Georgia's Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze has refused to back down and threatened Tuesday to punish political opponents, accusing them of being behind violence at mass protests. Protesters gathered outside parliament for a sixth straight night but the crowd appeared slightly smaller than on recent nights, an AFP journalist saw. Draped in EU and Georgian flags, protesters booed riot police officers and threw fireworks. Police responded by directing hoses at the protesters, with some dancing in the jets and others sheltering under umbrellas. The police ordered demonstrators to leave through loud hailers and used water cannon to push the crowd away from the parliament. Then they deployed tear gas against the crowd in a nearby street, causing protesters to cough, with some using saline solution to wash out their eyes. The Executive Chairman of EFCC, Ola Olukoyede, gave the charge on Thursday at the Uyo zonal office of the commission during a town hall event on youth integrity in preparation for the 2024 International Anti-Corruption Day themed “Uniting the Youths against Corruption: Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity.” Olukoyede represented by the Zonal Director of Uyo, Johnson Oshodi, encouraged youths to see a better future ahead of them by choosing the pathway of integrity and shunning all forms of corruption that would jeopardise their future. He also encouraged them to expose tendencies and actions that run counter to accountability and right values in their neighbourhood, saying there was no way corruption could be tackled effectively if they were unexposed or allowed to go unchallenged. He urged youths to collaborate for progressive innovations and challenge corrupt practices at every level of government even as he pledged EFCC’s readiness to support them achieve that, recalling how a Cyber Crime Research Centre was established to build youth’s capacities against internet fraud. His words: “Youths need a united voice to challenge unsavoury practices at every level of government. They need to come together to be watchdogs and active forces against any form of corruption. “More important in this crusade against corruption is the overarching necessity of individual and corporate accountability. The Pittsburgh Steelers are reeling off of a win in Cincinnati as they look to keep pace in the AFC playoff race. With their 44-38 win over the Bengals , quarterback Russell Wilson and the Steelers again secured a victory on the road where they allowed over 27 points – something rarely seen in modern Steelers football. Earlier this season, Russell Wilson orchestrated a game-winning drive against the Washington Commanders that was capped off by a moon ball to Mike Williams for a touchdown. They would win 28-27. In games such as this – where the defense allows 27+ points on the road – Mike Tomlin-led Steelers teams were 2-35 prior to the Washington game. Wilson has now led the Steelers to that win total in such circumstances in just six starts. After Sunday, Tomlin’s Steelers moved to 4-35 in games under these circumstances. Wilson is 2-0 in those starts. The future Hall of Fame quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was only 3-28 in these games. It’s impressive to see Wilson lead the Steelers to what is a rare mark for the black and gold. Tomlin and company have had a difficult time gaining stability in the position since Roethlisberger’s retirement. Though Wilson just turned 36 on Friday, he recently revealed he wants to play another five to seven seasons. He might get that opportunity in Pittsburgh. While Wilson doesn’t necessarily move like he used to, he can still extend plays. Most importantly, his veteran experience and strong arm talent have elevated his receivers’ play. George Pickens continues to grow as a number-one receiver, Calvin Austin III has become an emerging weapon, and Pat Freiermuth has flourished as a security blanket. With a win on Sunday, the Steelers can inch their way closer to a division title – something they have not accomplished since 2020. After the Baltimore Ravens loss against the Philadelphia Eagles, the Steelers would need two wins the rest of the way with one of those being in Baltimore in two weeks.
