A TOYOTA executive appears to have let slip the return of a classic sports car last sold in the US in 2025. The Japanese carmaker is set to bring back the Celica in 2027 after years of rumors. Yuki Nakajima, Toyota's Executive Vice President, appeared to accidentally confirm the return in an event in Japan over the weekend. Originally, the question of the Celica's return was posed to the former CEO Akio Toyoda by Japanese magazine Best Car. But when he gave a cagey answer and turned the question over to Nakajima, the executive was far more forthright. "We will make the Celica," he said, before admitting he may have overstepped. Toyota last sold a sports car under the Celica name in 2005. But last year, then-CEO Toyoda said he wanted to revive the brand. Most read in Motors That same year, Toyota's president Tsuneji Sato also expressed his desire to bring back the model. A further clue was provided by Toyota's in-house anime series Grip, released to promote the car giant. In the series, a whiteboard appears bearing the words "Celica Mk8," a possible reference to a follow-up to the seventh-generation Celica, the last one to be released in the US. Toyota has reportedly been ramping up efforts to revive some of its iconic nameplates and sports cars in recent years. In 2019, the Supra was brought back. According to Motor1, there are 20 cars that won't make it to the 2025 model year, including sedans, some SUVs, and sports cars. Cars that are on the chopping block for next year are: Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio (sedan) Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio (SUV) Audi A4 (sedan) Audi A5 Coupe/Cabrio (2-door sedan) BMW X3M (SUV) Bugatti Chiron Chevrolet Camaro Chevrolet Malibu Fisker Ocean (EV) Ford Escape Jaguar F-Type Maserati Ghibli Mitsubishi Mirage Mini Clubman Nissan GT-R Nissan Titan Ram 1500 TRX Toyota Supra (4-cylinder) Volvo S60 Source: Motor1 Earlier this year, Toyota announced a comprehensive range of gas-powered four-cylinder engines, which will be part of many of their new models. That announcement came during a technical conference at which the company also announced a new partnership with fellow Japanese firms Mazda and Subaru. Chairman Toyoda has repeatedly called for the return of some of Toyota's sports cars in a number of interviews. The Celica was first launched in 1970, with its final model rolling off the assembly line in 2006, after seven generations. Reports say a prototype of the eighth-generation Celica could make an appearance as soon as next year at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon.Genesis Bryant scores 27 and No. 19 Illinois women beat UMES 75-55 in Music City Classic
Global Pharmaceutical Water Market Set For 10.6% Growth, Reaching $56.31 Billion By 2028US president-elect Donald Trump’s administration will examine ways to impose higher costs on private actors and US adversaries who wage cyberattacks on America, said congressman Mike Waltz, Trump’s pick for national security adviser, on Sunday. The White House has said at least eight telecommunications and infrastructure firms in the United States had been affected and a large number of Americans’ metadata was stolen in the sweeping cyber espionage campaign. “We need to start going on the offence and start imposing, I think, higher costs and consequences to private actors and nation-state actors that continue to steal our data, that continue to spy on us,” Waltz told CBS News’ Face the Nation . He also said the private US technology industry could also be helpful in making adversaries vulnerable as well as aiding in US defence.

