Thieves in Summerland have continued to go after donations as they recently raided the bin behind the Critteraid Charity Thrift Shoppe. In a social media post on Nov. 26, the charity organization said five different thieves visited the donation box on the previous night. These included a woman with a baby on foot, a couple in a car and three cyclists. The last cyclist left the box open, so everything in the donation box was soaked by the rain. The store, which funds the Summerland animal sanctuary, has security cameras set up, watching the donation boxes after hours. “This morning after reviewing the camera recording we are angry but mainly sad,” a post on the charity’s Facebook page read. “They are taking away from our animals that we care so much about.” The shop is asking for people to donate between noon and 4 p.m. daily while there is a donation receiver on-site. Critteraid was formed more than 30 years ago as a cat sanctuary. In the years following, it has grown to become a rescue and shelter for cats, dogs and other animals. “Our charity store is our main source of revenue for allowing us to rescue,” the post read. “We rely on the donations we receive.” The charity shop was opened in 2012 and has operated out of its location at 13208 Victoria Rd. N. since 2013. This is the second account of thefts to a thrift store donation bin in Summerland within recent weeks. Earlier, volunteers at the Summerland Health-Care Auxiliary Thrift Store, also on Victoria Road North, said items had been disappearing from the donation bins there before staff and volunteers had been able to process them. There have also been attempts to pry open the metal doors to the store.

LISBON, Portugal (AP) — The goals are flying in again for Arsenal — and it just happens to coincide with the return from injury of Martin Odegaard. Make that eight goals in two games since the international break for Arsenal after its 5-1 hammering of Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Tuesday, tying the English team’s heaviest ever away win in the competition. Odegaard is back in Arsenal’s team after missing two months with an ankle injury . In that time, Mikel Arteta’s attack stuttered, with a 2-0 loss to Bournemouth and a 1-0 defeat at Newcastle dropping the Gunners well off the pace in the Premier League. There was also a 0-0 draw at Atalanta in the Champions League as well as a 1-0 loss to Inter Milan last month, when Odegaard made his comeback from injury as an 89th-minute substitute. Since then, Arsenal hasn’t lost and the goals have returned. After a 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday came the cruise in Lisbon — and Odegaard was at the heart of everything as Sporting’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end. “He’s an unbelievable player,” Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka said of Odegaard. “The day he returned, there was a big smile on my face. You can see the chemistry we have. I hope he stays fit for the rest of the season.” Story continues below video Odegaard was involved in the build-up to Arsenal’s first two goals against Sporting — scored by Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz — and was fouled to win the penalty converted by Saka in the 65th to restore Arsenal’s three-goal lead at 4-1. Odegaard was seen flexing his leg after that but continued untroubled and was substituted in the 78th minute. The last thing Arteta would want now is another injury to Odegaard as Arsenal attempts to reel in first-place Liverpool in the Premier League. Liverpool is already nine points ahead of fourth-place Arsenal after 12 games. AP soccer: https://apnews.com/hub/soccerTrends in the real estate industry 2025: smart homes and green energy

3D Systems Reports Third Quarter 2024 Financial ResultsMumbai | Bengaluru: TataSons may infuse the next round of capital into its ecommerce business, Tata Digital , only in mid-2025. Until then, the new commerce entity will have to rely on internal funding and debt financing to fuel growth, officials familiar with the matter told ET. As part of this strategy, most of the new funding for BigBasket and 1mg is being secured through debt rather than fresh equity infusion. Tata Sons has invested over $2 billion in Tata Digital's super app to date. ET had reported earlier about financing plans of egrocer BigBasket and epharmacy 1mg. A new set of business leaders has also been brought in to strengthen this performance-oriented culture, officials noted. In November 2024, Croma , which contributes the highest revenue to Tata Neu, appointed Shibashish Roy as its new CEO. Roy has been tasked