White, the owner of Lullys Food Experience, announced the decision in a social media post on Thursday (Dec. 5), saying he is stepping back to devote more time to his family. White married his wife Kelly, a single mom, in September 2023. “I love this community and always will, but anyone who knows me knows that family comes first,” White wrote in the post. “Our youngest child, who has autism and IDD (intellectual and developmental disabilities), is having a difficult time transitioning through adolescence into manhood. “My wife is a rock star, having dealt with this by herself for 18 years, and my heart is telling me I need to be close to home to be her support and to help her navigate this next chapter.” White, 55, announced in May of this year that he was seeking the nomination, joining four others vying for a chance to run in the 2025 federal election. The Abbotsford-South Langley riding will replace the Abbotsford riding, which is currently held by Conservative MP Ed Fast, who in March announced he will retire from federal politics after 18 years. Still seeking the nomination are former longtime Abbotsford West MLA Mike de Jong; Fast’s executive assistant, Mike Murray; Steve Schafer, the vice-president of the Langley-Aldergrove Constituency Association; and Shanjeelin Dwivedi, who has served as a director of parliamentary affairs with two MPs as well as a senior adviser and campaign volunteer. A date for the nomination vote has not been announced. White has been a relentless advocate for finding living donors for people in need of transplants after he experienced the life-changing difference it makes in someone’s life. In late 2020, White donated one of his kidneys to customer Tim Hiscock. He stated in his social media post that he will continue with this endeavour. White said that recently seven new people in need of a new kidney signed up, bringing the total in the community to almost 30. “After much soul searching, I recognize how important helping save lives through the kidney campaign means to me and I want to devote my time to helping this cause,” he said. White said he might re-enter the political ring in the future, “as the notion of helping our community on a larger scale” calls to him.Ancient meets modern as a new subway in Greece showcases archaeological treasures THESSALONIKI, Greece (AP) — Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city, is opening a new subway system, blending ancient archaeological treasures with modern transit technology like driverless trains and platform screen doors. The project, which began in 2003, uncovered over 300,000 artifacts, including a Roman-era thoroughfare and Byzantine relics, many of which are now displayed in its 13 stations. Despite delays caused by preserving these findings, the inaugural line has been completed, with a second line set to open next year. Conor McGregor must pay $250K to woman who says he raped her, civil jury rules LONDON (AP) — A civil jury in Ireland has awarded more than $250,000 to a woman who says she was raped by mixed martial arts fighter Conor McGregor in a Dublin hotel penthouse after a night of heavy partying. The jury on Friday awarded Nikita Hand in her lawsuit that claimed McGregor “brutally raped and battered” her in 2018. The lawsuit says the assault left her heavily bruised and suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. McGregor testified that he never forced her to do anything and that Hand fabricated her allegations after the two had consensual sex. McGregor says he will appeal the verdict. NYT Strands today — hints, spangram and answers for game #277 (Thursday, December 5 2024)BLOOMFIELD — If there was any question about who the night belonged to on Friday, Ella Bobe ended any doubt at the halftime horn. The South Knox senior became the school's all-time leading scorer late in the first quarter at Eastern Greene, and she banked in a half-court shot at second-quarter buzzer as the Class 2A No. 1 Spartans dominated the Thunderbirds, 72-14. Bobe finished with 19 points. She broke the South Knox girls basketball scoring record last season and needed eight points Friday to surpass the boys leader, 2008 South Knox alum Levi Holscher, who had 1,296. While Bobe is the first to eclipse 1,300 points in a South Knox uniform, there are still others from pre-consolidation that she can pass this season, Ed McCormick (Decker, class of 1954, 1,362 points), Keith Prather (Wheatland, 1963, 1,391), and Gene Powell (Monroe City, 1963, 1,554). South Knox scored the game's first 21 points before Eastern Greene got on the board. Bobe's record-breaking score came in response to make it 23-2 with 2:40 showing, and coach Hollie Eaves called a timeout to give the Spartans' fans a chance to acknowledge Bobe. "Ella, in general is just a great kid. She does the little things right, on the court and off the court as well," Eaves said. "She's just a great human being and a strong woman. I'm super proud of her. The scoring record is great, and it's only