British Columbia’s new official Opposition leader is facing the first major test of his leadership. Thirteen BC Conservative MLAs have written a letter to Leader John Rustad demanding action to restore “confidence in the core values” of the Conservative caucus, and singling out one of their caucus colleagues. The letter, first obtained by CKNW Radio host Jas Johal , comes just weeks after the fledgling BC Conservative party came within three seats of forming a majority government in B.C.’s provincial election. The issue revolves around Surrey-Cloverdale Conservative MLA Elenore Sturko’s response to the Nov. 22 ouster of Vancouver Police Board vice-chair Comfort Sakoma-Fadugba, following a series of posts she made on social media. In screenshots of the Instagram stories posted to Reddit , Sakoma-Fadugba suggested Christianity underpins Canadian culture and values, raised concerns about secular education “erasing Christian values from the lives of our children,” and mused that exposure to Diwali celebrations in schools could lead to Hinduism becoming the “dominant cultural influence.” The posts also raised concerns about gender transitioning among children and a “woke culture that pits children against their parents,” and criticized “mass immigration” and a “growing aversion to assimilation.” Police board Chair Frank Chong subsequently said he asked for Sakoma-Fadugba’s resignation, stating the social media posts “do not reflect the value of the Board and are inconsistent with our code of conduct.” In their letter to Rustad, the MLAs express dismay that Sturko subsequently appeared in a CBC interview where she “endorsed the resignation on the basis that these views were ‘offensive’ and undermined trust in police.” “Under your leadership, the Conservative Party of BC has consistently denounced ‘cancel culture’ and stood for the Charter rights of British Columbians to enjoy free expression and freedom of religion,” the letter states. Strictly Come Dancing fans were left furious during the semi-final when they believed that Shirley Ballas was unfairly dishing out compliments and over-marking Pete Wicks . The ex-TOWIE star has made it through to the penultimate week without ever being in the dance-off - despite those considered superior dancers to him being eliminated along the way. In fact, just minutes into the show, fans were already venting their dismay on social media believing he didn't deserve to be there alongside fellow semi-finalists Chris McCausland, Tasha Ghouri , JB Gill and Sarah Hadland. And their frustrations escalated following Pete's first performance when head judge Shirley lavished him with praise even dubbing him 'Mr Strictly'. Shirley told Pete that she judged him on how he'd progressed during the competition rather than against anyone else. She said: "You are Mr Strictly Come Dancing . You are what this show is about. Everybody at home, all the parents, will be sitting there and thinking, 'if Pete can do it, I can do it' and you will inspire people to go to the dance studio. "You had no experience whatsoever coming in. I thought you did a very good job on your footwork and your neckline.... week one you were like this and today you were shining. You didn't make any mistakes, you did a grand job. You should walk with your head high - you are absolutely Mr Strictly Come Dancing." She went on to award him the highest mark of all the judges - nine out of 10 - giving him a total of 32 out of 40. But fans took exception to Shirley's lavish praise and rushed to social media platform X to call out her 'bias'. One said: "SHIRLEY CALLING PETE MR STRICTLY COME DANCING LIKE MONTELL DIDNT ALSO START FROM NOTHING BUT NEVER GOT THAT PRAISE. The bias is RIDICULOUS." Panthers coach Dave Canales offered no update on Sanders’ status other than to say he was released from the hospital after being evaluated by doctors. Team officials said Sanders had full use of all of his extremities. Sanders, who has been a budding young star on the Panthers offense, caught a 10-yard pass near the sideline before being upended by Chiefs cornerback Trent McDuffie near the end of the first half. He flipped in the air and landed on the back of his head and remained on the ground for several minutes as teammates gathered around him. Sanders was put on a backboard and taken to the locker room. The Toronto Maple Leafs have a chance to add a big piece to their roster as long as they take advantage of a struggling rival. It's not a secret that Brad Treliving and his crew want to bring aboard one more key piece in order to complete his roster for a long playoff push. There are a variety of options he can choose from and they would all no doubt bring an impact to the team. But Toronto would be able to not only add to their roster but also be taking a big part of a heated division rival's team. Per Elliotte Friedman's latest '32 Thoughts' blog , he notes that playoff teams and contenders will be checking in on Trent Frederic of the Bruins and Toronto should take that leap. Trent Frederic Will Help the Toronto Maple Leafs Toronto would be helping themselves by adding Frederic ; a 6'3, 220-pound center with solid defensive metrics and offensive potential but not only because he would help their lineup but it gives Toronto a rare opportunity to steal from one of their most heated rivals. It's not the flashiest trade in the world but it would give the Leafs stability even though he's struggling this season. With only nine points in 28 games, it's a far cry from last season where he had 18 goals and a career-high 40 points. Frederic would help Toronto's Top 9 immensely by not only adding scoring potential but his defensive skills and presence on the ice is a huge factor for his previous success. He throws hits, doesn't make too many mistakes with the puck, and is another gritty big-bodied forward for Craig Berube to utilize. Also not the most expensive option at $2.3M, Frederic would offer Toronto a cheaper alternative than some other options on the market and also give their rivals a little gut punch when it comes to taking one of their younger players. It wouldn't be the flashiest trade for the Maple Leafs but if Brad Treliving and company want to make the best team possible, adding a young power forward who plays center and also handicapping your most heated rivals is a pretty good start.
