The new "rigt to know" guidance aims to tell victims the identity of their abuser at the earliest opportunity. It comes as a new map reveals the places in Wales with the most cases of stalking. Across Wales, Denbigshire is the hotspot with the most stalking crime reports, with 10.8 per 100,000 people. This is closely followed by Blaenau Gwent , with 10.7 per 100,000 population. Minister for safeguarding, Jess Phillips told BBC Radio 4's Today programme: “Currently, victims might not be told who their stalker is, leaving them potentially walking past them on the street without knowing." Since stalking became a specific offence in 2012, crime reports have increased every year, up to a record 132,000 in the year ending June 2024. That was 40 times higher than when the offence first appeared in crime data in 2015, 10 times higher than in 2018 and a 12% increase in the last year. Offences also more than doubled during the pandemic - when lockdown restrictions meant online social media was the only form of communication available for many - rising from 46,000 crime reports in the year ending June 2020 to 109,000 a year later. You can see how your area compares using this interactive map. Stalking, defined as persistent and unwanted attention that leaves victims feeling harassed, is at the centre of new Home Office measures. Police will now be able to disclose the identity of online stalkers more swiftly. For the latest Welsh news delivered to your inbox sign up to our newsletter The changes were influenced by broadcaster and campaigner Nicola Thorp, who endured months of online stalking and abuse from a man dubbing himself "the Grim Reaper". Thorp was subjected to a relentless barrage of violent and misogynistic messages across nearly 30 social media profiles created by her stalker. Nicola Thorp, known for her roles on Coronation Street and as a presenter on Talk TV, has been instrumental in pushing for legislative change. This came after authorities initially refused to reveal the identity of her stalker, even post-arrest, despite him once claiming he had been close enough to "could smell" her on a train. It wasn't until her stalker appeared in court that Nicola learned his true identity. He is currently serving a 30-month prison sentence and is subject to a lifetime restraining order. Commenting on the new measures, Nicola stated: "For too long, stalking victims have been at the mercy not only of their stalker, but a justice system that failed to protect them. These new measures will empower victims to regain some much-needed control of their lives and police to bring abusers to justice." In addition to revealing stalker identities, the Home Office intends to expand the availability of Stalking Protection Orders. Stalking Protection Orders, which can ban stalkers from going within a certain distance of their victim or contacting them and can also compel them to attend a perpetrator programme to address the causes of their behaviour, are currently only granted by the courts if the police apply for them. However, in future, courts will have the power to impose these orders directly at conviction or even at acquittal if there is enough evidence to suggest the victim is still at risk. Olivia Lloyd | (TNS) The Charlotte Observer CHARLOTTE, N.C.— A pet food company based in North Carolina is recalling puppy mix sold in seven states after a batch tested positive for salmonella, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said. The contamination came to light when a litter of puppies got sick after consuming Blue Ridge Beef’s Puppy Mix, and the customer reported it to the Virginia Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, according to the FDA. The FDA said it notified the company that the food tested positive for salmonella on Nov. 27, and Blue Ridge Beef issued a voluntary recall on its 2-pound plastic-wrapped logs sold in North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York. The recall affects puppy mix sold from Aug. 6 to Aug. 23 with logs labeled with lot numbers 08/06/N25 and 08/16/N25, with UPC 854298001696. It’s not the company’s only recall in the past year. In January, Blue Ridge Beef expanded a December 2023 recall of its puppy mix, as well as some of its kitten food, due to possible salmonella and listeria contamination, FDA records show. “Pets with Salmonella infections may be lethargic and have diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, fever and vomiting,” according to the FDA. “Some pets will have only decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can be carriers and infect other animals or humans.” Related Articles National News | Abandoned mines in the US pose dangers to people and property when land gives way National News | White