going to go up. I'm proud of her for how hard she's worked to get to where she is. It's definitely deserved." South Knox led, 27-5, after one quarter and scored 19 in a row to begin the second period. Bobe's half-court buzzer beater made it 53-8. The margin was 66-9 after three periods. It was the first time this season and fifth time since the start of last season that South Knox has held an opponent under 20 points. Kendal Hill and Madison Parrish each added 12 points Friday, and Bren Hill had nine. "One of the main goals was to make sure no one got hurt. But the girls wanted to get their minutes, so they got up and down," Eaves said. "We're going to take tomorrow off, give the girls a rest. I already had a couple ask if they could come in and get shots up, but I just told them to take some time off to rest. "This was a nice way to finish out our little series here (six games in eight days), and we finished strong too." In a two-quarter junior varsity game, South Knox (4-1) handled Eastern, 32-7. Sarah French had 13 points, and Ellie Burke nine. Bobe nearly reached the career scoring mark on Thursday, putting up a season-high 26 points in a 63-30 home victory over Evansville Mater Dei. Bren Hill added 13 points, and Kendal Hill 12. South Knox had a 5-3 advantage before it broke free with a 19-0 run that spanned the first two periods. The margin was 19-3 after one, with Kendal Hill scoring seven in the period. The lead swelled to 35-10 at halftime, and Bobe had 17 in the third quarter as her teammates tried to help her achieve the record on the Spartans' home floor. "The coaches never talked about (Bobe getting the record). Kendal knew, and that was all her. They were trying to get Ella the ball, and that's what's great about this team. They're so unselfish," Eaves said. The Spartans earned a running clock by hitting the 35-point threshold with 7:10 remaining. Eaves was pleased that her team continued to play well from the start. "Part of that is not being satisfied. We constantly go back to last year, and how we didn't meet our mission," she said. "It's pretty easy to keep them motivated. They want to be here. It makes my job easier. We tell them that it all starts on the defensive end, and they did a great job getting after it." Izzy Like had eight points to lead the Wildcats (2-3). South Knox's JV topped Mater Dei in a two-quarter game, 26-7. Burke had 11 points, and Kalissa Lavely 10. The Spartans play their second of four consecutive sectional opponents on Tuesday, visiting Linton for a 6 p.m. start.

US stocks climbed on Monday, with chip stocks leading the tech sector higher while investors eyed a possible year-end rally. All three benchmark indexes ended the trading session in the green, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite rising nearly 1%. Chipmakers fueled the climb in tech shares, clawing back losses from last week's Fed-fueled sell-off. Nvidia gained 3% by the closing bell. Broadcom and Advanced Micro Devices rose 5% and 4% respectively. "It's been an AI-driven year, and it appears that's how it is headed into the year-end," Louis Navellier, the chief investment officer of Navellier & Associates, said in a note. Investors, meanwhile, are eyeing a possible Santa Claus rally, which refers to a stock surge that takes place over the last trading week of the year and the first two trading days of the new year. If one occurs, it could indicate another positive year for the stock market, according to Sam Stovall, the chief investment strategist at CFRA Research. "A positive Santa Claus Rally has preceded a 10.4% average annual gain for the S&P 500 since WWII," Stovall wrote in a note. "However, a decline in this seven-day period saw the S&P 500 post an average annual increase of only 5.7%, posting a gain just 32% of the time." Investors will see a short trading day tomorrow as the New York Stock Exchange closes for the Christmas holiday. Trading will end Tuesday at 1 p.m. ET. (AP Photo/Yuki Iwamura) By LISA MASCARO and ALANNA DURKIN RICHER WASHINGTON (AP) — The House Ethics Committee’s long-awaited report on Matt Gaetz documents a trove of salacious allegations , including sex with an underage girl, that tanked the Florida Republican’s bid to lead the Justice Department . Citing text messages, travel receipts, online payments and testimony, the bipartisan committee paints a picture of a lifestyle in which Gaetz and others connected with younger women for drug-fueled parties, events or trips, with the expectation the women would be paid for their participation. The former congressman, who filed a last-minute lawsuit to try to block the report’s release on Monday, slammed the committee’s findings. Gaetz has denied any wrongdoing and has insisted he never had sex with a minor. And a Justice Department investigation into the allegations ended without any criminal charges filed against him. “Giving funds to someone you are dating — that they didn’t ask for — and that isn’t ‘charged’ for sex is now prostitution?!?” Gaetz