The Minnesota Timberwolves gave the Boston Celtics a run and had a chance to win it on the last possession but came up short in a 107-105 loss at TD Garden on Sunday afternoon. Coming into Sunday’s game, no team in the NBA has made more threes per game than Boston (18.6), but only three other teams have averaged more than the Wolves (15.5). With Mike Conley still out due to a toe injury, the Timberwolves opted to start Donte DiVincenzo in his place and move Nickeil Alexander-Walker back to his usual bench role to match up better defensively against the Celtics. Unfortunately for Minnesota, Boston still shot 37.5% from deep and made 21 three while the Wolves shot 35.7% on threes and made 15. Follow us on Facebook Minnesota tried to make up that difference at the free throw line and did get there six times more than Boston. However, they made only four more attempts. The difference in made threes and free throws proved to be the difference in a two-point game. The Wolves dominated the paint, 44-30, and owned the glass, out-rebounded the Celtics by nine and making use of their size advantage down low. However, Boston tallied seven blocks to Minnesota’s one and strung together better shooting stretches. The Timberwolves kept it tight in the first half, leading by as much as six, even. However, things flipped in the second half as the Celtics came out of the break strong. Boston held a three-point lead at the half but, after the Wolves trimmed the deficit to one, a 14-0 Boston in a span of 3:23 early in the third quarter put the Celtics in control. The lead ballooned to 19 a short time later but the Wolves responded by upping their defense and getting to the line. That helped Minnesota cut it to an 11-point game by the end of the third and creep within two with two minutes to play in the fourth. However, with a chance to tie or take the lead, Anthony Edwards missed a three and Jaylen Brown connect from deep. The Wolves gave themselves another chance, trailing by two on the final possession, but a rushed, last-second three by Naz Reid just missed after the Celtics collapsed on Edwards. Brown and Jayson Tatum combined to score 55 for the Celtics on 18-of-39 shooting, including 12-of-22 from downtown. Edwards led the Wolves with 28 points and 6-of-11 shooting from three but was 9-of-21 overall. Julius Randle added 23 points and six rebounds and Rob Dillingham had a career-high 14 points in 16 minutes off the bench. Minnesota (8-8) will next host Houston on Tuesday night in an NBA Cup game. City manager Guardiola said: “Of course I question myself but I’m stable in good moments and bad moments. “I try to find a way to do it. I’m incredibly honest. If we play good (I say) we played good and today I thought we played good. “Our game will save us. We can do it. We conceded few chances compared to the Nottingham Forest game that we won. We’re making the right tempo. “We missed the last pass, did not arrive in the six-yard box (at the right time) or have the composure at the right moment. “But I love my team. This is life, it happens. Sometimes you have a bad period but I’m going to insist until we’re there.” City now face a crunch trip to Paris St Germain, who are also at risk of failing to qualify, next month. Guardiola accepts the top 24 is now the only aim. He said: “It’s the target. We need one point or three points. We go to Paris to try to do it and the last game at home.” Veteran midfielder Ilkay Gundogan said after the game he felt City were suffering from a loss of confidence but Guardiola dismissed his player’s comments. “I am not agreeing with Ilkay,” he said. “Of course it is tough but, except one or two games in this period, we’ve played good.” City now face a further test of their resolve as they host rivals Manchester United in a derby on Sunday. That’s a mental issue as well. “You can see that sometimes we miss the ball or lose a duel and you see that we drop immediately and lose the rhythm. They (the opponents) don’t even need to do much but it has such a big effect on us right now. “Even more you have to do the simple things as good as possible and create and fluidity, then it’s work hard again. This is how you get confidence back – do the small and simple things, (but) in crucial moments at the moment we are always doing the wrong things.” Juventus coach Thiago Motta was pleased with the hosts’ performance, which boosted their hopes of making the top eight. “It was a deserved victory,” he said. “We had to defend as a team and be ready to attack with quality. “We have shown we can compete at this level and now we have to do it consistently.”MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. — Sunday’s loss to the Dolphins clinched a third-straight losing season for the once-powerful Patriots. The Patriots fell to 3-9 on the season in a game defined by a second-quarter scoring surge by a Dolphins’ offense that put up 24 points in 15 minutes of play. “I thought we gave up too many big plays defensively,” head coach Jerod Mayo said. “Did a better job in the run game. Gave up too many big plays tackling, scheme, whatever you want to call it. Just overall execution defensively just wasn’t good enough.” Mayo blamed the coverage breakdowns that led to Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa going 29-of-40 for 317 yards with four touchdowns and no turnovers on “a lack of communication.” “It wasn’t a secret. They used motion and shifts and things like that to stress the communication,” Mayo said. “And we just weren’t on the same page.” Patriots safety Kyle Dugger struggled in Sunday’s loss. He was in the