High Pressure Paint Spray Gun Market Overview and Leading Players: Carlisle Fluid Technologies (CFT), EXEL Industries, J. Wagner, NingBo Navite, Anest Iwata, Graco, BROWN USA, NordsonFOXBORO, Mass. — Jerod Mayo’s walk back to the locker room was slow. It was an eerie evening here. Foggy, dark, foreboding. Even though his tenure has only lasted 16 games, Mayo’s done this walk several times, the sulked retreat to the locker room after a performance that felt like rock bottom only for a new low to arrive. Advertisement But this one feels different. This one really has to be rock bottom. The kind that leads to change. For weeks, the New England Patriots have signaled to every NFL insider with a cell phone that they really wanted Mayo to return for a second season as head coach. Robert Kraft had made Mayo the hand-picked successor to all Bill Belichick built. They knew he’d have learning moments as a first-time head coach. But they really wanted it to work out. Essentially, the message was this: Just don’t make the Patriots an embarrassment, and you’re back for Year 2. This one though — Los Angeles Chargers 40, Patriots 7 — leaves no doubt. The Patriots are an embarrassment. They’re 3-13. They haven’t scored 30 or more points in 44 straight games. They’ve surrendered at least that many six times this season alone. They hadn’t lost six in a row since 1993 — now they’ve done it twice this year. For a second straight season, they’re going to finish with a sub-.300 winning percentage, something they haven’t done since they were the AFL’s Boston Patriots. All of which is to say more simply: It’s time. Time for change. Time for Kraft to admit this has all been too much too soon for Mayo, and set sights on hiring Mike Vrabel to be the Patriots’ new head coach. GO DEEPER Patriots' offseason priorities: A look at the team's shopping list for free agency Kraft’s plan seemed a reasonable one once upon a time. Mayo seemed a natural successor to Belichick. He played for him and was lured into coaching by him. He could take Belichick’s core beliefs and pair them with a more modern approach. It seemed like it had a chance to work. And what a story it would’ve been. But 16 games in, it’s painfully obvious that Mayo is in over his head. Perhaps it wouldn’t be this simple if the crop of available coaches was a group without any ties to the Patriots who may not even consider a franchise that’s been in the wilderness since Tom Brady left five years ago. Advertisement What should make it an easy decision for Kraft is that the fix is obvious. One of the two best available coaches is a Patriots Hall of Famer, a tough, no-nonsense guy who could both be a bridge to the glory years while yielding optimism about what’s to come in Foxboro. In short, what Mayo was supposed to be. Another way to look at it is this: The best case is that Mayo turns things around, gets buy-in from players, and with more talent on his roster, yields the kind of culture Vrabel built in Tennessee while getting the most out of his teams. But if that’s the hope, why not just hire Vrabel? There’s no guarantee most years that other free-agent coaches would have any interest in the Patriots. But Vrabel would. He could return to the franchise where he became a three-time Super Bowl champion as a driving force of the first dynasty. And, importantly, he has a good relationship with Kraft. The Pats owner wined and dined Vrabel during the Tennessee Titans’ bye week last year when Vrabel was inducted, rolling out the red carpet as a thank you for all Vrabel meant to the Pats (and maybe as an apology for trading him in 2009), which at the time irked some back in Tennessee watching Vrabel bask in all things Patriots. Even if the Patriots’ job wouldn’t be all that intriguing to some coaches, that’s not the case with Vrabel. At this point, what’s the argument for bringing back Mayo? Just that Kraft once saw a lot of promise in him and they owe it to him to give him a chance with a better roster? Is that enough to let Vrabel go elsewhere, then potentially have to make a switch next year if things don’t work out and have to search through a new crop of available coaches who don’t have ties to the Patriots? That path would mean changes to Mayo’s coaching staff, potentially swapping out his offensive and defensive coordinators. Alex Van Pelt’s offense has been really bad, and somehow DeMarcus Covington’s defense has been even worse. On national TV Saturday, the Chargers had 428 yards to the Patriots’ 181. They had 29 first downs to the Patriots’ 11. They had the ball for more than two-thirds of the game. Advertisement Back at the bye that started this month, the mandate to Mayo and his coaching staff seemed obvious. Just don’t become a trainwreck at the end of the season. Show some improvement here and there even if it doesn’t add up to a bunch of wins. But in the three games since then, the Patriots have been blown out by the Arizona Cardinals, blew a 14-point lead to the Buffalo Bills, and been blown out by the Chargers. Everything about the latest one was embarrassing. Ladd McConkey, the rookie receiver they didn’t want in the second round, torched