apart from reflecting natural light, it can also function with a backlight, as is the case with traditional LCD monitors. With a physical backlight on and off switch, you have greater versatility, allowing you to continue working even in challenging lighting conditions. Among the other enhancements the new Easeye Radiant monitor comes with are a new base stand, a redesigned clip-on mechanism, and 4 VESA holes for better stability. With a touchscreen provided, the monitor can also function as a tablet device as well. Plus, additional magnets are provided to hold the panel securely, while a single hinge system allows easy insertion and removal of the panel. The monitor itself is twice as bright as its predecessor and offers a more streamlined user interface. The monitor is also extremely energy efficient when operating without the backlight, consuming only 5 watts of power in the process. This is just one-third the power that a traditional LCD monitor consumes. Besides, as already stated, TLCD is a lot more eye-friendly owing to the lack of a strong backlight striking your eyes. Apart from the anti-glare layer which makes things all the more soothing for the eyes, the new Eazeye Radiant monitor comes with a full spectrum LED for a more uniform illumination of the display and better eye comfort. The monitor also boasts a built-in wireless connectivity module. The image quality also remains perfect, with the brightness and colors blending seamlessly with the surroundings when viewed under ambient lighting. Combine this with the portable form factor of the monitor and you have a device that will let you enjoy the outdoors as you continue with your work. You are no longer confined to a strict indoor work environment with the Radiant TLCD monitor. This is even more applicable thanks to the ultra-low power requirement of the monitor which makes it functional for long without requiring to be plugged in. In the absence of ambient light, you can always fall back on the full spectrum backlight to use the monitor comfortably. Further, with low blue light emission, it is going to be less stressful for your brain as well. With a keen interest in tech, I make it a point to keep myself updated on the latest developments in technology and gadgets. That includes smartphones or tablet devices but stretches to even AI and self-driven automobiles, the latter being my latest fad. Ungar-Sargon shares intimate stories of the struggles of hard-working Americans across the country, finding commonalities across lines of race, political affiliation and occupation. In this Q&A, she discusses barriers to for the working class, whether universal college education would help, their enduring patriotism and more. A: That you can love a country that has you. That you can love people who vote for the other party and support policies that you don’t. That polarization is a totally elite phenomenon. Despite being incredibly diverse, working-class Americans are surprisingly united on the big issues, whether it’s abortion or immigration or equal opportunity or the need for better jobs and better health care. The problem is that neither party represents where the vast majority of working-class Americans are at politically, so it’s something of a which party they choose. Unlike the college educat ed (on both sides), they don’t identify with the list of positions listed on the DNC or RNC websites, so they aren’t in politics and would never dream of holding it against someone who picks the other party in the voting booth because it signifies so little. We took good-paying, working-class jobs that ensured a stable, middle-class life to millions of Americans and shipped them overseas to build up the middle class of other countries. Then we imported millions of low-wage immigrants, most of whom are working in jobs that don’t require a college degree, to compete with working-class Americans in the jobs that remained here, of those jobs. Corporations started to they used to take onto their workers, then good health care, then stable working hours and then a living wage. That’s how we got here. The diploma divide is another big one. Our economy rewards people who work in the knowledge industry in a big way, while there is constant downward pressure on working-class wages. And then there’s the cost of a middle-class life. While working-class wages are up, the of a middle-class life—a home, adequate health care, an education, a retirement—have risen astronomically, in large part due to what Elizabeth Warren called “The Two Income Trap”: upper middle-class couples in the top 10 or 20 percentile who can afford to pay twice as much for everything, which drove up the prices where they live. This is an extremely important question. The answer is no, both on the part of the workers and on the part of the economy. From the perspective of the economy, there simply isn’t a demand for significantly increasing the number of college grads out there. Those industries are pretty full up—and even contracting, thanks to AI. Over half of college grads are working jobs that don’t require a college degree (though they still make more than their working-class counterparts), meaning we’re already producing way too many college grads—while there is a devastating dearth of skilled tradesfolk. The other reason free college for all isn’t the answer is that not everyone wants to go to college, excels at that type of learning or wants that kind of career. And that’s a really good thing! We already have too many lawyers and gender studies majors and podcasts. We’re never going to have too many plumbers or janitors, but we took all the money to educate the former and put it in higher education, and then devalued the latter through mass migration. From a whale breaching and landing on a boat to first responders making dramatic rescues, here's a look at some of the wildest videos we saw in 2024: Two people were thrown into the ocean after a whale landed on their fishing boat off the New Hampshire coast on the morning of July 23, and the entire incident was caught on video. The wild video shows the whale breaching, propelling fish out of the water. As the massive animal's mouth closes, it flops over onto the rear of the nearby fishing boat with two men aboard. See the video in the player above. A driver was saved from a fully submerged pickup on Sept. 11, 2024, in New Orleans as Hurricane Francine prompted a flash flood emergency. A good Samaritan, Miles Crawford, was in the area and when Crawford figured out what was happening he ran back to his home, grabbed something to break the truck window and saved the man’s life. A dramatic video captured in November shows a man being rescued after dangling from the edge of a cliff in San Francisco, California. The California Highway Patrol helicopter responded to the scene as the man struggled to hold on. A video released by the California Highway Patrol shows a crew member being lowered from the helicopter by a hoist to grab the man. The San Francisco Fire Department said the man did not sustain any injuries. A snowboarder narrowly escaped an avalanche on Mount Washington's Tuckerman Ravine in New Hampshire in December 2024. It was all caught on camera. Patrick Scanlan, of the Mount Washington Avalanche Center, said that while such situations are common, it is rare to catch such a scenario on camera. He said the incident serves as a crucial reminder for those eager to hit the slopes early in the season. The avalanche happened to be on a low angle and was moving slowly. The partial failure of the Rapidan Dam in Minnesota forced a landmark in Mankato to fall into the Blue Earth River . The Tulsa Fire Department shared a video showing a dog getting a hold of and chewing on a lithium-ion battery that appeared to be in some type of charger. The dog chewed on it until the battery exploded, causing a dog bed to catch fire. Cameras were rolling when the ground opened up and swallowed part of a soccer field in Illinois in June. Aerial footage of the scene, which was provided by KMOV , shows the massive hole that was left behind on the athletic field in Alton, Illinois, which is around 22 miles outside of St. Louis, Missouri. The sinkhole opened up on Wednesday, June 26, and as a video shows, it even swallowed a stadium light post on the property. The aviation team was able to direct ground deputies to the location of the climber. Koalas are normally found in eucalyptus trees, but one couple came home in Australia were were shocked to come home one November day to find one in their bedroom . Video showed the koala scurrying around the house, presumably looking for a way out, as Fran Dias Rufino, the homeowner, screamed frantically in the background. Koalas rarely attack people and are most often seen at the tops of trees, lazily chewing eucalyptus leaves. Rufino said her husband later used a blanket to shoo the koala away, and it found its way to the door. A life-saving scene played out on Sept. 12 on a busy stretch road in Michigan with a heroic act by a sheriff's deputy . Deputies Nicole Miron and Anthony Gross, with the Macomb County Sheriff's Department, were notified that a silver GMC Sierra pickup truck was driving erratically. Gross was driving, and Miron rolled down her window and tried to get the driver to stop, but he appeared to be in a daze. The driver managed to briefly hit his brakes and that's when Miron climbed from her passenger seat into the moving truck.