middle of the defense that lost track of running back Devon Achane on two touchdowns in the first half and tight end Jonnu Smith on a third. Cornerback Jonathan Jones, who won two Super Bowls and appeared in a third with the Patriots doesn’t believe players are fully focused. “I think it’s guys locking in, a lack of focus at this point,” Jones said. “Because it’s nothing that we don’t go through during the week that comes up on Sunday, so it just kind of comes out to just locking in and being prepared.” Dugger agreed, saying, “I wouldn’t really put it on other guys. As a unit, we weren’t focused all the way. There was definitely truth to that.” Defensive tackle Davon Godchaux responded to Jones’ comment by saying, “We can’t have that, though. I’m with Jonathan. Jonathan’s a veteran. I have all the respect for him. And we just can’t have it.” The secondary allowed wide receiver Jaylen Waddle go off for eight catches on nine targets for 144 yards with a touchdown and Smith to catch nine passes for 87 yards with a touchdown. Cornerback Christian Gonzalez helped limit Tyreek Hill to five catches on six targets for 48 yards. No one would blame the communication breakdowns on the Patriots’ coaching staff. Even Mayo said, “once those guys cross the white lines, there’s nothing I can do for them. There’s nothing any coach can do for them once they cross the white line.” “It’s my job to continue to prepare not only them but our coaches to go out there and play better football.” Added Jones: “I couldn’t blame it on coaching at all. I think at some point we just have to execute and lock in. Whatever’s called, lock in and execute.” Coaches may be preparing players for the situations they’re going to face, but it’s also their responsibility to dress players who are fully committed and to make sure they’re locked in for a game. If players aren’t fully focused now, then things could get even uglier with nothing to play for late in the season. The Patriots clearly won’t be making a playoff run, and many players on this team won’t be building blocks in the future if the team can rebuild under head coach Jerod Mayo. Jones has a message for players potentially packing it in. “Look in the mirror and see what you want this season to be for yourself,” Jones said. “It doesn’t stop here. Hopefully, guys want to further their career and how you handle adversity, how you handle these next few weeks is going to say a lot about you as a player, a lot about you as a person and who you want on your team when things aren’t going right.” Defensive tackle Daniel Ekuale believes players have to play for pride. “We can’t go out like this. At the end of the day, we just gotta keep on coming in and building, keep fighting every week to give us the best chance to win,” he said. Mayo, Ekuale and defensive tackle Davon Godchaux all were happy with the way the Patriots stopped the run on defense. The Dolphins ran the ball 24 times for just 65 yards. Achane scored two touchdowns as a receiver but carried the ball just 10 times for 32 yards. The Dolphins’ speedy running backs had just one carry over 10 yards. “Run defense, we did a pretty good job just had some struggles in the back end,” Godchaux said of his secondary. “We’ll look at the film, but we knew coming in today that we were going to stop the run. We knew we were going to have to make them one dimensional and pass the ball, which we did. It still didn’t really work out for us. ... “Same old story. Coming to Miami, losing. Tua’s 7-0 against us someone was telling me. Gotta give credit to them. We didn’t play a good football game. I thought the second-half defense played a lot better. Second quarter, we gave up 24 points. I don’t even know what was going on. I know the back end had some miscommunication going on, but we’ll take a look at it. It’s pretty frustrating. Coming in, just put it aside for me, playing here years ago, but it’s just really embarrassing.” The Patriots are 1-3 in divisional games now. Their final two in-division games come against the first-place Bills in Weeks 16 and 18.gstar28 casino

Luigi Nicholas Mangione, the suspect in the fatal shooting of a healthcare executive in New York City, apparently was living a charmed life: the grandson of a wealthy real estate developer, valedictorian of his elite Baltimore prep school and with degrees from one of the nation’s top private universities. Friends at an exclusive co-living space at the edge of touristy Waikiki in Hawaii where the 26-year-old Mangione once lived widely considered him a “great guy,” and pictures on his social media accounts show a fit, smiling, handsome young man on beaches and at parties. Now, investigators in New York and Pennsylvania are working to piece together why Mangione may have diverged from this path to make the violent and radical decision to gun down UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in a brazen attack on a Manhattan street. The killing sparked widespread discussions about corporate greed, unfairness in the medical insurance industry and even inspired folk-hero sentiment toward his killer. But Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro sharply refuted that perception after Mangione’s arrest on Monday when a customer at a McDonald’s restaurant in Pennsylvania spotted Mangione eating and noticed he resembled the shooting suspect in security-camera photos released by New York police. “In some dark corners, this killer is being hailed as a hero. Hear me on this, he is no hero,” Shapiro said. “The real hero in this story is the person who called 911 at McDonald’s this morning.” Mangione’s