them for 94 yards and two touchdowns — outproducing the combined season-long effort from the receivers the Patriots drafted instead (Ja’Lynn Polk and Javon Baker). The defense was gashed and lost their best player (Christian Gonzalez) to injury. The offense stunk and got Drake Maye smoked a few times. Even the odd parts of this team that don’t really matter are embarrassing, like Mayo telling the broadcast crew before the game that they were going to start Antonio Gibson at running back to send a message to Rhamondre Stevenson ... only to then start Stevenson. “Coach’s decision,” was all Mayo could muster three different times when pressed on the move. At this point, he’s a coach without answers. Maybe if he had another year to be a mentee under Belichick this could’ve worked out. Or maybe if Eliot Wolf’s draft class hadn’t been a total disaster outside of Maye then Mayo could yield more production with a better roster. Instead, Gillette Stadium was dotted by empty seats Saturday, an uncomfortable reminder of where they’re at. Kraft invited Maye’s family to watch the game from his suite high above the 50-yard line. At this point, it’s obvious the Patriots feel they have their franchise quarterback. They owe it to him to surround him with better players — and, based on the last 16 games, better coaches. Advertisement The hope was that Mayo would get better as the season went on and he learned the ropes of a new job. His team would reflect that improvement. Instead, the Patriots found a new rock bottom on an afternoon where an uncomfortable reality set in. It’s time to make another change at head coach. (Top photo: Kathryn Riley / Getty Images)
For many people, this time of year is all about the shopping. And there's a fair chance many feel less than joyful about the prospect. If fulfilling your lengthy list feels overwhelming, learning what brain science and evolutionary psychology say about shopping and gift-giving might help you understand exactly why you're stressed – and even point you toward a healthier, happier holiday season. Our reactions are encoded into our nervous system, said Dr. Beth Frates, a part-time associate professor in the department of physical medicine and rehabilitation at Harvard Medical School in Boston. "By understanding these brain responses, people can develop strategies to manage stress better, such as setting realistic expectations, focusing on mindfulness and simplifying holiday preparations," said Frates, who also is the immediate past president of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. The idea of exchanging gifts at this time of year can be traced back to pagan solstice celebrations. But the drive to share with another is as old as humanity itself, said Dr. Diego Guevara Beltran, a postdoctoral fellow in psychology at the University of Arizona in Tucson who studies cooperation and generosity. The science of generosity is more about survival than stocking stuffers, Guevara Beltran said. Sharing food gave early humans an evolutionary advantage. "Generosity is just one of the ways by which we can accumulate resources, be it wealth itself or friendships or work partners or more attractive, more intelligent mates," he said. Sharing with other people, Guevara Beltran said, is "a signal that communicates how much you value them, their welfare, your relationship with them." Research has shown that helping people makes us feel good. Part of that, he said, is because when someone is part of a community, they feel protected. One way this manifests is through the act of giving gifts. But to derive happiness from gift-giving, the giver needs to feel both that it was not an obligation and that it was effective, according to the . That means it could be stressful to be in a culture where gift-giving feels mandatory, or if we can't see that a gift helped someone, Guevara Beltran speculated. It also might be stressful if gift-giving becomes a competition to show that you care about somebody more than the others around them. Our brains on shopping Stressful shopping can cause several physiological responses to kick in, Frates said. First is the "fight or flight" reaction that comes with stress. The release of chemicals that increase our heart rate, raise our blood pressure and intensify our breathing evolved to give us bursts of energy to escape danger. Frates said that while holiday stressors are not life-threatening, they can still trigger the stress response. The pressure to stay within budget could create a sense of scarcity, she said. "This taps into an evolutionary response, where the fear of losing resources like money can feel urgent and distressing." The holiday season also involves a lot of choices. "The brain has limited capacity for decision-making, and making multiple decisions can lead to decision fatigue," Frates said. "This fatigue reduces the ability to self-regulate and cope, which can lead to heightened stress responses when confronted with even minor setbacks, like a long line or out-of-stock item." The stress of needing to complete tasks within a limited time can intensify the fight-or-flight response, she said, as