House says at least 8 US telecom firms, dozens of nations impacted by China hacking campaign National News | Powell: Fed’s independence from politics is vital to its interest rate decisions National News | United Healthcare CEO kept a low public profile. Israel’s Defense Minister Israel Katz publicly acknowledged for the first time on Monday that Israel was behind the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Iran in July, a move that could further escalate tensions with Tehran amid ongoing conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon. "These days, when the Houthi terrorist organization is firing missiles at Israel, I want to convey a clear message to them at the beginning of my remarks: We have defeated Hamas, we have defeated Hezbollah, we have blinded Iran's defense systems and damaged the production systems, we have toppled the Assad regime in Syria, we have dealt a severe blow to the axis of evil, and we will also deal a severe blow to the Houthi terrorist organization in Yemen, which remains the last to stand," Katz said. Israel will "damage their strategic infrastructure, and we will behead their leaders - just as we did to Haniyeh, Sinwar and Nasrallah in Tehran, Gaza and Lebanon - we will do it in Hodeidah and Sana'a," Katz said during an evening honoring defense ministry personnel. The Iran-backed group in Yemen has been attacking commercial shipping in the Red Sea for more than a year to try to enforce a naval blockade on Israel, saying they are acting in solidarity with Palestinians against Israel's year-long genocide in Gaza. In late July, the political leader of the Palestinian resistance group Hamas was killed in Tehran in an assassination blamed on Israel by Iranian authorities. There was no direct claim of responsibility by Israel for the killing of Haniyeh at the time. Haniyeh, normally based in Qatar, had been the face of Hamas' international diplomacy. He had been taking part in internationally brokered indirect talks on reaching a cease-fire in the Palestinian enclave. Months after, Israeli forces in Gaza also killed Yahya Sinwar, Haniyeh's successor.By Fernando Kallas BILBAO, Spain (Reuters) – Kylian Mbappe has struggled to reach the performance levels that were expected when he signed for Real Madrid, but he has been working hard to return to his old-self, coach Carlo Ancelotti acknowledged on Wednesday. After missing a penalty in Real’s Champions League loss at Liverpool last week, Mbappe failed to convert another spot-kick on Wednesday as the LaLiga champions slumped to a 2-1 defeat at Athletic Bilbao. It was another lacklustre performance by Mbappe and Real Madrid, which led to their fourth loss in the last seven games in all competitions, raising more questions about their form with the France captain firmly under the spotlight. “He is at a lot more than just 1% (of his potential), but he’s not at his best,” Ancelotti told a press conference. “However, we have to give him time to adapt (to Real Madrid). He has scored 10 goals and is working hard to improve and to do better. “I haven’t spoken to him yet. It was a complicated, even, hard-fought, competitive game. We missed a penalty... I don’t evaluate a player’s game because of a missed penalty... sometimes you score and sometimes you miss. Obviously he’s sad, disappointed, but we have to keep going.” Real missed the chance to close the gap on leaders Barcelona who top the standings on 37 points, four ahead of Ancelotti’s side in second place and five above Atletico Madrid in third, with both the chasing clubs having a game in hand. “The match was evenly matched. Athletic are a very dangerous team, we competed and fought. I think the match was worth a draw,” Ancelotti said. “But it is what it is... We’re still in contention and have to keep fighting. We could have got a better result, but we’re here and we have to think about Saturday’s game at Girona.” (Reporting by Fernando Kallas; Editing by Toby Davis) Disclaimer: This report is auto generated from the Reuters news service. Tulisa Contostavlos, fresh out of the I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! jungle, has reportedly had a significant fallout with her close friend following her departure from the show. The 36 year old former N-Dubz star, who was the third to be voted off, has completely purged her Instagram of any mention of her stint on the ITV series and pulled out of a booked slot on the post-show special, Unpacked. Moreover, Tulisa notably did not meet up with Melvin Odoom when he left the camp last Tuesday. Opening up about her actions, Tulisa owned up that she felt swamped by social media attention and needed to disconnect. "I can get overwhelmed quite easily and started to feel overwhelmed. I realised I needed