family and upbringing Mangione comes from a prominent Maryland family. His grandfather, Nick Mangione, who died in 2008, was a successful real estate developer. One of his best-known projects was Turf Valley Resort, a sprawling luxury retreat and conference center outside Baltimore that he purchased in 1978. The Mangione family also purchased Hayfields Country Club north of Baltimore in 1986. On Monday, Baltimore County police officers blocked off an entrance to the property, which public records link to Luigi Mangione’s parents. Reporters and photographers gathered outside the entrance. The father of 10 children, Nick Mangione prepared his five sons — including Luigi Mangione’s father, Louis Mangione — to help manage the family business, according to a 2003 Washington Post report. Nick Mangione had 37 grandchildren, including Luigi, according to the grandfather’s obituary. Luigi Mangione’s grandparents donated to charities through the Mangione Family Foundation, according to a statement from Loyola University commemorating Nick Mangione’s wife’s death in 2023. They donated to various causes, including Catholic organizations, colleges and the arts. One of Luigi Mangione’s cousins is Republican Maryland state legislator Nino Mangione, a spokesman for the lawmaker’s office confirmed. “Our family is shocked and devastated by Luigi’s arrest,” Mangione’s family said in a statement posted on social media by Nino Mangione. “We offer our prayers to the family of Brian Thompson and we ask people to pray for all involved.” Mangione’s education and work history Mangione, who was valedictorian of his elite Maryland prep school, earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in computer science in 2020 from the University of Pennsylvania, a university spokesman told The Associated Press. He learned to code in high school and helped start a club at Penn for people interested in gaming and game design, according to a 2018 story in Penn Today, a campus publication. His social media posts suggest he belonged to the fraternity Phi Kappa Psi. They also show him taking part in a 2019 program at Stanford University, and in photos with family and friends at the Jersey Shore and in Hawaii, San Diego, Puerto Rico, and other destinations. The Gilman School, from which Mangione graduated in 2016, is one of Baltimore’s elite prep schools. The children of some of the city’s wealthiest and most prominent residents, including Orioles legend Cal Ripken Jr., have attended the school. Its alumni include sportswriter Frank Deford and former Arizona Gov. Fife Symington. In his valedictory speech, Luigi Mangione described his classmates’ “incredible courage to explore the unknown and try new things.” Mangione took a software programming internship after high school at Maryland-based video game studio Firaxis, where he fixed bugs on the hit strategy game Civilization 6, according to a LinkedIn profile. Firaxis’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive, said it would not comment on former employees. He more recently worked at the car-buying website TrueCar, but has not worked there since 2023, the head of the Santa Monica, California-based company confirmed to the AP. Time in Hawaii and reports of back pain From January to June 2022, Mangione lived at Surfbreak, a “co-living” space at the edge of touristy Waikiki in Honolulu. Like other residents of the shared penthouse catering to remote workers, Mangione underwent a background check, said Josiah Ryan, a spokesperson for owner and founder R.J. Martin. “Luigi was just widely considered to be a great guy. There were no complaints,” Ryan said. “There was no sign that might point to these alleged crimes they’re saying he committed.” At Surfbreak, Martin learned Mangione had severe back pain from childhood that interfered with many aspects of his life, including surfing, Ryan said. “He went surfing with R.J. once but it didn’t work out because of his back,” Ryan said, but noted that Mangione and Martin often went together to a rock-climbing gym. Mangione left Surfbreak to get surgery on the mainland, Ryan said, then later returned to Honolulu and rented an apartment. An image posted to a social media account linked to Mangione showed what appeared to be an X-ray of a metal rod and multiple screws inserted into someone’s lower spine. Martin stopped hearing from Mangione six months to a year ago. An X account linked to Mangione includes recent posts about the negative impact of smartphones on children; healthy eating and exercise habits; psychological theories; and a quote from Indian philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti about the dangers of becoming “well-adjusted to a profoundly sick society.” Police report a darker turn Mangione likely was motivated by his anger at what he called “parasitic” health insurance companies and a disdain for corporate greed, according to a law enforcement bulletin obtained by AP. Winnipeg Jets Game Days On Winnipeg Jets game days, hockey writers Mike McIntyre and Ken Wiebe send news, notes and quotes from the morning skate, as well as injury updates and lineup decisions. Arrives a few hours prior to puck drop. He wrote that the U.S. has the most expensive healthcare system in the world and that the profits of major corporations continue to rise while “our life expectancy” does not, according to the bulletin, based on a review of the suspect’s handwritten notes and social media posts. He appeared to view the targeted killing of the UnitedHealthcare CEO as a symbolic takedown, asserting in his note that he is the “first to face it with such brutal honesty,” the bulletin said. Mangione called “Unabomber” Ted Kaczynski a “political revolutionary” and may have found inspiration from the man who carried out a series of bombings while railing against modern society and technology, the document said. ___ Associated Press reporters Lea Skene in Baltimore; Jennifer Sinco Kelleher in Honolulu; Maryclaire Dale in Philadelphia; John Seewer in Toledo, Ohio; and Michael Kunzelman in Washington, D.C., contributed to this report. Global Market for Drug-Device Combinations to Reach $200 Billion by End of 2029