with driving growth following an initial round of restructuring aimed at enhancing agility. "The focus is now on growth and scale. Challenges related to organisational cohesion have been addressed, and the priority is to scale up for the next level of growth," said an official aware of the plans. Tata Digital did not comment. To be sure, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran has instructed the management to focus urgently on profitable growth. "The message is clear. Grow but also in a sustainable manner as some of the large businesses, like BigBasket, will be tapped for an IPO over the next couple of years," said a source aware of the company's monetistion plans of Bombay House. While the core grocery business of BigBasket had stabilised on profitability, the Bengaluru-based firm is spending most of its capital toward quick commerce following its pivot to the 15-30 minute delivery service. Tata Neu has also launched Neu Flash to users selling grocery, fashion, electronics and other items. Quick commerce is seeing intense investment and competition from players such as Zepto, Blinkit and Instamart, while the likes of Flipkart have also upped the ante with Minutes. Amazon, too, is on the verge of entering the sector. Last Fiscal Revenue Last year, Neu recorded a GMV (gross merchandise value) of less than $1 billion, excluding individual gross sales from apps like 1mg and BigBasket. Tata Digital reported standalone revenue of ₹204.3 crore in FY23, reflecting nearly 13-fold growth compared to the previous year, as per Tata Sons' annual report. However, the unit also recorded a standalone loss of ₹1,370 crore, a 23% increase year-on-year. For FY24, Tata Digital's total turnover more than doubled to ₹420.5 crore from ₹204.3 crore in FY23. The company also narrowed its standalone losses to ₹1,201 crore from ₹1,370 crore in the previous year. These figures do not include the performance of its subsidiaries. Croma, one of the largest businesses on Neu, reported a turnover of ₹15,851 crore in FY23, with a loss of ₹325 crore during the same period. Tata Cliq reported revenue of ₹78.5 crore in FY23, along with a loss of ₹175 crore, as per the report. Tata Digital reported an aggregate GMV of ₹37,355 crore in FY24. Fashion, a key category for any ecommerce platform, makes Tata Cliq a crucial business for Neu. Tata Cliq, housed under Tata Unistore and led by CEO Gopal Asthana, is collaborating closely with the Neu team to scale up its fashion business. Asthana was appointed CEO following the departure of Vikas Purohit last October. Nominations for ET MSME Awards are now open. The last day to apply is December 31, 2024. With a goal of a little over $500 and 180 kilometres, three best mates set off running for the month of November in hopes of raising money for men’s mental health, but nearly 30 days later, they have achieved so much more than they had ever expected. When Austin Dewar, Braydon Rawlins and Campbell Johnston came up with the idea to raise money for Movember by running 60 kilometres each, they weren’t prepared for the amount of support they would receive and the awareness they would create. The youngest of the group, 18-year-old Mr Dewar, was shocked to realise that 180 men a month are lost to suicide. “You always hear little bits of information about statistics ... but once we sort of sat down and really started looking at it, that’s when we really realised how bad it is,” he said. Ticking over $10,000 raised on Tuesday, Mr Dewar said the trio have had to push through pain, injuries and the occasional hangover to continue the road to their goal. (L-R) Campbell Johnston, Braydon Rawlins and Austin Dewar are running 180 kilometres in the month of November to raise money for men's mental health. “I had my boss’s wedding in the very first week, so my very first two runs, I was very hungover,” he said. “The body didn’t really start hurting until the second week ... I got really bad shin splints at the moment, Braydon got really sore quads, and Campbell had an injured knee the whole time, so we’ve all kind of got our little issues.” With only a few days to go, and less than 20 kilometres to run each until they hit their goal, the trio has had time to reflect on what has been a whirlwind few weeks. “All of the local businesses have been so keen to hop on board and support us,” Mr Dewar said. “(Raising) money is great, but it’s the awareness that’s the biggest thing for me.” “We’ve been getting messages from people we don’t even know saying ‘thank you for doing this, it’s helped me open up’, and it’s awesome; it’s probably the best part for