to take time for myself, and to chill, it's all a little bit much at the moment," she revealed. READ MORE: Sir Elton John makes rare health admission as he's led off stage by husband David Furnish The singer then elaborated on why she scrapped her social media posts, pointing out that her page managed by friends during her time in the jungle didn't reflect her personal approach. "I'm just going to archive all my stuff to do with the jungle and then, when the time is right and I've had time to process, I'm going to make my own reels of my best bits that I really like," she stated, reports the Mirror . "Because remember, I haven't been doing my Instagrams. The way it's being posted and all the random stuff is not how I would do my Insta - I would have one or two really good reels relating to the jungle and bringing my time together there." However, it has now been reported that Tulisa had a heated argument with her friend, Michelle McKenna, who had flown to Australia to greet her after her eviction from the jungle. According to a source, Tulisa felt that her friend had "taken liberties" by making the trip. The source told Mail Online: "They were only in Australia because of Tulisa. It felt like they were revelling in the situation and taking liberties on her kindness. Michelle and Daniel were there, on a trip funded by ITV and only because of Tulisa. They were there because of her and she trusted them with her social media. "When she got out of the jungle and saw what had been put on there, she was upset and it prompted a huge row. You can't help but think that seeing her friends living it up like that while she was roughing it in the jungle must have really annoyed her," the source added. “Tulisa and the two friends who came to Australia with her disappeared after she came out. No one saw her in the hotel and she wasn’t talking to anyone,” an insider told The Sun . “Her mates were talking among themselves and were worried as no one could pin her down. They were chatting back and forth in their group chats and no one could raise her. It was total radio silence.” A second source also came forwards, adding: “Not having Tulisa at the hotel with the other stars has been odd, and people don’t know whether or not she’ll be back to film the reunion. Naturally everyone just wants her to be all right and ITV and her campmates are being supportive.” Tulisa's last public appearance was on ITV's Lorraine on Tuesday, where she discussed her time in the jungle. During the show, the star hinted that not all of her famous friends were being as genuine as she had been. During her appearance on Lorraine's show, Tulisa reflected on the bonds she forged in the jungle, expressing mixed sentiments: "I feel like I have with some of them. I think they will be friends for life. But a lot of people for the cameras were being very pally pally but the real test will be when everyone is out. Will they make the effort to send texts in the group chat? Will they do the four hour drives to see each other? We'll see..." she pondered. When prompted by Lorraine about who she's backing to take the crown this year, Tulisa didn't hesitate to name Oti Mabuse as her favourite, having developed a close connection during their time in the wilderness. "Oti is just a pure soul. She's amazing and people like her are hard to come by." Tulisa also disclosed that she felt most attuned to fellow jungle campmates Alan Halsall, Maura Higgins, and Melvin Odoom, hoping they, along with Oti, would make it to the final quartet. The Mirror reports it has approached Tulisa's representatives for comment.I"m A Celebrity fans have spotted something different about GK Barry during the latest trial. In the latest episode of the ITV show, celebrities were given the chance to win immunity from the next two vote-offs, which guarantees them a place in the final four and the opportunity to take part in the Celebrity Cyclone trial. The campmates were split into two groups of four, with each group taking on a head-to-head trial to gather tickets. The four celebrities who collected the most tickets will go head-to-head in Thursday night's show to win the immunity prize. READ MORE: ITV I'm A Celebrity fans say 'they've ruined it' as show favourite gets major shake-up Podcaster and Loose Women star GK Barry was the first to give the trial a go, alongside Coleen Rooney, Reverend Richard Coles and Danny Jones. The celebrities had to retrieve coins from a container of fish guts that they then put into a claw machine to pick up balls that had tickets inside, all while getting showered with bugs. GK, whose real name is Grace, told Ant and Dec that she "would like to never do that again" at the end of the trial. But fans at home noticed that GK, who has been heard screaming