NoneThe Zamfara State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress has criticised the 2025 budget presented by Governor Dauda Lawal, saying that it violated constitutional provisions of the country. In a statement made available to Arewa PUNCH , the spokesperson of the party, Yusuf Idris, said, the budget presentation by Lawal contravened all constitutional provisions. According to Idris, budget presentation event in any state used to be an open event for the entire world to see, however, he lamented that, the governor denied the general public and even the Press the opportunity to witness the occasion. Idris said, “While planning to spend over N545 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, Governor Dauda Lawal and his people hid in a hollowed chamber of the state House Assembly to cook up in secrecy how they intended to perfectly perpetrate their hidden agenda. “The governor, in collaboration with some security personnel, shielded everyone, especially the media, from covering the presentation and by implication denying the public knowledge or access to the budget.” He explained that the legislature suspended some of their colleagues who were perceived as opposition in order to achieve their hidden agenda. He said, “The legislature had ahead of the presentation of the budget decided to suspend nine out of the 24 members who were suspected to possibly challenge the document during and after presentation so that the process would go unchallenged”. Therefore, Idris called on the governor and the state House of Assembly to reverse the budget and follow due process. He said, “The APC in Zamfara therefore is calling on the governor to immediately reverse the budget and apologise to the people in their own interest.” The opposition party threatened to take legal action if the budget presentation is not reversed. In a sharp reaction, the Special Assistant to Governor Lawal on Media and communications Mustafa Jafaru Kaura said, “The APC is crying foul where there is none.” According to Kaura, “the APC was only trying to let people know that they were around. That is why they were always engaged in useless and baseless arguments.” He maintained that the 2025 budget presentation by Lawal was done publicly and in accordance with the constitutional provisions of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “I wonder what they are talking about in respect of the budget presentation by Governor Dauda Lawal. “The budget was presented before a large number of people and at the chamber of the state’s House of Assembly. “I don’t think these people (APC members) are serious by saying that they will take legal action. “They are only talking in order to please their members,” Kaura posited.Mastercard Inc. stock outperforms competitors despite losses on the day