Bankwell financial director Carl Porto acquires $6,580 in stockThe new technology will be managed through Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) systems and is expected to come into operation in late January 2025. This switch to a barrier-free Express Set Down system aims to enhance the overall experience for both drivers and passengers by streamlining the drop-off process. By removing the existing barriers, drivers will pass through more smoothly without the need to stop on exit, helping reduce congestion and improving traffic flow. The Express Set Down charge will need to be paid by midnight the day after making the drop-off, either online or by phone. No payments will be able to be made when exiting the area. Frequent users, including taxi drivers, will be able to register for an auto-pay account with full registration details available in the new year, while discounts for eligible local residents will be unaffected by the change. There will be prominent signage in the Express Set Down area to remind drivers of the new system once it is introduced. Anita Harrison, London Stansted’s customer operations director, said: "We recently announced our five-year £1.1bn investment programme that will deliver wide-ranging benefits at every touch point of a passenger’s journey while at the airport, and this initiative is an example of our commitment to enhance the travel experience at London Stansted. "The new barrierless system we will introduce in the new year will make dropping-off passengers quicker and more convenient, reducing driver waiting times and helping improve passenger flows. "We have seen these systems work effectively at other airports and in other settings, such as bridges, toll roads and tunnels and that is why we are confident it will improve the overall experience for users. "Full details of the new system will be available on our website early in 2025, with new signage also displayed in the ESD area advising users of the pending changes, but it is important to raise awareness now so drivers have advanced notice of the improvements we are bringing in.”

Srinagar, Nov 22: In a remarkable achievement for the region, a 22-month-old girl successfully underwent cochlear implant surgery today at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital. This milestone marks only the second time in north India that the advanced “SmartNav” electrode insertion monitoring software was utilized during the procedure, heralding a new era in patient care and precision surgery. The surgery was performed by Dr Rohan Gupta, ENT Consultant at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital. Alongside that surgery, another cochlear implant procedure was successfully carried out on a two-year-old child. Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital has been a pioneer in this field, having initiated cochlear implant surgeries in 2017 and successfully treating close to 100 patients, including bilateral implants and cases as young as 14 months old. Dr Rohan Gupta described the SmartNav software as a “game changer,” emphasising its role in enhancing surgical precision, reducing radiation exposure, and improving patient safety. He explained the software’s findings to parents post-surgery, who were overjoyed to see real-time data confirming the successful placement and functionality of the electrodes. Dr M M Mathavan, Facility Director, highlighted that adopting cutting-edge technologies like SmartNav reflects the hospital’s unwavering commitment to delivering world-class healthcare, setting a benchmark in cochlear implant procedures in the region. Dr Yashpal Sharma, Executive Director at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence, expressed pride in the hospital’s achievements and emphasized the Shrine Board’s role in making such advanced treatments available locally. He stated, “Thanks to the Shrine Board’s commitment, families no longer need to leave the state to seek specialized care for their children with hearing loss. Our focus has always been on enabling comprehensive, high-quality care here at home, allowing families to receive the best medical attention without the financial and emotional strain of traveling out of state.” Dr Yashpal Sharma commended the hospital team for their dedication, saying, “With a skilled team and cutting-edge technology, the Cochlear Implant Program at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital has become a pillar of hope for families in the region. His vision inspires us to keep advancing and to make a difference in the lives of children with hearing loss.” This achievement reinforces Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Narayana Superspeciality Hospital’s position as a leader in cochlear implant surgeries, transforming lives and helping families access world-class healthcare right here in the region. In a letter to the Prime Minister, shadow foreign secretary Dame Priti Patel and shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick claimed the decision by