the brain interprets the ticking clock as a sense of urgency or threat. Meanwhile, Frates said, holiday shopping can also trigger brain chemicals that affect our feelings. "Dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and reward, is released when we anticipate something exciting or enjoyable, like finding a great gift or finding a good deal," she said. "This anticipation can feel rewarding even before any actual purchase is made." For some people, this dopamine boost can make shopping a relaxing experience. "It provides a temporary distraction from other stressors and allows them to focus on something positive, creating a 'holiday high,'" Frates said. For some people, that can be problematic. "When shopping becomes a way to chase that next dopamine hit, it can lead to excessive spending or impulsive purchases," she said. "This can become a trap, particularly during the holidays, when deals, sales and gift-giving pressures are everywhere." Understanding how all these processes work can help people recognize why they feel the way they do and adopt strategies to cope, Frates said. Here are some of her suggestions. 1. Start with self-care before shopping Prioritizing self-care means people can be their best selves and make good decisions, Frates said. So, "eat food that is delicious and nutritious. Get seven to nine hours of sleep. Make sure to enjoy physical activity. Take walks when you can and invite friends along. Practice stress reduction like meditation or yoga to help you calm your body and mind." Before going shopping, try taking deep breaths using stress-relieving techniques such as 4-7-8 breathing (inhale through your nose for four counts, hold for seven counts, and exhale through your mouth for eight) or box breathing (inhale through the nose for four counts, hold your breath for four, exhale for four, then hold for four). 2. Be strategic Don't shop when you're hungry, tired, lonely or stressed, Frates said. And don't start shopping 15 minutes before a store closes or a website's online deals end, she said. That's setting yourself up for triggering the fight-or-flight response. 3. Be mindful Before making a purchase, take a moment to consider whether it's truly needed or whether it's an impulsive choice. To avoid overindulging, set a specific budget or limit yourself to a couple of hours or specific shopping days. "This keeps dopamine-driven spending in check while still allowing for the enjoyable aspects of holiday shopping," Frates said. Look for post-shopping activities that provide rewards without the financial cost. That can satisfy your brain's desire for more dopamine in a healthier way. "Plan enjoyable, stress-relieving activities after shopping, like going for a walk, spending time with friends or indulging in a hobby," she said. 4. Bring a friend Not only does this support healthy social connections, Frates said, but if things start feeling stressful, "you have a buddy, and you have a support system right there for you." 5. Rethink the focus of the season "With gift-giving, we need to change mindsets in order to be able to manage the stress," Frates said. The holidays could be used to emphasize social connections, she said. "Thinking about the connection with the person and making gift-giving more about deepening the connection than anything else, I think, will really help to reduce the stress around the process," she said. So instead of scouring shops and websites for the "perfect" gift, think about making a meaningful and personal one, she suggested. It could be a poem, a painting, a song or a framed photograph that captured a special time. 6. Lessons for children It's easy to get caught up in the hunt for a hard-to-get item, Frates said. But ask yourself what the holiday means in your family's traditions. "Is it about getting that perfect gift for the child? Or is it about celebrating the meaning of that holiday?" So instead of having children ask for one specific toy, or a specific brand of clothing, teach them to leave a little leeway on their lists. "It is a good reminder to express to children that this season is about giving and sharing what we can in the best way that we can," she said, "and sometimes the exact gift is not available." Encouraging such an attitude can be a tall order, Frates said, but it's a place to start. "A simple mindset shift could be the difference between a stressful holiday shopping season or a joyful journey to find meaningful gifts for people you care about." covers heart and brain health. Originally published Nov. 21 on IdahoCapitalSun.com . Pete Hegseth, president-elect Donald Trump’s nominee for Secretary of Defense , has close ties to an Idaho-based Christian nationalist church that aims to turn America into a theocracy. Hegseth is a member of a Tennessee congregation affiliated with Christ Church, a controversial congregation in Moscow, Idaho, that has become a leader in the movement to get more Christianity in the public sphere. In an appearance last year on the Christ Church-connected streaming show “Crosspolitic,” Hegseth talked about how building up fundamentalist Christian education systems is important