wrote in one post on Monday. “There is a reason they did this to me in a Christmas Eve-Eve report and not in a courtroom of any kind where I could present evidence and challenge witnesses.” Here’s a look at some of the committee’s key findings: The committee found that between 2017 and 2020, Gaetz paid tens of thousands of dollars to women “likely in connection with sexual activity and/or drug use.” He paid the women using through online services such as PayPal, Venmo, and CashApp and with cash or check, the committee said. The committee said it found evidence that Gaetz understood the “transactional nature” of his relationships with the women. The report points to one text exchange in which Gaetz balked at a woman’s request that he send her money, “claiming she only gave him a ‘drive by.’” Women interviewed by the committee said there was a “general expectation of sex,” the report said. One woman who received more than $5,000 from Gaetz between 2018 and 2019 said that “99 percent of the time” that when she hung out with Gaetz “there was sex involved.” However, Gaetz was in a long-term relationship with one of the women he paid, so “some of the payments may have been of a legitimate nature,” the committee said. Text messages obtained by the committee also show that Gaetz would ask the women to bring drugs to their “rendezvous,” the report said. While most of his encounters with the women were in Florida, the committee said Gaetz also traveled “on several occasions” with women whom he paid for sex. The report includes text message exchanges in which Gaetz appears to be inviting various women to events, getaways or parties, and arranging airplane travel and lodging. Gaetz associate Joel Greenberg, who pleaded guilty to sex trafficking charges in 2021, initially connected with women through an online service. In one text with a 20-year-old woman, Greenberg suggested if she has a friend, the four of them could meet up. The woman responded that she usually does “$400 per meet.” Greenberg replied: “He understands the deal,” along with a smiley face emoji. Greenberg asks if they are old enough to drink alcohol, and sent the woman a picture of Gaetz. The woman responded that her friend found him “really cute.” “Well, he’s down here for only for the day, we work hard and play hard,” Greenberg replied. The report details a party in July 2017 in which Gaetz is accused of having sex with “multiple women, including the 17-year-old, for which they were paid.” The committee pointed to “credible testimony” from the now-woman herself as well as “multiple individuals” who corroborated the allegation. The then-17-year-old — who had just completed her junior year in high school — told the committee that Gaetz paid her $400 in cash that night, “which she understood to be payment for sex,” according to the report. The woman acknowledged that she had taken ecstasy the night of the party, but told the committee that she was “certain” of her sexual encounters with the then-congressman. There’s no evidence that Gaetz knew she was a minor when he had sex with her, the committee said. The woman told the committee she didn’t tell Gaetz she was under 18 at the time and that he didn’t how old she was. Rather, the committee said Gaetz learned she was a minor more than a month after the party. But he stayed in touch with her after that and met up with her for “commercial sex” again less than six months after she turned 18, according to the committee. In sum, the committee said it authorized 29 subpoenas for documents and testimony, reviewed nearly 14,000 documents and contacted more than two dozen witnesses. But when the committee subpoenaed Gaetz for his testimony, he failed to comply. “Gaetz pointed to evidence that would ‘exonerate’ him yet failed to produce any such materials,” the committee said. Gaetz “continuously sought to deflect, deter, or mislead the Committee in order to prevent his actions from being exposed.” The report details a months-long process that dragged into a year as it sought information from Gaetz that he decried as “nosey” and a “weaponization” of government against him. In one notable exchange, investigators were seeking information about the expenses for a 2018 get-away with multiple women to the Bahamas. Gaetz ultimately offered up his plane ticket receipt “to” the destination, but declined to share his return “from” the Bahamas. The report said his return on a private plane and other expenses paid by an associate were in violation of House gift rules. In another Gaetz told the committee he would “welcome” the opportunity to respond to written questions. Yet, after it sent a list of 16 questions, Gaetz said publicly he would “no longer” voluntarily cooperate. He called the investigation “frivolous,” adding: “Every investigation into me ends the same way: my exoneration.” The report said that while Gaetz’s obstruction of the investigation does not rise to a criminal violation it is inconsistent with the requirement that all members