us.” One of the main reasons they’ve had so much success spreading the word about their challenge is thanks to their social media presence, Mr Dewar said. “I had all the camera gear, and I was really into it, so I thought we may as well make a little video. The boys had never really spoken in front of the camera before, so it was a bit out of their comfort zone,” he said. “Our first Instagram reel that we posted got around 52,000 views.” “It’s crazy how fast it spreads on social media. We would never have gotten to the point we are right now without that.” On Saturday they will be completing their final three kilometres along The Strand around 4.30pm and have invited anyone interested in completing it with them down to the waterfront for a run. CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — A Ukrainian girls’ hockey team is in Canada for a few days of peace and hockey in an arena that doesn’t have a missile-sized hole in its roof. After 56 hours of travel to Calgary, including a 24-hour bus ride from Dnipro to Warsaw, Poland, that required army escort for a portion of it, the Ukrainian Wings will join Wickfest, Hayley Wickenheiser’s annual girls’ hockey festival, on Thursday. The squad of players aged 11 to 13 was drawn from eight different cities in Ukraine, where sport facilities have been damaged or destroyed since Russia started its invasion in February 2022. “They all have a personal story of something awful happening,” said Wickenheiser. “We give them a week of peace and joy here, and I hope they can carry that with them. “We know full well they’re going back to difficult circumstances. It’s tough that way.” Nine players are from Kharkiv, where pictures show a large hole in the roof of the Saltovskiy Led arena where the girls’ team WHC Panthers once skated. “It was our home ice arena, and we played all our national team championships in this ice arena,” said Kateryna Seredenko, who oversees the Panthers program and is the Wings general manager. Ukraine’s Olympic Committee posted photos and wrote in a Facebook post Sept. 1 that Kharkiv’s Sport Palace, which was home to multiple hockey teams, was also destroyed in an attack on the city. Seredenko says the Wings’ arduous journey to Calgary was worth it because it gives the girls hope. “It’s not a good situation in Ukraine, but when they come here, they can believe that everything will be good, everything will be fine, of course we will win soon and we must play hockey. We can’t stop because we love these girls and we will do everything for them,” she said. “So many girls on this Ukrainian team are future players of the national team.” Wickenheiser, a Hockey Hall of Famer , is the assistant general manager of player development for the Toronto Maple Leafs and a doctor who works emergency room shifts in the Toronto area. The six-time Olympian and four-time gold medalist organized her first Wickfest after the 2010 Winter Games. She’s had teams from India, Mexico and the Czech Republic attend over the last decade and a half, but never a team that ran the Ukrainians’ gauntlet of logistics. The Canadian Partnership for Women and Children’s Health took on the task of arranging visas and paying for the team’s travel. “We care about women and children’s health. Sport is such a symbol. When you see a group of girls coming off the ice all sweaty and having worked hard on the ice, it’s a symbol of a healthy girl,” said chief executive officer Julia Anderson. “That’s a healthy kid that’s able to participate in sport. We really believe if we can get girls there, whether they’re in an active war zone, or here in Canada, those girls will change the world.” The Wings aren’t the first Ukrainians to seek a hockey haven in Canada since the war began. An under-25 men’s team played four games against university squads in early 2023 to prepare for that year’s world university games. Ukrainian teams have also twice played in the Quebec City International Pee-Wee Hockey Tournament. “It’s the first time in Ukrainian history where a girls’ team is coming to Canada to a very good tournament,” Seredenko said. “They can see how they can play in their future. And they can see how it is to play hockey in Canada.” AP sports: https://apnews.com/sports