in what he sees as a “spiritual battle” with the secular world. He sees Christian students as foot soldiers in that war and refers to Christian schools as “boot camp.” “We’re in middle phase one right now, which is effectively a tactical retreat where you regroup, consolidate and reorganize and as you do so, you build your army underground with the opportunity later on of taking offensive operations – and obviously all of this is metaphorical and all that good stuff,” he said on the show. Hegseth did not immediately respond to requests for an interview. HEGSETH HAS SPOKEN POSITIVELY ABOUT CHRIST CHURCH PASTOR DOUG WILSON'S WRITINGS Christ Church is led by Pastor Doug Wilson, who founded the Calvinist group of churches called the Communion of Reformed Evangelical Churches, or CREC. CREC has congregations in nearly all 50 states and several foreign countries. Hegseth’s church is a member of CREC, and Hegseth has spoken positively of Wilson’s writings. Wilson and his allies have a rigid patriarchal belief system and don’t believe in the separation of church and state. They support taking away the right to vote from most women, barring non-Christians from holding office and criminalizing the LGBTQ+ community. Recently, Wilson has increased his influence nationally as he’s built a religious, educational and media empire. His Association of Classical Christian Schools has hundreds of fundamentalist schools around the country, and his publishing outfit Canon Press churns out dozens of titles a year as well as popular streaming shows that highlight unyielding socially conservative ideals. In the recently released podcast, “Extremely American” (created by this reporter), Wilson says one of his goals is to get like-minded people into positions of influence. In an emailed response for this story, he said he’s closer to that post-election and that he supports Hegseth’s nomination, though he downplayed any influence he has on him. “I was grateful for Trump’s win, and believe that it is much more likely that Christians with views similar to mine will receive positions in the new administration,” he said. HEGSETH NOMINATION COULD THREATEN COHESION, DIVERSITY OF U.S. MILITARY, EXPERTS SAY That’s what worries Air Force veteran Mikey Weinstein, who is the president of the Military Religious Freedom Foundation . Weinstein says Hegseth, if confirmed as Secretary of Defense, would threaten the cohesion of a religiously and racially diverse U.S. military. “Pete Hegseth is a poster child for literally everything that would be the opposite of what you would want to have for someone who’s controlling the technologically most lethal organization in the history of this country,” he said. Weinstein sees Hegseth’s nomination as an example of the dangers of Project 2025, a 900-page policy paper written by far-right political activists. It lays out a plan to gut the federal government and install Christian nationalist ideals. “Christian nationalism is an absolute fatal cancer metastasizing at light speed (for) the national security of this country,” he said. “It is a Christian version of the Taliban.” Matthew D. Taylor, senior scholar at the Institute for Islamic, Christian and Jewish Studies, said Hegseth is “one of the most extreme far right figures ever nominated to a cabinet post, at least in modern memory.” Taylor said he’s broadly concerned about Christian nationalists, who tend to take a dim view of democracy, potentially having a lot of sway in this administration. “I think we should expect a profound degradation of our democratic norms of the rule of law, and I think we are edging closer to a de facto Anglo Protestant establishment, of the kind where Anglo Protestant Christianity as the de facto official religion in the United States,” he said. Hegseth faces some headwinds in his nomination process due to multiple marital sex scandals and the recent revelation that he paid a woman who accused him of sexual assault in exchange for her not speaking about it. He denies he assaulted her but admits he paid her . He’s also gotten criticism for tattoos that are symbols of the Crusades and wrote a book titled “American Crusade,” where he derides Muslims. Before becoming a TV personality, Hegseth led the conservative veterans group Concerned Veterans for America, which advocated for increased privatization of veterans’ health care. He has also said that women should not be allowed to serve in combat roles in the military, and has complained about what he terms “woke” policies in the military.Humacyte, Inc. A Florida woman and social media influencer accused of shoplifting $500 of items from Target was arrested after police say she was identified through a TikTok video she filmed of the incident. The 22-year-old allegedly stole the items by scanning false bar codes with cheaper prices than what she was purchasing at the self-checkout of a Target in Cape Coral, Florida on Oct. 30, according to a statement from the Cape Coral Police Department. Police said that they identified the woman, who posted daily content on TikTok about her life and personal habits and had almost 300,000 followers on the social