loudly during previous trials, had remained very quiet as she took on the task. GK was focused during the trial (Image: ITV / X) Some fans wondered why the campmate had remained so cool during the trial, with some suggesting she was focused on trying to win the prize and others saying she had 'forgotten' to scream. Afterwards, GK admitted: "I didn't even care about those cockroaches, I was shaking them off left right and centre." Fans took to social media to share their thoughts. "GK seems to have forgotten to continually scream," one viewer wrote on X, formerly Twitter . "Is this one of the quietest trials bar a few screams from GK?" another fan asked. "GK Barry got stuck in on this trial to win a place in Celebrity Cyclone without screaming. Funny that eh," a third person wrote. A fourth added: "Never heard GK this quiet in the presence of bugs, home girl is focused." "Funny someone who was screaming so much last night is barely screaming right now," another said, while somebody else commented: "At least Maura is consistent with her screaming. GK screaming disappeared." At the end of the episode, Ant and Dec went back into camp to reveal the winners of the trial. The presenters told the campmates that Danny, Coleen, Maura Higgins and Oti Mabuse won the most tickets and would be taking part in the final contest to win immunity.Trump has flip-flopped on abortion policy. FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — This was not the homecoming scenario Kirk Cousins would have scripted. Cousins' return to Minnesota, his NFL home from 2018 through 2023, on Sunday comes as he is hearing speculation about his job security in Atlanta. Cousins has thrown six interceptions with no touchdowns in the Falcons' three-game losing streak. That includes four picks in last week's 17-13 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, his most in a decade. LUQUE, Paraguay (AP) — Sake is perhaps more Japanese than the world-famous sushi. It's brewed in centuries-old mountaintop warehouses, savored in the country’s pub-like izakayas, poured during weddings and served slightly chilled for special toasts. The smooth rice wine that plays a crucial role in Japan's culinary traditions was enshrined on Wednesday by UNESCO on its list of the “intangible cultural heritage of humanity." At a meeting in Luque, Paraguay, members of UNESCO’s committee for safeguarding humanity's cultural heritage voted to recognize 45 cultural practices and products around the world, including Brazilian white cheese, Caribbean cassava bread and Palestinian olive oil soap. Unlike UNESCO’s World Heritage List, which includes sites considered important to humanity like the Pyramids of Giza in Egypt, the Intangible Cultural Heritage designation names products and practices of different cultures that are deserving of recognition. A Japanese delegation welcomed the announcement in Luque. “Sake is considered a divine gift and is essential for social and cultural events in Japan,” Kano Takehiro, the Japanese ambassador to UNESCO, told The Associated Press. The basic ingredients of sake are few: rice, water, yeast and koji, a rice mold, which breaks down the starches into fermentable sugars like malting does in beer production. The whole two-monthlong process of steaming, stirring, fermenting and pressing can be grueling. The rice — which wields tremendous marketing power as part of Japan's broader cultural identity — is key to the alcoholic brew. For a product to be categorized Japanese sake, the rice must be Japanese. The UNESCO recognition, the delegation said, captured more than the craft knowledge of making high-quality sake. It also honored a tradition dating back some 1,000 years — sake makes a cameo in Japan’s famous 11th century novel, “The Tale of Genji,” as the drink of choice in the refined Heian court. Now, officials hope to restore sake's image as Japan's premier alcoholic drink even as the younger drinkers in the country switch to imported wine or domestic beer and whiskey. “It means a lot to Japan and to the Japanese,” Takehiro said of the UNESCO designation. "This will help to renew interest in traditional sake elaboration.” Also, Japanese breweries have expressed hope that the listing could give a little lift to the country's export economy as the popularity of sake booms around the world and in the United States amid heightened interest in Japanese cuisine. Sake exports, mostly to the U.S. and China, now rake in over $265 million a year, according to the Japan Sake and Shochu Makers Association, a trade group. Japan's delegation appeared ready to celebrate on Wednesday — in classic Japanese style. After the announcement, Takehiro raised a cypress box full of sake to toast the alcoholic brew and cultural rite.