of Congress “act in a manner that reflects creditably upon the House.” The committee began its review of Gaetz in April 2021 and deferred its work in response to a Justice Department request. It renewed its work shortly after Gaetz announced that the Justice Department had ended a sex trafficking investigation without filing any charges against him. The committee sought records from the Justice Department about the probe, but the agency refused, saying it doesn’t disclose information about investigations that don’t result in charges. The committee then subpoenaed the Justice Department, but after a back-and-forth between officials and the committee, the department handed over “publicly reported information about the testimony of a deceased individual,” according to the report. “To date, DOJ has provided no meaningful evidence or information to the Committee or cited any lawful basis for its responses,” the committee said. Many of the women who the committee spoke to had already given statements to the Justice Department and didn’t want to “relive their experience,” the committee said. “They were particularly concerned with providing additional testimony about a sitting congressman in light of DOJ’s lack of action on their prior testimony,” the report said. The Justice Department, however, never handed over the women’s statements. The agency’s lack of cooperation — along with its request that the committee pause its investigation — significantly delayed the committee’s probe, lawmakers said. Dive into in a world that combines tradition and modernity, Japanese mythology, and steampunk technology.: ESPN Creative Studio’s Michael ‘Spike’ Szykowny Pulls Back the Curtain on Creative Process The Simpsons Funday Football Monday Night Football The Simpsons Funday Football Simpsons Simpsons Simpsons As we started looking at possibilities for our next [animated broadcast] this season, was at the top of our wish list, and, thankfully, [ team] was up to do it. Part of it was dictated by the time of the game: was early in the morning and seemed like a better time for kids, but a primetime game definitely works better for something like . Once we got the greenlight, we had about 31⁄2 months to put this together, but we were also working in parallel on [alternative NBA broadcast] so it has been a very busy time. Obviously, they have been doing this very successfully for 36 years, so we wanted them to take full ownership and determine the story they wanted to tell. It all started with the reason this game is happening. They came up with the idea of Homer falling asleep and the game taking place in Homer’s dream. Inside Homer’s dream anything can happen, so that gave us the main canvas to work with. Of course, you can’t plan everything for a live game, but you can certainly plan the beginning, middle, and end, and we fill in the rest as the game is happening. I think it’s also important to note that, from the start, the NFL was great about working with us and [the team], hearing all of our ideas, and turning back very few. They were wonderful partners, and they got the spirit of what we were trying to accomplish and jumped on board with how we have to work for a project like this. has always been edgy and not wanting to just repeat the same things. I think that [is evident] in [their] letting us work in that universe. In every project like this, you start with a lot of people involved, and then you end up whittling it down to a core team that is going to be working on it every day. With that small group, we were able to move quickly and make decisions because you have to keep moving forward on these kinds of projects; there’s no looking backward. [team] — especially and , whom we worked with closely — understood that very well. I feel like we were in sync with those folks. Of course, they’re doing their show every week, and we’re doing our day jobs so we all have a lot going on besides this project, but we were able to work together to get it all done. [ team] deserves so much credit for putting the trust and faith in us to make that [2D-to-3D] transition. They actually have done 3D in some of their “Treehouse of Horror” broadcasts in the past. We got models from the company that they used, and we built out a lot of it ourselves, too. We started with just the main characters — Bart, Homer, Lisa, Marge, and Maggie — and expanded the universe from there. It’s tricky because lighting for 3D is different from lighting for 2D and there are a lot of other factors that you need to account for. But, in the end, I think we pulled off. It was truly a team effort between us, , Gracie Films, and we also worked with our friends at Big Studios, who handled a lot of the 3D animation work. It was a true partnership, and I think that shows in the final product. It’s interesting because they all have their own unique challenges and advantages. With , the actors strike was going on, so we couldn’t have voices in it. With , we had the actual creators involved in the live