The Blood of Dawnwalker - Official Title Reveal Announcement TrailerInfluencer Lauren Curtis reveals the shocking questions two men asked her when she pulled up to a petrol station in a Mercedes READ MORE: Beauty expert, 28, reveals why she and her boyfriend don't want kids - and the phrase she wishes people would stop saying to her By MIKAELA WILKES FOR DAILY MAIL AUSTRALIA Published: 23:27 GMT, 26 November 2024 | Updated: 23:31 GMT, 26 November 2024 e-mail View comments Popular influencer Lauren Curtis took to Instagram on Wednesday in outrage to vent about two men who catcalled her outside of a WA petrol station. Lauren is better known online as Australia's YouTube beauty queen, who launched her channel in 2011, and quickly grew a dedicated audience of followers across all social media platforms. The 31-year-old said she stopped into a petrol station to fill up her Mercedes and noticed there were two male tradies doing work nearby. She recounted the all-too-familiar experience of unwanted catcalling and harassment. 'What would you say to men in this situation?' she asked her 1.1million followers. 'I didn't realise, but there must've been two of them,' she said. 'Because I would rather poke my own eyeballs out with hot skewers than look at them, because that's exactly what they wanted.' Australian beauty YouTuber Lauren Curtis asked her followers how they would've responded to the men who catcalled her outside a petrol station When the influencer refused to pay the men any attention, they asked her if she'd bought her Mercedes with her parents money, or from Only Fans earnings 'They were talking about me and as I walked past to get into the petrol station, I know they were trying to get my attention but I ignored them,' she continued. 'But I ignored them, as I always do,' she added, indicating that as a woman in her thirties this is an unpleasant experience she's well accustomed to. 'I am sure that because I ignored them, as I was walking out, their attitude completely changed.' As Lauren left the petrol station to walk back to her car, the two men started yelling out to her more aggressively and asked two incredibly disrespectful questions. 'Because I had a Mercedes they used the classic line: Parents' money? Parents' money? OnlyFans?' 'I just completely ignored them and pretended that I didn't hear them because I don't want give them the attention they so desperately crave,' she said. 'It is so easy for me to hate men,' Lauren vented. 'I'd report them to the petrol station but I doubt they'd do anything about it.' Lauren, 31, lamented how she didn't react to the 'misogynistic' comments in the moment but told her followers you always have to aware of your safety in confrontations with men Here are some of the responses that Lauren Curtis' followers suggested she could have used 'It's easier to ignore them in that moment,' she continued. 'But then I almost feel like that discredits me because I should've fought back.' 'What would you have said to them in that situation?' she asked her mostly female following. 'I don't want to waste my energy, but it's also the principle of it. "How dare you feel you have the right to speak about another human being like that? You filthy little rats." 'I do not like confrontation with men I don't know. You also have to be aware of your safety too.' Thousands of Aussie women empathised with Lauren's situation in the comments section and said they had also been caught between wanting to confront a 'misogynistic' stranger and ignoring men in the interest of 'safety'. One follower suggested Lauren could've said: 'I don't have spare change, sorry!' 'I always think about all the witty things I could've said afterwards but I'm way too conscious of safety,' another woman wrote. 'You never know what people are capable of.' 'These days men are making it really hard for me not to be disgusted by all of them,' added another. 'This is why I would choose the bear,' said another, referencing the viral Man versus Bear hypothetical that has confused and angered numerous men. Many women participating in a new viral debate on TikTok say they would rather be alone with a bear than a man in the woods, answering a hypothetical question that is helping women open up about everyday misogyny they experience . In one TikTok, which has been liked more than 2 million times, a user compiled some of the most gut-wrenching reasons women chose the bear—such as 'the worst thing the bear can do is kill me,' 'the bear doesn’t get enjoyment out of it' and 'the bear sees me as a human being .' Lauren lives with her fiancé, former footy player Recce Daniels, in the southwest of WA where they built a house in 2023. The beauty blogger has previously been very open about their desire to not bring children into the world. The sub-forum contributed eastern wisdom to AI governance and digital social development, demonstrating the significance of international cooperation for the development of the digital economy, according to Gao Shaolin, advisor at Peking University's Legal Artificial Intelligence Research Center. AI governance framework The participants agreed that the next 10 years will be a critical period for the development of AI. Gao Wen, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), said since China's State Council issued a guideline on developing AI in 2017, the nation has made significant progress in AI research and development and industrial layout, especially in computing power and 5G network construction. By the end of 2023, China had over half of the world's 1.57 billion 5G users, according to the World Internet Development Report 2024. It ranked second globally in AI and computing power scale, which has laid a solid foundation for the rapid development of AI. Tatsuo Yamazaki , project professor at the International University of Health and Welfare, said it was very meaningful for Japan and China to discuss strengthening AI governance rules. Fumihiko Kamio , research director of the Nomura Research Institute, echoed his view. He emphasized that the core goal of AI technology is to improve productivity and eliminate obstacles to social development, and called on Chinese and Japanese experts to work together to build an AI governance framework to cope with the global challenges. Deepening international cooperation China put forth the Global AI Governance Initiative in October last year. In July, the UN General Assembly adopted a China -sponsored resolution on enhancing international cooperation on AI capacity-building. The participants spoke highly of the Global Cross-Border Data Flow Cooperation Initiative recently proposed by China . They agreed that AI governance requires global collaboration, especially in the formulation of international standards and the construction of ethical frameworks, where China and Japan can play an active role. Ding Wenhua, academician of the CAE, said China and Japan have both similarities and differences in technology development and governance priorities, so deepening cooperation will bring unique value to global AI governance. " China and Japan should deepen AI technology cooperation between enterprises, work together in AI security research, talent exchange, and jointly explore more possibilities for the application of technology," Wang Zhongyuan , president of the Beijing Academy of Artificial Intelligence, said. Balancing development & risks AI governance refers to the guardrails established to ensure AI systems and tools remain safe and ethical and respect human rights. Xu Zhilong , editor-in-chief of Science and Technology Daily, stressed that AI, as a revolutionary technology, has far-reaching impacts on all areas of society and economy. However, its potential risks such as data leakage and the spread of false information should not be ignored. "Technological progress and security ethics should be developed in a balanced way to ensure that AI technology always serves the progress of human civilization," Xu said. AI governance should not only heed the current technological ethics issues, but also prevent possible long-term risks, such as AI going out of human control, according to Toshio Iwamoto , senior corporate advisor of NTT DATA. He said AI R&D and application should abide by the principles of fairness, transparency, safety and availability. Yuan Yue, chairman of Beijing Dataway Horizon, shared his view from the perspective of regulatory models. "Policy choices should be based on the current status and goals of national technological development," Yuan said, adding that China prefers to provide a more friendly development environment for enterprises while ensuring an effective response to risks. ISTANBUL Australia introduced a draft law Thursday that would ban children under 16 from accessing social media, aiming to tackle online harm among minors. Communications Minister Michelle Rowland emphasized the need for the law, citing statistics that two-thirds of teens aged 14 - 17 have encountered harmful content online. “Keeping Australians safe online is a top priority for the (Prime Minister Anthony) Albanese government,” said Rowland, highlighting dangers like content promoting drug abuse and self-harm. The legislation will apply to major social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat. The draft would give social media companies a year to implement age-verification systems. X owner Elon Musk joined the debate, saying: "Seems like a backdoor way to control access to the Internet by all Australians," quoting Albanese’s support for the law. The legislation also proposes hefty fines of up to AU$50 million ($32 million) for platforms that do not comply.