the International Criminal Court (ICC) had “no proper basis in international law”. They said the UK’s refusal to explicitly say whether or not the Israeli premier would be detained if he arrived in the country “opens the farcical spectre of your Government trying to sanction the arrest” of an ally to Britain. Criticising the ICC warrant, the shadow ministers said: “It is hard to escape the conclusion this is an activist decision, motivated by politics and not the law.” They argued the court was established to pursue cases in instances where countries do not have robust and independent judiciaries, which could not be said of Israel. “The UK Government’s response to the decision has been nonsensical,” they said. “On Friday, the Home Secretary refused to say whether Mr Netanyahu would be detained if he travelled to the UK. “This opens the farcical spectre of your Government trying to sanction the arrest on UK soil of the leader of an ally of the UK, while you continue a diplomatic charm offensive with the Chinese Communist Party leader Xi Jinping. “It falls to you to clarify the Government’s position – now. The Government must make clear that it does not support an arrest warrant being issued which has no proper basis in international law.” Downing Street on Friday indicated that Mr Netanyahu could face arrest if he entered the UK, refusing to comment on “hypotheticals” but saying Britain would always follow its “legal obligations”. The International Criminal Court Act 2001 states that a Secretary of State must, on receipt of a request for arrest from the ICC, “transmit the request and the documents accompanying it to an appropriate judicial officer”. Asked whether the UK would comply with requirements under the Act, Sir Keir’s spokesman said: “Yes, the Government would fulfil its obligations under the Act and indeed its legal obligations.” The ICC has issued a warrant for Mr Netanyahu and his former defence minister Yoav Gallant over alleged war crimes in Gaza. Number 10 previously said the domestic process linked to ICC arrest warrants has never been used to date by the UK because no-one wanted by the international court had visited the country. It added that Israel remained a “key partner across a range of areas”. The Prime Minister’s official spokesman said: “It is important that we have a dialogue with Israel at all levels to reach the ceasefire that we all want to see, to bring an end to the violence, to protect civilians and ensure the release of hostages.” The ICC also issued a warrant for Mohammed Deif, head of Hamas’s armed wing, over the October 7 2023 attacks that triggered Israel’s offensive in Gaza. A domestic court process would be required before Mr Netanyahu faced arrest if he set foot in the UK. The ICC said there are “reasonable grounds to believe” Mr Netanyahu and Mr Gallant were responsible for “the war crime of starvation as a method of warfare, and the crimes against humanity of murder, persecution and other inhumane acts”. The court’s pre-trial chamber also found “reasonable grounds to believe that Mr Netanyahu and Mr Gallant each bear criminal responsibility as civilian superiors for the war crime of intentionally directing an attack against the civilian population”. The impact of the warrants is likely to be limited since Israel and its major ally, the US, are not members of the ICC.

A federal judge temporarily halts the proposed supermarket merger of Kroger and Albertsons A federal judge has temporarily halted a proposed merger between supermarket giants Kroger and Albertsons, an action that could scuttle the deal. U.S. District Court Judge Adrienne Nelson issued the ruling Tuesday after holding a three-week hearing in Portland, Oregon. Kroger and Albertsons in 2022 proposed what would be the largest grocery store merger in U.S. history. But the Federal Trade Commission sued earlier this year, asking Nelson to block the $24.6 billion deal until an in-house administrative judge at the FTC could consider the merger’s implications. Former chairman of state-owned bank China Everbright Group jailed for 12 years for corruption BEIJING (AP) — Chinese official broadcaster CCTV says a former chairman of the state-owned bank China Everbright Group has been jailed 12 years for embezzlement and bribery. Tang Shuangning, who had also held senior posts at the People’s Bank of China and the China Banking Regulatory Commission, was arrested in January, part of a wider wave of prosecutions of senior officials accused of financial crimes. A court in the city of Tangshan, about 100 miles east of Beijing, found him guilty of taking advantage of his position at the state-owned bank in “seeking convenience for others” in jobs and loans, in exchange for illegal payments. The court said he had accepted illegal property with a total value of more than $1.5 million. US defense secretary in Japan to support alliance as Osprey aircraft safety causes concern TOKYO (AP) — U.S. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has met with officials in Japan to reaffirm the importance of their alliance and Washington's commitment to regional security as threats rise from China and North Korea. Austin’s visit on Tuesday also came amid growing concerns over the safety of Ospreys. The military aircraft have been grounded in the United States following a near crash at Cannon Air Force Base in New Mexico last month. The incident was caused by weakened metal components. It was similar to a fatal crash off southwestern Japan last year. The U.S. measure prompted the suspension of Ospreys operated by Japan’s Ground Self-Defense Force.