game [broadcast] because they voice the characters for the show. For this one, we were able to get all voice actors involved and record enough [content] to tell the whole story from end to end. I think what we learned is that what might work for one [animated broadcast] doesn’t necessarily work for the next one. Ultimately, I think, we always try to get a little bit better at everything we do with each one. This is the first one where I feel like we’re telling a whole story from start to finish during the game. Our animation and our production pipelines continue to get much better with each broadcast. Once you do one or two, you know how the process works. It’s a lot to create the amount of material needed to pull this off, so you have to be efficient, and I think we’ve done a really good job of that. Every partner works differently, too. Pixar works differently from the way or people did. Ultimately, it’s about learning what works best for that particular group at that particular time and then evolving some of our internal [workflows] based on that. We took our cues from , for sure. But a lot of people working on this at ESPN are big fans who have watched the show for many years, so they played a role as well. We tried to hit on stuff that we think fans will recognize and that will feel authentically like part of universe. It’s a tricky thing because it has a big fandom and has been around for a long time, so we want to do right by it. For example, when we built Atoms Stadium, we decided to have Bart and his teammates encased in Camp Crusty and Homer and his team at Mo’s Juice Bar. We definitely worked with very closely to make sure that they were happy with how it was all being presented. These were parallel projects, which is stressful but also extremely fun. Everybody loves to work on these projects, and I say all the time that, [if you] ask for one element from an animator, they are going to come back with five elements because they’re so excited to be working on a project like this. is definitely going to prepare us more for . We’ll be in the same control room, and Beyond Sports will have the same setup for both, which is a huge advantage. In creating certain animated elements, there are some transitions and sequences where you can just swap out IP elements. We will do our best to find those little places where we can maximize efficiencies. But, for the most part, it’s all about good planning and project management. I think we’ve done a very good job of balancing the two projects and giving both the attention they deserve. If you have the right partners, it makes it all work. The Disney folks and the folks, the NFL and the NBA, everyone has been phenomenal. They are two very different shows. With , your North Star is trying to get comedy on the screen at all times. Whereas is a lot more like it’s Christmas morning, it’s peaceful, and you want to have some fun. That is a lot more about getting the pacing right and having some fun things for kids to follow along with outside of the game. It has been interesting going back and forth between the two because they are very different worlds. First of all, this is the first time they will be in voiceover booths instead of in a studio. That is going to give us better sound quality, and, since they each have the VR headset on, they can see each other whether they’re in the same room or not. Each will also have traditional monitors to call the game off of. The VR headset also provides the MOCAP technology for the body so they don’t have to wear a full MOCAP body suit. We’re always pushing the envelope and trying to be better. This is also the first show we have done with three talent in the booth. Dan will handle a lot of our technical stuff and focus on the football aspect. Mina is just wonderful and knows really well so she’s going to have a lot of fun. Drew is our veteran and has been here for all of them; he’s like the Howard Cosell of animated broadcasts. It’s great to have him almost like another crew member. The team has been wonderful. I would rock with these guys in any situation. And it’s not just a creative team. It’s the technical team, it’s the studio team, it’s the marketing; everybody bands together and works really hard. What makes Disney and ESPN so great is that we have all these resources at our disposal, but you need the right people working behind the scenes to make all this happen. There’s a unique vibe when you work on these [animated broadcasts], and I think that comes across to people watching at home. There’s always going to be stress and problems, and that stuff comes with anything you do. But, at the end of the day, the passion that everybody has to work on these projects is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. I’ve been in the business a long time, and this is the most fun I’ve ever had. Working with — it doesn’t get much better than that. The Funday FootballGlobal Adult Day Care Market To Reach $21.87 Billion By 2028 With A Growth Rate Of 6.6%