media platform—the account has since grown to more than 360,000 followers as of Nov. 26—after seeing a video in which she documented a trip to Target on the date of the theft and picked up the same items that were stolen. Social media beef: Fans react to Drake threatening to sue over Kendrick's 'Not Like Us' diss track Identified by an anonymous tip Cape Coral police responded to Target on Nov. 20 and confirmed with the store's loss prevention department and security camera footage that a woman wearing tan pants, a tan shirt, and glasses stole a total of 16 items of miscellaneous goods and clothing valued at $500.32, according to the Fort Myers News-Press . Police posted a photo taken from the store of the woman on the department's social media pages asking for possible leads, and soon thereafter received an anonymous tip from someone who provided the social media influencer's name, birthday and Instagram handle. The department then found her TikTok account, as well as the incriminating video documenting her trip to Target on Oct. 30 in the same outfit and glasses as the suspect in the security camera footage. The woman was arrested and charged with one count of petty theft, according to police. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Genesis Bryant scored 27 points, Kendall Bostic secured her third double-double this season with 12 points and 11 rebounds and No. 19 Illinois beat Maryland Eastern Shore 75-55 on Tuesday in the Music City Classic. Illinois (6-0) moved to 6-0 for the second time under third-year coach Shauna Green. Illinois scored the opening nine points of the game and took a double-digit lead for good with 2:11 left in the first quarter when Makira Cook made a 3-pointer to begin 13-2 run. UMES scored 13 straight points midway through the second quarter to get as close as 32-22, but Cook answered with a basket to end Illinois' three-minute drought. Bryant finished the first half with 14 points and Cook added 13 to help Illinois build a 43-26 lead. The pair combined to make seven of Illinois’ 14 field goals. UMES was 9 of 36 (25%), including 0 of 7 from 3-point range at halftime. Illinois also got 15 points from Cook and a career-high 11 rebounds from Brynn Shoup-Hill. Bryant, who reached double figures in the first quarter, scored 20-plus for the first time this season. Zamara Haynes led UMES (4-3) with 20 points and Mahogany Lester added 14. Illinois stays in Nashville to play No. 14 Kentucky on Wednesday. UMES travels to Piscataway, New Jersey, to face Georgia Southern in the Battle on the Banks on Friday. The total drug haul in the state during the year was 4,862 kg which included charas, mephedrone (MD drug), cocaine and hashish. Three persons lost their lives after a Coast Guard helicopter crashed into the Arabian Sea off the coast of Porbandar in September. The year began with the boat accident in Vadodara in January, in which 14 people, 12 of them school children, lost their lives, while in May, 28 people, most of them youngsters, were killed in a fire at a game zone in Rajkot. These tragedies revealed how business operators cut corners, did not have safety equipment in place and slipped under the radar of the authorities. The children and two teachers died after their boat overturned in Harni Lake on the outskirts of Vadodara city during a school picnic on January 18. A probe later revealed that an inexperienced firm had received the contract for boating activities at the lake and that the boat involved in the accident was old and unsafe. The victims were not provided life jackets, and no lifeguards were at the water body. In another deadly incident, a fire at TRP Game Zone in Rajkot on May 25 claimed 28 lives, the majority of them youngsters, on a weekend during the summer holidays. The amusement area was in temporary structures with tin roofs and two floors. The premises did not have enough fire extinguishers and emergency exits. Shockingly, the structure also did not have a fire NOC and building use approvals from the authorities. These lapses raised questions about how the authorities allowed the establishment to function despite knowing it violated all state rules and the Gujarat High Court’s directive on fire safety. Citizens staged protests, demanding accountability, and the Gujarat High Court took a tough stand against the state government. Three crew members went missing after their Coast Guard helicopter crashed into the Arabian during a rescue operation in September. Their bodies were recovered later. The police and anti-narcotics agencies remained on their toes this year with five big drug hauls, most of them in the Arabian Sea. In February, more than 3,300 kg of narcotics were seized from a boat in a joint operation by security agencies. A month later, on March 13, a seizure of 60 kg of methamphetamine worth Rs 420 crore was made off the coast of Porbandar. In August, authorities uncovered a massive mephedrone manufacturing operation in Bharuch and Thane, seizing 800 kg of the drug, valued at Rs 831 crore. Later, in October, a staggering Rs 1,814 crore worth of drugs and manufacturing materials were seized from a factory in Madhya Pradesh, and in November, about 700 kg of drugs were seized off the coast of Porbandar. On the political front, the BJP’s total domination in all 26 Lok Sabha constituencies in Gujarat ended after the Congress bagged one seat in the general elections held in April-May. The saffron party lost the Banaskantha seat to the Congress after an intense campaign and a series of defections in the run-up to the elections. The ruling party had retained all 26 seats in 2014 and 2019 and clinched a record 156 out of 182 seats in the 2022 state assembly elections. Before the elections, four MLAs, including three from the Congress and an independent, a Rajya Sabha MP from the Congress, resigned from their posts and joined the BJP. