Punjab CM Children’s Heart Surgery Programme being expanded: minister LAHORE: Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said that the scope of the Chief Minister’s Children’s Heart Surgery Programme is being further expanded. In this regard, more hospitals are also being paneled soon. He shared this information while addressing a meeting at the Punjab Health Initiative Management Company regarding the Chief Minister’s Children’s Heart Surgery Programme on Saturday. The meeting was attended by Parliamentary Secretary Rushda Lodhi, Secretary Specialised Healthcare and Medical Education Department Azmat Mahmood, Special Secretary Development Syed Wajid Ali Shah, Additional Secretary Dr Waheed Asghar, Additional Secretary Technical Dr M Waseem, Dr Farqad Alamgir, CEO PHIMC Dr Ali Razaq and focal persons of Lahore’s empaneled private hospitals. Representative of Institute of Cardiology Multan, Punjab Information Technology Board and other officers participated through video link. Khawaja Salman Rafique reviewed the CM Children’s Heart Surgery Programme in detail during the meeting. Concerned officers, focal persons of government and private hospitals and PITB were briefed in this regard. The provincial health minister while speaking in the meeting, said that PITB has been directed to immediately train the technical staff of private hospitals regarding the CM Children’s Heart Surgery Programme on the dashboard. Coordination of the concerned departments will be further improved to make the CM Children’s Heart Surgery Programme successful. Since the launch, more than 960 innocent children have undergone successful surgeries under this programme. The provincial minister said that no negligence will be tolerated in the CM Children’s Heart Surgery Programme. The empanelled private hospitals have also been directed to further improve their performance to increase the number of heart surgeries of innocent children. Under this programme, there has been a clear reduction in the waiting list for surgeries of innocent children. Before this Programme, parents of innocent children had to wait for months according to the waiting list for surgeries. Under this Programme, the capacity of government children’s hospitals in Punjab has also increased. The Child Protection and Family Services Agency (CPFSA) has reported that the teenage boys featured in a viral video involving a schoolgirl have been charged with multiple offenses including rape, forcible abduction, knowing and producing child pornography and distributing child pornography. The video, which surfaced last week and has been widely circulated on social media, depicts a 13-year-old girl being subjected to inappropriate actions by the boys. According to the CPFSA, investigations revealed that the male students allegedly lured the schoolgirl to a house where the assault occurred, and the incident was recorded. The CPFSA stated that the girl is scheduled to undergo a medical assessment today. The agency has also stepped in to provide psychological support for the teenager. “We became aware of the video early Saturday morning, November 23, 2024. Our investigative team located the victim and her family and met with them on Sunday, November 24, 2024, offering brief counseling. The child has since been referred to the Victims Services Division for further assistance,” explained Laurette Adams-Thomas, head of the CPFSA. Adams-Thomas strongly condemned the act, describing it as despicable. “The increasing levels of violence among our children are deeply troubling. This incident sadly reflects the broader issues of violence and disrespect toward women and girls in our society. We must act now to protect our children and foster a future where such behaviors are not tolerated. Teaching our boys that masculinity does not equate to abuse is critical,” she said.
