A trailer for Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's new Netflix venture, a series titled Polo , has been met with massive criticism online. Netflix shared the trailer on X, captioning it, “Polo, a behind-the-scenes look at the fast-paced and glamorous world of the sport, is coming to Netflix on December 10. Follow elite global players on and off the field as they compete in the high-stakes U.S. Open Polo Championship. From executive producers Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.” The five-part series, set to launch globally on December 10, will not feature the Sussexes. It will follow international players both on and off the field as they compete in the US Open Polo Championship in Wellington, Florida. The trailer shows elite players talking about their experiences with the sport, with Harry’s close friend, Nacho Figueras, describing the high stakes of the game, stating, "Imagine going on a horse at 35mph with someone coming at you at full speed.” He also describes the sport saying, “Polo is not just a sport, polo is a lifestyle. We eat, we breathe, we sleep polo.” Polo player Louis Devaleix talks about the "addicting" adrenaline rush players experience when they play the sport. A feminine voice says the sport is "glamorous,” adding that “it's a sexy sport too, dirty, sweaty boys riding.” ‘Utterly gross and grotesque’ X users were not impressed with the trailer, and took to the comment section to express their feelings. “I made it through 40 seconds of the trailer and got bored. No thanks,” one user wrote. Another said, “Hard pass! Anything with the word Meghan, Duchess of Sussex , is immediately tossed in the trash compactor!” “I’m just so sick of them in general, every day they hog the headlines so they can spend the day reading about themselves. Sadly being one trick ponies it’s cheap reality rubbish that no one cares about, especially when people are facing such hardships,” one user wrote of the Sussexes, while another said, “Nothing about this looks remotely sexy or intriguing”. “Utterly gross and grotesque. @Netflix failing to read the room, once again. Bin it,” one user said, while another said, “No thanks ... will not be rejoining Netflix any time soon apparently. Utter trash.” “Not on my watch list...boring,” wrote one.None
Manmohan’s ‘monumental failure’ MGNREGA became lifeline in Covid lockdownGoogle and the US government faced off in a federal court on Monday, as each side delivered closing arguments in a case revolving around the technology giant's alleged unfair domination of online advertising. The trial in a Virginia federal court is Google's second US antitrust case now under way as the US government tries to rein in the power of big tech. In a separate trial, a Washington judge ruled that Google's search business is an illegal monopoly, and the US Justice Department is asking that Google sell its Chrome browser business to resolve the case. The latest case, also brought by the Justice Department, focuses on ad technology for the open web -- the complex system determining which online ads people see when they surf the internet. The vast majority of websites use a trio of Google ad software products that together, leave no way for publishers to escape Google's advertising technology, the plaintiffs allege. Publishers -- including News Corp and Gannett publishing -- complain that they are locked into Google's advertising technology in order to run ads on their websites. "Google is once, twice, three times a monopolist," DOJ lawyer Aaron Teitelbaum told the court in closing arguments. Presiding judge Leonie Brinkema has said that she would deliver her opinion swiftly, as early as next month. Whatever Brinkema's judgment, the outcome will almost certainly be appealed, prolonging a process that could go all the way to the US Supreme Court. The government alleges that Google controls the auction-style system that advertisers use to purchase advertising space online. The US lawyers argue that this approach allows Google to charge higher prices to advertisers while sending less revenue to publishers such as news websites, many of which are struggling to stay in business. The US argues that Google used its financial power to acquire potential rivals and corner the ad tech market, leaving advertisers and publishers with no choice but to use its technology. The government wants Google to divest parts of its ad tech business. Google dismissed the allegations as an attempt by the government to pick "winners and losers" in a diverse market. The company argues that the display ads at issue are just a small share of today's ad tech business. Google says the plaintiffs' definition of the market ignores ads that are also placed in search results, apps and social media platforms and where, taken as a whole, Google does not dominate. "The law simply does not support what the plaintiffs are arguing in this case," said Google's lawyer Karen Dunn. She warned that if Google were to lose the case, the winners would be rival tech giants such as Microsoft, Meta or Amazon, whose market share in online advertising is ascendant as Google's share is falling. The DOJ countered that it simply "does not matter" that Google is competing in the broader market for online ads. "That is a different question" than the market for ads on websites that is the target of the case, said Teitelbaum. Google also points to US legal precedent, saying arguments similar to the government's have been refuted in previous antitrust cases. Dunn also warned that forcing Google to work with rivals in its ad products would amount to government central planning that the court should reject. If the judge finds Google to be at fault, a new phase of the trial would decide how the company should comply with that conclusion. And all that could be moot if the incoming Trump administration decides to drop the case. The president-elect has been a critic of Google's, but he warned earlier this month that breaking it up could be "a very dangerous thing." arp/dw

Christopher Nolan is following his Oscar-winning “Oppenheimer” with a true epic: Homer’s “The Odyssey.” It will open in theaters on July 17, 2026, Universal Pictures said Monday. Details remain scarce, but the studio teased that it will be a “mythic action epic shot across the world using brand new IMAX technology.” It will also be the first time that an adaptation of Homer’s saga will play on IMAX film screens. Nolan has been an IMAX enthusiast for years, going back to “The Dark Knight,” and has made his last three films exclusively using large format film and the highest resolution film cameras. For “Oppenheimer,” the first black-and-white IMAX film stock was developed. Nolan hasn’t said specifically what the new technology for “The Odyssey” will be, but earlier this month he told The Associated Press that they’re in an intensive testing phase with IMAX to prepare for the new production. “They have an incredible engineering staff, really brilliant minds doing extraordinary work,” Nolan said. “It’s wonderful to see innovation in the celluloid film arena still happening and happening at the highest level possible.” “The Odyssey” will be Nolan’s second collaboration with Universal Pictures following “Oppenheimer,” which earned nearly $1 billion at the box office and won the filmmaker his first Oscars, including for best director and best picture. Rumors about his next project have been swirling ever since, with near-daily speculations about plot — none of which turned out to be true — and casting. While there are many reports about actors joining the ensemble, none has been officially confirmed by the studio. AdvertisementAP Sports SummaryBrief at 4:53 p.m. EST
The atmosphere in the Peruvian entertainment world is tense after the recent statements of Luigui Carbajal who issued a strong warning to the group Skandalo after starring in an unexpected confrontation with Ricky Trevitazo. Both artists, known for having been part of the youth group that marked an era in cumbia music, are now at the center of the controversy. The controversy intensified after Ricky issued a statement on his social networks, announcing his total distancing from Carbajal, which unleashed a wave of reactions among his followers. The conflict escalated further when Roly Ortiz founder of Skandalo accused Luigui Carbajal of having “fooled everyone”, adding a new chapter to this controversy. For his part, Carbajal, visibly upset, assured that the group must assume responsibilities for the use of his image. “They cannot use my image, my name, or my voice,” warned the former member of ‘Recargados de laughter’. What did Luigui Carbajal say about the Skándalo group? In his Radio Panamericana program, Luigui was emphatic when clarifying his position on the group, with which he shared a large part of his artistic career: “I make it very clear, Luigui Carbajal will no longer be in the group Skandalo . “They can’t count on me, they can’t use my image, my name or my voice or anything, otherwise they’re going to have to pay for the right to my image.” In addition, the distancing with Ricky Trevitazo, with whom he had more than 20 years of friendship, has added an emotional burden for his fans to this controversial confrontation. Trevitazo, through a statement on his social networks, made public his decision to cut ties with Carbajal, which confirmed the break between both artists. Given this situation, Luigui has reiterated that his link with Skándalo is a thing of the past and that he will not allow his image or career to be used in future projects related to the group.