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra, which passed briefly through the state before the general elections, did little to dent the BJP bastion, while the BJP’s campaign was marred by former Union minister Purshottam Rupala's remarks about the Rajput community. 2024 also brought to the fore a scam in the healthcare sector that shook people’s trust in the essential service. In November, the Khyati Hospital in Ahmedabad was found performing unnecessary angioplasties on healthy patients to get monetary benefits under the Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna (PMJAY). The deaths of two persons following the procedure revealed the extent of the medical malpractice. The education sector also had its challenges this year with a student’s suicide at a premier management institute and the assault on students from foreign countries at Gujarat University. In September, a student of the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad (IIM-A) committed suicide allegedly due to the stress of organising an event on the campus, while in March, tensions escalated when students from foreign countries were assaulted by a group at Gujarat University’s hostel in the city for offering namaz, sparking controversy. Gujarat also hosted international dignitaries this year, with visits from UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Spanish President Pedro Sanchez. The UAE president attended the Vibrant Gujarat summit in January and held a roadshow and bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In October, Sanchez inaugurated the Tata Advanced System Limited (TASL)-Airbus facility in Vadodara, which will manufacture C-295 military aircraft in India. The Tata-Airbus facility is the first private sector final assembly line for military aircraft in the country. The state signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) for 41,299 projects with investment proposals worth Rs 26.33 lakh crore at the 10th biannual Vibrant Gujarat summit in January.

NEW YORK — Mayor Eric Adams on Tuesday said he hopes that under Jay Clayton, Manhattan’s likely next U.S. attorney, “the system of justice moves to be proper,” a comment that comes as the mayor is facing criminal indictment by the office Clayton is expected to lead. President-elect Donald Trump announced earlier this month he’s nominating Clayton, a corporate lawyer who has no experience as a prosecutor, to become Manhattan’s next U.S. attorney. The incumbent, Damian Williams, said Monday he would leave before Trump takes office. If Clayton is confirmed by the Republican-controlled U.S. Senate, including the corruption case against Adams. Asked Tuesday afternoon for his thoughts on Clayton’s nomination, Adams referenced his own case. “I don’t think any American should go through what I’ve gone through, and I’m hoping that the system of justice moves to be proper, and so ” he told reporters at City Hall, during his weekly press conference. “This is terrifying for an American to go through, particularly one who committed his life to serving his city, and I’m hoping the next prosecutor that comes in understands how important justice is in this country, what it means to Americans.” Clayton, and was Trump’s U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission chairman during his first White House term, didn’t return a request for comment. Adams said he has never met Clayton. n late September on charges of bribery, fraud, conspiracy and soliciting illegal campaign contributions from foreign nationals. and others in exchange for granting them official favors, like helping resolve building safety issues at Turkey’s Manhattan consulate. Adams has pleaded not guilty to all charges. The question of whether Clayton might move to quash Adams’ case is a matter of broad speculation as without citing evidence that the mayor was indicted as retribution for his criticism of President Biden’s handling of the migrant crisis, while also expressing support for Adams. During the presidential campaign, Adams angered fellow Democrats by declining to criticize Trump, fueling speculation in some quarters that Adams was hopeful, if elected, Trump could help him with his legal conundrum. As U.S, attorney, experts said, Clayton could move to drop Adams’ prosecution. However, such a move would likely require approval from Manhattan Federal Court Judge Dale Ho, who is overseeing Adams’ case. _____