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Dan Campbell stood at the podium after Detroit blew a 17-point lead to San Francisco in last season's NFC title game and talked about how that might have been the Lions' only shot at reaching the Super Bowl. The coach knew how difficult it would be to maintain that high level of play through injuries, attrition and with a target on their back as a top contender in the NFC. Eleven months later as Campbell and the Lions prepare to return to Levi's Stadium for the first time since that loss , that has proved to be prophetic — for San Francisco instead of Detroit. The Lions (13-2) head into the rematch Monday night with the inside track at the top seed in the NFC playoffs, while the 49ers (6-9) have already been eliminated from postseason contention . The element of revenge for last season's 34-31 loss is secondary for Detroit, considering what's on the line the last two weeks of the season. The Lions can clinch the top seed in the NFC by winning their final two games or with a win against the Niners if Minnesota loses to Green Bay on Sunday. “Anytime we lose, the thought of losing is going to motivate you to not want to lose again, particularly with where you were at,” Campbell said. “So, that’s always going to bring its own level of motivation to it. But this is where we’re at in the season, we know that we need another win, we understand where we’re at in the division and the NFC, so I think it’s all encompassing.” While the Lions have no need to search for motivation, that's not the case for the 49ers, who are playing out the string of a lost season after making losing back-to-back NFC title games in 2021-22 and the Super Bowl last season. A run of injuries to key players like Christian McCaffrey, Trent Williams, Nick Bosa and Brandon Aiyuk, combined with inconsistent play all season have led to the 49ers having nothing to play for in the final two games. “It’s obviously not where you want to be this time of year,” Bosa said. "It’s different, especially watching where we’re at last year against this team. Just that feeling of December, January football is a feeling that I’ve gotten used to being really competitive and being in the mix. I think we’re doing a good job of staying engaged and obviously this is our job, so we’re going to finish it strong. Detroit’s faith in Jameson Williams is paying off, taking advantage of his game-breaking abilities with big plays. Jared Goff heaved an 82-yard touchdown pass over Williams’ shoulders and into his hands in last week’s win at Chicago. Earlier this season, Goff threw 70-, 64- and 52-yard passes for scores to the third-year receiver. “We work on it a ton, him and I do, and it’s a testament to him,” Goff said. “He’s asking for it. He wants that work, and I’m more than happy to give it to him during the week. It’s good. Our connection continues to grow. He’s obviously one of the best deep threats in our league, even when it’s not perfect.” The 49ers head into the game scrambling to put together an offensive line. Williams has been out for more than a month with an ankle injury and his backup at left tackle, Jaylon Moore, is now sidelined by a quadriceps injury. Left guard Aaron Banks injured his knee last week, while his backup Ben Bartch is already out with an ankle injury. That will leave the Niners with two third-stringers protecting Brock Purdy. But Shanahan said he isn’t thinking of sitting Purdy to protect him. “People deal with that throughout the year on other weeks, too,” he said. “I mean, we’ve got a football team. We’ve got to go out and we’ve got two games here and we’ve got to see what guys we can put out there and whatever we do we’re going to put a game plan together to, as best as we can to give us a chance to win.” Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who may have a chance for the second straight offseason to be an NFL head coach, routinely pulls off trick plays and his latest was a doozy. Goff intentionally stumbled after taking a snap and Jahmyr Gibbs went to the ground as their teammates yelled, “fumble,” to fool the Bears on a 21-yard touchdown pass to Sam LaPorta. “Those make you feel good because everybody is invested in it,” Campbell said. “It’s fun. It’s different. It’s sound. “I know it sounds crazy, but it’s sound.” San Francisco kicker Jake Moody is having a rough second season after being drafted in the third round a year ago. Moody has missed seven field goals this season, including a 41-yarder last week at Miami. Moody is just 10 for 16 since coming back from a high ankle sprain in his kicking foot, but Shanahan said he still has confidence in him. “I still feel the same about him, that I believe he’ll be our guy,” Shanahan said. "I mean everyone’s got to perform and do things like that. I think he has had a tough year. Before his high ankle sprain, he missed one. ... I think he was 12 of 13 before that, so I thought he was doing really well." AP Sports Writer Larry Lage contributed to this report.
