1 2 Hyderabad: The enforcement officials of prohibition and excise department said there has been a 29 per cent increase in cases related to the violation of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS Act). Prohibition & excise director VB Kamalasan Reddy, during the annual press meet, said the number of accused arrested in NDPS Act cases went up from 1,134 in 2023 to 1,840 in 2024. The total cases registered by the excise department for different illicit distillation offences saw a two percent increase. "In 2023, we registered 20,803 cases, whereas this year, excise officials registered 21,234 cases. Similarly, 12,727 persons were arrested in 2024, which is an 8 per cent increase," Kamalasan Reddy said. The officials identified 25 hot spots across Telangana and seized stock 27 crore worth ID liquor. Operation Dhoolpet , which was started by the excise department to eradicate the supply of ganja from Dhoolpet, led to the arrest of 317 persons and the seizure of 561 kg of ganja. Another area of focus for excise officials was the seizure of Non-Duty Paid Liquor (NDPL), where 53,226 litres of liquor were seized and 2,076 persons were arrested. Across Telangana, the number of under-investigation cases decreased from 84,115 cases in Jan to 46,187 cases. Keeping in view the upcoming New Year event, the excise director said that within GHMC limits, 40 teams were formed, and they will be on the lookout for violations. The project and its results were presented during a special event held on 12 December 2024 at the Ceremonial Hall of the National & Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA), with the participation of all the implementing bodies. The project, which was funded by the Operational Program “Digital Transformation” 2021-2027 of the NSRF 2021-2027, was carried out by the Archdiocese of Athens. The implementation was undertaken by ADAPTIT, one of the most important systems integrators in Greece with extensive experience in digital projects, in collaboration with the University of Athens, which had the scientific supervision, and COMIC (Content Management In Culture). “ This project of a digital tour of 32 historic holy churches of the Holy Archdiocese of Athens is not a simple mental journey. It is a call to all of us. It invites us to return to our roots where the hearts of Christians have been beating for centuries, to experience spiritually, through digital images, the history of the capital of Athens and its religious life. It is a “reverent pilgrimage”, addressed to all ages and to those who are unable to visit and to young children who are so familiar with modern digital technology.
