The storm has lashed towns across South Wales causing flooding to residential areas, businesses, and main roads. Colin Vernall, 74, who runs the social club at the Cross Keys RFC, was cleaning inside before it flooded within minutes. He said: “I was in there at twenty past seven cleaning the club and there was not a drop of water, but by half past it was a job managing to get out of there. “We just managed to get out, but it was up to our knees. We are talking about within three minutes.” He described the sound of the floodwater hitting the building as a ‘massive woosh’ as loud as a bomb going off. I have never seen anything like it. It was a massive noise like a bomb going off.” The floodwater was up to his knees when he escaped, however, the water has risen higher since, with cars floating into each other. “It is heartbreaking. I was just in there cleaning. Then there were cars hitting each other. I have never seen anything like it in my life,” he said. He managed to get out of the building with one other person and plans to return soon to assess the damage. “We are both alright, but we have already seen cars damaged. They were floating about.” The club previously flooded in 2019 and raised over £140,000 to repair damage to the furniture and carpets. The club is 'devastated' and heartbroken by the damage and how much this flood will set them back. We worked so hard last time to get it where it was and the community had been fantastic, for it to flood now, it is just heartbreaking.” The club has plans to set up a fundraiser to help towards fixing the damage caused by the flooding in the coming days.

Bell-ringers are more commonly founders and executives chosen primarily from the exchange’s more than 2,300 listed companies. Over the last few months, the guests have included executives from Alaska Air Group, Bath & Body Works, and Ally Financial. Stock trading around the location of the NYSE’s current home has deep roots that trace back to the Dutch founding of New Amsterdam and when Wall Street had an actual wall. The NYSE traces its direct roots to the “Buttonwood Agreement” signed in 1792, which set rules for stock trading and commissions. The NYSE moved into its first permanent home in 1865. The first bell in use was actually a gong. The exchange moved into its current iconic building in 1903 and started using an electronically operated brass bell. That has evolved into synchronized bells in each of the NYSE’s four trading areas.

How did Bill Belichick end up in college football? As Belichick tells it, college football ended up in him. “College kind of came to me this year,” Belichick said during his introductory press conference at North Carolina. “I didn’t necessarily go and seek it out. But I had many coaches, I mean, probably a couple of dozen coaches, talk to me and say, ‘Hey, can we sit down and talk to you about these things?’ The let’s call it salary cap of pro football relative to college football, the headsets, the green dot, the two-minute warning, the tablets on the sideline. Those were all rules changes this year in college football that were either the same or similar to what we had in the NFL. And these coaches said, ‘Hey, coach, can we just talk to you about how you did this, how you did that? What, you know, how did you use this? How did you handle the, you know — talking about the two-minute [warning], how did that . . . affect your strategy at the end of the half, the end of the game? How did you look at it? How did you break it down?’” Belichick said that, as the conversations happened with coaches in the ACC, Big 10, SEC, and others, he became more aware of the issues in college football. Which basically turned the supposed effort to pick Belichick’s brain into Belichick’s brain being loaded up with information about college football. It’s an interesting way to conceal the possibility that Belichick wasn’t simply making him available as a resource. That he was affirmatively looking for information from all of these coaches, knowing full well he might use it against them, directly in head-to-head games and less directly in recruiting. His characterization might even be aimed at spinning his effort to learn the sausage recipe into a symbiotic gesture that resulted in both backs being scratched. Regardless, if the college coaches who approached Belichick (or were approached by him) had any idea he was thinking about coaching at the college level, they would have at a minimum been more guarded about what they said to him.
